Yeah, talk away, about whatever. Right now I'm starting to put together the first parade review for this year, which'll probably be the only parade review for this year, but there ya have it. Picked up a ton of awesome Christmas DVDs today, making me all the more pissy that I'll be stuck with the Halloween design for another few weeks.

first post perhaps?

Couldn't you put up last year's Turkey Day Scheme, with the cranberries? I've been rereading the 84-86 parades, and they're absolutely hilarious. Seriously, "BAGGIES ON THE FEET" had me laughing for ten minutes. And Phyliss Diller on crack is a sight to behold. If anybody hasn't seen them yet, check them out now because they're some of the best X-E material ever. Can we expect as many downloads in this year's version? I know it's murder on bandwidth.

Hey, the Toys'R'Us Christmas book is out. Good to get over the post-Halloween blues.

And sort of related: Is it too early to start putting up Xmas stuff at home? I'm ready to roll, but the fam is insisting that we wait a few weeks. We've got a fake tree out in the garage, so I don't even have to wait for the tree lots to open up. Anybody got an opinion on how early is too early?

Last year's Thanksgiving design was kinda neat, if only because, hey, we had a design for THANKSGIVING. That said, the amount of work it'd take to redo that isn't worth the hassle -- especially when the Christmas design has gotta launch on December 1st. So we're kinda stuck with the ghoul motif till then...but the articles themselves don't have to be.
Yes, they'll be PLENTY of downloads in the next parade review -- just as many as the previous features had.
Oh, and I got that TRU book. It's pretty decent, actually. Really close to the old school supertoy catalogs.

Talk talk talk. Anyway, I was thinking, have you ever done a review of Home Alone? Y'know, lemme go check and see if you have, then I'll get back to you.

How about the episode of Ned and Stacey titled 'Thanksgiving Day Massacre'?
Ned obsesses over cranberry sauce. Stacey is a wreck because instead of a husband, she has Ned. Fun for the whole family!

Matt-Okay. As far as I can tell, you haven't. However, you should. I mean, you've already done an article on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, so why not something as silly as Home Alone. I actually have the VHS, and would be willing to part with it. Let me know what you think.
Oh, and as far as the layout goes, don't you still have the layout from before Halloween? If so, then why don't you just revert back to that one instead.

squee-my family and I would always get a REAL tree around Thanksgiving time. Seriously, we'd go out to this one tree farm every year in the nearby mountains, and I'd always pick out the most kickass, bigass tree ever (I'd also be the one to cut it down, but I enjoyed the tradition). My family uses a fake tree, which I am most morally opposed to! So my answer is no, I don't think it's too early, but shame on you for using a fake tree. God, I miss those days of getting a real one!

I don't have that Toys 'R Us book...that sucks because even though I'm 24 I still love reading those things. The only thing I have to tide me over until it arrives (if ever) is the Target catalogue I got a few weeks back. Not bad, but no TRU.
Wow, Thanksgiving. I missed it last year because I was so coked up the whole season of autumn. I mean I was there and all, but I barely ate and didn't say a word. This used to be one of my favorite holidays too. The thing that sucks most about it (and I hope everyone will agree with me) is that for the most part, sitcoms have the same episode, just with different characters. The turkey gets burnt, pie falls on the floor, stuffing is ruined somehow...oh what retarted humor it truly is! Here's hoping we see an hysterical Law & Order Thanksgiving special this year!

I know my newspaper's spreading the TRU catalog in the Sunday paper -- check if yours did too in the morn.

Matt, I really am curious. Where did you get those Macy's parade tapes? Lucky eBay finds, you have special connectiosn, what?

Speaking of holiday movie reviews. Matt, have you ever done a review for Planes, Trains, and Automobiles? It's kind of a Home Alone for Thanksgiving movie. (Actually it's an away from home for thanksgiving movie)

Hee, I had a feeling I'd get flack for the old plastic tree. If it's any excuse, I've got allergies and can't spend five minutes in a house with a real tree before I start sneezing. But dragging the dusty old thing out of the garage, wrestling the pieces into place and putting it together has become our tradition, though definitely not as cool as chopping down a real one.

Well, just checking in since I'm online. Killin time to try to stay up late because I'm going to England tomorrow for a week and I want to sleep on the plane. I'm really posting because I can't stop telling people: I. AM. GOING. TO. ENGLAND. Look forward to a few updates when I get back, if I don't have time to check in while I'm there, that is. PEACE!

Are you kidding? My tree has been up since the day after Halloween. Not to mention the rest of the house being plastered with enough Christmasy Christmas that Santa could make it into his new North Pole.
AND I'm eating Gummy Christmas Wreaths right now. If that doesn't say I have an addiction, I don't know what does.
Oh.. the "Thanksgiving 04" stamp over the Halloween design is hilarious.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt(#2?) @ 11/07/2004 12:13 PM EST
you know, Matt #2, by the time Christmas actually rolls around, you'll be ready to break up some ornaments and stab your eyes out. I put up my x-mas stuff the day after halloween last year, and it almost ruined christmas for me. I got sick of it all, by like Dec 1st.

If anybody's still in the mood, here's a cute Hallloween story from somebody who really went all out with the decorations/loot. Look closely for a cameo by SSG.

The TRU book came out last weekend, at the stores, but I have no idea why they didn't send it in papers until today.
TRU is trying to insanely outdo WalMart this year, because if they don't, well ... I suppose we'll know the fate of the chain a few months after the season winds down. I heard that TRU was actually offering a reward to anyone that could get a hold of WalMart's Christmas ad before it came/comes out. Shh! I didn't say that.
Chestnuts roasted by A TRU employee @ 11/07/2004 09:14 PM EST
As someone who doesn't live near a Wal-Mart and has been going to the same TRU store at least once a week virtually since I was born, I'm definitely pulling for the chain no matter how overpriced people say it is. If TRU dies, I will burn the pope.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/07/2004 09:17 PM EST
There's a WalMart about ten minutes away from my house, and guess what? They wanted to put up ANOTHER one that I could basically walk to. What the hell?! The WalMart episode of South Park that was on the other night was oh so true...
But, yeah, I don't care if every other store is overpriced, I will never ever shop at a WalMart again, and I'm proud to say that I haven't few a for years, either.
Closing TRU would be a travesty -- much like the closing of Kiddie City and Juvenile, in my youth. If I find out any inside info, I'll be sure to let you know, Matt.

Whirred, I had my tree up the day after Halloween last year and didn't take it down untill after New Years and I'm doing it again this year. What does that tell you? I'm a true addict, there's no such thing as getting sick of Christmas junk for me.
I bleed Christmas.
