05/03/2005 Entry: "See-na."

Way-uh-sec...ja meen they CAN-CHA-LIN 'Everyone Loves Raymond?!'Yesterday, I snuck outside for a quick cig, and who was standing there but none other than current WWE champ and probably the only guy in the world who can make the public think highly of Stacker 2's energy drinks, John Cena. With championship belt. I'm pretty sure the crew filming him was from UPN, with the director giving him a bunch of oddball things to freestyle about. I must've got out there just as they did, because within a minute, every wrestling fan in Times Square was throwing panties. Best part: The random derelict hopping up and down behind the cameraman, screaming about how Cena "kills EVERYONE, I mean it, he kills EVERYONE, man!" If history is any indication, whatever they were filming will be on UPN after Smackdown! this Thursday. Keep your ears open -- I guarantee the production team will not be able to drown out the screaming crazy derelict. He's obviously on his way to Intercontinental gold. I've really gotta start keeping my camera with me at all times. Bad Matt.

I love wrestling. On my website I wrote an article about my 10 favorite wrestlers, with jobbers coming in first.

Wow. It's really cool you had a run-in with a bona-fide WWE grappler, Matt. Too bad it had to be that douche-knuckle John Cena. If it had been Triple H, then you could actually feel ashamed for not having your camera on you.

Chestnuts roasted by The Yeti @ 05/03/2005 10:43 PM EST

It would have been better if Cena freaked out and tossed the screaming homeless guy through a table.

Eew, wrestling. razz

I wouldn't have known that guy from a hole in the ground. Sorry...

If I'd gone out for a cig and seen Triple H, I'd try to put it out on his eye. That guy is ruining the company.

This is completely off topic, but does anyone remember potato chips a few years ago that were supposedly baked potato flavored? They were supposed to be like a baked potato with all the stuff that you put on it. Best chips ever. I got one bag, then they disappeared.

Chestnuts roasted by Mara @ 05/04/2005 12:49 AM EST

That is soooo cool Matt! *Big Cena Fan* You run into him by accident. I have to wait 8 hours in LA to mee him. Too bad you didn't talk to him he is so down to earth. ^_^

Chestnuts roasted by pikachulover @ 05/04/2005 02:45 AM EST

Mara I totally remeber those. They were Ruffels with a picture of a baked potato on the bag with all of the toppings. They called them "the works" we gotta get a bag of those for Matt to review. They mostly just tasted like the chedder ones but better.

Wow, I miss wasting my thursday nights watching WWE. (My personal allegiance is to Rey Misterio.) I don't get none here in Germany. Strange thing was, when I droped down to Italy a couple weeks ago, most of the t-shirt vendors had a wide selection of WWE t-shirts. Silly...

Mara, I remember.

Oh, and the X-mas theme was were I met, courted, and fell in love with X-E. I'll be lost with out it!

Yo Yeti- Why do you not like John Cena? His gimmick or wrestling skills?

Personally, I hate Triple H, but I can't blame him, he is heir to the throne and Stephanie's fake boobs must be fun to play with.

Wrestling sucks over here. They did put Wrestlemania on for free on AFN here, but they are just now giving us the full two hours of Raw and Smackdown. They are still behind though.

Wrestling just isn't the same for me since all the Von Erics died!!!

Does anybody else remember the old "World Class Championship Wrestling"?

Chestnuts roasted by oldskool25 @ 05/04/2005 07:42 AM EST

My brother and I used to watch wrestling when we were kids, and then he'd try out whatever new moves he saw on me.

Yeah, usually someone ended up hurt. Surprisingly, only about half the time it was me.

But really, I couldn't give a crap about it now. It's basically a soap opera for men.

Gimme REAL sports!!!!!

Chestnuts roasted by bad karma @ 05/04/2005 08:06 AM EST

Emajorwitz,
I pretty much hate everything about John Cena from his irritating gimmick to his non-existent wrestling skills. He reminds me so much of the Rock: a thoroughly mediocre wrestler who has no business being champ. I was actually rooting for JBL at Mania...that's how much I loathe Cena. WWE has the nasty tendency of giving untalented, undeserving schmucks huge pushes. Dopes like JBL and Cena become champion, while competent wrestlers like Chris Jerhico keep losing matches. Hopefully, the draft-lottery will rectify some of these problems. Frankly, I watch NWA-TNA more frequently than WWE. The storylines are kind of weak, but the in-ring action thoroughly outflanks anything WWE could hope to offer.

P.S. Yes, I'd imagine that Steph's boobies are very fun to play with.

Chestnuts roasted by The Yeti @ 05/04/2005 08:37 AM EST

WWE is exactly like a soap opera for men, dripping with faux bad boy raging hormones. I hate it.

