That was a pretty nice spot.

Well, I know for a fact that we at least get a shot of doll nips.
When I woke up this morning, if someone had asked me my plans for the future, typing the words "doll nips" wouldn't have even cracked the top ten.
Seeing 2 different $10+ Spongebob impulse buys at the register at 7-11 made me realize how deep the invasion had reached, but I'm holding onto my pocket money at least until the movie comes out, since I figure that's when they'll throw out all the really funk cross promos. Can't wait.

That makes me wish my tv didn't break in the move
no Nick. *sigh*
Can't wait for Bride of Chucky either!

Matt-Dude, why on Earth would they have a problem with you distributing a commercial? All you're doing is expanding their audience to that which is outside of Nickelodeon. You're giving them a larger audience for free. I don't see how they would have a problem with something like that.
Unless they're just really anal. Such is the reason why a lot of logos are not shown in movies and TV shows. Aparently there ARE some legal issues that come into play. Yeah, I guess it's better if you look before you leap, because the last thing I want is for you to get your ass kicked out of Nick.

We're looking forward to seeing Seed of Chucky this weekend.
I'd also like to see the Nick/Sponge/Bk commercial Matt.
We don't get Nick here.
Chestnuts roasted by Croww @ 11/10/2004 10:59 PM EST
any chance we'll see an ad campaign someday with sly nods to that crazy ass old david lynchian zelda commerical with the dude yelling about tektites and moblins?

Wow! Someone else actually uses the term "boinking" as a euphemism for sex besides this one college teacher I've got for a semester. I thought she was alone, truly...
Yeah, I'd like to see the spot if you can get it up. And I've got a good question for the Pop Arena guy when he inevitably comes around to post here: how can you have such fond memories of the 80's Nickelodeon and despise Nicktoons if you are YOUNGER THAN ME?? You just turned 20; I am 22 and I loved Nicktoons. Of course, I also loved the 80's stuff. I was at just the right age to get the best of both worlds. I don't know how you even remember the 80's stuff at all, barring lots and lots of old videotapes. How can you even remember the pinball logo? That's even before my time.
Chestnuts roasted by Mars @ 11/11/2004 01:24 AM EST
Mars, I read that as "How can you even remember the pinwheel logo?" and thought SWEEEET! Someone besides me remembers Pinwheel on PBS! 'Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around...'
And then I read more carefully. Damn.
Chestnuts roasted by Emily @ 11/11/2004 03:17 AM EST
Congrats on all of your success with Nickelodeon. If I was within 2,000 miles of a TV with cable I would love to see the commercial. Say "hi" to Marc Sommers for me. Im sure he's busy mopping up a bathroom somewhere over there.
Chestnuts roasted by pulseczar @ 11/11/2004 04:50 AM EST
Spongebob watches sell themselves. Its just too bad that you are only now breaking even after buying a couple hundred dollars worth of Spongebob Pop Tarts and yogurt.
Chestnuts roasted by chocoholic @ 11/11/2004 04:55 AM EST
God, I miss Nickelodeon- SNICK used to rock my world....I guess it's ok that I don't have Nick anymore- I kind of lost interest after Ren and Stimpy left the air, the gang from Roundhouse turned 40, and Pete and Pete grew facial hair. I guess I miss the OLD Nick.
Chestnuts roasted by Muppet Baby @ 11/11/2004 06:01 AM EST
Maybe it's something that only in English I'd grasp, but I HATE Spongebob. The missus wants me to take her to see the movie, come Christmas, and I'm fighting it with every fiber in my being. Then again, like I said, maybe its appeal is lost on the dubbing.
As for the Chuckster, Child's Play is probably my favorite "horror" franchise, right up there with Halloween. I never really got into Freddy or Jason. So yeah, I can barely wait for Seed of Chucky. Unfortunately, gots to wait until Christmas as well. Blah. Anyways, it seems this one will have the same tone as Bride of Chucky, and although I liked that one, I don't care much for Chucky's scarred look, I'd rather have him back to his Good Guy days. There are more chances for a psyche out that way.
Chestnuts roasted by Roddy @ 11/11/2004 07:11 AM EST
Hey, I've seen that commercial. The one where you can wear the watch four different ways, right? Next time I catch it, I'll have to pay special attention. Wow, that is so cool that you get to write ad spots for Nick. I've been waiting for the update when you let us know which ads they are.
Mr. Trajeal is taking the kids to see Spongebob next weekend. He wants to miss the opening weekend rush. Speaking of the Mini Traj's, I was telling them about the Sears Wishbook last night and they were practically drooling. That really sucks that they don't send that out anymore. I hate that the only influence they get on what to want from Santa is from the commericals they see everyday, and not from the cool "less advertised" stuff that can also be found out there. We already have one of the Luv Cubs (We bought it when it was $35, and the next week it was marked down to $23. Grr!), a Water Baby and some Polly Pockets. What else is there?

