Elm Street 2 was on a HBO channel today. Reminded me of Matt's review.

Man, that blog fix I implemented sucks. Everyone is having problems with it. Hopefully the guy who can actually fix it the right way will be online tonight. smile

Yay, SNT!

and weird... I just heard the "like a good neighbor state farm is there" commercial.

Dude, white spiders suck. I apparently had a nest of them in the odd corner of my room that I disturbed while packing. Bastards.

Speaking of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2, I saw it at TARGET for only 5.50. I will probably get it soon.
I am off on my big excursion to Antietam, Gettysburg, and Massena, NY (??) early Monday. smile

I've been reading this blog for awhile, but I still can't figure it out. What's the point of these SNTs? Is it just an opportunity for us to talk about random stuff?

Chestnuts roasted by Jono @ 06/17/2006 11:52 PM EST

I guess the SNTs are us saying, "Well, we're here on a Saturday night and we're not really part of any grander Internet subculture with which to waste our time, so we may as well make the best of it." I kind of look at it like this: It's like when you're online really, painfully late one night with no reason or drive to go to bed, and it's always a little better when that happens if a friend or two is on your buddylist. You might not be talking to them every second or even at all, but it's nice to know somebody's out there.

That, and we just like bullshitting.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/17/2006 11:56 PM EST

Hey pdac...did you play any of the Price is Right slots?

It's creepy...Rod Roddy's voice is still on a few of them

I also hate the vouchers...that clank-clank of the coins falling into the chute is sorely missed. And it's weird how there are still coin buckets available.

yeeeeeah!!

I'm writing it now. smile I'm on the Star Tours part.

And, the TV themed slots in Atlantic City kill me every time. Many of them can swallow like 50 quarters a turn.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/18/2006 12:04 AM EST

Hrm. I want to jump in here somewhere and say something, but I have nothing to say about slots or Nightmare on Elm Street.

But I don't want to just abitrarily post something.

OH SHI--

Who all here had the Freddy glove?

Chestnuts roasted by Ragnarok @ 06/18/2006 12:28 AM EST

Not only did I have the Freddy glove, I STILL have it.

When I first received it (back when I was 14 or so), I thought I got a bum item; damn thing was all torn to shreds!

Oh yeah...it's SUPPOSED to be like that. My bad.

Chestnuts roasted by Mike F @ 06/18/2006 12:39 AM EST

Ahhh, STAR TOURS. Only been on it once but I remember thinking that there should have been more Death Star, less inside a comet or whatever it was. Hey Matt, at least Teek from Battle for Endor makes it into the pre-ride safety video. I guess they wanted to get one last use out of the costume smile Did you catch that when you while you were watching?

WHy am I still awake? Teachers during the summer time...

Chestnuts roasted by The Manimal @ 06/18/2006 12:42 AM EST

Hah, Manimal, I got a pic of Teek and he was the best part of the whole ride for me. smile

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/18/2006 12:43 AM EST

Teek is the best part of anything anywhere ever.

Chestnuts roasted by Somethin' Funny. @ 06/18/2006 12:46 AM EST

On the Freddy glove:
Click my name for a rather creepy conversation.

Chestnuts roasted by Ragnarok @ 06/18/2006 12:47 AM EST

Star Tours is the best; my favorite bit is the smoker. I'm assuming that pic of Teek wasn't taken with FLASH photography big grin
Preliminary searchery (read: extremely preliminary) tells me that the first Saturday Night Thread that was just for Saturday's sake was from 06/04/2005, and just consisted of "It's 11:30. It's Saturday night. Why're ya here?" I actually remember that night distinctly because it was the night after I got my puppy and I was doing a lot of chasing, and running around with paper towels.
"[It's] always a little better when that happens if a friend or two is on your buddylist. You might not be talking to them every second or even at all, but it's nice to know somebody's out there."
Love this.

Good researching, Squee. That one is also significantly historically because it was the death nell of the Christmas layout. Some celebrate the 4th of July, others Bastille Day; Looks like 6/4/2005 is on its way to the history books.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/18/2006 03:38 AM EST

I've never had a Freddy glove. In fact, I hadn't even seen a Freddy movie until pretty recently. My mom wouldn't let me watch them when I was younger, and then as I got older things never really fell into place for a Nightmare On Elm Street viewing.

Now that I've seen them all however, the idea of owning a Freddy glove does sound very tempting. Not a crappy plastic one though. I want a real one that I could kill people with. Not that I'd actually kill anyone or anything, but sometimes it's good to know that that option's on the table.

