If there was a patron saint of four day weekends, I'd push her to the floor and f her up the a. This is going to be so awesome.
Not that I'll be doing anything extremely exciting, at least considering that it's Saturday night and I'm about to start finishing Disney Part 3. Hope everyone's having a fireworks-filled holiday weekend. This is your SNT.

Superman Returns was better than I expected, though still can't wait until next week for Pirates.

Enjoying illegal fireworks courtesy of my drunk, redneck neighbors.
God Bless the U.S.A.!!!!

Rednecks live where fireworks are illegal? This opens my eyes to a whole new world...

NY is so consumed with anti-terrorism that it's now extended to the point where having fireworks can get you the death penalty. Not literally, but for weeks, there's been faux checkpoints where coppers give you copies of paper basically saying that they'll kill you if you're caught with fireworks of any kind. On the upside, this seems to have led to a giant increase in sanctioned fireworks shows. I'm on crappy Staten Island, and I've already seen two tonight.

We are sure to only set off fireworks in our front yard now...last year my dad set off a couple of high-shooting ones in our backyard, and our neighbors down the hill from our house came up and yelled at us about how our fireworks were landing on their roof...it wasn't like it could possibly start a fire or something, but it was still bad...really bad...

Driving south of the VA border should yeild me some fireworks, but that seems like too much work.
I almost burndt down my house last year. Yep, landed a very active bottlerocket on the roof and had to hose it down.
Guess I'll just set something on fire. That usually provides entertainment any day of the year.
So seriously, I want input. If you want the accompanying jokes, check the end of the last update, I'm just listing the choices here
Scorched
High Fidelity
Advent Children
Input please, Your command is my....er, command

South of the VA border? If you life in Southwest Virginia, just come to East Tennessee...we have enough fireworks to put most world militaries to shame.

Hey Matt,
This has nothing to do with anything, but I thought this would be a good place to ask: I'm thinking about getting a digital camera. I was wondering what kind you use and how you like it. Would you give it a recommendation?

Kneg,
I would assume that virtually any regular visitor to this blog would advise you to watch High Fidelity regardless of what the other choices were, and I am no different. I was pretty underwhelmed by Advent Children. I felt like I was watching a 90-minute cut-scene from the latest FF game.

I still have to work crappy Monday. Then Wednesday I imagine I'll come in to a shitload of paperwork and angry e-mails from retards wondering why I wasn't in the office. Ah the exciting world of internet sales.
I did go swimming for a long time this lovely 4th of July weekend. I'm still trying to figure out if now I'm somewhat tanned or slightly burnt.

mrjayberry: Snakes are still legal. As long as you don't try to take them with you on the muthafuckin plane.
Disclaimer: I have no idea whether snakes or sparklers fall under any given fireworks ban. The joke just worked better that way.

I'm home in CNY for the 4th and it was just what the doctor ordered. In this case, the doctor ordered Yankees games and booze.

I believe that snakes and sparklers are Class C pyrotechnics and legal in most states. It's once you get above that, into your Class B fountains and Class A big guns (M80s, Roman Candles, Catherine Wheels), no worries for the most part. Why do I know this? I had an in-depth discussion as to pyrotechnic classifications with a toothless man at South of the Border at 3 in the morning whilst on a family car trip when I was twelve.
And I LURVE the SOAP reference.

I just took the trash out and had to watch a bottle rocket pass in front of my face. YAY! When I lived in Washington we were pretty big into fire works. Here though, you can't use mortars, so it's not as fun. Still fun though. ANd I love the snakes, and I love trying to light them all at once.

We're in Monday/off Tuesday as well, though we had the option to take a vacay day. I'm already taking Friday off to go see Pirates 2 in the wee morning hours, so I couldn't justify only working Wednesday and Thursday to myself. Although now it's starting to sound like a really great idea.
My buds just discovered a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs ROM on their Xbox. I watched the show a few times, but I totally didn't remember the awesome Mad Max angle they've got going on.
Looking forward to Disney Part Three!

I sure hope the Aerosmith Rock N Roll Roller Coaster is going to be a part of Part 3! I'd elaborate, but I'd rather leave it to Matt in his next article.
I didn't get a chance to go on the ride that simulates a space shuttle take off when I was down there (they were in the middle of building it).

Last night, on a whim, I decided to check out Matt's review of Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue again, which I haven't seen in years. And then I decided to search for it on Youtube, and lo and behold, in 4 parts, it's there. Click my name to get traumatized all over again.
Fortunately, the guy who posted it gives a shout-out to X-E to boot.

What a lucky Patron Saint... uh, I mean... nevermind.
The freaks next door set off some fireworks tonight, and I'm sure they will every night for the next week. Then again, they never need a holiday to set off fireworks.

Anyone else here see Superman Returns in IMAX 3D? It was definitely awesome, despite there being only 20 minutes of the movie released in 3D.
I never read the comics and have only seen the movies once...over 15 years ago. So it was kind of hard for me to be disappointed by Superman Returns...I always figured that was the best way to see superhero movies.
And Superman Returns ruled in my opinion...all except for the kid who played Lois Lane's son. I didn't realize you could do wooden acting at 7 years old, but apparently it is possible.

Thanks for the link to Cartoon All-Stars, Norbert. That was incredible. I can't believe they claim they consulted 4 (!) Ph.D.'s and an M.D. for that script. I think the fact that I watched this crap as a kid explains a lot about me today. I just reread Matt's review, and it's even funnier with the special fresh in mind.
Happy birthday Mars!

