"Kids! Bringing about Armageddon can be dangerous. Do not attempt it in your home."

~Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Good Omens

^^ Dude! I love that book. Made me pick up all that is Gaiman, and is leaving me tense for the upcoming movie MirrorMask. Makes me wanna whoot! like only Arsenio Hall can.

So, tomorrow is 6/6/06. I wonder if the new Omen will even come close to the original. I mean, Julia Stiles?!? Will the end of the movie have Damien whip off his geeky 666, only to find out he's one of the hottest kids in the 3rd grade and ends up w/ a date to the Prom? I just can't take her seriously. They might as well have cast Leelee Sobieski, made Richard Thorn into a nrevous Jew and turned Damien into a girl named Mabel. Yeesh.

I left alone my mind was blank,
I needed time think to get the memories from my mind

What did I see? Can I believe that what I saw
that night was real and not just fantasy?

Just what I saw in my old dreams, were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me?

Cos in my dreams it's always there
the evil face that twists my mind
and brings me to despair

The night was black, was no use holding back
Cos I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
was this all for real or just some kind of hell?
666... the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised
as they start to cry hands held to the sky
In the night the fires burning bright
the ritual has begun Satan's work is done
666... the number of the beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on I must inform the law
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream?
but I feel drawn towards the evil chanting hordes
they seem to mesmerise me...can't avoid their eyes
666... the number of the beast
666... the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I have the fire I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take it's course

p.s. is anyone actually going to see the Omen remake this week?

Sweet, Gaiman fans! Trajeal, mirrormask has been on dvd for months now, check it out, it's awesome.

Anyone have dumb 6/6/06 stuff in their local news? A school here shut down and some local moms had c-sections yesterday to avoid having their own little Damiens. sheesh.

Gaiman fans are all well and good, but where my Pratchett beeyotches at? I have all his books, you're jealous.

Terry Pratchett said that if he and Neil Gaiman ever wrote a sequel (and they say they absolutely won't) they'd call it "668: The Neighbor of the Beast".

if anyone was wondering, just saw the new omen movie... it was pretty sub-par. Haven't seen the origional so cant compare, but besides for things popping out at you, there is no fear to be had, none...
and its good for a few laughs so that could perhaps make it worth while, but ill leave it at that.
Anyone else here see it?

HEY THERE FOLKS! JUST THOUGHT YOU HIP KIDS SHOULD KNOW THAT PEPSI IS COMING OUT WITH "PEPSI GOLD". UN FORTUNATELY, IT'S ONLY IN THAILAND. CHECK OUT THIS NEW REPORT.World Cup fever has hit Thailand with a gold-coloured cola being made available, according to local reports.

Thai newspaper The Nation said yesterday (5 June) that Pepsi
Close pop-up
-Cola (Thai) Trading has unveiled limited edition Pepsi Gold in the country. The drink tastes the same as normal Pepsi, but differs only in appearance and packaging, the paper said.

“Thailand is one of Pepsi’s key markets around the world for launching the complete line of sport marketing activities consisting of exciting television commercials, attractive promotional campaigns and the launch of new product and packaging innovations,” Charlie Jitcharoongphorn, the bottler’s marketing director, was quoted as saying in the report.

Editorial Comment

Interesting to see Pepsi not resting on its laurels as the tournament approaches, what with arch-rival Coke being one of the official sponsors.

“We expect to boost Pepsi’s share of the cola drink market by 0.5 percentage points to 63.5% due to this year’s sports marketing campaign,” Jitcharoongphorn added.

A Pepsi Gold television commercial titled ‘Autograph’, starring French footballer Thierry Henry and supermodel Claudia Schiffer, will air soon, the report concluded.

I was about to say that Eddie Lightning Frog had the BEST POST EVER,but then of course Yeti had to go and beat him sad
And I also love Neal Gaiman. His comics are better than his books, but his books are awesome too.

