12/27/2004 Entry: "The Christmas Fallout, 2004!"

Hey, wanna know what I got for Christmas?

The fucking flu.  Woke up on Christmas Eve feeling that something wasn't quite right, tried to sleep it off, but midway through the festivities, it finally hit.  By midnight I was clocking a 102 degree temperature.  Christmas Day was spent, pretty much in its entirety, on a couch with a heating pad cursing the holidays.  Though I have to admit, the irony involved with me getting sick on Christmas after spending over a month writing about it and adoring it is pretty hilarious.  Anyway, that's why the Advent Calendar didn't wrap up until yesterday, and the flu was probably a big factor in why it wrapped up the way it did.  Meow.  Don't think of it as depressing.  After filming, the whole gang went for cinnamon martinis and made New Year's plans.

X-E blogger Dude McGuy sent word in that Christmas Crunch indeed returned for a 2004 run, and was nice enough to send in a few pictures -- click here and here.  For whatever reason, the stuff hasn't been sold around here for years, hence why I parted ways with a small fortune to obtain a sealed box from '88 for use in this old article.  The 2004 edition looks nice, with holiday shapes, and in a major blessing, the Cap'n didn't get all nondenominational along with the rest of the planet: he still calls it Christmas Crunch.  Remind me next year to bug one of you west coasty people for a box.

Another holiday season has come and gone, and I hope you've enjoyed the measly bits of tribute and coverage I was able to scrap together with the five seconds of free time I have each day.  Granted, it wasn't as much as I would've liked to do, but I did my best, and according to Santa, that counts for something.  Now, as has been a blog tradition over the past few years, here's a rundown of all the wonderful things I got for Christmas this year.  The woman and I spoil each other, and spent the rest of the winter cursing ourselves for blowing our bank accounts.  The grim realizations won't strike till January, so for now, I'm free to enjoy all my new toys without guilt.  Click "more" to see 'em, and feel free to post about your own Christmas hauls in the comments...

A 20 gig iPod, with detachable tuner to play it through speakers/car stereos, and an FM tuner so I can still listen to Stern on the way to work. My commute being akin to four hours worth of medieval torture every weekday of my life, an iPod was direly needed. And it's so cute.

Finally! Got the boxed set of TMNT DVDs -- the new series, so I can stop mouthing off about all the good things I've read about it and forge my own opinion. The three-disc set includes the first twelve episodes, plus four amazingly awesome Ninja Turtle figures. They're about half the size of those Toddler Turtles I reviewed a while back. Totally didn't know about the figures -- great little bonus.

More DVD fun -- another TMNT title, Christmas related, plus the entire first season of The Golden Girls, including the episode where Rose dates a midget, plus the episode where Sophia bitchslaps Parker Lewis' future right hand. Be it a shame best left unconfessed, this is the greatest show in the history of shows.

Pokemon LeafGreen for the GBA. A good seventy hours of Bulba-hunting eye-squinting ball-throwing superfun.

12" Roto-cast "Brain" figure from Gremlins 2. YES. I can't believe I didn't know about this. Brain is just as detailed as his posable action figure counterpart, but three times larger and heavy enough to crack a skull. I guarantee you I will still have this thing bedside when I'm 85. Even if I'm dead.

Oh yeah, it's the Complete Far Side Collection, a massive two book set containing every Far Side toon Larson's ever drawn, including never published rarities. I've wanted this set since it came out over a year ago, and even at the pretty inflated price, it's well worth it. One warning: the books are HEAVY. VERY HEAVY. Unlike most other FS books, these aren't good to curl up in bed with next to a bag of Cheetos.

Clothes, yo.

A gorgeous Gremlins snowglobe, and what's that? Yes indeed, it's a Slimer Headknocker. Both are from NECA, because they rule. Most of the toys featured here come from 'em.

I've been waiting for the new Ghostbusters figures for a while now, and they most certainly did not disappoint. Shown above are my two most wanted, Slimer and Gozer. Slimer glows and comes with assorted food accessories (including a turkey with removable drumsticks -- yes!), while Gozer comes with an alternate head and pair of hands. Unbelievable.