Man, it's been an age since I posted in here. How go things, people? The things with the going? yes? It's sunday night here in The Future, and I just got back from Town where I work in a bar 'til Insane Hours Of The Morning. Yeah. No sleep for me on saturday nights, whee. So I'm just sitting in front of the fire here, it also being winter in The Future, and bloody freezing. And checking up on various news and such that I missed over the weekend. Also fiddling with a new toy: Transformers: Cybertron's Ransack GTS. Yay for sales!

July 4th is my birthday! I'll be turning the big 27. We're in the middle of a drought out here in New Mexico. Can still light fireworks, just not the aerial kind or fire crackers. Doesn't stop some people though.

I live in California, where most fireworks (particularly the kinds that are launched) are illegal. I have a co-worker who went to Nevada to get his fireworks, and a week or so later, they were arresting people for transporting fireworks across the state line. And he says many of the people in his neighborhood are cops and judges, and they come to his house because he's the only guy with fireworks.
Chestnuts roasted by Thomas @ 07/02/2006 02:54 AM EST
I should clarify that the cops and judges don't come to arrest my co-worker, but just to watch him fire them off.

Tonight was spent killing a Sam Adams mutli pack, Arrogant Bastard Ale (it tastes like grapefruit juice!) and Dead Guy Ale, all while watching the Ghost Hunters season one boxset. Such a relaxing evening
Have a class monday, though. No 4 day weekend :/

What is with this posting-ban? Not very SNT friendly at all.
And while High Fidelity is the obvious choice, I must defend Advent Children, especially the American Dub. Somethings actually turned out better.
just a short list:
Reno: Yeah rude, looking good!
Reno: I'm still out here.
Reno: You're our buddy aren't ya?
Loz: You MEANIE!!!
Reno: Yeah, your mom's cool....WHAT THE HELL AM I SAYING?
Kadaj: I have an annnnnswer. I dunno I just love that vocal turn
Reno: hey paaaartner
Reno: Ooooh good.
Reno for president of the universe. My favorite FF NPC of all time. I've loved him since VII the game, it came through that much. Wasn't as big a fan of Rude until AC. He's perfect comic relief. Having a billboard dropped on your head? Great. Freakin' out that your shades got broke. Predictable. Having another pair on you? Priceless.

My wife bought me Advent Children for Father's Day... I fell asleep about fifteen minutes into it and haven't had the time to watch it since.
However, I have never fallen alseep while watching High Fidelity.
So far this weekend I have listened to a steady diet of nothing but Public Image Limited and read comic books (apart from my daddy/husband duties). I think now I'll watch Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.

Norbert: That's heroic.
So as of today, I no longer have television. The introductory deal I got when I first moved into this apartment expired today, and as a result I can afford cable internet or cable television, but not both. I like to think that none of you are surprised by my decision. So on the one hand, no more History Channel or Stewart/Colbert goodness. On the other hand, now I can go for weeks at a time without hearing Billy Mays' voice.
Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 07/02/2006 07:58 AM EST
It's been a helluva weekend in my neck of the woods.
First off, Oklahoma is reeeeealy weird when it comes to fireworks. Bottle Rockets are banned across the whole state, but other than that they pretty well leave it up to each town to make decisions on what is legal and illegal to fire off. So in Oklahoma City, for example, just about everything is banned, but if you drive 10 minutes to get out of the city limits and are in the country, it's a fireworks festival and no one cares. Which is even more bizzare considering there's a much bigger chance to catch things on fire in the country than in the city...but whatever...
As for the other fun-ness - last night (Sat.) my brother-in-law had his 30th birthday party. This resulted in my wife passing out drunk from waaaay to much cranberry juice and Grey Goose and an (American) Indian and a guy from Venezuela getting into a fist-fight in the front yard and the cops getting called out. Good times with alcohol!

Yup, New Jersey is shut down due to a budget fight. However, by court order, the casinos and racetracks are remaining open. So you folks can still gamble your asses off if y'all choose to go to AC or head to Monmouth Park or the Meadowlands for the ponies.
This is my first big holiday off the main drag of a beach town and I'm amazed at the utter quittude of my neighborhood. No parade going in front of my house, no BENNYs asking me mindless questions and assing up the streets, no fist fights over parking. I'm loving it. I can actually go food shopping and not have to park in the next town over and schlep all my shit across the lake and four blocks over. I have a driveway now, bitches!
And YouTube is kick ass. Kinda like the Usenet pre-9/11 when the monitoring started. They have the best collection of hockey fights ever.

On the subject of Fireworks, I have just had the most fire-fun ever!!! My Family has this picnic every year for thr Fourth of July, and my cousins and I take a ride to Ohio to visit Phantom Fireworks. This year we received a surprise when we went to check out. THEY MADE US FRIGGIN VIP MEMBERS!!! We got two Grandfinale 226 shot boxes BOGO, BOG everything, free ligthers, free T-Shirts, Free Mortars. We had to load TWO CARS to carry it all back. Ww were so ready to be the coolest Motherfuckers in Pennsylvania...until it happened. I guess there is, in fact, a downside to having two carloads full of fireworks to shoot into the sky in one night. I never would have believed it if you told me, but there was. The mortar tubes (mortars are standard fireworks shout from a tube into the sky to make a flowering effect) got too hot and caught fire. Basically 160 mortars went off at once. There were fireworks flying everywhere, and people were complaining about their cars getting ash all over them. No one got hurt thankfully and the show continued. We had a better display than most professional shows do. But the look on everyones faces when those mortars were going haywire was priceless. Kind of a slack jaw, oh my god that is coming straight at me but I can't move, kind of look. Hope everyone's holiday was/is at least this ekciting.

I love it, when the Grucci's decide to spend a week in Belmar and randomly set up and impromptu display on the beach. Kinda funny how there's not a cop to be found on the beach, but there's three cruisers at the Dunkin' Donuts across the street from it.
