Last Saturday night's thread was fun. Can fun strike twice? Presenting: This Saturday night's thread.
Currently tweaking up the new design, getting all of the elements ready for a very hopeful launch tomorrow. Everything's starting to take shape, yayyyy. Saw Darkman for the first time in years last night. Actually, last time I saw it is when it first hit video, and being a preteen at the time, it was pretty scary stuff. Still holds up very well, complete with some of most hilariously over-the-top dialogue ever found in a good movie -- and if you don't believe it, you'll only have to watch like the first 93 seconds of the movie for proof. If you've got nothing to do tonight, go pick it up. If not, converse with your fellow bored weekenders in the comments section about anything you want.

Darkman ruled! regretfully it was followed by a bunch of ba sequels. Can't wait to see the new layout.Sorry about rushing the first post, couldn't restrain myself, hhaha
Chestnuts roasted by d-roc @ 06/11/2005 06:44 PM EST
At this point, why not leave the current design up until Christmas?
Chestnuts roasted by Dylan @ 06/11/2005 06:49 PM EST
Because then we'd miss out on looking at a Halloween design during Thanksgiving.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/11/2005 06:49 PM EST
You know, we've waited this long for the new design, so it's not really a big deal having to wait a few more days. You're a busy man...we forgive you.
But, Matt, I did have a question...Remember when you put that Unicron Remix mp3 on here a few months back (probably last summer for all I remember...)? I lost my copy, was wondering if I could find my way to another one...I can't find it on here, and I really liked it. If you remember what I'm talking about (and I hope you do), please let me know, or someone else reading this at least. I'd love to have it again!

Holy crap. Is it sad that I was kinda thrilled that you just replied to me? You're a celebrity to me, holmes... albeit a minor celebrity.
Chestnuts roasted by Dylan @ 06/11/2005 06:52 PM EST
If you saw me sitting here trying to figure out if this lukewarm coffee is good to drink or if I've ashed in it, you'd think otherwise.
Myke: Wow, that was a --long-- time ago. I have no idea where it is now, though it could still be sitting on the server somewhere. I'll look around.

"I am the the dancing freak...only five dollars". I am glad that the layout is getting uploaded at last Matt. By the way, had you seen the Darkman figure that came out a few months ago?

Never saw "Darkman." Heard it was freaky, but I do like Liam Neeson, so it may be worth a rental. You'd never know I plan on turning in early from the noise around me. The hotels on both end of my block are full, and the bar is even more so. Wildwood is in the midst of convention season, and then we get to have even more fun with the Fourth of July.
Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 06/11/2005 06:59 PM EST
Oh God I miss Wildwood. Starwenn, any new attractions to report?
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/11/2005 07:02 PM EST
Can we expect any new articles with the new layout?
Chestnuts roasted by d-roc @ 06/11/2005 07:08 PM EST
In a sense, yes.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/11/2005 07:12 PM EST
I haven't weighed in with my opinion of the new layout yet, so here it is: I really really like it. At first, it was very jarring to me because I was so used to Christmas, but the more I see it, the more awesome I think it is. And as long as you keep Ecto Cooler in there, I have no complaints.
Photog? Anyone?
Darkman, eh? Yeah, I guess I'll add that to my list of movies to check out. Pretty much every movie you've mentioned is there, but don't expect me to get to it any time soon. I mean, I've wanted to see the Rocketeer for close to 14 years and that hasn't happened yet.
Chestnuts roasted by Rainbowfeet @ 06/11/2005 07:26 PM EST
hey matt, with the new layout is there a way to search old articles? I am somewhat new to this site and would love search easier (More easily?) the old articles. Thank you very much for giving us twentysomethings something to amuse ourselves while we pretend to work.
Chestnuts roasted by kb @ 06/11/2005 07:27 PM EST
kb, try browsing through the main index of this blog...it's not efficient, but it's twice as fun, so what ya gonna choose?
I think I'll miss the old sweet set of pine and x-mas lights...I just had assumed them to be the design itself this far...and not a holiday special hehehehe
BTW: last halloween design was TEH best (yeah, teh)...
right now playing some pacman online (http://www.meloncorp.com/pacman/)
and writing something about the happy hippos star wars edition...i guess we all have a different kind of freaky saturday nights...and it's nice to see I'm not alone!

Good choice of movie to watch, Matt. I've loved the movie since I saw it when I was a little kid right after it came out. And yes it has some great one-liners. "Oh, you've got to be shitin' me" and "Excuse me" are two of my faves.
Chestnuts roasted by Punisher Bass @ 06/11/2005 08:05 PM EST

KB, there are a few good ways to find old articles:
~X-Entertaiment's Three Year Anniversary. April 2003. This is still one of my very favorite articles and is probably one of the most complete archvies (currently) on the site.
~X-Entertainment - Archived Articles! From Spring 2003.
~X-Entertainment's Spooky Archive -- Over 50 Articles Full of TERROR. Halloween 2003.
~X-Entertainment's Archived Articles. Not all of 'em. Just some. Fall 2003 to early 2004.
~Lots of articles from 2003 also have links off to the left for Related X-E Articles!
~use the site search for interesting phrases, like "TMNT", "Christmas", "Star Wars", "boardwalk", "movie review", or whatever catches your fancy.

