10/04/2004 Entry: "Jason Voorhees & Alice Cooper UNITE!"

This is pretty interesting, I'm surprised I haven't covered it before. To celebrate Jason's return in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, the slasher's old pal, Alice F'n Cooper, wrote, sung and starred in a music video all in tribute to the big man with the machete. Titled He's Back -- The Man Behind The Mask, the video guest stars Jason himself, who flies through a movie screen on a Tarzan rope and paces in front of moviegoers. Quick review also includes a really grainy video clip. You've gotta see Jason tackle Alice for yourselves, it'll make your night.

Thanks. I'll be hearing that in me head for a few weeks. He's back....

Chestnuts roasted by Jenny @ 10/04/2004 10:10 PM EST

I was thinking the exact same thing, Jenny. I mean, I had songs from Freddy's Greatest Hits stuck in my head for like a week after listening to it. Haha.

long time lurker, first time poster, the video seems so 80's almost makes me miss the days when mtv played videos instead of shows

Chestnuts roasted by Laura @ 10/04/2004 10:16 PM EST

You're right. That would be a very catchy song if I didn't have "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi stuck in my head already!

Chestnuts roasted by ToulouseLautrecMonfa @ 10/04/2004 10:24 PM EST

It wouldn't be Halloween with out the infamous "ch ch ch" sound effect.

Chestnuts roasted by 1drland @ 10/04/2004 10:28 PM EST

Alice Cooper? You mean the guy who likes to play with snakes? =D

Chestnuts roasted by Miltqn @ 10/04/2004 10:37 PM EST

For a bit more trivia, the song also appeared on Alice's album "Constrictor", the one with a close-up of his face as a boa was suffocating him on the cover. I remember annoying my entire family by playing the song over and over on my dad's record player. Thanks for positing the video, Matt!

i downloaded that video a long time back. god i love it. jason lives.

Chestnuts roasted by ralph @ 10/04/2004 11:04 PM EST

You weren't kidding when you said it was a catchy tune. Make me wish Jason had been in more 80's videos. Now I'm going to imagine a black and white image of Mr. Vorhees looking out the window of his tour bus, and thinking about a million faces, and how he's going to rock them all.

Chestnuts roasted by Dude McGuy @ 10/04/2004 11:11 PM EST

I don't know the blog to post this...but that freddy album you put up kicks ass...number 3 is the best song clearly.

Chestnuts roasted by Hammer @ 10/04/2004 11:33 PM EST

Jason Lives is probably my favorite of the series. The first two people killed are Horshack and the bad guy from "Ghost" (And I'm not talking about Willy Lopez).

Chestnuts roasted by bob genghis khan @ 10/04/2004 11:40 PM EST

"Some folks have a strange idea of entertainment!" Luv'd the video! Jason kicks ass!

The only problem is, now I'm gonna be singing this as I walk through the dorm halls or while I'm taking a shower.

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 10/04/2004 11:41 PM EST

I really, really hope this means there's an upcoming review of Dream Warriors by Dokken. To its credit, it did feature far less movie clippage and more original footage of Freddy being owned by Dokken and their ability to rock.

Dokken vs. Cooper would be an awesome movie.

Chestnuts roasted by Gavok @ 10/05/2004 12:18 AM EST

hey matt how bout Hard Rock Summer...another Alice cooper song from the series...

Chestnuts roasted by Jay Amabile @ 10/05/2004 12:33 AM EST

How about The Fat Boys' "Are You Ready For Freddy" from Nightmare 4 or Whodini's "Any Way I Gotta Swing It" from Nightmare 5.

Yeah, I still think Matt should do something with Dream Warriors video, too. smile

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 10/05/2004 01:23 AM EST

For the record, Dream Warriors is a far catchier song than Man Behind the Mask.

o/~ And MAYBE TONIGHT! MAYBE TONIGHT you'll be GONE! o/~

Chestnuts roasted by Gavok @ 10/05/2004 01:39 AM EST

I nominate Nightmare on My Street as favorite music video with horror icon theme
"I'm your DJ now, Princey"

Chestnuts roasted by Buster @ 10/05/2004 02:18 AM EST

Is it just me and my perverted mind, or does it look like Jason's humping ol' Alice Cooper in the second picture? It's quite disturbing. Perhaps because of scenes like that, heavy metal stars are loathe to make music videos for cheesy horror movies.