I still have the empty bag from the time I tried Steak and Onion chips. Just to prove I wasn't dreaming such a thing.
Little Brother gets to meet all sorts of wrestlers up in Lawrence, Kansas. From old veterans from Mid-South to his hero, Mick Foley. He calls or e-mails me whenever he gets to meet a new one. Nice sense of celebrity, that one. He once practically ran over Elaine Miles (from Northern Exposure) so he could shake hands with Coach Kelvin Sampson.

Cena "kills EVERYONE, I mean it, he kills EVERYONE, man!"

I sure hope that isn't true, killing people isn't a good thing. Most of the time.

Anyway, Cena is pretty good, saw him live at a show in Germany sometime ago, but he ain't no Steve Austin or Rock that's for sure.

I'm down in Stuttgart. Moved here to get married, now I'm just kicking it with my $20 set of rabbit-ears that pick up 1 count 'em ONE station. Yehaaaa! What about you? How's the weather there? It's pretty rainy here, but at least it's not snowing any more.

God I hate wrestling. It just hasn't been the same since the old days with Macho Man Randy Savage, Brutis The Barber Beefcake, Andre the Giant, Junk-Yard Dog.. you get the idea. I actually met The Barber once, waaaaaaaaay back in the day. I think Mick Foley is the only one who reminds me of those days. Even the "Hulkster" is a shadow of his "old school" self.

Christian ripping on John Cena is probably the best thing in wrestling for quite some time. The fact that he got crushed by Kane gives me hope that he'll be rewarded with a main-event push.

They were indeed called The Works. I think another company did an equally delicious product called Loaded Baked Potato.

Speaking of chips, does anyone remember some pizza chips? They came in cheese, pepperoni, and supreme.

Mara, maybe you are thinking of Tater Skins? They were made by Keebler, and had a jungle that went "they have great taste because they have potato skins for real", or something like that. They still make Tater Skins, but it is by some no-name snack food company (I guess Keebler sold the rights)

Chestnuts roasted by Destro @ 05/04/2005 07:59 PM EST

I suddenly remembered. Ruffles did the Works potato flavor. Lays did a promotion where they had tributes to various US state flavors. Ex-Wisconsin cheddar flavor. They did a Loaded Baked Potato that was a tribute to Chicago. I have no clue what Chicago has to do with baked potatoes though.

Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 05/04/2005 09:29 PM EST

Hey Matt, maybe you should consider getting one of those small 1-2 mega-pixel cameras that they sell for like $30-40. Sure, they tend to be kind of crappy, but they are small enough that you can actually carry them around without it being a hastle, and cheap enough that you can carry them around without worrying too much about it getting lost or damaged.

A $600 AFN decoder? is it still only one channel? still no commericals?
For ten years now I can't stand the wheel of fortune because I use to be forced to watch it. need hardship pay for only having one channel.

Chestnuts roasted by RAS @ 05/05/2005 10:33 AM EST

No...they actually have several channels now, but it still blows.

When I was in the Okinawa with the Marines, they only had three channels, AFN, some movie channel, and a Japanese language one. Ghostbusters in Japanese is a hoot! I was able to follow baseball, but I did give all the players automotive names...

Now here in Germany, as a civilian (thank God!), it is AFN Europe, AFN Korea, AFN Atlantic, AFN Sports, AFN Spectrum...aww, who am I kidding, it still sucks!

Semper Fi,
Erik Majorwitz

Chestnuts roasted by EMajorwitz @ 05/05/2005 03:41 PM EST

DOes AFN still have crappy PSAs instead of actual commercials? I remember when I got Ninja Turtles on VHS I was delighted to see the Pizza Hut "Right Field" commercial. Either that or it was the sheer euphoria of being able to watch the TMNT movie whenever I wanted.

Cena isn't getting a huge push just because the WWE wants him to... he's getting a huge push because the CHAIN GANG wants him to! I can agree that he lacks a little in the wresting talent department, but the man holds the audience in the palm of his hand every single night, and even if I didn't like the guy, I couldn't deny that he's the most popular guy in the company right now.

Although my like for WWE has been topsy-turvy for quite some time now (watch it but end up changing channel), Cena is - to me - the most annoying character right now. His whole gimmick chills my very soul.

However, his (very) brief spurts of intensity before WMXXI were promising - could never make up for his lack of ring skills though.

As for the Xmas theme - what is the point of removing them in the middle of the year? It has gotten to the point where they MUST - I repeat MUST - stay until Xmas '05.
Either remove in Jan' of next year or change them for updated Christmas goodness in December.

Christmas in May? - XE RuleZ!!1 ;p (sorry)

Yeti - alright, i can take the Cena bashing, but bashing The Rock?! The man was more than mediocre in the ring. At least he could tell a story in the ring. That, and he was 1/3rd of the Holy Trinity of the Attitude Era (Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Mankind) with runners up being HHH, Taker, and McMahon.

JLAJRC - Yes, the Pizza chips were the shit!!! I think they were made by the Keebler people.
