01/19/2005 Entry: "Sideshow, they make a great Jason(s) no?"

Geez, you've gotta get to checkin' widdese. Sideshow Collectibles has graced the world with a shitload of amazing 12" dolls from the Friday the 13th series, and normally this wouldn't be that big of a deal for me, but they've gone ahead and made dolls representing all of the different Jasons! Well, some of them at least. My favorite just for the sheer "I can't believe they made it" factor is Jason Voorhees as he appeared in Part II, complete with uncharacteristic large tuft of hair and an outfit that made Farmer Brown run around screaming about someone stealing his church clothes. And the sack mask! Other dolls in the line follow suit with being awesome, particularly the version from Part VI, perfectly encapsulating Jason's sudden progression from mangled man to Zsanus, king of the zombie lizards of Jupiter 9. By the way, this isn't a paid ad or anything. I don't think Sideshow would pay to lend promotion to figures that are limited editions already mostly sold out. Sorry if I had you all excited. Most of 'em are gone, available only to those brave enough to scour eBay with twice the original retail cost in their Paypal accounts.

LATE EDIT: Congrats to site pal and blogger "Manimal" on his first born!

If there is one thing I have to buy, it may be one of those. Either that or a new puppy. It's a toss up really.

Was never a big F13 fan, but I always liked Jason's look from the second movie. Not as intimidating, but a heck of a lot more "Wow there could really be a guy like that" appeal. Oh Matt just wondering if you got the e-mail I sent to your non aol e-mail. It was about a X-Men activity book from...85' I believe. I'm guessing you did, but I never trust yahoo for getting e-mails through.

F13 are some pretty funny movies...more of a laugh than a scare. Who's that guy with the bag on his head and weilds a pitchfork?

It must be cool to live somewhere that you can actually go and DO something. I live in the middle of Amish country PA and my neighbors are Mennonites. -_-;; But at least there's lots of good flea markets in the summer. *shrug*

Those are some nice dolls. There was a site that was selling prop replica's of Freddy's gloves and hats from all the Nightmare movies. They were all different according to which movie they were from. Cool shit.

I used to work at best buy and bought all the movies on dvd before hte box set came out. Cost me around $70. Then when I heard of the box set i sold them all for $130....Unfortuneatly I don't have money or time for dvd's anymore so I didn't buy them back.

Movie character dolls are the best- I have a kick ass Dr. Evil doll from MacFarlane (sp?) toys. Its from the first Austin powers and has the quote "My childhood was typical..summers in Rangoon, luge lessons...in the spring we'd make meat helmets." Excellent.

Those looks fantastic.. although no Friday the 13th toy set should be complete until Corey Feldman gets a figure.. now I'd buy that!

I like how you took the mask picture showing only one eye. Shows detail.

Those figures are pretty cool. Do they make Michael Myers figurines? If they do, they should sell them in a sealed box and hand out a booby prize of Mike Myers in every 100th set. Talk about a collector's item.

Hey, how about "The Life of Corey Haim" figures? The first one could be him in his wheelchair and needing a haircut, from "Silver Bullet". Then one in some missmatched, layered clothes driving his grandfather's blue car from "Lost Boys". Oh, and then one w/ cornrows and a leg cast from "Dream a Little Dream". Then one holding a pizza box and roller skating from "Prayer of the RollerBoys". Then one of his w/ a studded dog collar and a needle in his arm from just about any movie after that. The last one would be him w/ little baggies of his chopped up hair and rotten bits of enamel, and a sandwich board saying "Check EBay for the best Haimster artifacts". Man, those figures would be sweet.

I won't be satisfied until they release a Betsey Palmer as Mrs. Vorhees doll (with removable head.)
Then I could put her in my "I've Got A Secret" Play set and have Bill Cullen cut her head off.
THAT will be cool.

Chestnuts roasted by Sweetie @ 01/20/2005 08:46 AM EST

Sweetie -- THEY HAVE! Doesn't come with a removable head, but it does come with an extra head! A severed one!

Traj -- I think they make Myers, and pretty much all the other notables. The series really gives NECA a run for its money. In the same scale, they also have the original Leatherface -- really nice figure.

Matt,

As far as i can tell, there is no Corey Haim doll. However, in the midst of my search, I DID find that the following webpage linked to your article on Corey Haim selling his teeth: Corey Haim Thing. There was one dude who dropped a comment about buying such crap and making a Corey Haim doll out of it. Hmmm. A life-sized Corey Haim doll? An interesting project indeed.

