I love Friday nights. If only it was rainy and moody. Then I could write poetry about how much I love Friday nights.

Friday still reminds me of TGIF on ABC... I still sing the song every friday, and then sadly realize there's nothing on television.

oh, it was rainy and moody here in cheeseland. Smelled real purty, too.

Thank Goodness...It's Funny!

I like the wiki for TGIF on ABC, there's some pretty interesting shit on there. Of course, it's wiki, so there's always interesting shit!

Sittin home tonight, no money, cars in the shop. OH well...just got "Batteries Not Included" at Hell-Mart for $5.50, so that's good!

No rain here, just...sort of chilly in the apartment.

Staying home on a Friday night: me reading while my husband plays GTA...and stuffing myself with pierogies.

Not too shabby, really. Being at home on a Friday night=way better than working on a Friday night.

It's raining in the midwest. And there's a country cover band playing 50 feet from my bedroom window. But that can't get me down, cause I really love Fridays.

Since everyone was too preoccupied flaming in the last blog, here's my post again verbatim:

On a less flame-war worthy topic, I just got back from seeing Cars, and I can sum up the movie in one word: AWESOME. I thought it was going to be bland and that Pixar couldn't do it again, but sure enough, they did. I've been waiting for this movie for 2 years and it did not dissappoint. If I wasn't broke, I'd give you all money to go buy tickets for it right now. And stay for the credits, there's some good stuff there.

There's lots of Pixar in-jokes throughout the movie, like we pass by the birds from "For The Birds", John Ratzenberger back again as Mack (and this whole thing with him is addressed, but I won't say how or when), and the Pizza Planet truck appears too, looking like the rest of the characters.

The cartoon that plays before the movie, One Man Band, is pretty funny too.

JoshC -

I've seen The Corporation, and it's a rather good documentary -- epsecially the DVD, with tons of bonus interviews, etc.

On a totally unrelated note, has anyone else heard the rumors of Brian Henson & Co. doing a sequel to Dark Crystal?

Review the World, it came up back in February. To paraphrase a couple of my posts:
Genndy Tartakovsky is signed to do the sequel to Dark Crystal! I have no idea if it's live action puppetry or animated or anything about Dark Crystal besides what's from the X-E review or even if I spelled that name right but I heart Dexter from way back so I'm stoked.
Okay, here are some details:
"Tartakovsky said that unlike in the pricey original film, for which otherworldly sets were built, the puppets this time around will operate amid a CGI backdrop.
"There is a limited budget here, and this will be more artsy, in a 'Sin City' fashion, with characters performing over greenscreen and great backgrounds behind it," he said."
Sounds pretty awesome to me. There's a plot summary too...I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say it sounds like it won't be vital to be familiar with the original to enjoy it.

The original article I got the info from was here. The Wikipedia page has a more detailed plot synopsis and production photo.

Wow, I haven't been here for a year. It's Saturday morning here in sunny South Africa, but I'm freezin'. Winter, see? And stolen internet tastes sweeter...

Hmm, I think I'll change my name to Arete. Just a thought.

Can't wait to see Cars, it hasn't opened here yet... X-men III was a letdown. Anyone else peeved?

Chestnuts roasted by eminentfreak @ 06/10/2006 05:15 AM EST

I didn't have any internet last night. Or the night before. Sorta takes the shine off one's Friday night. Even now, my internet is all slow and creaky. I need to go down to the Cox offices and give them what for. And I'm going to start my diatribe by shouting, "Hey, Cox!" Because toilet humor is the way to go when dealing with major telecommunications companies.

In other news: every night's Friday night when you're unemployed. On the other hand, every afternoon's Sunday afternoon when you're living in a college town over the summer. On the other hand, due to reasons that our physicists still don't precisely understand, every morning is Tuesday morning. To a greater or lesser extent.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 06/10/2006 07:48 AM EST

Jedoc-

You should end your diatribe by saying "You suck, Cox."

eminentfreak -- In retrospect, X3 *is* a let down, though an entertaining one. I spent all of last night and a good bit of the very early morning watching X1.5, X2, and then X3 and I have to admit my visceral reaction was to go find the over-grown frat boy Brett f*cking Ratner and slash his goddamned tires, especially as I've been reading the novelization of the original script and you realize just how poorly Ratner translated it to film. Ah well, such is life. We all have our limitations in this world.

On another note, how cold is cold in RSA? Because I didn't think it got cold there, but what the hell do I know about South Africa?

re: Japanese Turtles

So Japan looked at a television show about four human/turtle hybrids who live in the New York City sewer, use outdated surfer-dude slang, have an unhealthy fixation with pizza, learn ninjitsu from a giant rat, have battles with a guy wearing razor blades and a purple cape, two room-temperature IQ punks who have been turned into a mutant warthog and a mutant rhinoceros, and an alien talking brain, and who own their own blimp. Japan saw all of this, and they said, "This show is good. But it's just not weird enough. Let's throw in a magic power crystal that makes the aforementioned human/turtle hybrids transform into human/turtle/batman hybrids. And then they collectively turn into a human/turtle/batman/ultraman hybrid. Brilliant!"

Okay, Japan. At this point, you're just screwing with us, aren't you?

*Wonders if I'll actually be able to post...*

My days are completely screwed up. My boss decided to mess with my schedule and make me go into work from 6am till 2pm for the last 3 days. I'm SO not used to having to get up at freakin' 4am to get ready, so I'm pretty dead and sleep deprived.

