There's a place called Chicago Brewery here in Las Vegas that has an excellent blueberry microbrew. It doesn't actually have blueberries floating in it like that though.. err.
Incidentally, did anyone catch that ABC Family is going to have a halloween marathon for 13 nights? Granted that the movie titles kind of _suck_ (Ghost??).. just the same, it's something. Tonight is the Sixth Sense:

Not sure I'm sold on the idea of blueberry beer. I guess it could be good, but I tend to like a spicy/hot contrast with my brew as opposed to a sweet/sour one.
That said, I am a big fan of sweet potato beer, so I may give it a shot.

slightly off topic but still a weird food combo and good in the fall season: my parents used to own an upscale restaurant where one of the dishes was "maple angus" basically a steak with syrup on it instead of A1 sauce...might sound weird but trust me...its friggin good!...i suggest all to try it

Someone mentioned the Halloween marathon on ABC family...if your into that, you would also probably want to check out the Disney channel Halloween marathon. But if your into un-sanitiszed Halloween marathons like myself, check out the one on AMC all next week (http://games.amctv.com/Monsterfest05/Horrorfest/final_pdf.pdf ) It looks like they have a pretty decent selection and also "I Love the 80'S 3D" is on next week...all in all, it's going to be a great week for television!

Mmmmmmmmm.....Beer.....Spent most of yesterday killing my friends in Quake 4 deathmatch. Yeah we're a bunch of dorks. We LAN up every tuesday and do dorky things. We make lots of Beavis and Butthead refrences and immitate Meatwad a lot too. We are dorks and we are proud. My friends will certainly get a kick out of The Bunghole. It has officially become my desktop....

Last week's Rome was so awesome. I like Octavian though...that's who you mean by kid, right? Cause there's also the little slave boy named after the dead bird but he's not so much hateable as forgettable. I thought it was kind of neat to speed forward in time the way it did, too, especially when they use a segue like they did

Depends on what kind of wine you're drinkin'. If it's the stuff that costs less than five dollars then yeah, you're getting a headache. I've had the Vampire wine, btw. Not bad, but kind of disappointing as far as having pretty much nothing to do with vampires beyond the label and color goes. I guess if it's from Transylvania that's kind of a bonus. But you can't help but feel there should be more.

Pumpkin Pie is my favorite. In fact, MCD's is selling those pumkin pies again.
Am I the only one that finds it depressing that not just the department stores that are gearing up for Christmas before Halloween, but that those specialty Halloween Stores are already discounting stuff. Saw a life-size motion activated talking Freddy at one, but it's expensive. Also saw costumes where you can dress up like poop, a condom, and a fat chick falling out of her bikini.
Rome does indeed rock. Although I do kind of get confused of who's who due to the numerous characters.
Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is on this Tues on ABC. That seems to be the only Halloween special anyone is willing to show now. Everyone else does theme episodes or marathons. AMC is doing a pop-up trivia version of the first Friday the 13th on Sunday.
Tried Strawberry Slime today and liked it. Tasted like Big Red Soda, which is weird since I don't really like cream soda.
Speaking of blueberries, I finished off my box of Booberry Cereal today. It was ok. Wish it had a more blueberry taste to it though (although fruit cereals rarely taste like fruit anyway).

Hey Matt, good news then. The classic He-man series is finally out on DVD. A six-DVD set with the 1st 33 episodes of the first season is released with apparently perfect sound and video quality. It also bears a 50-minute documentary and 50 character bios. It seems like a really good set.

Good news on the MOTU DVDs...will definitely be picking those up. Saavy web users have been spoiled by the countless downloads available, but for "normal" folks, it's going to be a thrill to see that again.
I also remember hearing something about the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special coming to DVD. That almost warrants rewriting my review.

Does anyone else have the feeling of the downhill slide to halloween? I've bought Hi C, cheetos, mini snickers, gum and temp tattoos for the trick or treaters bags I'm making. But something is missing. what neat thing would you have been delightedly surprised to get in your bag. I only get about 50 trick or treaters so I'm willing to spend up to 50 cents on each item. Throw ideas my way. 11 Days and counting!

I roadtripped my weekend to the midwest and stopped at a huge ass Walmart. There, to my delight, I found Halloween underwear in the standard run-of-the-mill Halloween candy aisle. It was SOOOooo misplaced and funny to see it there.

My thoughts exactly.
I also find it odd that the Apple Cinnamon Bun booth sold only three things that weren't beverages:
- Apple Cinnamon Buns (obviously) w/ice cream
- Cookies
- and...pickles?!
I can't say too much, though, because I'm just the type that would order a cinnamon bun with a pickle on the side (to cut the sweet.)