I completely fell off the Star Wars wagon over the past few years, at least in terms of junk collecting. Still, as soon as I saw the Mare Winningham-sized collection of too cute "Galactic Heroes," I was sold. Picked up two sets on Christmas, featuring some of the holy trilogy's top bounty hunters.

Here's one of the bigger items -- a life-sized "Tiffany" doll from Bride of Chucky. Haven't opened her up yet, but according to the box, she talks! I haven't decided what to do with Tiffany yet, but come on...whatever it is, you know it'll be magnificent.

Pretty much the only thing I explicitly asked for this Christmas: the giant NECA Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. It's taken twenty years for us to get a decent Stay Puft figure, or at least one moderately to scale against all of our other toys. Heinz was right -- good things come to those who wait. Ketchup.

One of my brothers is some kind of fucked up scientist who works at a lab on Mars or something. He's worked there for years and years, and during my youth, he'd often bring me home piles of "magnetic marbles" from the lab's gift shop. (yes, the lab has a gift shop) Somehow remembering my eternal love for attracted marbles, he delivered a new batch this year. They're just as great as I remember.

The Encyclopedia of Animals is 67,000,000 pages long. I think I'll be done with it by tomorrow night. I love this book.

Oh, looks like I forgot to take a picture of it, but also in the pile of gifts was a motion activated 18" Michael Myers figure, really high end. Just thought I'd mention it.

Okay, let's wrap this up -- they've re-released several of the vintage 12" Star Wars figures. I of course wanted Boba Fett. It's not a 100% genuine replica of the version sold back in '78 or whatever year it was, but it's close and it'd purdy. Secondly, another Stay Puft appearance, this time in bobblehead form.

Lastly, wine, and cookbooks that often call for wine.

Time to go take more pills and dig my face into a heating pad. Later...

I'd like to say that the iPod was the best one, but I'd be fooling myself and the horde of dwarfs that clean my toilet.

I dare say the best gift is the Gremlins Snowglobe...

thanx for the wonderful gift you gave us little freak smile

Third Post! My best ever! My son/daughter will be proud when he/she can read this (five years from now, but hey...I don't sweat the small stuff!)

P.S. Man, you think if I say I'll name the kid X-E or Matt it will be a boy?

Matt,

I've lurked your website for a couple years now. Thanks for helping make the holidays (and of course I mean Halloween too) a little brighter for all of us. Sorry to hear about your flu.

PS: EMajorwitz where are you stationed?

Looks like you got a pretty good haul. Lotsa cool stuff in there. You beat my holiday. Best thing I got was a Dodgeball DVD that came with an Average Joe's t-shirt. But, I managed to give a bunch of gifts people actually really liked, and were actually thoughtful things they could use, so all in all, a good Christmas. Of course your advent and advert calendars helped keep the Christmas spirit strong in me, so job well done and take a break. Hope you get well soon. I've been sick myself with what was once the world's worst cold and is now a nagging cough coupled with bouts of laryngitis, so I feel ya.

Wow, you got the Destructor! And a talking Tiffany. If you recall, I once suggested listening to The Wall while in the throes of a high fever. You can try it now, and tell us how it went. Otherwise, stay home as much as possible, we wouldn't want Nickleodeon to get wiped out due to epidemic. But you might want to sneeze all over eMpTy Vee.

You did a great job on the advent calander, I hope next year's is even better, it was some good stuff.

Nice haul Matt. Christmas isn't Christmas unless you get toys and booze. Stay bundled up, and when you get better, check your email. I sent you something regarding Christmas Crunch.

Matt, when I read the last entry on the Advent calendar I cackled until tears were coming down my cheeks. The shot with the frozen glass of water tickled me, as did the pimp daddy outfits on the wise men. But the things that cracked me up the most were the shots of the cat. Hilarious! Especially the kind of out-of-focus one. I hope you feel better soon. I mangaged to avoid Xmas illness this year, but I've been there many times. Thanks for another great holiday season.

