My school served pizza in the hot lunch line that was more like a giant communion wafer covered in tomato soup and Grade D beef.
It was truly disgusting.
But anyhoo, that F13 DVD_TV thing was indeed awesome. Young Jason is now a Jewish Reggae singer.

A Jewish Reggae singer and a very nice dude to boot. My only regret is that they went with the original F13 for the DVD TV treatment. Would've preferred...well, 2, 3 or 4 specificially. Anything with Jason.
Anyone else catch that girl's mistake? One of the actresses from F13 claiming to be "Jason's first victim?" Uh, honey, no, you were Pamela's first victim. Big difference.

I caught a bit of the F13 DVD thing, and it seemed cool. However, I'm too entranced by the new Hitchcock 15-DVD box set (which is, in my opinion, the perfect viewing for Halloween week) to watch anything else.
And Friday Part 4 is outrageous. I'll let you, the X-Entertainment readers, decide if that's in a good or bad way.

I also just watched the dvd-trivia version of Friday the 13th and a little bit of part 4 on AMC...very cool. These movies never get old. My friend told me about this interesting article about the 25th anniversary of Friday the 13th. I really want to get the book they talk about in the article, looks pretty damn nifty for a book about an unstoppable mongoloid.

This might be sacrilege, but I'd probably keep the collection of K.C. boxes and just throw away the expired food inside. You could always take a picture of the food and put it in the box after tossing the rotten fixin's.
That pizza reminded me of that oatmeal that had the gimmick of the squeezeable fruit-type pack that you were supposed to draw on the oatmeal with. It was probably in stores somewhere around 15 years ago. I don't know why that cereal stands out so vividly in my mind (I can even remember the taste of the fruit-flavored product goop), but it does. Once again X-E unlodges another burried memory that I hadn't thought of in over a decade.

Gozer: That would be "Oatmeal Swirlers." As I recall, the commercial made the juicy stuff look sooooo good. Wasn't as great in reality, but damn yo.
It's that kind of misrepresentation that reminds me of the old Gummi Bears episode that featured taffy falling all over the town, and it looked much better than the real taffy I'd eat soon after. I wanted big wet globs of cherry red taffy.

For good microwaveable pizza, Digourno ROCKS.
We seem to be swimming in Halloween goodness over here. Had no trouble finding cereals, Jones Soda, or PB2. Heck, I even found $1 B&W horror/sci-fi DVDs, Great Pumpkin Fruit Snacks and Halloween shaped Corn Chips. Although costumes are now discounted even in Halloween shops.

Yep, vegans aren't too pleased with meat being made to look less than the animal it used to be in in general, and forming it into fun shapes to make it more appealing to kids is pretty bad in my eyes.
Geez... I thought us Catholics forced things on kids (wow... that had two meanings, and I mean both of them with my tongue firmly in cheek), but meat shaped like fun little Halloween stuff?
Okay, back to the article... then I'm going to go form broccoli into little bats in formal protest.

Just wanted to pop in and say hello to all the loyal X-E'ers. Finally put the finishing touches on the haunted yard this year and wow I am getting an awesome response. I have neighbors and strangers alike stopping and taking pictures and even looking forward to next year. The Missess is not happy about all the attention but you guys and gals would appreciate it. I am doing my part to keep Halloween alive through the 31st. Keep up the good work Matt.

Was Kid Cuisine out when we were young? I don't remember. I do remember eating too many TV dinners. And I always ate the dessert. I got the one with the weird crumbly cranberry stuff. It always had a strange sort of skin on it when you nuked it. Ugh.
QUESTION TO THE VEGANS:
Is it wrong to desire tofurkey, tofu-bacon etc.? Is is wrong to desire the taste of flesh, even if it is not an actual animal? I always wondered that.

kb--depends on when you were young. I was born in 1984, and by 1990 I seem to remember feasting on their chicken legs and tasty brownies. I, too, remember the fruit dessert, and I loved that skin. It's like the gunk on top of a cup of hot cocoa.
I'm no vegan, but in my opinion, they'd be crazy not to love vegan-meat. I prefer Boca Burger original vegan to actual hamburgers.

kb & mtrox -- I think it depends on the vegan. And I'd rather eat a box of Morningstar Farms "buffalo chicken" flavoured soy protein nuggets than real hot wings any day of the week. Those things rock.
And they almost fit the Kid Cuisine nuggest theme.
Also, I have news on the Target Baby Werewolf front. His name is Scary Harry. He really wants to come home and live with me. In fact, part of my To Do List for today is to write the Target Corporation and reprimand them severely for not developing an array of cheap Scary Harry figurines and paper goods which I could greedily spend my nickels on.
Am I understanding correctly? Do we just skip over the Thanksgiving Holi-hum and on to Christmas after this?
Back to Halloween -- Coffin Joe: At Midnight I Take Your Soul [À Meia-Noite Levarei Sua Alma (1964)]. This movie rocks HARD, and it's the first in a series of Brazilian bogey man movies by writer/director/actor/producer José Mojica Marins. If you can't handle watching someone eat lamb in the middle of Lent, this is not the movie for you.

*sigh* I have been given the task of coming up with Halloween themed party games for my second graders class for their *Fall Festival. Any ideas. I found a drinking game for watching horror movies, you toss one back every time someone died or screamed, don't think that will work. It sucks to be an involved parent. PS At the mall near my hometown they already have Santas playground constructed as well as the throne from which he reigns, hows that for the Christmas rush?

bloodybrilliantme When I was a kid my mom threw Halloween parties for me and my friends. She made up a Halloween version of Pictionary. It's probably just right for 2nd graders. Just get slips of paper and write halloween things items(ghosts, pumpkins, bats etc.) then have each kid pick one and draw it on an easel while the other kids try to guess what it is.
My mom also made a special version of pin the tail on the donkey. Instead of a donkey she made a giant construction paper pumpkin that already had its triangle eyes. Our mission was to complete the carved face by trying to stick its smile on him.