Aww, and I ended up going to bed at about 9:30 last night because there was too much lightning to have any electronic stuff plugged in. For a while there, it was like a continuous strobe light, with uncomfortably close extra-bright strokes just to screw with the light sensors on nearby street lights. Entertaining stuff.

To post what I couldn't in the last post:

Kind of. (in replying to if I remember the Hairdini infomercial)

But I'll have to put my 2 pennies in for the immortal Showtime Rotisserie, for the same damn commercial that was filmed 6 years ago, and then the new one that was filmed 2 years ago that added the portions with the "Solid Flavor Injector"

It always seems on any weekend when I wake up and my tv isn't set on a specific channel, that infomercial is always on when I turn the tv on, and it makes me hungry as hell.

And my favorite aspects of the Magic Bullet besides the dirty chainsmoking Diner Waitress is that one of the "hosts" is British and his "lady partner" is probably the whitest american woman ever, and they both act like they do stuff like this regularly and all of their guests/tenants are always enamored, probably because "participating" in these ads is the only way they get their food, it would sure explain their unbridled enthusiasm.

And I'm about to pass out due to malnutrition of Disney articles.

Watched Comic Book, the Movie on DVD last night. It was funny.

Ehh, I'm late, but I turned in early last night. I ran a lot of errands and was barely able to think straight (or straighter than usual) by the time I got home.

I was on "Star Tours" a couple of months after it opened. I don't remember too much about the actual ride, other than my sister looked a little green after it, but I do remember standing in line and listening to the droids banter. I was a little nervous about the ride, since I was just coming out of my gigantic, all-consuming "Star Wars" obsession phase at the time (1990), which may explain my haziness on the ride's actual content.

Chestnuts roasted by MgwR @ 06/19/2006 06:36 AM EST

Lobsters cannot, despite what you have heard, scream. The high-pitched whistle produced when you boil them is caused by pockets of air inside their shell escaping.

That being said, they are big scary bugs, and your mom always told you not to eat stuff that looks like that.

JoshC Sound like another update that no one was asking for. Sometimes, Hollywood needs to leave things alone.

Joe in OH I don't think that there are THAT many people upset over BB being a camaro. I'm a "fanboy", and I like the idea. I think it would have sucked to see BB as a Beetle. It's kind of a fruity car. (NO offense to those who have one) but it doesn't exactly scream war machine at all, which is what the TF's are. I think there's ALOT of other stuff people need to worry about in terms of this movie.

Don't know if anyone else has been following the news on the movie, but if you are, are you worried it's going to be a crapfest, and in no way resemble Transformers at all? I mean, it will be called Transformers, but only because it has transforming robots.

I just feel nowadays, Hollyood changes things, "because they can", not because it's needed. I think that's what they're doing with the TF movie.

Nevermind the fact that Murphy's a fat fucking douchebag, and Bay non-stop ass rapes celluloid when ever he makes something, I just don't have a good feeling for this one.

BTW, best lobster I've ever had was at China Grill in Miami. If you're ever down there, I recommend going there. Expensive, but more than worth it.

Lobster mash potatoes....how I love thee....

Hey everyone, wanted to tell you a story. I went to the ice cream this past week for a treat. It ended up becoming an addiction. Everyday. They had WWE Ice Cream Bars. I haven't had them in about 15 years. So imagine a grown man goign to the ice cream truck ordering TWO WWE Ice Cream Bars every day. $4 well spent!

Now to find Ecto Cooler! The drink of the gods.

Hey, does anyone remember those furry blue and purple monsters dolls that had shackles on their wrists? I've been trying to remember what they were called and it's driving me crazy.

Chestnuts roasted by Deuce @ 06/19/2006 02:12 PM EST

Oh man hey deuce those where called my pet monster! They had a cartoon and everything! I had one and my cuzin had a football theme one. They were great but not too good to use as wrestling opponents. A few hits of his big ass green nose to the melon and you had some nice bruises and bumps! I remember his whole face from his fangs to his eyeballs to his gynormous nose being harder than something really hard! The shackles were great for playing cops and robbers tho.

Duece, I also believe that's My Pet Monster. Do a site search and you may be pleasantly surprised.
So I knew they were making changes to the Pirates of the Caribbean rides, but until today's LA Times article I didn't know how big they were (they've added Sparrow, Barbossa and Jones, plus music from the movie and stuff). I'm honestly not sure how I feel about them messing with it...anyone else, thoughts?

I loved my pet monster, always used as filler on Sunday afternoons along with the Beetlejuice cartoon.

