Just to let you know, updates for the rest of this week are going to be pretty light. Just got some schtuff to take care of.

Rather than just not update at all tonight, which would surely raise enough ire to get me killed by morning, here's some quick links to past X-E movie reviews that you may or may not have seen.

X-E MOVIE REVIEWS:
Garbage Pail Kids - Supergirl - Rawhead Rex - The Star Crystal - Ghoulies II - The Wizard - Nukie - My Demon Lover - Double Dragon

Fantastic, saves me the trouble of digging through your site!

Wow...early post.

One of these days, Matt, you should post the links too all the Chia Plot & Spider-man Crayon Review chapters, so we'll really get some good late-night reading in.

In other news, I got the Simpsons 8th Season DVD today. It's pretty kickass, but due to work, I've only been able to see the first ep: Treehouse of Horror VII, which is one of the best THoHs if ya ask me.

I'm also watching Pee-wee's Playhouse right now...It's the Zyzzybalubah episode!!!

I watched the last ten minutes of My Best Friend is a Vampire today! It was supreme cheese and I totally want to see it in entirety now.
Favorite X-E movie reviews? Hard to pick just a few, but Tales From the Darkside, House, Star Crystal, Basket Case and Freaks are all fabulous.

Just a quick question, does Matt get an excused absence if he doesnt post a blog the day SOAP comes out? Or is that not a good enough reason to skip a day and therefore everyone is still going to be mad at him? I mean it seems like a good reason to me, but then again the point of the August Mega Party was that there is a new post everyday so...

These are the kinds of things that keep me up at night...hahah

oh and im not saying "first" or anything, but i am kinda surprised that i posted this early because usually by the time i see it(on the west coast) a million people have posted already.

God damn it, now that I posted a new entry so soon after posting this one, I've cursed this entry to have little to no comments, and I'm afraid it's going to feel really bad about itself by the end of the day.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/16/2006 12:47 AM EST

Don't worry. There'll be plenty of movie-chat here. And it gives a good chance for people to go high up on the post-list who haven't gotten a chance to before.

Chestnuts roasted by DocDragon @ 08/16/2006 12:52 AM EST

Actually, Rawhead Rex has to top my list, for the "three ducks" conversation alone. God damn ceramic poon!
Nobody should bitch about light content...you could just post links to highlight old articles and there would be plenty for people to read/reread. Or just post surveys/topics.
Happy Tuesday/Wednesday by the time you read this!

I think the whole draw of Wizard was that by the climactic ending, the finals of the tournament, it was like a (now) modern-day reality show. Just our present concept of shows like that, "Hey, I could do that. I could be there."

Really, I just wanted to play Mario 3 on that big ass screen.

Chestnuts roasted by ColonelCatsup @ 08/16/2006 01:42 AM EST

So, if Nukie, which you keep calling "literally painful to watch," and which SomethingAwful declared to be possibly the worst film ever made (scored a perfect -50), rates a 4 out of 10 on your scale, what's a 1 out of 10?

Does the movie that shitty even exist?

Chestnuts roasted by DVA @ 08/16/2006 01:44 AM EST

I will not let this entry feel bad about itself. I christen this entry the love entry. Now everyone love damn it.

Had to post a 'Wizard' comment- that movie rocked my world. I lived and breathed Nintendo, and to have a movie where 3 kids run away from home and play Nintendo for cash? Wow- I thought it was the greatest cinematic achievement of the time. Plus, the ending with Jimmy playing Super Mario Bros. 3 was the FIRST glimpse I had of that game (besides glances into 'Nintendo Power' at the newsstand when the owner wasn't looking). I am SO glad this movie is finally coming out on DVD!

I wrote to Fred Savage after I saw this movie. I was 11 at the time. When I was THIRTEEN, I got a letter in the mail from Fred Savage! Well, a photo of him, actually. On the back it said "I hope all yours are 'Wonder Years' Love, Fred Savage" Great, huh? It's on my fridge. smile

I feel the love, dohopoki.