I only just found out Octavian's place in history...I must shamefully admit that my only source of knowledge about the whole era comes from Shakespeare. I think Octavian is a total ass but I love the way he deals with his mom so he grew on me. I originally totally hated on OctaviA but I warmed up to her in recent episodes, even before the sapphic hijinks. Atia still stands as my fav female character, but Cleo is quite charming as well.

ABC Family has done this ever since it was Fox Family way back when.
Speaking of which, does anyone else remember the exclusive cartoons Fox Family used to air? I'll list the ones I can:
-Donkey Kong Country
-Bad Dog
-Monster Farm
-Walter Melon (which probably had the most original premise for a cartoon: a fat bald man and his skinny sidekick are temp workers for pop culture & historical characters)
-as well as reruns of Heathcliff & The Catillac Cats and Mr. Bogus
I know these shows all existed and they all disappeared when ABC took it over, but they're so obscure that they don't even have pages on either TV.com OR IMDB! I know I've been lurking at the right site for about 2 years to know that at least 1 other person will remember these too!

This weekend is the night parade in Anoka (the place claiming to be the Halloween capitol). They have the downtown pitch black and the only lights come from decorations. Then next weekend is the day parade, which is much bigger. AND THEN I can crack open my Christmas decorations boxes! Yes, I'm one of those.

Ah, finally caught up on the Halloween posts. I just started reading them this week. Being a hurricane evacuee is awesome in some ways, such as Cal Poly giving you tons of stuff, but sucks in other ways, such as not having internet except in the crappy lab on campus. But anyway, great set of articles this year so far.
Carri: that Halloween underwear was the first seasonal thing I bought of the year, way back at the beginning of September. I got the ones with the glow in the dark eyes on the butt, it seemed somehow right.

Blueberry beer--sounds quite fascinating. But, I'm not a beer drinker. But, I'm willing to try things once, so I'd probably try it if someone enticed me to.
MOTU is great, but I think that cartoons of the 80s should be watched the way they were intended--in other words, the way we watched them. Bad sound, bad picture, original closing logo intact. The Best of DVDs kept the Filmations logo intact--what a treat!! My boyfriend just got M.A.S.K on VCD from Ebay. I think he said the commercials were intact and everything. YESSSS!!!!
Invader Norbert, my bf and I found Heathcliff on DVD at Suncoast. Glad to know that we spend out Saturday nights doing pretty much the same stuff you guys do--scoping out the TV section of video/DVD retailers. Of course, this is not EVERY Saturday night, but it was this past weekend...

Blueberry beer = very yes. Boston Beer Works (which I imagine Salem Beer Works is not too far removed from) makes a great blueberry beer as well, with blueberries in it. And the carbonation makes them float up and down like a lava lamp in a pint glass.
Also, I'm seeing that the people that weighed in on the Shipyard Pumpkin ale didn't like it. Pity. To me that stuff tastes like pumpkin pie in a bottle. Pumpkin pie in a bottle that gets you drunk. Now really, what's wrong with THAT? I look forward to that hitting the shelves here in Boston every year.

I only vaguely remember Monster Farm and Mr. Bogus. Didn't the latter have something to do with mirrors? And I remember all the others except Walter Melon.
As far as Angela Anaconda goes I used to despise that show when it first started. But for whatever reasons eventually it kinda grew on me. I think it was in part because she always referred to everyone by their full names.

Heck even my phone takes video clips. I mostly use it for capturing my dog's spazziest moments, but I like the idea that if anything newsworthy ever broke out than I'd be Johnny on the spot.
I still can't convince myself to drink and enjoy beer, but I think I'd be into the purple, bebaubled version. I thought Orbitz was the grossest invention ever, but berries are a whole different deal.

I once got some Orbitz because I'd seen someone drinking it on TV and was like "Well holy crap, it's a drink with...THINGS in it!" so I got it.
It was so disgusting. The little orbs were so slimy and gross, it felt like you were chugging fish eyes. I ended up throwing the rest of that crap away. I bet a homeless guy took it and drank it and magically became a millionaire.