I'm working at the company that produced it and there are cels up in the hallways, I'm always tempted to pry them off and run.

'My Pet Monster' was one of those toys I felt like I NEEDED in order to survive- I loved the show...but alas, no toy for me.

I don't know if I like them messing with the Pirates ride, either...I better read up on this!

Chestnuts roasted by Muppet Baby @ 06/19/2006 02:47 PM EST

Generally, the rule I follow is: if it ain't broke, don't fix it; and POTC the ride certainly isn't broken. Part of the ride's charm is that it is just a tad hokey since it is somewhat old and I think it should be left that way. It was bad enough when the ride was changed to make it more "politically correct." Then again, maybe I am just a sentimental dweeb.

CRETINS! Why?! Why?! WHY must they fool with they classics this way? First it was the submarine ride, then Mr. Toad, and now this... I understand opportunism. I understand that the folks at the Mouse House know how lucky they got by having Johnny Depp star in a poorly written and produced movie and turn in into ironic self-mockery that 90% of the audience just doesn't get and laughs anyway. I understand rabid marketing and rampant consumerism. I work for a Swiss Bank, for the love of God. But this -- THIS -- is going too far. My love/hate relationship with Disney has swung to hate yet again. It was bad enough when they tried to put a "history themed" park in the middle of Virginia's Civil War country. I was disgusted with the bowdlerization of the Pocahontas/John Smith story. But when Disney cannabalizes and exploits it's OWN history for no reason other than filthy lucre, I feel what little is left of my soul die off a little more. Is nothing sacred? I can understand not holding American history sacred -- few of us in this country do. But your own legacy? DAY-UM. It's times like this, you just have to ask yourself, What Would Walt Do? And then come to the conclusion he would murder the directors of the board in their sleep.

Chestnuts roasted by LemurCat @ 06/19/2006 03:30 PM EST

Hit the spam block, had to switch computers. Here's the link to the article. Interestingly, it seems to imply that the PC "chasing food instead of booty" amendments have been undone. Now that I've thought about it a little, I think I'm going to see this as an upgrade rather than a travesty. Especially if they have a really kickass animatronic Barbossa.

My Pet Monster! That was it! I always wanted one of those, but the powers that be (my parents) never got me one.

I remember going to Disney World when I was about 7. Out of all the rides, POTC is the one I remember best. That might be because my dad killed a snake while we were waiting in line for it.....

Disney was the only real vacation we ever took when I was a kid, but it was well worth it. We went to Univeral Studios and Nick too. I was pissed because all the good rides at Universal had broken down.

I made up for lost time. BTW, I've just discovered why I love XE: it's like Summer Vacation! Cool 80's toys and food will pop up unexpectedly at any time. God bless Matt and his http time machine!

Thought I'd toss in my Pirates memories.

We went to Disney back when I was...in grade 2. Don't make me do the age math.

We were got to the cannonballs part of the ride and some pirate shouted "Fie at will!" and me, with my Grade 2 humour, shouts back "Which one's Will?".

People laughed and that made my vacation.

I don't really feel like I missed out, though.

Galvatron: THANK YOU!!!
I was begining to think that nobody cared about the mischievious mr. voorhees...
and hey, can you tell me how you wrote my name in bold??, it'd look waay cooler if i was able to do that with your name, but, alas, i cannot..
and matt, i hope the lack of the new disney article means your making it extra-super-amazing-fantastic-0 and not that you've been kidnapped by vicious space creatures named aaaxnargz who only want to plunder your koolaid and probe your knowledge of eighties pop culture!!!

Mike F, thanks for that site. I'm still updating my windows media player to be able to use it, but it looks like it's all kinds of awesome. Now all I need to do is find some place where I can get episodes of Get Smart...

Old E:

Should you have included Shrinky Dunks in there?

Glow Worm maybe....

Shrinky Dunks? Mmm... sounds like some sort of mini dunkable donut treat!

Which reminds me, they still make Dunkaroos! I've had so many people tell me they don't, but they're WRONG, because they keep boxes of them at the snack table at work, and around 3pm every day I plop down 50ΒΆ to take a pack back to my desk.

Selvig:

Yes, the Shrinky Dinks should have been included, just because they were in the same box. Also, they should never be EXCLUDED because of how awesome they are. I mean seriously, can you think of anything cooler than coloring, cutting out, and BAKING (Yes they made kids use REAL ovens back then) Your own decorative figurines of your favorite TV characters? I mean tying up my wife with Pet Monster handcuffs is one thing, but Shrinky Dinks absolutely cannot and SHOULD NOT be overshadowed under any circumstance.