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 01/20/2005 06:12 PM EST

"sweet, sweet Corey Haim arms. Hmmm…"

Hee!
I looked for a Corey Haim doll, too, Nate, and I couldn't find one. I can't believe no one has made Lost Boys figurines. Just think of the cool vamped out Max doll they could make, w/ his pointy tongue sticking out at pre-fat Diane Wiest, right before the plastic fence post is shot through his chest, propelled by Grampa's blue car. They could make a set of vampires that are hanging from their feet in sleep mode, w/ those cool opposable toes they had, and then a playset of them all sitting around, offering Michael maggots and blood.

Did anyone else know that Corey Feldman's real parents play the owners of the comic shop the Frog brothers work at? Yeah, that's them, two passed out hipies in a heap on the floor. That 5 second shot was the beginning and then end of their Hollywood careers.

Muppet Baby / Kingklash/ Anyone - can someone tell me where to get that "in the spring we made meathelmets" quote? Even from the beginning of the monologue when the Doc talks about his father. It's absolutely priceless, and will be great to be able to quote straight-off at parties... not that i've been to any parties lately ((cries)). ((but not too unhappily, as friends aren't dead, they're in Cape Town, Durban or Jo'burg, or in "Little Jo'burg", London, England. Haha.))

Chestnuts roasted by eminentfreak @ 01/21/2005 07:11 AM EST

I am dropping the -789 from the name. It was an old AOL screen name that has LONG since outlived it's usefulness. I just kept it around for when I emailed Matt, etc.
Okay, slept some last night and I am semi-recharged. Emily Claire (my wife picked out the name. She liked Emily and Claire is French. She is a French teacher. Other than that, the names have no significance.) was born Tues night/Wed morn at 2:42 AM.
Don't worry Trajeal, there was no need for heroics. She took all the available...medications. Which was good because she was 8 lbs 12 oz! Week late if you will recall. Head full of black hair (like Mom), face like me. Perfectly healthy and happy. I got her off to a good start singing RUSH to her and watching the BRADY BUNCH and ALF (quality "family" shows).
Anyways, that's the scoop on that.

Uncles Matt, kingklash, kidneyboy, and her aunties trajeal, eminentfreak, and the other relatives of indeterminate gender. Nice choice of lullabies, dude. Hope you started with "Closer to The Heart" and waited a little bit before going into "Tom Sawyer." I found that Van Morrison's "Moondance" album helps with geting the squabs relaxed. The way I was brought up, neices and nephews are treated like your own kids. I try to be the "cool dad" type. "You know you're not to play with matches! Going to the dr today for chronic migraines. Wish me luck! These things are killer, seriously. Oh, and send Mr. Traj some "pick up the kids so poor Trajeal can go to the dr by herself" vibes. On a more urgent note - I'm having a serious cereal crisis. I can't find AlphaBits ANYWHERE! :'( It has to be my most favorite cereal in the world (I eat it dry) and none of the stores carry it around here any longer. I live in Maryland, so if anyone has had any sightings, to let me at least know that they are still making it - I'd be extremely grateful. *wishes she had some 'bits right now* sad

Manimal- Way to go! Glad everything turned out okay, and I love her name! I'm so glad to see another parent that is going to ensure their child is brought up right- with lots of references to the all things 1980s. I refuse to give toys to my friend's baby that aren't related to 80s cartoons (hence a lot of Care Bears toys!)
Nice pick on the Rush, too- as a Canadian, I really appreciate that other people like Rush.

Eminentfreak- I'm not really sure where you can find that whole quote- Austin Powers used to have a webpage where you could download most quotes from the movie, but this was a long time ago. I'm sure if you went on Kazaa or something like that, a lot of people might have it. It IS a good one, and very party-quotable!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Manimal on the birth of your daughter, Emily Claire. You said you altered her name, what were you originally going with?

Hey, this is an omen right? I mean, I can't name my daughter Emily now right? I mean, the Emily quota is filled here on X-E...so I guess I'm having a boy? Whoo hoo! I guess if I do have a little Brett David I should thank Manimal then the higher beings (i.e. God, Matt, Vince McMahon)

Hey kingklash, I'm alittle hurt not being named in the family tree to little E.C. Manimal. I'm family too! sad I'm to be referred to as Uncle E.

Trajeal- Still alive, just been alittle less net saavy lately. I also haven't posted in awhile due to not wanting to steal Manimal's baby thunder.