Sorry to hear about your flu, Matt. My dad's coming down with it himself, actually. At least you got a decent haul of gifts this year, though. That should make up for it a little.

I got some good shit myself. A cell phone, the Star Wars DVD Trilogy, Return of the King Extended DVD (now I have 'em all!), WWE Smackdown vs. Raw for PS2, Clerks X DVD, beer, George Carlin's "Napalm and Silly Putty", and a bunch of clothes and giftcards yo! What did the rest of ya'll get?

Matt,
I'm sorry to hear you got sick. My boyfriend also had some kind of flu/virus or something and our Christmas day plans were for naught. What made it worse was that we were at his aunt and uncle's when he wasn't feeling well and there's nothing worse than being sick in someone else's house or while you're on vacation so be lucky you were home. Hope you feel better soon and hope New Year's Eve festivities are more fun for us both!!

12" brain Gremlin? Why can't I find one of those? Anyway, what I got:
-shaolin soccer(haven't watched it yet, but looks promising).
-a "Paul" figure based off "the Beatles" 60's saturday morning cartoon. Why there isn't a dvd set of that yet is beyond me.
-a "mayor" figure from nightmare before christmas. love that spinning head feature.
-record player. Now I can finally listen to my copies of "The Greatest American Hero" theme and "Billy and the Boingers".

"You make me sick(Tuba solo)... But I luuuuv you".

Wow, you were sick and you still lugged your camera around and finished the Advent calander? You like us! You really, really like us!

You did get away w/ quite a steal. Was everything from you g/f, or were some of those things from family? She must loooo-ooove you, to let you bring home some of that stuff. Esp. the BIG stuff. Although, that Bride of Chucky doll is pretty sweet. Does she need batteries, or do you plug her right into the wall? Your commute is 2 hours each way? Man, that would suck. I bet the cost of living isn't worth it to move, though, huh? Besides, who wants to pack up all that stuff?

The Mini Traj's made out pretty well this year. The older two got RC Zip Zap cars (Hulk and Spiderman) w/ track, Shrek 2 and Mario Party 6 for the GC, I Spy and Pinball for the PC, a Knight and Dragon Little People set for the Littlest Traj, some Care Bears figurine sets and some Polly Pockets. They're so spoiled. Mr Traj got Warcraft for the PC and a new Patriot's coat. For me, the best stuff came in small packages - Dazed and Confused, Special Edition, The Best of Christopher Walken on SNL and Carnivale, Season One. I also got a GC to Michaels' Craft Store, which may not be exciting to any of you guys, but I was thrilled. I've been waiting to get some ne charcoals, drawing pad and kneaded eraser since before the holidays, and now I actually can. Yay, me!

Most of my presents were more "practical" than fun, but you decide...

New light, spring coat
Poncho made for me by my mother, who is a fantastic knitter - it looks and feels great
Scarf made for me by my sister, also a fantastic knitter (and much appreciated, as it's made out of that thick chenile yarn and it suddenly got down to 30 below here in South New Jersey)
The Soundtrack to "Chicago"
Gift Certifcate to K-Mart (don't laugh - it's the only really decent place to shop here)
"I Love Lucy" ornament
Folksy-looking angel ornament
A teapot that makes tea from loose tea from my sophisticated sister who lives near Philadelphia
A very much-needed new VCR from my stepfather (the old one was almost seven years old and kept shutting itself off after I'd rewind anything and took ages to rewind even a half-hour tape)
Pillows for my new couch
A new retro-styled magnet
Nice, soft Land's End turtleneck (green, to match the poncho)
Two bags of dried cranberries (I worship those - snacks of the Gods)
Jars of Knott's Berry Farm Jams in a decorative basket (the latter now holds my remote controls)
A cute stuffed bear ormanent "from" my baby nephew (actually, his mother made it)
Perfume from my landlady
Micky Dolenz's book "I'm a Believer" and assorted Monkees paraphenalia from an online friend
A huge stuffed bear from my closest co-worker
More ornaments and candy from other co-workers
A bag of gourmet gingerbread muffin mix from my college friend

Matt, I commend you. You're sick, you probably couldn't even go to your family's big to-do, and here you are, finishing the Advent Calender for us. You are one of the great men on this Earth. I hope you feel better in time to celebrate the New Year in a far happier way than you did Christmas.