Was Jimmy supposed to be Rainman junior?

Sorry I'm running behind on my blog posts! I listened to some Christmas Jukebox. I don't think summer is my favorite season any more. I loved being out of school as a kid, but now in the summer i'm working full time and am looking forward to going back to school. Also, I'm looking forward to Halloween and the Holidays, and, by implication, the countdowns associated with them. The weather seems already to be cooling down to what I remember it being back around the time of year when I would go back to school. Funny, I seem to remember those times fondly, yet I did not greatly enjoy them when I was actually living in them. Maybe some sort of selective memory. Can those of you who are out of high school identify with this?

Chin up, little entry. We believe in you.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 08/16/2006 07:44 AM EST

Hoverbored-I feel the same way, since work sucked all the fun out of summer the fall does rule with its parade of holidays.

A bit odd that Matt can influence what a bunch of adults can get exited about but those holiday countdowns are just that cool. I am way more into Halloween now then I was in the probably ten years proceding last years countdown.

I love movie reviews.

I lived in Germany by the time The Wizard came out. We didn't even have current Nintendo Power magazines available, and this was WAAAAY before the internet spoiled any surprises. Seeing Mario 3 on screen and then hearing that such game ACTUALLY existed was something I doubt I'll ever be able to experience again. That movie is also responsible for me owning a Power Glove. Even though it sucked as a controller, it more than proved it's worth when it came to building robots that utilized my My Buddy ripoff doll.

jrh

Actually, I believe the film's producers were aiming for a Tommy for young kids. At least that's what was quoted in David Sheff's book "Game Over"

Makes sense:

Tommy==pinball
Jimmy==Nintendo.

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 08/16/2006 11:08 AM EST

Ever since I was a young man,
I held a Nintendo control pad.
I even wanted a Power Glove,
'Cause I thought it was really rad.
But I ain't seen nothing like him,
In any video store.
Fred Savage's spazzed out autististic brother
Beat my Mario high score!
He's a Nintendo Wizard,
There has to be a twist!
A Nintendo Wizard,
No Warp Zone was missed!
Nintendo Wizard,
Better than the rest!
Then that girl screamed.
"That man just touched my breast!"

Muppet Baby, that is the coolest story I have ever heard! I loved Fred Savage so much as a kid. It's too bad he does'nt look as cute now then when he was a kid.

On to the next blog, gotta catch up.

Chestnuts roasted by IHAQ @ 08/16/2006 01:02 PM EST

Kingklash: You are officially my hero.

Chestnuts roasted by MissJess @ 08/16/2006 03:01 PM EST

I'd like to be the first to point out that Kinglash may either be Roger Daltry, or Weird Al or both.
Think about IT MANNN! You never see them all in the same place together. Plus, maybe wanting to avoid any internet connection to stay as far away from Townsend's kiddie porn, Daltry has now taken the moniker Kinglash. Of course if all this is anywhere near the truth, we should all also accept the possibility that Kinglash is also Feito.

Just theories. Ok I gotta go read Catcher in the Rye and look out for Patrick Stewart.

Chestnuts roasted by WonKa @ 08/16/2006 03:43 PM EST

I actually had Elton John's version running through my melon when the words tumbled out.

"What I thought I'd do, was, pretend I was one of those X-E posters." -kingklash channeling the Laughing Man.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 08/16/2006 03:55 PM EST

I never read your review of the Wizard, but I am upset that you missed the only GOOD storyline of the movie. Jimmy (Fred Savage's mute brother) was troubled by the death of his Sister. The whole reason he kept saying California is becuase it was the last time his family was together as one. The dinosaur statue was the last place they all stopped together on their California road trip. I thought that this part of the storyline added some merit to an otherwise completey devoid movie.

Only saw the WIZARD once.
I am just glad to be a part of the blog entry that was killed before it could crawl.

For some reason, this post reminded me of an article that I really like. Matt's 1987 birthday party. It's kind of like that kid who had to be there in a suit.