We went for another ultrasound on MLK Day. Nothing new on the sex identity, but we did see two legs, two arms, and ELBOWS!!! Yes, elbows. Also, we are out of the first trimester, so things should be okay. smile It's weird because my wife needed fertility drugs with her first two (though I think it was the ex hubby that wasn't functioning properly), but this one...BAM!!! smile

We go back in a month and I promise to post much sooner than I have this time. Hope you don't take points off for late work.

Oh Manimal, let me know how the 80's educational process of little E.C. goes, as I will use it as a blueprint, along with that Parenting Guide Trajeal should be putting out any day now. Right Trajeal?

We are both high school teachers (me-U.S. and World History Mrs. French 1-4).
As far as 80's nostalgia indoctrination, it is part of a larger scheme to teach her that there were things before her time AND were things come from (movie references and other important stuff). Sounds trite and cliche but parents are the 1st teachers.
Since she is a girl, it MAY be hard for her to get into MOTU BUT , I don't have to worry about traumatizing her if I cry during CHARLOTTE'S WEB, etc.

Manimal,

Class of 1998 here. Wife and I are eight years apart, but that didn't stop her from robbin' the cradle. smile

Still in college...blah, but you know, doing four years in the Marines puts you behind the curve in graduating with your peers, so I'll hopefully be done in 2006.

I originally wanted to be a sports broadcaster, but since ESPN isn't knocking down my door and I refuse to do those stupid MONSTER.com commercials (today's the day my ass), I'm going to my back up plan:

Coaching football and teaching high school history. I guess you could give me some pointers on the latter of the two.

Not cliche at all. So true about your saying parents are the first teachers. Seems these days most kids get sucky ones. I think all children should know what it was like to grow up in the 80's.

I mean, I guess I can take some solace in the fact that I can get my stepdaughters to like My Little Pony and their ears perked up when I told them about a girl transformer (Arcee).

Oh, jeez, manimal, she is beautiful. I love the little red birthmark on the tip of her nose. All three of my girls had those when they were born, only it was right between the eyes. I also had one, as did my mom and grandmother, always in the same place. Seeing little Emily reminds me of my babies. Sniff.

Brief bio: grew up in MA but now live in CT. Never went to college. Met Mr. Traj when I was 19, we got married June 97 when we were 22. Had our first mini Traj Oct 98 (Columbus Day), second one April 01 (on my birthday :-)) and the third one March 03 (my main man Chris Walken's 60th b-day). Started homeschooling in 2002 for PreK. Now I'm teaching 1st grade and PreK while Baby Traj takes her afternoon nap. Um, what else? I just finished making chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and, um, I really need to vacuum my floors.

I actually came on here to say that I had a great catch at the thrift store the other day. I found Pete's Dragon, in the case and in mint condition. Woohoo! "A dragon, a dragon, I swear I saw a dragon!" Mickey Rooney's best performance. He deserved an Emmy.

See, it all comes back to the baby talk, manimal.

oh eminentfreak?

Dr. Evil: The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
Therapist (Carrie Fisher): Oh no, please, please, let's hear about your childhood.
Dr Evil: Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian woman named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Therapist: You know, we have to stop.

Hello kids! Picture it. Toronto, 2005...a young woman is watching ye olde idiot box and while she's channel surfing, she comes across some movie where this lady is having a baby and in her head she was like "Hmm...new baby...just like lil Emily...way to go Manimal!" That young woman was me. Apparently this blog has wormed its way into my heart. Also the fact that I actually went as far as to ask my brother if he owns Austin Powers so I could transcribe Dr. Evil's therapy session on a Saturday night made me see the light.
I'm a geek, damnit smile I love it smile

Some time this week I am going to check this store that's an hour away from my place. Last time I was there they had all 4 of the old Star Trek Ninja Tutrles. The lady that owned the place had around 20 of each, still in the boxes, setting on a table for $5 each. I didn't have any money on me at the time, but I'm gonna check to see if she still has them, and buy a couple of sets. I'm really no fan of Star Trek, but who doesn't love the turtles?

Any way, if anyone might be interested, and the lady still has more than one set, I'll be nice to total strangers a pick up an extra set and ship it to ya. For a small fee though.

Is this really Year of the Rooster? I was born in a rooster year and would love it if my daughter was a rooster as well. She was born earlier this month. Someone else said she was a Year of the Monkey so I just assumed that this year was a monkey year.

Chestnuts roasted by kittygirl @ 01/25/2005 05:23 AM EST

Chinese astrology doesn't change with the western New Year. It's still the year of the Monkey, it changes to Rooster February 9th, I believe. So the little Manimal is still a monkey, by a little bit. My sister was born 1990 just a few days before the end of snake, that's the only reason I even know such things...