Great Advent finale, Matt! Must have been hard getting your cat to cooperate. My friends took me out for sushi for my birthday and I couldn't help being reminded of Mare and her Stormtrooper friends' adventure with sushi...and Waiterbot. Plus Yaz was playing in the background.

*drool* That animal book looks awesome! I'd have to find me one of those! As well as a dinosaur encyclopedia. My roommate's girlfriend has one that's pretty cool, but it's 10 years old.

Thanks for another crazy advent calendar, Matt! Nice haul too.

For one in a family of four kids (well, I'm 20 now, but nothing has really changed) I made out pretty sweet. Hell, we all did. I got:
-Ninja Turtles Mighty Beanz in my stocking, the highlights being Raphael and Hamato Yoshi, and the other 3 I really didn't know. Haven't seen but a couple of the new shows.
-Simpsons Season 5 DVD, now we have 1, 3, and 5, but no 2 or 4 for some reason.
-Serpico and Scarface on DVD. I saw The Godfather for the first time this year, and I've been on a Pacino kick lately.
-"A Day Without A Mexican" on DVD. Living in Southern California, I know I'll appreciate this one.
-Hot Wheels, which I picked out earlier.
-A little battery powered car that will follow a thick black line on a piece of paper. It's pretty awesome.
-Most Importantly: A NINTENDO DS with Sega's FEEL THE MAGIC. "Rub it!"

Sweet Haul there Matt! wish i could say the same, but last few years we've been downplayin X-Mas. Last good one we had was with my grandfather...who died the following June :'( anyhow, my haul was as follows: Money, Spongebob boxers, Bruce Campbell vs The Army Of Darkness Bootleg Edition on DVD and a bunch of Charlie Brown stuff, which included 2 snoopy piggy banks (one from the 60's or 70's) a CB pez despenser, an old peanuts bed sheet...not sure how old it is, and part of an old Hallmark promotion for Peanuts..from i think 80's..pretty good, eh? Of course my oldest Peanuts thing is a snoopy Playskool puzzle from the 50's big grin

Anyhow, hope you get better Matt and continue to turn out the great articles, etc that we readers/ family members read on this site!

Hope you feel better soon. I've been coveting that Brain fig, but I wouldn't be able to sleep with it in the room, let alone on the bedside table.
I already mentioned that I picked up season 1 of Carnivale and Arrested Development (hadn't seen much of this; I'm loving it) and season 2 of Boy Meets World; I also got The Triplets of Belleville and the first discs of Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Bernie Mac Show (used DVDs). I also got some book covers, a Baby Phat purse, a couple of books and a booklight. My Boy Meets World DVD comes with a coupon to get $10 off the Golden Girls, so I may treat myself to a little New Year's gift...

Hey Matt - sorry to heart about your lack of health. Luckily, I was blessed with a bullet-proof immune system, resulting in never getting sick.

Remember when I talked about my lackluster 1.0MP clunker of a digicam? Well Santa brought me a brand new, 4.0MP Canon Powershot A85. This thing RULES.

When I get back to Pittsburgh, I'll have tons and tons of pics to post. So everyone check my picture blog after the New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

You get a cold because of the ipod!! I would kill my most loved family member for one!! I asked for one for my birthday and my Grandma thinks it's too expensive but she got my sister a HP photosmart digital camera for christmas so go figure.