I haven't seen Cars yet, but I'll tell ya - we can't keep the merchandise in at TRU. It's craziness. I'm so sick of looking at Tow Mater I could puke.

I wish it was all rainy and stuff here, too, even though it's Saturday... oh, shit I guess it's technically Sunday. :'( I could really go for that.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 06/11/2006 12:07 AM EST

I haven't been to the movies in forever. I just suck, I guess. I don't want to go on the weekends because there's too many people and the 1 weekday I have off a month I'm too damn lazy to go. Or I'm paying off $1000 vet pills. razz

Last time I was in a movie theater was for um... Batman Begins. Yep.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 06/11/2006 12:37 AM EST

Ryane, how do you think I feel? I work at a KB Toys, I'm the same way, but it must be 10x bigger at TRU. The collectors....Always want The King, Wingo, Lizzie & Sarge (I have yet to even SEE the Sarge figure it's that rare), and any of the others characters that's not Lightning nor Mater are getting incredibly scarce.

And I like Larry the Cable Guy (not LOVE him, but I like him), and I thought he did a good job in this movie, and a perfect fit for Mater.

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 06/11/2006 02:25 AM EST

last movie I saw was 16 Blocks, with Bruno and Mos Def. That was the first I've seen of M.Def. I don't really want to see the Hitchhiker's Guide...I've heard not so good things about it.

I just started re-reading the Trilogy though...I'm right in the middle of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
I def. the first 2 are the best. Although the flying in So Long is cool, listening to Mark Knopfler!

anywhore...where the hell is everybody? Y'all got dates...I know. I suck. Whatev.

Scooby Doo 2 was actually kind of cool...I like Seth Green. He was great in Party Monster!! Method acting for him and Mac? Possible...I bet.

I checked out the first episode of the Ninja Turtle anime. Not particularly good, but not as bad as I expected. It did motivate me to update my site with a review though, so I guess that's good at least.

Chestnuts roasted by Jeff @ 06/11/2006 04:11 AM EST

Japanese turtles pushed my WTF meter dangerously close to the limit. It didn't help that I watched an episode of Chuck Norris' Karate Kommandos (take that MK) on Cartoon Network. They had an episode of the Mr T show after that, but one man can only take in so much awesome.

Chestnuts roasted by Ed @ 06/11/2006 05:44 AM EST

I'm torn. Pixar knows that anything with shiny computer graphics is likely to get my seven-fifty. On the other hand, every time I hear Larry the Cable Guy's voice, my soul dies a little. Mostly because he reminds me of Thanksgiving dinner with my extended family. Yeah, I've got a lot of dangerous genetic material floating around my bloodstream.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 06/11/2006 07:42 AM EST

Actually, Norbert, since everything in the line is kinda small, we don't even have that big of a setup for it. We have it all on the side of the service desk, across from our ginormous Superman feature shop. They keep sending us those stupid talking banks and the Tow Tipping Mater, but no one wants those - they all want the matchbox type cars, and yeah, once you put them out, they are gone 15 minutes later. Always a few Lightning McQueen's hanging lonely on the pegs... And yeah, they definitely don't send every one of them in the same box. There's a few I haven't seen yet either.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 06/11/2006 09:19 AM EST

I'm sure Cars will be a fun movie to watch a time or two. But, ah... how I long for the old days of animation. Spending years and years meticulously hand crafting works of art. I'll take that over CG and fart jokes anyday.

Chestnuts roasted by Mystie @ 06/11/2006 12:11 PM EST

Lemurcat: i live in East London, a city on the south-east coast of south africa. We have the world's best climate in winter- hot dry days in-between cold fronts that sweep in from the subantarctic. We don't get much colder here than 5 degrees Celsius at night. Johannesburg can get as cold as -2 deg C. We don't really get snow, though...

Chestnuts roasted by eminentfreak/arete @ 06/11/2006 01:29 PM EST

I know this is tiresome, but how do you do a Dark Crystal sequel when there's only two Geflings in existence? It begs the question: after the second generation, how do you get more Geflings? Incest? That this occurred to me when i was six just shows simple human nature. Ie kids have very forthright little minds... (This bothered me about Thundercats as well... Who was Wilykit gonna marry?)

Chestnuts roasted by arete @ 06/11/2006 01:40 PM EST

I was home on Firday night. I watched Rent, which I must say is one of the best musicals known to man. If I ever get a chance to hit up broadway, I am so going to see Rent. It came to Sacramento at one time, but that was when I was some high school kid with no money and my parents would've ben appalled at the idea of taking me to such a show. Needless to say, my parents are very conservative.

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 06/11/2006 01:54 PM EST

I'm pretty sure the last thing I saw at the movies was Kong, but Nacho Libre is coming soon, and from there a dozen others worth seeing.
kidneyboy, Mos Def is the bright spot in the mostly painful Hitchhiker's...Martin Freeman is also a very good Arthur and Alan Rickman is fitting as Marvin but the movie itself lacks most of the humour and any of the charm of the books. It's not going to scar you for life by watching, but it's not going to get a cherished spot on your DVD shelf either.
Entourage is back tonight, but I can't bring myself to be particularly excited. I'm looking forward to Tourgasm though; I saw Dane Cook at the Laugh Factory last night (hilarious), which got me even more jazzed about the show. There was some other HBO casting news that made me happy too...Some lady got added to the cast on Rome (which was exciting simply as verification that they are in fact bringing the show back), and Harry Potter himself (Dan Radcliffe) is showing up on a episode of Extras. If only I had gotten into Deadwood; I would have so much to celebrate.