Monkey: You are very intelligent and are able to influence people. An enthusiastic acheiver, you are easily discouraged and confused. Avoid Tigers. Seek a Dragon or a Rat.

Just wondering if you were able to get those comics that I sent? If not, I can try again, cause they are pretty damn cool!

Trajeal are you interested in a copy of the Corey Haim video? I think you would be! Email me and let me know, we can work something out off the blog!

Chestnuts roasted by kidneyboy @ 01/25/2005 06:35 PM EST

Oh, you crazy, crazy kidneyboy. Can you imagine the jealousy if I let a Corey Haim video into this house? Mr. Traj would divorce me in a minute. That sexy Haim-miester.

Actually, are there two Corey Haim videos? There's one that Matt reviewed, and then there's one w/ him pawning a ring. Or, is that the same video? Now I'll have to go search for Matt's review and see. The curiosity is killing me.
Have you watched Riding the Bullet yet? I plan on catching it tonight at 9. I had to miss it on Sunday b/c Carnivale was on at the same time. I'm curious, but I'm scared at the same time. How bad did they mangle it? Although, David Arquette makes a pretty good psycho. He has Manson Lamp eyes.

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 01/25/2005 08:04 PM EST

Yeah, Traj, there are two Haim vids. The one that Matt reviewed is the one I have. The one you found on eBay, I have no idea. I never heard of that one before. All I can say is that Matt's review is spot-on...but there is so much more to be experienced by actually seeing the video!! Yowza.

I am also planning on watching the movie tonight. Or at least taping it, so I can watch it later. My g/f wants to watch it too, so I might just wait until she gets home. I kind of like David Arquette, but you are right about the Manson eyes. He's got that stare down pretty nicely.

Honestly, I like that the Christmas layout is still up. It's the middle of one of the coldest winters I remember in a damn long while, so a "Christmas" that never ends makes everything a bit more tolerable, especially considering I shall have yet another lonely Valentine's Day.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Oscar nominees? I was surprised that Shark Tale got the token third nomination slot for Best Animated Feature instead of The Polar Express, but we all know that The Incredibles will take it all this year, and it bloody well better, since it's the best animated film I've seen in ages. I was disappointed that Shaun of the Dead, Napoleon Dynamite, and especially The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou didn't get nominated for anything, but, realistically, I didn't think they were going to get nominated for any Oscars outside of the parallel universe of my pipedreams. The Aviator is the best "conventional" Oscar film I've seen in ages, so I wouldn't mind seeing that take most of the awards for which it's nominated. I want to see at least Sideways before the end of February, though.

Hey Matt, I just read the new toyfare issue and I have to say that I was pretty happy to see the Transformers represented and given the respect they should have gotten.

One point though, on the Best Playability section (one section you sadly didn't contribute in), the Rnergon Shockblast figure does not have his back panels out. I should know this as I am holding mine right now, who happens to be one of my favorite figures in the Energon line right now. (the others beng Dreadwing, the recolored Mirage because he's the only one we got here in LI, and Megatron)

Oh and i'm an Aries for all you wondering lady type geeks out there ^_~

Ok, has anyone watched Riding the Bullet? All I have to say is - Woah. I am so used to having anything even remotely freaky spoiled by a show's trailer, but for this movie, I was pleasantly surprised by a few things. One major thing was, even though this was a made for tv movie, there was a lot of swearing. Swearing, that for the most part, was bleeped out. Except once. The part where Alan is standing in the road, talking to "himself" (ok, that doesn't really break it down - he spends half of the movie talking to himself), "himself" says to Alan, "Do you think you're fucking invincible?" W/ no bleeping. Maybe they missed it, maybe they wanted to drop one F bomb, I don't know. I do know that 'fuck' was said plenty of other times and promptly bleeped out (along w/ 'shit' and 'bitch', too, since this was USA and all). All in all, pleasantly shocked.

I used to love David Arquette in The Outsiders: the Series. He made an awesome Two-Bit Matthews. The guy was made to play psychos from the 60's. He carries the muttonchops and ducks ass hairdo perfectly.

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 01/26/2005 10:08 AM EST

YEAH! That movie rocked! For a made for TV movie on USA, that was a great flick. Besides that one fuck, I also heard one shit, so they maybe wanted to drop a couple of bombs...or maybe the censors were just getting high in the bathroom at that time.