Welsh Rabbit: Ooh, ooh! Me! I'm a Pratchett beeyotch! That's why I picked up the book, actually. I was all out of Discworld novels and tired of waiting for Thud! to go to paperback. Fortunately, the book turned out so well that it made me a Gaiman fan too. Not, I feel compelled to point out, a Gaiman beeyotch, but I suppose time will tell. To this day, I use Pratchett's explanation of the origin of the universe. "In the Beginning, there was Nothing. Which exploded."

trajeal -
Upcoming movie Mirrormask? It's sitting on my shelf. Did I miss something?

Chestnuts roasted by Jessica Marie @ 06/07/2006 09:26 AM EST

No, apparently I missed something. I wasn't watching Internet buzz - I actually was waiting for it to show up in the theatre. If it did, it wasn't in theatres around here. Guess I'll be checking Amazon. Harumph.

I wonder how many babies were born on 9/11? A woman from my old playgroup was born on the day of the Tate/LaBianca murders by the Manson crew. She said her mom sat, watching the news and wondering about Sharon Tate's lost baby. In reality, that could have been any pregnant woman and her baby. Not that the mothers could have had c-sections to avoid that like they can for 6/6/06. What dr would agree to that? "Risking" the mother and baby's lives to avoid superstition?

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 06/07/2006 11:27 AM EST

Oh, that was why Greymatter had a brain fart and wouldn't let me post yesterday. Twas the Debbil whut did it. Aw, he's just mad over that story I told at Hallowe'en. Did every one have a nice Beezilbubapalooza? I had a Ba'al! Just a Nick here and a Scratch there. Actually, just spent time Satan around the house.

I wasn't born on the day, but I was like two weeks old when Chernobyl happened (and in Austria). My mom says she freaked out for a while because I was so little. Friend of mine was born on the actual day, but in New Mexico, so the effects were a bit dissapated by the time they reached him smile

Jedoc and trajeal are wise men indeed for the Good Omens love. It's a great book, and one of the only ones I could think of where a comparison to the Hitchhiker's Guide series is actually valid.

I've still got a copy of American Gods I've got to read, though. I should really read more often, but right now...well, Kingdom Hearts II is just more tempting.

Also, I'm sure this has been mentioned in a blog's comments section before, but I saw The Garbage Pail Kids Movie at Wal-Mart for cheap (I want to say $7.50, but I don't remember hte price) and on DVD. I'm almost tempted to buy it, but I know those kids would give me nightmares. Them costumes are TERRIFYING.

Chestnuts roasted by Paul @ 06/07/2006 10:37 PM EST

American Gods was meh. Ever since I was a kid I've loved mythology, but that book felt a little directionless and gratuitously disgusting.

So is Sam Raimi going to totally fuck up The Wee Free Men? People need to stop trying to adapt Pratchett's work because it makes me angry.

Chestnuts roasted by Welsh Rabbit @ 06/07/2006 11:09 PM EST

scary!

Chestnuts roasted by WalkingSnake @ 06/08/2006 01:18 AM EST

Paul...it doesn't matter how much it is, or how much it would scare you, the kids, the cats, or the neighbors...you MUST buy that movie!
Seriously, the kids are kinda gross looking, but in a more ridiculous, unbelievable, "Howard the Duck" way.

And oooohh, that Tangerine!

anyway, it's not a GREAT cinematic masterpiece...okay, it's pretty bad, and actually kind of hard to watch too...but it's the fucking GPK movie!! Buy that shit before someone else does!! Buy two!!

I'm still saving up for the cartoon DVD set, aw yeah!

Chestnuts roasted by kidneyboy @ 06/08/2006 01:31 AM EST

it's all for you, matt!

Chestnuts roasted by bub @ 06/08/2006 02:01 AM EST

Welsh Rabbit: I agree. While American Gods was interesting, it's the least fun Gaiman book I've found so far. I much prefer Anansi Boys, so far as mythology goes. Of course, I've always been a sucker for trickster gods.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 06/08/2006 08:02 AM EST

I hope I'm not disappointing the Gaiman and pratchet fans out there, but I never got all the way through Good Omens.

I've tried twice, altough I may have been in non-reading moods. Grabbign a random book for byus trips does that I guess, and it suffered that fate.

I've gotten lectures from my wife and quite a few Indigo workers over this.

Chestnuts roasted by selvig @ 06/08/2006 08:38 AM EST

Earthquake was the man! Was he really golga? R.I.P. John Tenta.