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/11/2004 09:18 AM EST
Hey, Matt, I got a tape from what I think is 1992. It contains:
Specials:
-Winnie The Pooh and Christmas Too
-Frosty The Snowman
-The Wish That Changed Christmas*
-Twas the Night Before Christmas
-A Wish For Wings That Worked (starring the characters of Bloom County)
*This one's interesting because it's presented in "McDonald's Storytime" in which Ronald McDonald is reading two Fry Guys a book.
Movies:
-A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version)
Commercials:
I haven't watched the tape in a year, so I don't remember every commercial but here it goes.
-McDonalds. A little girl runs away from home and Ronald McDonald convinces the girl that she's done a lot of cool things and she goes back home.
-Scary Muppet dogs advertising candy.
-Santa Claus pulling into a gas station to grab a coke.
-Promo ads for Home Alone 2.
-The 7-Up dots making a bottle of 7-Up out of an ice block (7-Up, the Uncola!)
That's all I recall. You interested?

Hell yeah Mr. Mr. -- send me an e-mail and we'll talk!
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/11/2004 09:53 AM EST
Huh, I used to watch Nickelodeon all the time... *sighs* But that was BEFORE they started to suck... now I might catch an episode of Spongebob or Fairly Odd Parents once in a while but only when there is absolutely nothing else on... I mean NOTHING.
But just for you Matt, maybe I'll sacrifice a few hours to catch the commercial. Just for you.
...
...
...
I don't care about the Spongebob movie and I don't care about Bride of Chucky. I'm still hyped over the Incredibles, but then, my major is animation so that's the sort of thing I appreciate extensively.
...
I really have nothing else to say.
Chestnuts roasted by Sucrose @ 11/11/2004 10:04 AM EST
If you ever had a vhs tape I swear you have to have that commercial of the little girl running away and ronald mcdonald telling her to go home because of mcdonalds food( who the fuck stops running away from home because of McDies!! hell you aught to be running away if thats the only good thing at your house)... you might not know where the tape is or how it got on there, but its there...the commercial was played so damn much, and it wa more of less a stupid commercial
Chestnuts roasted by LordSorrow @ 11/11/2004 12:45 PM EST
Roddy,
It's not you, I too am anti-Spongebob. I don't get the whole thing with that show or it's characters...to me Patrick the "Star fish" looks like a big penis with trunks to me. Only time I ever watched it at all (because my sister is into it thank you) is when spongebob and Patrick get dried out and they use an actual photo of a sponge and starfish..I thought that was kind of funny....too bad they didn't stay that way.

Trajeal... I got the Sears Wishbook this year... All you have to do is go on-line at www.sears.ca and request one to be sent to your house. If you order from them they will send you all the catalogues automatically, including (drool) the Wishbook.
Matt, I have a whole bunch of Beta tapes from late 80's, mostly original broadcats of Star Trek The Next Generation. There has to be some cool ads in there, but I'm not sure I can copy them to VHS. I will email you about TMNT.

Hey Matt I have something you would probably want. It's the really belated sequel to the infamous Charlie Brown Christmas special called It's Christmastime Charlie Brown. This came out in 1992 and was distributed at Shell gas stations in the Cleveland area for a special price when you bought a certain amount of gas or something. To be honest I don't remember ever watching this so the tape is in mint condition. Interested?
Chestnuts roasted by phunqsauce @ 11/11/2004 06:23 PM EST
Sucrose--your major is animation?? That's awesome, because it's a field I'm interested in entering. I haven't seen the Incredibles yet, but I've been waiting all year for its release. It's the number one movie on my list to see.

Pinwheel! Man, I hated that show when I was a kid. I was more interested in the Great Space Coaster.
Gary Gnu rocked... the rest of the show was kinda gay, in hindsite.
Hmmm. And thank you EMajotwitz, and happy Veterans Day to you, Zombone and everyone else.

3.Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas

I have that special too--the "new" Charlie Brown one. They only aired it once and never again. Of all the specials made from stitched-together strips, it was one of the better ones.

Somewhere in my room, I have THE elite X-Entertainment tape EVER:
The "36th" Annual WWF Slammy Awards...loaded with irreverent inanities of awards and Hacksaw Jim Duggan wearing a printed tux shirt, it was luckily taped around Christmastime. I don't remember what Christmas commercials there are, but I do remember:
-TV spot for "Eddie Murphy Raw"
-Burger King Christmas ad
-Christmas caroling promos
-Other inanities. There's an X-E worthy part from the special too where Hacksaw and I forget who else started throwing each other around a catering hall. Too funny to describe.
By the way, in addition, I'm writing a feature article about you in journalism class. I'd love to see if I could get a nice quote from you.

"Pinwheel, pinwheel
spinning around
Look at my pinwheel and
see what I've found."
"Pinwheel, pinwheel

Spin me good morning and
spin me goodnight."
Sorry, I just really miss the old Nick shows: Pinwheel, You Can't Do That on Television, Today's Special, Welcome Freshman, Fifteen, even Bill Cosby's Picture Pages. Sigh...

I think the end all of Christmas Commercials, sans the Fruity Pebbles Christmas, is the Honey Nut Cheerios one. Boy did that bee put Scrooge in his place! If only Dickens had given old Ebenezer a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, he wouldn't have been such a mean prick to everybody ever. P.S. If anybody has this commercial, please make sure that it gets posted on here, post haste. Thank you.

I love the old old OLD pinball Nick logo! I like it more than the latest one...
Anyways, I've noticed that the movie is underway to premeire friday. But when you see a big ass Spongbob sitting atop your local Burger King "waving" (he was just a big figurine), then the Spongebob trend has gone out of control! I almost drove my car off the road seeing that thing winking and everything.