I liked the part where Alan was on the Bullet with his dad in the seat next to him, that was great.

There was the scene where Alan was about to answer the phone in his room, and he said to himself, "You don't want to go to Toronto with Cheech and Chong here, do you?" or something along those lines...I don't think Cheech and Chong were around in 1969, were they? Hmmm.

But overall, I give it an A+. Stephen King movies on TV have a habit of sucking, but this one fought the tide. The special effects were actually pretty good, and I like the fact that there was swearing in the script, it just makes it seem more like you're reading the story; more like King would do it.

The ending was good, but why introduce the adult Alan for the last two minutes. It was kind of like Stand By Me, where they had Richard Dryfuss in for a split-second. Oh well, I will watch it again, so that says something right there!

Oh yeah, it's always nice to see Christine again, if only for a while!

Chestnuts roasted by kidneyboy @ 01/26/2005 10:57 AM EST

Congrats Manimal. As beautiful a babe as I've ever seen.
I saw Catwoman last night. Man-o-man was that a bad movie. It was hilarious though.

Chestnuts roasted by jhnnywalkr @ 01/26/2005 11:06 AM EST

Little Brother wants me to read Dreamcatcher, then watch the movie. Not the other way 'round, too painful. He'd rather I'd scream at the movie while I watch it, not while I'm reading the book. Is Christine the polar opposite of Herbie, the Love Bug?

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 01/26/2005 11:44 AM EST

Yeah, Christine is certainly not a Love Bug. More like a Hate Tank. Big, red '57 Plymouth Fury that can heal herself, drive around w/ no human behind the wheel, and possess anyone who owns her. So, not one you want to pick up at Danny's Used Car Lot.

Dreamcatcher was ok. I liked that they had Donnie Wahlberg (remember NKOTB?) play Duddits. Kinda funny that Donnie's little brother Marky Mark is now the more famous one in his family. Well, until one of his other 8 siblings lose thier marbles and become Boston's next serial killer (a la Corey Stayner, after his brother Stephen was kidnapped for 7 years and then returned to his family. Corey ended up kidnapping women and killing them in the mountains).

Tangents, tangents. I love my tangents.

I thought the ending w/ the older Alan was stupid. They should have just left well enough alone. Basically, after finally "riding the bullet", Alan grew up to become this ordinary adult who never let his fear of George Staub stand in his way of being... average. Not knowing that would have been better. I swear, though, SK needs a baby naming book or something. How many characters named George has he had now? George Staub, George Stark, George Denborough. There's been a few Jacks, too. Jack Torrance, Jack Sawyer, Jack Hogan (Chattery Teeth), Charlie Hogan, Lardass Hogan...

ANYway, that crow saying, "What the fuck are you looking at?" freaked my shit out. I did not expect it to talk. Then, when Alan's mother started squawking like the Cat Boy from The Grudge, I nearly jumped out of my skin. The bunny screaming made my stomach turn a bit. All in all, a good movie.

Hey Traj? Don't you mean a '58 Plymouth Fury? Hehehe wink The bird talking while eating the roadkill reminded me of The Talisman where the bird talked to Jacky on Arcadia Beach. I think it's funny how King incorporates his own universe throughout all the stories...the movie also referred to Castle Rock, which is not a real city, but a very integral one in the King universe.

Neo, why don't you try using the search box on the bottom of the main page and find some older articles to read while Matt is out in the real world. There are lots of great articles on the site that you can't see because the archives are not up and functioning...but they are still there.

My $.02? I like the Christmas motif!! Keep it up all year round for all I care. It's Matt that matters, not what the front page looks like. Y'all know he's got a (ahem) real job out there, so cut the master some slack. Yarr.

Chestnuts roasted by kidneyboy @ 01/26/2005 07:18 PM EST

Duh! Yeah, I should have known that. '57, '58 - hey, what's the difference? Don't answer that.

Nice suggestion on searching the archives. Actually, go back a few blogs and click on all of the links a few of us have posted of our favorite X-E articles, neo. Seriously, just pick one and then keep clicking "Next Entry" until you hit an article you like. That will hold you over.

Also, I love the Christmas motiff. Cuz, you know what? X-E = X-Mas in trajeal land. Although, I do like it when Matt posts a message in here (not necessarily a whole blog entry, just a message in an already written entry), just so we know he's ok and hasn't gone postal over there in the Nick offices. You never know what Spongebob is capable of. Speaking of, didn't you mention that you were working on some new stuff at work, Matt? I can't wait to hear about it.
