By the way what goes in Nick’s east coast division as opposed to their LA/Orlando branch? I ask because the people at the Nick booth where from LA and not from the other divisions and I’m curious as what goes in at each branch.

I had plans to hit King's Island in Cincinnati today, but my friends (the ones with whom I was making the trip) decided to scrap the plans earlier today at the last possible moment. So, unable to drum up any additional activities for the evening, I find myself at home...alone... and listening to the neighbors' cats fight each other outside my bedroom window. So long story short: I hate my friends.

The san-diego comicon was two weeks ago. Next weekend is the Chicago comicon which I'm going to, I'm super excited to meet jim lee and frank miller. I just finished Hush today, and am enjoying All Star Bats. It should be a crime for jim to draw Vicki Vale that well.

Thought I'd stay in tonight, seeing as I've gone out 4 of the last 5 nights.
I get my first paycheck of my first "real" (i.e. post-college) job on Monday, so I'm poking around Amazon.com and such to see if there's anything I want to blow it on. My job pays monthly instead of bi-weekly, so I'll basically be going from a poor college student to a well-to-do hundredare overnight. Roast my toast!

Chaz: To clarify I was referring to Comic-con 2006 and beyond.

Anyone else who was there find the Lucasfilm pavilion not as impressive as it was last year? Given the milestone the company was reaching with the final star wars movie you think they would have splurged on something a little more decadent like they did last year. If not more so as the event warranted.

That's ironic - I finally got my current job like a month after I graduated, but I don't have an apartment yet after my lease ends on August 14th. My soon-to-be roommates and I are just procrastinating on finding a place.
I work at a healthcare software company ("Epic Systems" here in Madison, WI. I'm basically using like 10% of what I learned in college with my non-software-related nuclear engineering major, but it's a sweet job anyway. It was originally sort of a back-up job opportunity, but I was getting nervous that'd I'd end up in a similar situation to yours so I took the job and it's been great so far.

My gut tells me that vodka might not go well with Mountain Dew, but I recently had a Mountain Dew Float, and it wasn't too bad. So it's versitile. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, vodka and Code Red Mountain Dew sounds pretty good for some reason (but I've never tried it). Sorta like Red Bull and vodka maybe?

tonight I watched the movie Punchline, an eighties movie with tom hanks and sally field about stand up comedy. It got pretty powerful at the end, shows the duality in the life of a comic. Very Enjoyable.

I recently dumped a packet of Invisible Raspberry into a glass of milk. Bad move. It was like drinking a sour warhead. I guess this is obvious Kieran, but I've done that with The Matrix Trilogy, exactly once. I mean it was made tolerable by the fact that Revolutions is my fav (of the trilogy and movie period). And ending on a high point never hurts. But I agree, my head hurt and less enjoyment was garnered than you would think given philosophies like 'things are greater than the sum of their parts'.

My friend came over yesterday and spent the night. We played Star Wars: Battlefront far longer than I would care to admit (that is one helluva fun game, can't wait for the sequel).

Went and bought some old-as-hell used games that are new to me today: Fable (fucking excellent), Wild ARMs 3 (really nice old school RPG action) and The Thing (has not aged well, but I'm a huge survival/horror fan and I love the movie so I think I'll get into it as I play... and anyway I got it free).

So no, I'm not out there getting smashed and fucking women I don't know, but life is pretty good.

Kieran: Wow... were those the extended versions (still haven't seen any of those) or the theatrical releases? That's quite a while to sit in front of your television, regardless... and you have very good taste.

FYI: as a fan of the LotR movies, you should probably stay away from the IMDb forums.

Actually, everybody should stay away from the IMDb forums. I don't know why I keep going there.

Knegative: haven't watched the Matrix Trilogy all the way through, but about a month ago I decided I needed to see several movies I had for whatever reason never seen...beginning early in the moring (I'm talking 2:00 AM) after a night of no sleep. I watched Collateral once, then again with commentary, then I watched Mystic River (which had no commentary so I couldn't watch that), THEN watched Way of the Samurai (yes, a double dose of Cruise), watched it again with commentary and played around with the special features. I passed out after that.

The moral of the story? Twofold:
1) Don't do what I did
2) I have too much free time on my hands

way late. . . . CATCF was awesome. I am not a huge fan of johnny depps, but he was SO good. I really thought at first that redoing such a classic was a pointless waste of a movie, but I think it was better than the original. I took my nearly 4-year old and he loved it too. Although we laughed at completely different jokes. The kids were all amazing too, Mike Teevee was my favorite. His and johnny depps interactions were hilarious.

wooo WA 3 and The Thing are high on my list of favorite PS2 titles I've had the former for a couple years and still haven't actually finished the damn game tho. Mostly due to the fact that when your character croak their max HP is shaved and capped till you sleep at an Inn and I'm currently right before a major boss fight that no matter how hard I try I can't survive >_<. I did beat The Thing but I haven't played it at all since because by the time I did finish it I realized several of the game play mechanics were far more shallow than they want you to believe I won't get too detailed but I'm sure you'll notice sooner or later.

