Geez. I meant to enter, but every pic I drew came out 'wrong'. Anyway, everyone's entries look great!
Matt, a bit off topic (okay, a lot off topic), but it's been on my mind: Can we expect a Thanksgiving parade review this year? Yeah, I know, Halloween isn't even close to over, but just wondering.
Chestnuts roasted by Larry @ 09/18/2005 08:08 PM EST
Yes. Actually, I'd wager that that's about all you should expect during November.
Will probably do a review of the Garf Thanksgiving special too, though.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/18/2005 08:10 PM EST
I am glad now that I did not enter since I would now be crying with shame at the lack of personal talent. Bastards.

Ah cool the parade reviews are some of my absolute favs. Baggies on the feet!!!

Maybe i'm going out on a limb here but i think perhaps an MS paint exclusive halloween art exhibition is in order.

Holy cow! Thats awesomly amazingly cool. My Killer Klown picture is actually online. Hooray, for me and everyone else. Great contest; great site. You rock Matt.

hey matt- just checking in to see if you got my e-mail re: submitting a song or two for the jukebox. lemme know the scoop.

Great work, you guys! Why can't I be this creative, damn it? I think I'm going to have some new wallpapers, if you guys don't mind.
Chestnuts roasted by Kay @ 09/18/2005 08:55 PM EST
Wow - just like I predicted: I would regret not making a drawing once I saw the submissions, but would realize that I'm not half as clever or artistically talented as most of the entries. Bravo to the ambitious ones! I liked them all but particularly got a chuckle out of:
1) "New Yorker" parody
2) "Hang In There" poster
3) Tremor resisting impulse-buy items
4) Seinfeld parody
Chestnuts roasted by Gozer @ 09/18/2005 09:12 PM EST
Great job everybody. The art is a total treat. Personal favorites are the TREMOR RESISTING THE IMPULSE BUYING ITEMS and the FRUITY YUMMY MUMMY FINALLY SNAPS.
Thanks for the F13 Part III song.

I can see why Meghan won. Her art work has an other worldlyness to it. It's something tangible but unreal. It shows the twisted world we live in and how the human soul continues on. But mostly it's a moo cow.
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 09/18/2005 09:16 PM EST
Holy geez...great effort, everybody. Meghan's entry was definitely deserving of the gold medal. But Christ...if I'd known I could simply scrawl on a post-it and still see my picture on X-E, I woulda entered.
Chestnuts roasted by The Yeti @ 09/18/2005 09:19 PM EST
I am loving the new X-E Halloween jukebox. Great selections!

I thought 5 cents for kissing a corpse was fair, but sorry, I guess I am a bitch.
PS thanks for the hint on TF's I did find the double packs and my son is giddy.
Chestnuts roasted by kb @ 09/18/2005 09:35 PM EST
Them's some good artin', people.
I'm somewhere between being relieved (that I didn't set my drawing skills up for comparison against some of these) and being a bit sorry (my "how many gremlins does it take to screw in a BrightLightBulb" was, in fact, done on a post-it, and it did make me giggle).
Chestnuts roasted by gadgetsgirl @ 09/18/2005 09:42 PM EST
FYI to anyone curious: If you sent in an entry and it's not up there, it's because I didn't get it. :/
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/18/2005 09:45 PM EST
The winner reminds of of a better time of life, when I could be bothered to get out all the glitter and stuff and really enjoy a spooky October evening creating God knows what.

