09/17/2005 Entry: "S. N. T.!"

And so, another Saturday night, another Saturday Night Thread. I'd say we had a pretty good Halloweeny week -- Countdown's rolling along nicely, I'm working on next week's entries, and I haven't even gotten sick of the season yet. Wheeee. Converse. Love.

On the bad horror movie front Tales From The Darkside The Movie comes on here in an hour. I thought of X-E when I saw that.

What station? If anyone hasn't seen that flick, it's totally worth the time. Especially if you're home alone, bored, depressed and lonely. Because these feelings will VANISH the second you see a cat jump down Uncle Louis's throat.

It's pretty sad. I was convinced today was Sunday until I read this.

Well, I just spent the last two hours cleaning the inside of my car and washing it. I know it's not a big conversation starter, but I thought I'd share that information with ya'll. Yeah, it took 2 hours - there was stuff caked and gelled in there that I've never understood how it gets in a car...but it's all gone now.

I like Halloween.

Thank you.

I'm so sick right now. I got out some holloween decorations already and I ordered a demonic bat off the internet. I really need a more fullfiling life. Storm Trooper Salute! Oh god, my head.

It's on UPN 41 here in OK. =] I've seen it before, the cat thing freaked me the hell out.

I just got home from the store with a bag of halloween candy. I think they're a new candybar or at least I've never seen them before. Nestles' Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough topped with Carmel, shaped into bars and coated with chocolate. It was good but not half as good as I imagined.

Chestnuts roasted by Carri @ 09/17/2005 07:33 PM EST

UPN 41? Damn! I was praying it might be on a channel I actually get. So much for my dream of seeing the movie tonight. All is lost.

I picked up a bunch of Halloween candy for a Countdown entry next week. Lots of good, new stuff out there. Particularly fond of the tiny, oh so cute bags of Haribo gummy bears.

TGIS!! I went to a chinese buffet the other day and I distintivly heard christmas music playing over their muzak station.

Never seen TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE or TWILIGHT ZONE THE MOVIE (in its entirety). I had chances to rent TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE but it never materialized.
I decorated for Halloween yesterday which some thought was a little early but we all know better.
Speaking of being too early, the HE-MAN and SHE-RA CHRISTMAS SPECIAL is coming to DVD. Click the name to read more.

Holy... how did I end up at the year 'round Christmas radio website, listening to Christmas music? That did not just happen.

Who said Christmas up there? That word is forbidden for now.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt(#2?) @ 09/17/2005 07:44 PM EST

I have never been such a big fan of Fall, but Matt brought me back to a better time when I could have cared less about women beginning to bundle up(the skirts are disappearing for another year, fellas), and having to rake leaves in the cold. The all-consuming thought in my skull was the pursuit of candy, and Halloween fit the bill quite nicely. Now, I remember that. Thanks, Matt.

Chestnuts roasted by Judd Gregory @ 09/17/2005 07:44 PM EST

At the store I also found last year's Kellogg's Monster Fruit Snacks on the clearance rack. They must be cool because they made the 2004 countdown, right? I'm thinking of going back, buying out their stock and passing them out to trick or treaters.

Chestnuts roasted by Carri @ 09/17/2005 07:48 PM EST

Can anyone help me?
I am going to buy my son something transformerish for his birthday next week (he's been watching too much tv and sees commercials for the cartoon all the time) Anyway, what is a good thing to get, action figure wise when you are starting a collection?

Chestnuts roasted by kb @ 09/17/2005 07:54 PM EST

This will likely be an unpopular answer to Transfans as I've fallen off the wagon and lost track of the franchise, but I have noticed lots of "value pack" sets at Toys R Us at really great prices. By "value pack," I mean they take two or three toys and tape the packages together, selling 'em all for half the original price or less.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/17/2005 07:56 PM EST

The grocery store I work at is closing in ten days, and the only Halloween stuff I've seen are spooky-decorated boxes of Tastykate donuts. I've seen some Halloween stuff at other stores, but I've been so busy, I haven't had a chance to really look at anything. Hopefully, once my job situation settles down, the conventions end, and I figure out what I'm doing this fall, I'll be able to more throughly enjoy this season.

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 09/17/2005 08:00 PM EST

Oooh, perfect, double on the toys! He's all about action figures these days and I really dislike most of them. But those, and Voltron? (The cheetah ones) were the only ones I would play at my male friends house as a kid.

Chestnuts roasted by kb @ 09/17/2005 08:18 PM EST

You know, it's this time of year when my hatred of Texas really reaches the seething point. I love autumn and winter, and they really don't have either down here. I'll be glad when I get my degree and can find a job in more hospitable climes.
In other news, I've been watching one of the new James Bond movies on Spike TV. All I have to say is that the people who are still churning these things out should be ashamed of themselves. Thoroughly ashamed.
Well, I'm going to go crank up the A/C and make some Irish coffee so I can pretend it's not 96 degrees outside.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 09/17/2005 08:19 PM EST

Matt, kb, I too think its a good idea to start on the value packs to start a collection. Toys R Us really is a good place to get them because, well, they're the only place to get them. Me, I'm waiting for the Vector Prime/Starscream 2-pack to show up. These value sets are usually distributed near the end of one set and/or the beginning of the next one.