I saw something really funny on my Saturday Night Live Best of Jon Lovitz DVD the other night. It was a sketch of 3 Jerry Seinfeld-esque comedians (guest host Tom Hanks, Jon Lovitz, and Dennis Miller). This, of course, was in 1988, and Jerry Seinfeld was really not all too well-known on television yet.
Lovitz and Miller get into a heated argument about half-and-half. Miller says "Why don't they just call it crilk?" Lovitz says "No way, they should call it meam." "Crilk!" "Meam!" And so on, and so forth, until they get in this fake fight--possibly some of Miller's better acting skills on display here. The audio commentary by Lovitz says that they used to do this often as a joke, and Miller always tried to throw Lovitz to the ground.
Classic.
So, gang, why do they call it "half and half"? Should they call it "crilk" or "meam"??????? I wanna know!!!! Sorry had to throw in a little Jerry Seinfeld there.

Anyone else see the faces in the wood patterns, it reminds me of EL&P's cover art for Brain Salad Surgery. nuts? hmmm? Orbitz Sucked. for me, Tequiza sucked too. One of my fave beer stores has 32 ouncers of Bud Ice, though, like, we don't get the cool icey-patterened glass on the upper part of the bottle, but it still rox, eh. on my list of shit to do, it includes, going pumpkin shopping, goto buddy's concert tonite. maybe get blastered later on, i want to be Shaggy from scooby doo this year. my wife wants to go trick or treating. i don't know waht to do, as i wanted to carve jack o lanterns and listen to spook music from x-e and maybe rip a halloween cd, and mix my techno over it.

Kinda reminds me of the Stand Up & Win sketch from the SNL ep Jerry Seinfeld hosted. It was a jeopardy-like game show hosted by Jerry and the 3 contestants were Seinfeld-esque comedians (played by Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, and Rob Schneider), and the questions were jokes and the comedians provided the punchline. And all 4 of them talked in an exaggerated Seinfeld voice.
ex:
for the Gilligan's Island category: "A 3 hour tour?! A 3 hour tour?!"
Dana Carvey's Response: "I know, and what's up with the Professor? He can make a radio out of a coconut, but he can't fix a hole in the damn boat!"
and it also coined the phrase "Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?" by Sandler

Hee. I still have a bottle of Orbitz sitting on my desk. It would make a great conversation piece, if anyone ever came into my room and could pick one artifact out of the overwhelming clutter. It's held up extremely well over the years. One or two of the little red globes have started to deform, and the liquid looks a bit more like glycerine than it used to, but all in all not bad. I'd drink it for a substantial but not outrageous amount of money.
Lookit me, I'm Crazy Keeps Failed Drink Gimmicks of the Early Nineties in my Workspace Man. Gimme some candy!

What are you talking about...SNL is (suprisingly) still on! Tonight's host is Catherine Zeta-Jones and musical guest is Franz Ferdinand.
But if you're talking about the days when Sandler, Hartman, Carvey, etc were on, I miss it too.

Cool, now I know what to do with my Unicron and camera! I need to get those Marvel figures with the Galactus pieces so I can do some pictures of the Eater of Worlds and the Monster Planet coming to blows over a game of checkers. Or playing my Coleco Donkey Kong tabletop game. Maybe get an extra head and try to do a custom job to make Amalgam's Galactaic.

It looks like those pirate ghosts finally got old Fred. I hope that Scooby and the other survivors will get to the bottom of this mystery in his memory.
Also, for a good pumpkin ale, try Post Road pumpkin ale from the Brooklyn Brewery. It's about the best I've yet had.

Hey Kidneyboy, never too late!! We were still celebrating on Saturday. The parents took me and my brother out to dinner w/my boyfriend and his girlfriend.
My boyfriend got me and my brother tickets to Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular (4 tix, so it's gonna be a double date), got my brother a Donald Trump bobble-head (my brother works at Trump Marina), got me Muppet show Season 1, a VHS of Scooby-Doo Original Mysteries (I famously like watching vintage cartoons on VHS), the soundtracks for the 40 Year Old Virgin and Charlie Brown Christmas, and xoxo earrings custom-made by my dad's jeweler friends (I have a gold-white gold xoxo bracelet he got me for our anniversary this year). They got one back that was damaged (probably by the owner--how rude), so the friends made a pair of dangly earrings from the bracelet. They are really cool!!!
I liked that Stand Up and Win sketch--I'm a HUGE SNL fan, and I prefer the 80s/early 90s seasons the best (86-92). Awesome stuff. The Carvey/Hartman era is the best!!!! Hardly a dull moment!

You said everything I wanted to say about Salem after my trip back on October 6th-10th. It's so touristy, that you feel bad you didn't learn more. I heard about seven versions of the same story at all the pseudo walks and tours and museums we took in. Best place to eat, hands down, is Red's Sandwich Shop right off the Pedestrian Mall. I still had a fuckin' wicked pissa good time though.