holllllly shiiiiiiit matt that is a friggin funky ass friday the 13th part 3 theme! i'd of made a picture of jason on a disco floor!
Chestnuts roasted by Willem @ 09/18/2005 09:50 PM EST
Wow, there's some good art entries. Your grade school art teachers should all be totally jealous... odds are they've never had any of their monster drawings on an awesome website!
Chestnuts roasted by Carri @ 09/18/2005 10:18 PM EST
Those were awesome. I wish I could draw with a skill level past diseased-looking stick figures. My favorite was definitely the one with Tremor at the grocery store.
But Damn it. I want it to be Halloween NOW! :-/
Chestnuts roasted by Diana @ 09/18/2005 10:43 PM EST
We got some artistically talented people here at the X. Although I would use Jason instead of Pinhead entering Friday's in Lou's pic.
If I had even an iota of talent, I would have drawn the Wolfman getting waxed just like in the "40 Year Old Virgin" Or the Black Lagoon Creature entering a Long John Silvers or Red Lobster
PS: Everyone has my permission to use those suggestions during the next art contest.
Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 09/18/2005 10:53 PM EST
My sister and I were in deep discussion does anyone else remember the Halloween costumes that came with a plastic dress and a crappy plastic mask featuring Barbie or He-Man or Swamp thing?
They don't make costumes like those anymore.
Chestnuts roasted by Corn @ 09/18/2005 10:58 PM EST
Those costumes were the BEST! Of course, when you're eight, you never question why Spider-Man would possibly have a picture of himself on his own chest. Ignorance is truly bliss.
Chestnuts roasted by The Yeti @ 09/18/2005 11:13 PM EST
Loved the "Tremor Resisting Impulse Buy Items"!!!

I couldn't have entered this, as I don't have a scanner, but there was some might interesting artwork here. I thought the witch doing calculations was cute. ; 0 )
Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 09/18/2005 11:54 PM EST
dang. i thought i would've at least made the first page... well, maybe if i had some kind of talent (artistic or comedic)
Chestnuts roasted by Big Jerm @ 09/19/2005 12:32 AM EST
I could lie and tell you that I didn't pee my pants because of how awesome all that art was, but let's no labor under a storm cloud of illusions and lies.
I totally peed my pants.
Chestnuts roasted by Monkey King @ 09/19/2005 12:34 AM EST
I remember hearing about those plastic halloween costumes being extremely dangerous because they had flamable paint on them or something. But I do remember walking into Toys 'R' Us during halloween time and all their crappy plastic costumes were on a huge wall right as soon you walked in along with other halloween items. I remember picking Freddy one year and being really pissed at my mom because she wouldn't buy me the glove. I mean if i was gonna save her money by wearing the crappy plastic costume she could've at least bought me the sweet glove. Oh well....I think my personal fave costume was a couple of times i went as the devil which consisted of a red hoodie, red sweat pants, black horns sewed to the hood, and evil eyebrows and goatee painted on my face with a plastic pitchfork. I should dig up the picture of me in that costume wearing turquoise Chuck Taylor rip-offs and post it somewhere......
Chestnuts roasted by phunqsauce @ 09/19/2005 01:00 AM EST
Hey
Thanks for putting my entry in. I can actually draw very well, but I dont own a Scanner, and a trip to the local print store would be...well, I dont want to make that trip. So instead of making something crappy in paint (although that clown one was great), I photoshoped something.
All-in-all, good contest.
Chestnuts roasted by Crocodile Feeling @ 09/19/2005 01:03 AM EST
You know, I was going to submit a picture of Ash from Evil Dead trimming some hedges with his chainsaw hand, but it seemed a bit obvious and I assumed that at least 27 other people would submit the same thing. I also don't have a scanner.
Of course, after seeing that no one did submit my idea, I feel a bit foolish. Of course, I still don't have a scanner, and I don't feel like explaining to the chick who lives next door why I need to scan in a crude line drawing of a guy with a chainsaw for a hand. So instead I bring you this:
I know it's too late to be considered for the contest, and too computer-generated to have a hope of winning, but I figure that at least a few people may enjoy Freddy's near (re?)death experiance.

If I had tried to create Meghan's entry I would still have yarn stuck to my fingers and glitter up my nose. As it is I still have crayon in my teeth. Great job Meghan!

I'm printing and hanging up Jason Vorhees at the bank and the witch balancing her taxes. Not just for the Halloween season, either, they're perma decor! "Hang in there" is priceless.