Also, how old is kb Jr? If he/she/it is really young, I suggest getting some of the easier to transform ones first. But, word to the wise, just because they're small, doesn't mean they're easy to transform. A good example is Clocker from the new Cybertron line. Even though he's small and cool-looking, he's a bitch to transform and you would probably need to see the instructions the first few times you transform him, probably more if the kid is young. Also to watch out for are the accessories, like the Cyber Planet Keys, the guns, the minicons, etc., which are easy to lose (knows from experience) and someone could choke to death on them (fortunately, doesn't have experience with that).

Also, I don't recommend giving the kid the classic original G1 ones, even though they're tough and cool looking, and made of diecast, after years of experience with them, I can see why Hasbro went with the "hard plastic" route. I learned that the hard way with old versions of Jazz, Bumblebee & Cliffhanger.

I hope this helps our a lot, kb which is kinda ironic, since I work in a KB Toys store (West Babylon, NY).

Also, continuing from last thread, I'm still not having luck finding Frankenberry & Boo Berry. Even though I've had some tips from fellow readers (thanks!!!), I feel like i'm looking too early.

Resident Evil Apocolypse is on HBO right now. Not a bad movie.

Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 09/17/2005 08:41 PM EST

You're sending mixed messages, Flutter-Bee. One the one hand, you say that you want to avoid scaring people. Well, one of the best ways I know to avoid scaring people is to not be a clown.
That said, the only suggestions I can offer are to take a minimalist approach with your make-up and avoid any and all references to "floating." Oh, and if you squirt someone with a flower in your collar, you and only you are responsible for what happens to you next.
Also, do you juggle? Or make balloon animals? Ooh! Or juggle balloon animals?

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 09/17/2005 08:43 PM EST

First time threader, long time reader. I guess it just took me feeling like shit to be able to partake in the Saturday night thread. Any good suggestions for movies that are on TV tonight? As for Flutter-Bee, I would suggest being playful instead of spazzy. Kids are scared by things that are intimidating. ;-)

P.S. Matt, just wanted to show you some love. I've been an X-Er(X-Eer?) for years now. I hope to post more often. Love the countdown!

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/17/2005 08:46 PM EST

I can't juggle and can't make balloon animals. I tell stories, groaner type jokes and puns, play goofy games, and do a bit of comedy magic and some mental magic too.

I have been clowning for almost 9 years and have only ever scared 2 kids. But several of the parents are scared, why?
Why would an adult be afraid of clowns?

I submit that most kids have never seen or read "It," while it's hard to find a grown-up who hasn't. Just a theory.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 09/17/2005 08:53 PM EST

Flutter-Bee,
I was always scared of some clowns, but I think it was Steven King's It that did it for me.

Chestnuts roasted by kb @ 09/17/2005 08:53 PM EST

Flutter, I'll give you two good reasons. John Wayne Gacey (aka Pennywise the clown serial killer that most adults remember happening in their time.) Also, the Stephen King book/movie "It". Oh yeah, and third, no offense but I think a lot of clowns used to be child predators before the age of the Internet. Yikes, maybe I'M scared of clowns...

Chestnuts roasted by The Coz @ 09/17/2005 08:54 PM EST

I once spent a Halloween dressed as a clown and jumping off my Grandparent's roof to scare trick or treaters when they came to the door.

One kids Mom yelled at me. Another told their kid I was a robot. I have no idea what was up with that, but I took it as a compliment.

Don't understand the hate for clowns. I always loved them as a child. Except for one that was mean to me for being an overexicted little kid and following him around everywhere. Maybe I deserved it. When I was working at Burger King, they wanted me to be a clown for birthday parties for kids. Didn't materialize, but I was up for the gig.

Ah, yes..."Prince of Darkness". One of Carpenter's most...um, actually I've never seen it. But I'll tell ya, one of my all-time favorite vampire flicks is "John Carpenter's Vampires". I've seen that flick countless times and I'll happily watch it countless more. James Woods owns.

Overall, I would have to say that clowns are pretty useless. However, in their defense, I think a lot (not all) of the people who say that they are afraid of clowns are bandwagoners. I think the idea of a person disguising themselves as something pleasant as a front for evil ends is scary (a la John Wayne Gacy or even Jimmy Stewart in THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH). But I think the newer clown bashing comes from IT, KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, and INSANE CLOWN POSSE, etc.

Matt, forgive me for asking but when will the new songs be added to the jukebox?? smile

Oh, and I have a box each of Frankenberry and BooBerry sitting on top of my fridge as we speak. It's sacralige, I know, but honestly the taste doesn't match the nostalgia. They've been sitting there for about a week. I've had a bowl of Boo, Franken is mint.

I reccommend Prince of Darkness. You can't go wrong with movie descriptions that include the phrase "canister of liquid Satan" I haven't seen the movie but in my mind the liquid Satan is green and the plot plays on the set of You Can't Do That on Television:

Priest pointing to canister: "What is this?"

Professor: "I don't know."