My haul, my haul...
My Grandma paid for gas money, it's a 3 and a half hour drive so I HAD to have it but that's still pretty cool.
I got hitman contracts for xbox, simpsons season 5 on dvd, a 12 inch mega muppet gonzo with this weird dark pink suit on which I didn't ask for, a simpsons bookmark that says 'I am disrupting the learning process and I love it', a homer decal of him going 'oooo' a pair of simpsons boxer shorts that say 'deck the homer' homer is asleep, and bart is putting christmas lights on him and what not, two pull over fleece shirts, red and blue, two black t-shirts, one says 'do you know what your problem is? your stupid' and the second one says 'if you stare at me long enough i might do a trick' surprisingly enough when i held them up both my grandma and grandad got a kick out of them!! And nice hanes socks, the ones with the grey on the toes and heels, i got a pack of them once and then really wanted a couple more packs, a cord so i can hook up my portable dvd player to a tv.

I got my cousins whom I love dearly a gift bag of candy (sour apple carmel suckers, smarties, cert mints, wintergreen altoids, and a crispy chocolate santa wrapped in foil) two happy bunny stickers, one of them got a desk calender sports illustrated (girls!! I joked that is his dream come true, having a new girl on his desk everyday, and then he said if they want to be there, then he doesn't mind, weird kid) and two of them got keychains the girl got 'I may be a bitch but I am the pick of the litter!' and one of the boys got 'my state bird is the finger' I got the new girl of the family a stuffed baby pooh with a rattle in it, really cute, which was the most expensive looking gift she got which was funny it being only 7 bucks.

I got my oldest sister a clearance priced ($5.50, originally a long time ago $29.99) what they call 'friends party kit' with a sample of coffee, coasters, trivia cards, recipe cards, 7 'party' episodes dvd, a cd of 'party' songs from episodes, and a serving tray, she loved it. I also got my two aunts, because on thanksgiving they were talking about drinking lol a 6 piece set of wine charms according to the box, so you can always keep track of your drink at parties, and the other one got pretty much the same thing but beer bottle charms, now that I think about it, how can you remember yours was the 'apple' charm when your plastered unless that's the one you always use...hmmmm thought for the ages I guess

Kuse was the best. Loved him! Thanks for the yearly fun with Playmobil, Matt. I'll never look at it the same again as I straighten the boxes in my section of TRU.

Wow, an IPod. I want one too! But, for now, I have a Nintendo DS. That was my "big" Giftmas present. I also got 2 games to go with it, Intelligent Qube for PS1 (it's 1997, very hard to find and is also out of print!) Northern Exposure season 2 DVD, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Cowboy Bebop Session 3 (completes my collection) I also got a Nightmare Before Christmas Art book, an Origami Kit, a pretty little crystal block with a fairy scene etched into it with a laser. a set of wooden Nesting Dolls, and ... oh, Barbie dressed as Galadriel. smile I think that's about it. A few other odds and ends, is all.

Matt- I am very jealous of your Xmas, mostly the Gremlins and Ghostbusters stuff! Thanks so much for finishing the calender for us, while sick with the flu- you ARE the spirit of Xmas.

My folks shipped excellent gifts to me in Korea, mostly DVDs:
-Star Wars Trilogy
-Harry Potter 3
-Shrek 2
-The Care Bears Movie
-Little Monsters (Fred Savage- oh yeah! Matt, u should review this one)
-The Lion King trilogy from the boyfriend
-Guns N Roses Greatest hits on CD
AND....both "A Christmas Story" AND "Muppet Family Xmas" on DVD- next years Xmas will be much sweeter with those on DVD instead of old, worn out VHS.

Thanks for another great advent adventure Matt!! Really got me in the holiday spirit. Working in retail showed me that some people are definately on the bad list, and around here there are a lot of them. All my coworkers are really nice and easy to get along with, but the customers can be a pain at times. Some people have NO respect.

Little more on topic, I got my roll away tool cart that i wanted from my parents, and some little doodads and stuff. I got one of those arcade games that plugs into the tv that has 5 classic namco games in it. Pretty sweet actually. Pacman, dig dug, galaxian, rally-x, and bosconian. Of course I got a few gift cards and candies/foodstuffs as well. One gag gift I got was a DVD of Hammy the Hamster, a childrens show from canada that features live action Rodents and Radio controled vehicles. Pretty cool if you like rodents and rc cars, which I do big grin

Harry- I'm not in the military anymore, as I did my four years in the Marines and I was done. My wife won't let me go back, not that I miss all the running at the crack of dawn every morning.