Lisa Marie, Sallisaw is locatd in Eastern Oklahoma. We are on the border of Arkansas, 20 miles from Fort Smith. Tiny town, thogh we were where the subjects from the novel and movie "The Grapes of Wrath" hail. The weather is unusal for us this time of year. No rain for 3 weeks (read:very dry) and cold. Lows at night in the 30's and 40's highs in the 50's and 60's. Just last week the high was 92. Weird weather, almost, dare I say it, spooky? And to Carri, the Pictionary is a wonderful idea. I have 2 and a half hours to fill, and you know the attention span of youngun's can be, well, brief. Thanks for your help.

In the western half of the Sooner State, we had a nice frost on everything this morning. Sometime this week, I will probably be volunteered to carve a Jack O'Lantern for a niece's class. I do quick simple work on a pumpkin and let the kids feel the pumpkin guts and check out the safety knives I use when I carve for kids.
Speaking of Grinning Gourds, I am going to limit my spontaneous postings this week, starting tomorrow. The reason is, I'm finally going to post my four-part debacle, an elaboration on the traditional origin of the Jack O'Lantern. I figure by the time Friday (and part four) rolls around, everyone will be nearly fed up with me, but not quite. Kinda the equivilant of bringing a plate full of homemade treats to the on-line holiday party that is X-E around this time of year. And, yeah, I have minimal cooking and writing skills.

KB, et al, I eat vegan "meat" like I can't even describe. My reasoning is that I didn't give up meat because I didn't like the taste, so if I can get something close to the taste why not? Eating flavored wheat gluten (conveniently called seitan and pronounced "say-tan" so I can scare the other Catholics) that tastes almost exactly like meat doesn't cause any suffering, so it's okay by me.
I know some vegans who no longer like the taste of meat, and that's cool too, but I have to say it's elitist as hell when vegans say it's somehow unethical to eat fake meat.
By the way, I make a damn good vegan "chicken" in lemon-olive-rosemary sauce. Can't say it's my recipe, but it rocks my socks.

I was just now looking at the picture of the mini pizza with the pizza sauce face and came up with a great idea for a horror movie monster. A man with a freakishly round head with peeling skin. Just before he kills someone blood could start oozing out of the black empty orifices that are his eyes and mouth. He could wear a long shreded coat but have no body. He could just float and have hundreds of worm like fingers that slither out of the sleeves. Damn, I should get into movies. Bacta Burger :o

Okay, I actually remember when they first started Kid Cuisine about 15 years ago. KC Penguin used to be BJ Penguin and he was more pear-shaped and wore a Hawaiian shirt. He was teamed up with a polar bear named Chef who naturally wore a chef's outfit. I vaguely recall the first KC trays were covered in mazes or some sort of artwork.

In my ramblings over various stores in the county, I've only seen the chicken nugget Halloween Kid Cuisine. I didn't even know there was more out there. I haven't eaten a TV dinner in a while. I used to do them for a quick before-work lunch, but even the Healthy Choice meals have too much salt and (to a lesser degree) sugar to fit my diet.

If I wasn't so lazy, I might be on the hunt for these. I do enjoy hearing about the Kid Cuisine.
And the Oatmeal Swirlers- I distinctly remember one time when I had that for breakfast and I was just squeezing the "swirler" part into the bowl (no plans for any design), and what came out looked exactly like a deer. I flipped out and called my Mom in to take a picture. It was great. But then again, I was maybe five or so.

On the subject of vegan meat-stuff, I'd say it's a weird thing. I've never known anyone who's gone vegan because they didn't like the taste of meat (actually, I know someone who claims to be vegetarian because they don't like meat's taste, but she eats certain animals), and there's nothing about fake meat that breaks the high-and-mighty vegan moral pretensions. It's really strange, though - In going vegetarian, and eventually vegan, I sort of conditioned myself to not like meat. The smell of a chicken cooking disgusts me, yet poorly named foods like "Chick'n" patties, which, I believe, taste fairly accurate, are great to me.
As far as the question posed by Matt, I say that if you're going to choose to eat meat anyway, or, for the tykes, if your parents are going to tell you that you must eat meat, have some fun. I don't eat any of that junk because I can't. I've read and heard too much about animal products for my brain to allow my mouth to accept meat. I didn't just go vegan because it seemed like it might be fun. If you're already capable of eating chickens, they might as well be shaped as bats.

The 4th KC 'ween meal is spaghetti with meatballs. The duck is dressed as a mummy and the sides are a hunk of fudge and corn. No spooky fixin's at all. I've only eaten a Kid Cuisine meal once in my life and the experience was far from pleasant. About ten years ago I ate a meal which contained so much sodium that upon completion of said meal I practically drank my weight in water. I don't know if all Kid Cuisines are that salt infested, but since that day no product bearing that cartoon penguin, however Halloween themed it may be, has appealed to me.

That "DVD TV" shit AMC did with the original F13 flick...THUMBS UP. If you don't know what I'm talking about, AMC just ran the original Friday the 13th with the lower third of the screen blocked off for a running text trivia session, and though I've read pretty much every factoid in my extensive research of All Things F13 before, the gimmick kept me glued to the screen for however long the movie was on. Would be great to see more films get that treatment. What fun. Speaking of fun, now they're showing F13 IV, so I'm going to leave you in a hurry with Monday's entry on the Halloween Countdown:
