Thanks to the whole two of you who sent in egg pictures! I kid, I know it was a late request. The R2 egg was created by a reader named Anthony, and I've definitely done the same thing to eggs in the past. "Wanda Waddle," the blue beauty on the right, comes from Kristin. Big bonus points for using plastic googly eyes.

Second post, and my favourite Kool-Aid has to be cherry. Anyway, I WOULD'VE sent in an egg, but I have no egg colouring shit, except for a sharpie. Hey Matt, whatever happend to that store that sold food long forgotten, (the one you bought the ten year old Jell-o at)? I wish I had a store like that.

Kool-aid kicks major ass but who could forget Freshie drink mix, with the little kids on the cover licking their lips, well thats as i remember it. I'm sure no one will remember, because it was a canadian company from the 60's, my dad had saved up packages of it lol.
My favorite Kool-aid flavour is cherry.

Great Bluedini. favorite blue flavor(Though blue lemonade's a close second) probably the first to use that color changing powder, plus the fact that it's a octopi magician, which seems like a random choice, but it made for an interesting commercial. I found it weird though that the octopus was a cartoon in the kool-aid stuff store spot then appeared in his own commercial as a puppet with a human face. at least it lasted a few more years as a kool-aid blast flavor.(do they still make those?)

I loved sharkleberry! Kick ass flavour, man. Let's see, what else? All the old ones you can't get anymore... purplesaurus rex, the blue one they had around '90 (i think it may have just been an early blue lemonade, i don't know), that black halloween one, and that really really red one that my mother always absolutely refused to buy because if I dropped it on the carpet she'd cut off my fingers. I think it had a dinosaur on it too or something. Anyway, that's my kool-aid, sigh, meeeeemories.

Black Cherry or Orange. Big Berry Blue fan when it was out.
There used to be kool-aid races in our house to see who'd be the one to finish the current pitcher and select the next flavor.

Do you EVER get relief from the mush stuffing detail?
Fav flav would be Strawberry, followed pretty closely by Cherry. Reading the Kool-Aid FAQ reminds me of those bygone days when we thought that mixing hard liquor into any flavor of Kool-Aid made an delicious and even sophisticated cocktail. We were simple and naive back then...
Awesome that E. Claire seems to have more interest in the Doc Ock egg than the frilly pinky girlie one. The R2 and Wanda eggs are cool too.

Gawd rawks! Gawd rolls! Gawd does the flying drumset better than Tommy Lee!
I had friends in town last night, so we went out and closed a bar down, it was killer (duck?) Then I just stayed up all night, since I had to be at church at 5:30 in the fucking morning. I had to play trombone in our church choir, which is kind of hard when you're still drunk from 3 hours before!
It was a blast, I smoked a bowl so I was down with Jesus for the morning. Then I went to breakfast, came home and took a nap. Then I went to my grandma's house for ham. HAM!! It was delish. Now I'm home trying not to crash until bedtime. If I take a nap now, I'll be up all night again and that would be bad for work tomorrow.
Fave Kool-Aid? Hmmm...prob Berry Blue or Great Bludini. I also dig plain lime. The green is a big draw for something you put in your belly!
Happy Easter!

Kool Aid was okay. I tried it a few times. The only powdered drink I ever really drank a lot of was Country Time. Is it just me or are most powdered drinks 99% sugar or aspartame?
Never tried the Sharkleberry Fin. From the picture you have, Matt, that strong pink color makes it look more like liquid bubble gum or a weak Pepto Bismol solution.

When I was younger, I used to drink Kool-Aid like it was going out of style. Now, I can't stand any drink that comes in powder form (even Nestle Quik I only get in syrup form). Of course, my mom only gets the sugerfree diet flavors so that maybe why.
I guess my favorite flavors are the citrus ones or combination flavors like Sharkberry. One fruit flavors are too simple for me.

Holy...Christ. Sharkleberry Fin is my all-time favorite Kool-Aid flavor. Oh, the countless sleepless nights I've spent pining for that unique Sharkleberry goodness. Actually, I can't even remember what it tasted like when it was around, but I do remember loving the shit. Speaking of egg-coloring and whatnot, anybody remember those Dudley brand coloring kits that included a large plastic egg into which one was supposed to place a real egg along with some dye and then shake vigorously? Whenever I would see a commercial for that thing, I would think to myself "Gee, I wonder how that works without smashing the egg to pieces". Well, I eventually ended up having my mom by it for me and guess what? The egg intended for colorization ended up being smashed to pieces. You won that round, Dudley...

My favorite three Kool-Aid flavors in order:
3) Sharkleberry Fin
2) Berry Blue
1) Purplesaurus Rex
And in homage to Purplesaurus Rex, if you want to be a pain in the butt to your bartender, ask for a cocktail containing 50% (actual) lemonade, 40% vodka, and 10% grape soda. The bar I frequent happens to carry grape soda. Anyway, it is a very reasonable alcoholic version of Purplesaurus Rex... Love the stuff!

Fave flavor? Berry Blue or one that was green...don't remember the name. She spend around 90 bucks on it all and if you do the math it is alot of kool aid. I'm sorry, but the most unstoppable liquid ever created in a factory by human beings is Mountain Berry Kool-Aid. Even as an adult, I know that if I found that stuff, I'd drink nearly a gallon a day. That, of course, could lead to some disastrous diabetic effects, but you only go around once!

I still drink Kool Aid occasionally in the summertime, and it always brings me back to hot summer afternoons when my sisters and friends and I would come back from the beach for a brief lunch before returning for a second round of sand and surf fun. But I used to keep them, and balas, and redtails, and blacktips, and blacks, and rainbows, and apollo sharks. Just for the name (also, apollos ate guppies and minnows like they were going out of style). Who cares if they are all really just barbs (AKA carp, AKA minnows).

Kool-Aid Suicide is the possibly the only thing on Earth that is close to the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster. Especially if you mix the packets with only enough sugar for only one packet. OK, this is the perfect opportunity to bring this up. When I said this to my husband he looked at me like I was crazy. A couple of months ago I was online and found a picture of an 80's-era packet of Kool-Aid and I had this completely guttoral reaction. That glass pitcher with the dripping condensation on the outside (so you know it's icy cold) and the fuity beverage inside. AAAHHHH!!! When I saw it it was like I was 6 again and I needed Kool-Aid in the worst way. Can anyone relate to this?
I was actually a huge fan of the Fruit-T's that came out a few years ago. I was sad when they discontinued those. The Strawberry Tea rocked.
As far as drinking old Kool-Aid, when my husband was a kid he was a big fan of watermelon Wyler's. When his mom couldn't find it at the store she wrote the company to ask about it and they sent her a huge box of packets. I can only imagine how old they are - 15 years maybe? We drink them all the time with no ill effects. We're coming down to the last of them though - finally. The cool thing is that it's clear so you can fake people out and tell them it's water. We've done it more than once.

I remember when Kool-Aid had a huge promotion with Nintendo around the time Super Mario Bros. 3 came out. They had Nintendo-themed games and puzzles on the back of those Kool-Aid Kooler boxes. Brings back memories of having SMB3 fruit snacks and a Kool-Aid Kooler at snack time on a school field trip to the park.
Oh and does anyone remember when Kool-Aid had a promo with KayBee Toys that when you turned in some Wacky Warehouse points, you got a free video that had all kinds of weird skits on it?

Okay Mars-
I'll tell, even though I already pretty much said it all. We were in K-mart a couple of years ago getting something for something... I don't remember, but I know we had some food from the frozen section. We got into the express lane- 10 items or less, I think, and the guy in front of us had a crapload of Kool-aid, plus some other stuff. I guess he thought that duplicates of one item counted as one or something. So because the flavors were different and he didn't separate them into groups, the girl at the register had to ring them all up individually. I counted them as they passed- one hundred packets of Kool-aid. In the express lane. Who does that? And it took forever to ring them up, too. It was crazy!
Not too interesting now, but boy was that a story when it happened!

My favorite kool-aid flavor is lemonade. I find it kind of funny how so many people seem to love the cherry flavor yet to me it's the worst tasting flavor easily.

ah, the "wacky wild kool-aid style" tape. yeah, you could get some interesting stuff at kaybee with kool-aid points such as hot wheels, gack splat!, and those little volley balls with frog legs(Wonder if anybody else remembers those). Anyway, the tape mainly consisted of overdubbed stock footage from kool-aid commercials and black and white movies, and some sketches including a cartoon rendition of stan frebergs take on day-o where the bongo player has an ear ache, and the one where dom deluise is taunted by a newspaper box. watched the tape who knows how many times 'til the vcr ate it.

I have the tape. Will review someday. Positively absurd.

during desert storm i used sharkeberry fin to make the desalinized water drinkable. i even made up a song about it:
sharkleberry fin x 5 (the first 2 fins are dragged out, the last 3 are short)
gonna fuckin' die x 5
ship me home in parts x 5
it's not very original, but it was humorous at the time.

i really like the bottle of chardonnay you have chilling behind the pitcher of kool-aid in the picture.
A+.

As an aside, did anyone notice the name of the artist who did the cover for the activity book? Dan DeCarlo - longtime Archie Comics illustrator. Interesting...

hey matt, off topic slightly but, according to digitalbits.com, there's a 2 disc Jaws anniversary dvd coming out in July! You're gonna need a bigger boat!

Is Rockadile Red extinct too? I really want to make a pitcher of it but there's only one left in my kool-aid stash.

Very cool IHAQ.
I actually just found the Wayback Machine recently. I'm still pretty addicted to it. And I only found X-E 2 years ago or so. I've still got a lot of catching up to do. Just read one on Matt's 1987 birthday party. "Is Jake Clairvoyant? YES!"
Chestnuts roasted by Scott P @ 03/31/2005 08:25 PM EST
How many people Wayback X-E? My X-E excitement really just started in October and I immediately went to the Wayback Machine to see what I've been missing. I just wish there was an easier way to read old articles... like with a simple archive feature on this site.
And the 1987 Birthday Party is also one of my favorites.

Something else just occurred to me...
It's too bad that this comic wasn't published a few years earlier, because the letterer for Archie Comics in the early 1980s was none other than...
...Pierre Bernard (credited as Pierre Bernard Jr.), the graphic designer from Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the star of "Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage". The guy is at least ten years older than he looks (looks 30, actually in his early 40s).

I remember that, just before Sharkleberry Fin was released on the open market, there was a special form you could send in to be the first to try out the new flavor of Kool Aid. I got my first packet of Sharkleberry Fin for free!

Sharkleberry is my favorite flavor!! I thought it was strawberry/watermelon, but the banana would be that flavor I could never put my finger on.
I miss raspberry.
I have about 50 packets of watermelon-cherry that I bought a few summers ago when a local grocery store closed & sold everything @ 75% off. I would trade some for Sharkleberry.

Anyone know if the kool-aid slushes (or Barbotines) are still being sold? I moved three or four years ago, and haven't seen them since. Though they had all but disapeared back in Michigan by that time as well. I still have a box full of them, for that super satisfied feeling of exclusive kool-aid drinking that Matt was talking about. But it breaks my heart to actually use any of them, knowing that it's bringing me ever closer to the end. Or IS it?

oh. my. sweet holy jeebus. my friend just sent me this link because.. well.. he and i have a history with sharkleberry fin. i think i love you people. this is a wonderful place. and as far as kool aid goes, since they've booted all the good flavors, black cherry is my favorite. still get it at least once a week because my friends come over and make it at two in the morning, usually staining my counter in the process. ooh kool aid. huzzah.
Chestnuts roasted by jinxy @ 04/04/2005 11:42 PM EST
I'm not sure if anybody reads this far down, but I'll try anyway. Sharkleberry Fin was one of my favorite kinds of kool-aid. I remember finding packets being sold at a duscount store about 4 years after it was discontinued and kept one of them (emptied). My sister claims that Starblast Strawberry, or somethng like that here in Canada, tastes like Sharkelberry, and its pretty close. I found packs of Incrediberry from the mid to late 90s at a store last summer. It was awesome. I may have to check it out again, at the very least so I could resell to eager kool-aid folks.

CRESCENT FRESH,
hey matt, it says on the kool-aid FAQ site that purplesaurus rex is still on sale in Canada. And if there are any Russians reading this you guys are still communist bastards because you are the only country with the Rasberry flavor!
BTW- 4:20 is a couple of days away! Matt, do an article about it! I know you rock out on 4:20 like evryone else here on Staten Island.

Does this mean I'm rich? Or just that my cupboard smells fruity?
Bidding starts at $50 XD