Speaking of my wife...My wife however, is a first grade teacher for DoDDS and we are "stationed" in Germany. Love it here except for having a small kitchen, no garage, and no central air in the summer (dreading it already).

In case anyone wanted to know my haul, check the previous blog entry. You can read all about my pink hell.

So nobody thinks I can guarantee a boy if I named it with initials X and E (For X-E of course) or Matt (the God of waxing nostalgic)?

Man Matt you got a mother load of Christmas stuff. Aside from clothes and the usual Christmas stuff I am most proud of these two items:

1. Spongebob Squarepants Folder featuring SBSP decked out in Oi punk gear with him flipping the English equivalent of the bird. How it got past the censors I will never know.

2. Glen/Glenda life size doll. He doesn't talk but he is cute and one heck of a weapon if I so choose.

Hope yr New Year is Great.

Feel better soon, you don't want to be miserable on New Year's! Matt, I got my son a horde of those Galactic Heroes for Christmas this year too, but the best gift of all? The Hasbro toddler sized Millenium Falcon. Oh. My. God. It came with the Galactic Hero Chewbacca, Hans Solo, C-3PO and a bonus Storm Trooper. And IT TALKS! The hyper drive breaks down and you can fix it, and there's a little table to play super cosmic chess if you want to. I'm living la vida vicarious.

Mars, no, it's not just you. Most of my friends made out better than a pirate in a Disney movie this year, while I'm shaking my head and wondering why Santa skipped me. Musta been worse than I thought. One of my friends bought his wife a car for Christmas. It was used, so on the surface it would seem he was being practical, right? But he paid for an airline ticket and FLEW her mother to Texas to drive it back (to Alabama). The hell?

Chestnuts roasted by G4L @ 12/28/2004 03:18 PM EST

I think I've posted on here, like, once. A long time ago.

I had a middle-income Christmas too. Here's what it entailed:

-A huge set of makeup that came from Walmart, which was one of my better presents
-A set of purple sheets
-Two shirts
-A nightshirt and a set of pajamas
-A towel (wtf?) from my aunt
-A set of silk scarves (again, wtf)
-A medical book (one of the other good presents)
-A checkbook clutch even though I never write checks
-A neat looking purse
-A cheap but shiny watch
-Some candy
-A pants suit exactly like one I got last year from the same person
-$20 that I'll probably end up spending on gas and fast food

So overall I got a dull "hey you're a grown woman so you must be boring now" Christmas, made even more tedious by the fact that my little brother got well over $100 worth of the newest toys and my boyfriend got a turntable and assorted other DJ gear. At least I had the advent calendar to cheer me up. Thanks Matt!

Hey Matt, thanks for the awesome X-E X-Mas '04 Edition and sorry you're feeling under the weather. I'm jealous of all that great loot you got! My best present was, of course, the engagement ring my honey presented me with on Christmas Eve (in front of my whole family, no less). But the weirdest gift I got was the stuffed possum- yes, possum- my brother gave me. I thought to myself, I must be the only person in America who unwrapped a stuffed possum for Christmas. Yes, my brother does have a very warped sense of humor. Last year, he gave me a harmonica, a set of Lee Press-on Nails, and a "Little Miss Lovely Cosmetics Set" (the kind that will turn any little girl into either an a) deranged circus clown, or b)a pre-pubescent whore). Fortunately, he sends the "good gifts" at New Year's. This year, I'm expecting some cool Beatles stuff.

Hello everyone!

Sorry if it doesn't seem like I care about your health Matt, but do get well soon. I felt bad that I was babbling about gifts and babies while you were lying on your deathbed.

I still guess people think I can't rig the sex of my future bundle of joy by naming it after you or the website, but hey, can't fault me for trying.

Yes, I do love it here on X-E. I stumbled upon this site while I was stationed in Okinawa with the Marines and have loved it ever since. Like trajeal, it is one of the few websites I look at. X-E, Wrestlecrap, ESPN, Newgrounds, I-Mockery, and Homestarunner are my favorites.