Darkman was pretty good. Evil Dead is on IFC tonight and I've never watched it before. That's my plan.
Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 06/11/2005 08:57 PM EST
I'd go rent Darkman if it weren't for the fact that our only movie rental store sucks bad. There was time we had upwards of about 12 places to rent in just this city and as of this year we have 1. It's going to go out soon too if it doesn't start treating it's costumers better. I rented a game today and they gave it to me for the wrong system (their fault) and they wouldn't refund my money.
Chestnuts roasted by Dohopoki @ 06/11/2005 09:51 PM EST
Hey dude, if there's anyone who knows how to treat a costumer, it's me.

if i recall correctly, the only thing i didnt understand was why did his voice have to become all hoarse and rough again after his masks wore off with a nice and rico suave voice? it reminds me of how alec baldwins voice was for the shadow, except its when his mask came on, that the super powerful hoarse voice was available.

Havent seen Dark Man in ages, first saw it when I was 5 or 6, I liked it a bit. Saw the sequals recently and they do suck.
I was wondering if anyone could help me here, im trying to remember the name of an old cowboy show (old as in 90's era) I think it was called the adventures of Briscoe County Jr? It incorporated a lot of new age technology and had celebrity guests that would incorporate their famous trait into the show (Be it football star or otherwise) It aired around the same time as Lazarus Man and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.

Happy to help, guys. Two other suggestions for site searches I forgot are "Quickies" and "Animalia".
You'll also see the different layouts the page has gone through if you've only ever seen the last few.

Not so shocking revelation: I have seen Darkman and enjoyed it much more than playing the video game.
Of course I can't remember if I ever played the video game, or just remember reading the review of it in Nintendo Power a million times.
Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 06/11/2005 11:04 PM EST
Knegative,
I used to do that too - read about video games and imagine playing them, so that years later I can't decide if I actually played the game or just imagined it.
It's just good to know I'm not alone.
Random thing - does anyone else remember those furry stuffed animal toys that came with a high-pitched whistle (moon-shaped, I think) and when you blew the whistle, the thing's eyes would light up and it would beep at you and stuff? What the heck where those things called?

Speaking of movie games, Path of Neo is coming out like in December or something.
I'm sorry guys, I'm a Redpill, not a Star Wars enthusiast.
May there be peace between us. I'm extending the olive branch. Of course you could just laugh at me...like everyone else =)

My favorite over-the-top scene from Darkman was the one at the carnival... Can't help but crack a smile by just thinking of it
"Take the f**king elephant!"
Best. Line. Ever.

I hate teenyboppers. I want them to die. I hate how they flood my coffeeshop on weekend nights. I don't normally have to work weekend nights. God, I sound like Dante in Clerks. " I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE HERE TODAY!!!!!!"
Heh, anywho can't wait for November 1st for that is the day the entire Star Wars saga is being released on DVD. At least thats what it said on theforce.net.
Ugh....another uneventful day...

I've been here for a long time, and I've seen a LOT of stuff come off the site, and in times of boredom I have even scoured the linked archives to see a great many of the articles X-E has done over the years. Even the "subvulture" ones and the stuff written by people... OTHER than Matt. Now, I realize that the chances of getting a full archive of all the stuff that's shown up here is about as likely as getting a conclusion to the unfinished Advent Calendar, Cobra's Chia Plot, and so much other aborted stuff on X-E, but with the 1000-article mark coming up soon, I say that it's time for there to be another long, funny look back at where this place started (even BEFORE the peanut), the odd places it's gone, and just HOW much fun we've had over these past five years.

Chestnuts roasted by kb @ 06/12/2005 01:37 AM EST
That would be rocking. A huge archive of everything from beginning to now. I have to say though, this site sure has grown a lot. I actually look forward to those articles where Matt goes to obscure places. Which reminds me, whatever happened to that store near Matt's home where it sold old food? Would be nice to return to that place. Or perhaps that 99 cent store where they sold "offensive ethnic statues". Those who've read lots of Matt's articles over the years, knows what I'm talking about. I think anyways.

oooh, Darkman. I remember seeing all three movies [There were only three, right..right?] on one of my last B-grade bonanza requesting sprees from the hugeass video place in town. The first was good, the rest were hilariously retconned. "In the last movie, Darkman found true love. But he's Darkman, so he, uh, can't do that. Now, here's the next movie!"

I was just at the Boardwalk yesterday, Matt, which is why I didn't get back to you sooner. A few rides have been moved around (for some reason, the Doo Wopper small roller coaster was shuttled from Wild Wheels to the original Morey's). They finally replaced the lights on the Giant Ferris Wheel (half of them were blown out). There's two new diner-type places (Route 66 and the Doo Wopper Diner - hey, sense a theme with the Doo-Wop stuff?). There's a new free-fall-type ride near the log flume at the original Morey's, which, unfortuantly, seems to have lost the Flitzer coaster that was the first one I remember riding. I don't know what they're putting where the Doo-Wopper used to be at Wild Wheels'. That spot's just empty now.
A lot of hotels are being torn down. Though most of the smaller hotels in my area (including the Heart of Wildwood and the Premiere - I'm two minutes from the former and twenty from the latter on foot) are safe, due to the proximity of the convention center, hotels and apartment buildings are being torn down at an alarming rate and being replaced with condos only a multi-quad-gajillionaire could afford.
If you can drag your buddies down here again, I'd recommend staying in the Heart of Wildwood/Premiere area. It's closer to the attractions, and a lot of the hotels elsewhere in the island are being replaced with condos most normal working folks like you and me can ill afford.
Oh, and I've seen Big Daddy a couple of times, including shopping in the grocery store where I work. He's now on the other end of the boardwalk in North Wildwood, but he still wears bright pink shirts and randomly scratches his crotch.