These entries are fantastic! One thing though--I think on the entry "The Sack Race" on Page 2, that's not Beetlejuice but Jack from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" that is winning the race.
Chestnuts roasted by Rosella @ 09/19/2005 11:02 AM EST
Oh yeah, that made my Monday.
Congratulations, Meghan. Losing is not so hard to take when it's to someone who so clearly deserved it more. Oh, and I'm really thankful that Matt understood what was going on in my picture. I thought it was pretty clear, but my husband was like, "Is that makeup? Are they putting on makeup? Is it like Mary Kay or...I don't get it." I was pretty scared after that. And I too loved the "Hang In There" poster, but I laughed out loud at "Serenity Now!" I also have to give props for using my favorite game, Sims 2, to make an art contest entry. What a great idea!

Anyone know where I can get some Wacky Wafers candy? We are doing a retro Christmas this year so we quizzed everyone on their favorite games, candy, and cereal. I've checked some of the candy websites, but can't find anything.
Chestnuts roasted by Joe in OH @ 09/19/2005 11:42 AM EST
Matt, I've just got to say.. your site has made the Halloween season funner than ever before.. not only do we get candy, bad costumes, and TV specials.. but we get mucho X-E, as well! Thanks again.

Wow, great stuff! Since Labor Day, the Gallery wet to Winter hours and we get Sundays off, so I am even more late on catching up on the SNT's. Good to know kb's kid was happy. Sam's Club also has TransFormer bargin packs occasionaly. The Family Dollar in my town has the smaller carded figures under the Universe banner. I'm going to get Arcee to send to eminentfreak to add to her Evil Pony site. She says "Hi!" by the way.
Matt, can I snail-mail my drawing to you? It's not much, but it's good for a chuckle or two. At least you can see the Frankenstein Monster mow a lawn at night.

I couldn't find my crayons!
Chestnuts roasted by Fox @ 09/19/2005 01:25 PM EST
I just wasn't hit by inspiration in time for this one and decided to just let it pass me by rather than sending some lackluster MS Paint crud. Everybody's work was great, especially fishy feeding Freddy and "Serenity now!".
OT, but everybody remember to catch the season premiere of Arrested Development tonight! And tell your friends! I didn't even know until last night that it was time for the new season, so they obviously need all the help they can get.
Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 09/19/2005 02:13 PM EST
Corn- I so remember those old plastic mask/plastic smock costumes. I still have a picture of when I was Snoopy, my brother was in a homemade costume, made to look like one of the California Raisins.
On another topic, Congrats go out to all the entries that went on the site. I was gonna enter something...but my art skills suck ass! That is the reason I stick to writing (you can read my stories by clicking on my name...there's a story about Zombies and one about Vampires if anyone's interested)
Also, I made up a burned CD of my favourite songs from the XE jukebox, and called it "Selections from the X-Entertainment Halloween Jukebox"
Milhouse:Look Lisa, I'm Radioactive Man
Lisa: I don't think the real Radioactive Man would wear a plastic smock with his picture on it.
Milhouse: He would if it was Halloween

Ah, the Ben Cooper and/or Collegeville costumes. Back when we weren't spoiled. Even now, the smell of cheap vinyl takes me back to those Hallowe'ens of long ago. When even board games with a spooky theme were advertised on TV across the land. Any one remember the "Casper, the Friendly Ghost" game with the light-up Casper?
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 09/19/2005 03:04 PM EST
Funny thing about those old costumes and me is that I go to school in Collegeville. Just last year, a friend of mine went dumpster diving and pulled out some gems -- a gross or so of Spawn latex masks, riddler hat/body suit, and a sick Hamburgler hard mask/suit combo were among the best. Man, good times.
Oh, also, the entries gave me a real grin. I'm in London for the semester, where they apparently don't do Halloween (according to the orientation team). Nice to see some of the spirit at X-E.
Chestnuts roasted by Trev @ 09/19/2005 03:14 PM EST
One of my cable channels has been running the old AlphaBits Commercial - where Frankenstein chases kids through a haunted house and an old Monsters Cereal commercial. Weird.