Off-topic to Jillybeann:

You have to apply online and be willing to live anywhere in the world. We had pretty much given up on it when out of the blue at our wedding shower they were like, "Hey, wanna go work in Germany?" Hell yeah! Her ex husband didn't want to live overseas (kinda weird since he was born in England and is Irish) and forbid her to apply. I guess that is why he is the ex! smile Actually, its more than that, but I won't get into the gory details...sad

Wife also says Graduate work helps. They are very child-centered. Having lived overseas before, myself and the wife weren't too culture shocked, but I'm still working on learning German so I can order at a place other than on base or at McDonalds.

This is the first year for my wife teaching in DoDDs though it probably helped that she is a DoDDs brat, having lived in and attended DoDDs in Germany and Japan. Her mom is with DoDDs as a school nurse, this being her 21st year.

Who doesn't want Lakenheath? (my wife included, though I'm not wild about moving again having deployed with the Marines and now with her, plus I like Germany). My wife says people literally have to die to get into England.

Hope that helps. May I ask how long you are teaching and why the interest in Lakenheath?

Semper Fi,
Erik Majorwitz

Old standby possum name: Pogo.
If he's going to be a dining room centerpeice, then name him after your favorite TV chef, or fancy restaurant. What the name of the chairman on Iron Chef? Kaga? Or, if he's mantle-bound, maybe a real snotty upper-crust name. Emerson Whittington Possum, of the east coast Possums.

That's quite a haul there, Matt. Since I live in a space-challenged apartment and cannot afford superfluous (yet killer) items to make me feel even more claustraphobic, I requested money and only money.

The main reason for this is on account of numerous friends getting married in the spring. So, without that monetary help, I would be strapped with not only gifts, but travel and lodging for those weddings I decide to go to. It's enough to make me wonder why I've made so many freaking friends in my life and why they all have to get married at the same time! To my engaged friends: "Hey kids, you're 25,... there's plenty of time for that later!"

Chestnuts roasted by Nachokhaki @ 12/29/2004 05:39 PM EST

Not that I'm calling your stash superfluous... I just literally have nowhere to put anything in my apartment! In the past Christmases, my mother would get me various odds and ends and I would have to leave them at my parents' place. She tired of that quickly, so a check is all I see now.

Well, Sis has told us she herself doesn't need anything because she's comin' home in about a month or so, but any kind of powdered drink mixes are very popular among soldiers. (Water being a bit on the chemically-treated side. blorgh.) Snacks like Cheez-its, beef jerky, sugar-free gums and candy, most kinds of snack crackers. They already have a lot of lotions, soaps, shampoos and the like. Check with your local military HQs for a comprehensive list, including what not to send. Batteries for Walkmans and hand-held games are welcome. Since Sis is Quatermaster Corps, she has a good idea whats popular in comfort foods. When Letterman taped his X-mas Eve show Friday, she got to be there. When the network shows the episode, she'll be off to one side, her and her buddies, sitting on a golf-carty kind of vehicle. She's one of the oldest in her unit, two years older than me. I won't know how easy she is to spot til I see the show. Not bad for someone who's died once already. Go Sis!

Sorry to hear about your flu. You know, I'm beginning to think those medieval "doctors" weren't that far off when they said illnesses were caused by gnomes living inside you. Those nasty sicknesses have to be mystical in some way.

Anyway, nice Christmas haul, and thanks for another year of advents. However, I'm still trying to decipher the Lego pirate hiding in the background of one of the pics on the 25th. There has to be some kind of secret meaning!

Later!

100th post!

Well, that makes me feel better about the fact the even though you got the flu, you go hundred's of dollars worth of gifts for Christmas. All I got was a sweater from my grandma from Sears and, oh yeah, it didn't fit. I guess the flip side is I didn't buy anything for anyone, so I guess it's all fair, and I'll be a lot happier when the credit card bill rolls around in January

That's what Christmas is all about... wanting something and getting it, all within the same second. Best feeling in the world.