Oh yea since you're survival horror fan have you played either of the Fatal Frame games? If not I HIGHLY reccomend them especially the second one as its one of the few games that startled me bad enough to cause me to fling the controller across the room but then again playing on a 61 inch TV with a dolby 5.1 surround sound set up probably helped make it happen

I ended up going out last night to see my friend's band. They opened up for a band called Metallagher. You are probably correct in your thinking, a Metallica cover band (earlier years, most recent song covered was One), with a Gallagher look-alike as lead singer. It was pretty amazing, with the other band members dressing up like Cliff, Dave, Lars, etc. It was full of fruit smashing, water gun shooting, crowd participating madness.
I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I was designated driver (i.e. sober). Click my name to find the band's My Space page and you'll get a good idea. Just had to share the weirdness, and if you are ever in the Mpls area, you need to check this out, you won't regret it.

Speaking of movies, I watched the Director's Cut of Donnie Darko (my current favorite movie) last night with commentary. It was pretty good commentary, especially since Kevin Smith was the other commentator (other than the writer/director) even though he had nothing to do with the movie. Mike the Great - I will always hold the Spiderman Crayon Review close to my heart, too. It's the first article I read here on X-E. I can't say how happy I was that there were 3 parts.

When I think of that, the Worst Gameroom of All Time article comes to mind, too. I laughed FOREVER over the one line - "Feeling Winded? Have an imaginary seat!" or something like that. I get slap happy and certain things will make me laugh for hours. That was definitely one of 'em.

It's Sunday, I'm at work, and the Native American Expo starts tomorrow. It kicks off with a parade through town, and the Gallery is on the route. Which means I get to watch it, then as soon as the politicians go by (they're at the end), I run back inside and enjoy the AC. This year, they've placed porta-potties along the route, including in our parking lot. I wonder if they'll leave 'em out all week? Ah, Summer, it turns me upside down. I have to say I walked out of Charlie totally disappointed, and I went in excited but without out of control expectations or anything. It was nice visually, and they were certainly more faithful to the book than Willy Wonka was. Depp is always amazing, the kids were cute and the factory looked pretty awesome so it's hard to put my finger on why I didn't enjoy it. I feel like I should see it again since most people I talk to really liked it but I don't see any reason not to wait for the DVD. And I still can't believe I'm saying that because I love Tim Burton and J. Depp...Corpse Bride looks cool, though. Oh, I remember one thing that bugged me about CATCF: the Oompah Loomps were fun and done well, and I thought it was great that they were using the original lyrics but the actual arrangement and vocals of the songs were just so discordant and cacophonous that they were almost unintelligible. Why, Danny Elfman? Why?
I did think Wedding Crashers was pretty funny.

I went to go see CatCF last weekend, and I have to say, I totally enjoyed it. I appreciated that it followed the book better than the original, with the exception of something I'd rather not mention for fear of spoiling it for anyone else. Otherwise though, I found it to be quite entertaining, and Johnny Depp was darling as Willy Wonka.

Side note: The kid sitting next to me was so excited when he saw Christopher Lee, that he leaned over and hissed excitedly: "It's Count Dooku!". He looked a little embarassed when he realized his dad was sitting on his OTHER side, and I was not his mom. The kid couldn't have been more than 5 or 6; what the hell was he doing seeing RotS?!

So I missed the Saturday night thread, but in case any of you "I just graduated from college, what the hell do I do now" posters are back, here's my story. Do with it what you will.

I have not one but TWO degrees in history, an undergraduate and a graduate. When I finished my undergraduate, I panicked that I didn't have a job (a real one anyway) and fled back to college. Within a year of graduating with the Master's, I stumbled onto a job in...advertising. So now I'm a copy editor, which turns out is what I wanted to be in the first place.

So the moral of the story is, "Don't sweat it. All those people who tell you that it's going to work out are, surprisingly, correct." Anybody else have stories to encouage the up-and-comers?

This saturday, I watched "Night of the Living Dead" again. The 1990 version. I had it on tape and now I finally got the DVD. People keep trashing it, saying the original is so much better. Now, I know there are differences, but the documentary on the DVD says they pretty much stuck to the original, including casting actors similar to the orginals.
You guys know if there are any sites out there that compare both, like saying what are the differences or such? All this got me curious...