It's not a tremor actually, its a grab-oid. But aside from that tiny fact it was awesome! My oh my how I laughed.
Chestnuts roasted by Chris @ 09/19/2005 04:03 PM EST
I'm now full-force into the Halloween spirit, as I was listening to the jukebox and up comes the theme to "Tales From the Darkside." That show's intro sequence absolutely terrified me when I was little, to the point where I had to change the channel whenever it came on just because I couldn't take it.
Thank heavens Rappin' Freddy is around to take the edge off.

Congrats Meghan!!!!
I'm glad mine made the 2nd page!! Mine was "It's the Great Editor, Charlie Brown!" Thing is, my artistic ability is lacking, so I used my rubber Snoopy stamp, because I got my inspiration from seeing him typing on his little typewriter. The Great Pumpkin is all mine though.
Everyone did a great job. If Jason was behind me in the bank, I would be scared. REAL scared. Congrats to everyone!!!
BTW, this is completely off subject. I went to Game Stop today to trade in my Super Nintendo Entertainment System and games, and it turns out they were too old to be traded in. I would Ebay them, but I saw how many were on there. Mine doesn't stand a chance on there.
Story is, I have a Super Nintendo Entertainment System that I purchased at Toys R Us in late 1995. It is in EXCELLENT condition, and includes the system, RF adaptor, controller, wall adaptor, and "Donkey Kong Country" game. I even have the box.
BUT, I also have 7 other games. They are "Donkey Kong 2: Diddy's Kong's Quest," "Jeopardy Deluxe Edition," "Wheel of Fortune Deluxe Edition," "Donkey Kong 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble," "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3," (w/code book), "Toy Story," and "Super Mario All Stars." I have manuals for all the games except Mario All-Stars, which I "borrowed" from my ex-boyfriend, and never returned when we broke up. And why would I have given it back? It's a great game! I also have an extra controller. I am looking for a good offer, and if you can pay the shipping cost, it's yours. I have pictures and can answer any questions you have. Roll your cursor over my name for my email address.
Sorry Matt, but this is good exposure, and I know someone would like it!!

"Creature From The Black Lagoon post-masturbation remorse" was great. I laugh so hard I cried. Then I thought to myself, "what the hell IS post-masturbation remorse?!". Maybe the Creature was brought up very conservative Christian or Amish or something to that effect...

Hey Matt, I've got a few suggestions for the Halloween Jukebox...
1. Motorhead- "Hellraiser" From Hellraiser III & "March or Die" CD
2.Weird Al- "Nature Trail To Hell In 3-D" fron "IN 3-d" CD
3.Ozzy Osbourne "Bloodbath in Paridise" (Come to think of it, most of Ozzys older stuff would work...)
Chestnuts roasted by D-Roc @ 09/19/2005 06:22 PM EST
*stares up above at last two posters* Ewwww......
As you've probably guessed by now, Freddy has two gloves in my entry because I have never seen a Nightmare film--or pretty much any horror movie. But a Freddy Coppertone ad was the most unlikely thing I could possibly think of, and it had to be entered.

yes, oranges can indeed prevent/cure scurvy. More specifically vitamin C, and even more specifically ascorbic acid. But don't ingest too much vitamin C or your skin will start to peel. Vitamin C will also cause a miscarraige if taken enough early in pregnancy.

Its on their "Bloody Kisses" album.....might be a little long, but I think there is a shorter radio edit out there someplace....
Anyways, keep up the great work!!

If it weren't for the fact that I was lazy and unmotivated last week, my entry would've consisted of Torgo and his master from the MST3K classic "Manos: the hands of fate" playing mini golf. But I guess it's only funny if you've actually seen the movie.

Manos: The Hands of Fate CAN'T be the worst movie ever only because things actually happen in it. It's a terrible movie, but it's not forgetting which characters it killed off or having the camera crew slip into the shot during every other scene.
There are worse movies out there....but they're boring.
Hell, has anyone else seen Reeve in Superman vs. The Mole People?