I may rob your house for that Brain... don't know, depends on how much gas I got.

Matt cheated when he was doing the Advent Calender. IT SAID WHAT EACH PRESENT WAS ON THE BACK OF THE BOX!

Pfft. Christmas is supposed to be about suprises.

Damn dude....all i got for christmas was some money, socks, underwear, and some pants....but its all good because you can never have too much of any those items mentioned above. You know i have to concur that golden girls is a great show, although i think they paid the audience to laugh after every spoken line by Estelle Getty. The show Amen had a similar problem with the character Rolly (the old dude). I wouldn't be suprised if both shows were created/written by the same person also considering they debuted around the same time ont he same network. You just gotta love the token "shock value" old person...

Hey, I didn't know where else to post this, but I am in dire need of the old talkboy commercial! My band needs the audio of "Hey kids, we're home early!" and the "Stop drooling on me!" to sample at the beginning of a track on our new CD. If anyone can help, please contact me. squealymonkey@hotmail.com

Have to say this and get the bad stuff out of the way. I can't say I'm all that happy with the Calendar's ending. I won't say I was offended, but the thought of our Savior, God's son, being "replaced" with a reformed Mare just bothers me from a religous perspective. Sorry, personal bias. I will, however, miss Kuse.

I'm also sorry to hear you were sick for Christmas. I'm going to be sick for New Years. Ah, well, another year before my first New Years' Kiss, I guess. Wish me luck in 2005/6.

As for my Christmas haul
-Shreck 2 (Wal*Mart edition, with the special CD
-Spider-Man 2
-Energon Shockblast
-A couple MegaMan NT Warrior figures (sadly, not the PET to use with the battlechips)
-clothes
-candy
and money and giftcards that are all but spent. Plans include Omega Sentinel, a new computer chair, and the Daft Punk animated movie "Seven Star Squadron", if it's out yet.

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Drink mixes, check. Snacks like peanuts and sunflower seeds, dried soup mixes, slim jims, Sweet N Low, gum, tictacs, hot cocoa, check. Magentic travel games and a 500 piece puzzle, check. Muscle rub cream, chap stick, microwaveable hot compress, tissues, batteries, tooth floss, socks, oragel, Ziploc bags, check. Think that's enough for a first care package? I don't want to send too much and weigh the guy/girl down.

Y2JB78, My Soldier info is here: https://www.mville.edu/mysoldier/faq.htm. I have no idea who I picked until after I send the package and then hear back from him/her, since the original correspondence goes to a Point of Contact first. I'm getting excited, though. :-)

My x-mas pretty much stunk gift wise. I dare say I get most people better gifts than they get for me. But, that's how it goes. Just wanted to say thanks Mat for another year of x-mas goodness. You may think it's corny, but I look forward to your posts more and more each year!

Dude, did EVERYONE get sick on Christmas? Same thing happened to me. Ah well. At least I, too, received an iPod with which to while away the flu-ridden hours. Let us know what you end up doing with the life-sized Tiffany-- I don't think I'd be able to sleep with that thing sitting in the corner of my room, but maybe that's just due to a long-ago traumatic experience I had with a marionette as a youngster... Cheers!

....and good disposable razors. The razors that get distributes are of so-so quality. those of us who shave know how the quality can effect the experience of scraping hair off of our bodies.

trajeal's a chick, by the way.

My Christmas haul was ridiculously huge this year - but because I got stuff from my mom and stepdad, my dad and stepmom, and my bf's parents, and some of the stuff were joint gifts. I'd have to say that the cream of the crop for my stash were:
- The entire first Simpsons trading card series in mint condition.
- Swarovski 2004 ornament(I've been collecting them for a few years, to go along with my approx. $1200 Hummell ornament set).
- The book "Mental Hygene", all about social guidance classroom films from the '40s to the '70s.
- Fom Pillow(squishy squishy).
- Butt/Face towel.
- Money and gift cards coming out the wazoo.
- My intelligence being insulted by my bf's mother, yet again(whoops, wrong list).