(Professor is instantly slimed with green liquid Satan)

Priest: "Oh, what a mess. Let me help by rinsing you off with Holy Water."

(Priest is drenched by a bucket of water)

Here are a few of the Oscar worthy quotes so far...

Dracula: "You wish to please me?"
Coolio: "Yessssssss!"

Coolio: "Aint none of yall bitches gettin' outta here alive!"

Coolio: "Did I ever tell you that I dream about your snow white assssss?"

I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready for Jason X at this point.

Captain Van Helsing...the Carpathian Galaxy...when will South African film studios learn not to produce movies based on drunken dares? Matt, if you run low on Halloween material this year, review this film. The world needs to know.

Sometimes I wonder if movies that are set in space will ever invert the concept of franchises that AREN'T in space moving to space (e.g. Leprechaun in Space. Hellraiser in Space. Jason in Space.)

So like, JAWS in space. Space Shark. They can bring Roy Scheider back as Chief Brody's great X10 Grandson. He's an astronaut, see. And a descendant of the original JAWS builds a space craft and tracks him down on the dark side of the moon. And then at the climax Brody is all like "WHY CAN'T THIS END!?!?!" and Space JAWS shoots him in the head with a sniper rifle.

I'd watch it.

Of course, I also want a special edition of Star Wars in which all the Stormtroopers are digitally replaces with naked midgets in top hats.

Ahh, Halloween. I look forward to the Halloween and Xmas countdowns on X-E each year. It's become a sort of tradition... like my writing Rockman.EXE Walkthroughs for Gamefaqs. *shudder*

The Bigass Halloween Candy Bags are out here and have been for two weeks. I cannot find "Dem Bones" and they are my favorite Halloween candy ever. Little sweettart-y bones, man! Perfect for munching on in the dead of night when some awful edited-for-TV movie comes on.

The best part of the season is that my birthday is on October 2nd. Start the month with presents, end it with the best holiday ever.

After somewhere between 5 and 5.5 hours I have actually finished my presentation. Thank God.

Anyone know about USB disk things? It won't let me detach it.

Hey!! Is anyone else up late or getting their first cup of coffee with X-E, then check out this site I stumbled acrossed it (I swear I wasn't looking for halloween stuff!! eh, you don't know me) this site is great they have some unbelieveable masks, clever ideas for costumes or UNFUNNY (holy sh.t?) and props and stuff. My fave? The elm street sign and the Jason sign!! Very detailed. The scary clowns are fucked up too!! Anyway enjoy 'yawn' Goob's pooped sad

Whem aren't scary clowns fucked up?

I missed all the action again last night. *sigh* Well, I WAS talking to someone from Lithuania...

Anyhow, our TRU store barely has any of our Halloween stuff out yet, as the woman who's going to do it, never seems to get around to doing it. : All we have is a row of stupid 99.9% non-scary costumes. Oh yeah, and a big bag of tiny canisters of playdoh ... apparently deemed worthy of throwing in a trick or treater's bag. How would you feel, getting a piece of playdoh the size of say, 7 Necco Wafers stacked up? Not sure here... but they are cute. The funny part - they have a (wrong, obviously) price tag of 99.99 under them - and no I didn't change it.

Watching Witches of Eastwick on HBO Comedy. I think it fits the seasonal criteria, though it's really a battle-of-the-sexes comedy mascarading as a devil movie. I'd love to see Jack Nicholson play God sometime.

This is the awsome domonic bat that I was talking about last night. I'm so proud. He's gonna be my new saturday night thing. Any one else order any decorations off the net? If so what did you order. Or isn't anyone else posting anymore? Zuckuss zoology! God I need help.

Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 09/18/2005 12:16 PM EST

I love bats - that thing is... freaky, to say the least. Cool stuff they got there! smile I looove the crow!

Oh yeah, I'm probably behind the times here, but I just found out the other day they are coming out with "Spud Trooper" to go along with Darth Tater. smile Thought I'd mention it, incase word hasn't got out yet.

Neo:

THE COLORS, DUKE, THE COLORS!

I'm color blind, kid.

lol, my brother and I randomly say that in conversation with each other when the topic of colors comes up. I can't believe there is another person in the world that does that too!! lol.

Chestnuts roasted by Color Wonder @ 09/18/2005 02:17 PM EST

He'll be four. They're selling the originals again? Why do you prefer plastic?

Cause hard plastic is more sturdy and wont break as easily as diecast.

And Toys R Us was selling remakes of certain G1 figures for some time.

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 09/18/2005 02:39 PM EST

KB: they make little kid transformers also. playskool made them, not sure if they still do. i bought almost all of them for my exs kid and they were pretty cool...he was 4 and loved them

I remember breaking my brother's Jazz figure back in the day because i was 4 and trying to transform something that was almost as hard as solving Rubik's cube. I remember seeing the one section of Creepshow (this was YEARS after the movie came out) where Leslie Nielsen buries Ted Danson and that other chick in the sand watches every moment from his home because he had camera set up to see them drown once the tide got high enough. It just disturbed me to see someone who i had only seen in spoof comedies play a crazed killer. I still get chills picturing the crazed expression on his face...click my name to see crazy Leslie Nielsen.