Paul: Kingdom Hearts II was great! Finished it about a month ago. If I wasn't playin the new (old) grand theft auto I'd probably play it again.

Anybody excited about the return of ECW?

Chestnuts roasted by PRSense @ 06/08/2006 01:13 PM EST

Oh yea almost forgot, didn't howard the duck bang the chick from back to the future? I mean I know they didn't show the full on hardcore duck on girl action, but it was pretty much implied wasn't it?

Chestnuts roasted by PRSense @ 06/08/2006 01:16 PM EST

Expecting Someone Taller by Tom Holt. Great story of some poor shmendrick gaining the Niebilung and Tarnhelm. Also by the same author, Flying Dutch. Find out how much fun it is to watch a sailor cursed with immortality try to commit suicide.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 06/08/2006 04:31 PM EST

yeah, they got it on. that movie made me... uncomfortable.

Chestnuts roasted by bitchpants @ 06/08/2006 04:36 PM EST

I second that discomfort, and third it as well.

Though after watching a documentary on killer whales last night, I'm way more uncomfortable thinking about being stuck in a pool with one or just innocently swimming...something bumps against your leg...you look down and HOLY SHIT it's a killer whale.
This is how I'd spend the summer when I was little, freaking out in the pool.
My husband contends that he'd rather be surprised by a killer whale than a school of harmless herrings.

Chestnuts roasted by Jessica Marie @ 06/08/2006 06:10 PM EST

the garbage pail kids movie, howard the duck perversion.. let's face it, the 80s was a really f*cked up decade. i love it tho

i'm looking forward to the rob zombie halloween too.. i can imagine some fans will prob b outraged or whatever, but the last what, 7 halloweens haven't exactly been cinematic gems anyway.

Chestnuts roasted by doc bong @ 06/08/2006 08:59 PM EST

Jedoc: Thanks, I haven't heard any details about Anansi Boys. I should give it a try.

Did anyone buy the new double edition hardback of Good Omens? The inside book is the same, but the covers are different and one highlights Pratchett, the other one highlights Gaiman. It would take a crazy collector to get both just to make them match, but we're all kinda crazy collectors, right? smile

Chestnuts roasted by Welsh Rabbit @ 06/08/2006 10:01 PM EST

Great. Now I can just see this double edition business bringing roving gangs of rival nerds into my library, arguing loudly about which one better represents the true nature of the partnership, providing textual examples, until I am forced to leap upon the circulation desk and lay about me mightily with Volume One of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary. Verily.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 06/08/2006 10:10 PM EST

Dammit!

I was so excited for the world to end. And I jacked all of those funnel cakes for nothing.

Chestnuts roasted by Cotter @ 06/08/2006 11:57 PM EST

Anyone else remember Tenta when he was Golga of the Oddities in the late 90s I believe it was? The Insane Clown Posse were part of the group as well.

Chestnuts roasted by Frank @ 06/09/2006 06:36 PM EST

I bought the GPK cartoon with much excitement. I hate it. I am keeping it as an oddity, my love of GPK cards that drove much of a coupla years of my childhood, and the hopes that it will be more entertaining when I get drunk with my friends and need somehting to watch.

The GPK movie I loved as a kid. Just hated that there were so few in the movie. It's only now that I realize "killing" characters in movies is about as permanent as Darth Vader's survival outside of his mask. I would gladly buy it for what I wasted on the Cartoon. Meh bah.

This is the second time today I've heard of a Zombie/Halloween connection. Guess there must be something to it. I will be looking THAT up after this.

Good Omens was an awesome book. I forget why but I remember the end leaving me a little cold. Not enough to make me not like/love the book, but enough to forget the specifics as to what happened at the end.

Didn't think to celibrate 6/6/06. and now I never will, baring 2106 and my survival, which is entirely plausible. Eh well.

And color me ig'nit, but what's the pic? I should probably know, but I don't. Peter Murphy? Cillian Murphy circa 1980's? Murphy Brown's creepy goth male clone?

Chestnuts roasted by spooky @ 06/12/2006 05:07 AM EST