Not to complain, Matt, since I like the job you're doing with the Countdown, but will there be any full-size X-E articles before Halloween? All these short ones are fun, but I'd love a big article this week.

Chestnuts roasted by Evan @ 10/05/2004 02:57 AM EST

My two favorite Halloween song are "Zombie Jamboree" by Rockapella and the entire Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. Okay, that's not one song. But I like it anyhow. Oh, Matt: Will you include The Cosby Show Halloween Episode? That was a classic.

Alice is God, constrictor was def by far his cheesiest album tho. Most people hate it. I look at it as a great 80's vibed halloween album that i really only listen to that time of year while buying things like fake blood and spiderwebs and marcus the carcases, lol.

Yes!! Alice Cooper rocks old school, I've heard the song before but I've never seen the video thanks for lifting my day.

While we are on the topic of horror flick soundtracks ... Did anyone else here own the soundtrack to The Lost Boys? "Cry Little Sister", the theme song of the movie, takes me back ... And that shirtless saxophone player at the carnival in the movie ... great movie.

Chestnuts roasted by Sknyluv @ 10/05/2004 12:04 PM EST

never saw the video but I did hear the song when I payed a friend to put it on a CD for me, good stuff. Will you be covering Will Smith's Nightmare on my street or Motorhead's cover of Hllraiser videos? that'd be a good addition to the October month

Chestnuts roasted by dfgdfg @ 10/05/2004 02:42 PM EST

Hell yeah! I've never seen Trick or Treat, but I have seen the box cover. In fact, it may just be the best box cover EVER:

http://www.itsonlyamovie.co.uk/NEW%20COVERS/TRICK%20OR%20TREAT%20VHS.jpg

Just looking at the movie description, I'm almost tempted to take a trip to Amazon.com for it. In fact, I bet it'd make a great Christmas gift. The kind of movie gift that you buy somebody else, but it's really for you because you plan to watch it with them.

Chestnuts roasted by Gavok @ 10/05/2004 03:39 PM EST

I agree with Gavok about Dream Warriors. Dokken is one of my favorite bands and a review of Dream Warriors would make my day. Also, you should check out the video for 'Love Kills' by The Vinnie Vincent Invasion, it's also based on Freddy Krueger. I don't much care for the song itself, but the video is great.

First time commentator, long-time reader. Great site, Matt.

Anyway, there's a website called http://www.freestylemusicvideos.com/

At this website, they have all your favotite cheesy horror-movie music videos available for mixing and matching onto customized DVDs.

My favorite video is "Dream Warriors"...The gag ending with Kruegger waking up from a bad dream was funny.

Also, Matt, it's a little early, but will you be covering any Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades this year? I feel your reviews of the 1984, 1985 and 1986 parades were killer.

Chestnuts roasted by The Rock Steady Flamethrower @ 10/05/2004 03:55 PM EST

Typo...Favotite should be "favorite". Duh, yep, yep, yep!

Chestnuts roasted by The Rock Steady Flamethrower @ 10/05/2004 03:57 PM EST

Trick or Treat is a great movie. Ozzy saying things like "Heavy metal is pornography" really takes it to the next level.

Black Roses is another good heavy metal horror movie, though not as Halloweenish. Hard Rock Zombies might fit the Hallowtheme...

This music video is great. Thanks for opening another door of my childhood Matt!

Yay, The Ramones! Good choice, Kingklash.

I actually have AC's Poison running through my veins, I mean, head, now, after listening to that song. His voice is so distinctive, and that's the only one of his songs that I know all of the words to, so that's the one that's stuck.

I love these little articles. It's great knowing I have something new X-Eish to read every morning. Great job, Matt, keeping up w/ the 9-5ers, and then coming home and writing a new article every night.

One of the best non-drug mood elevators I have ever recommened is a good Ramones cut. You try to be down while jumping around, singing I Wanna Be Sedated, I dare you.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 10/05/2004 05:13 PM EST

Loved the video. Jason + Alice = good times for all. By the way, does anyone remember the glut of gimmicky 900 numbers in the late 80's? I was thinking of one that was seasonably apropos- back in '89, my brother and I used to call 1-900-909-4FRED. You could listen to Freddy Krueger threaten to do all sorts of horrible (and intriguing) things to you in your dreams. The jig was up when mom and dad discovered a $22.00 charge on the phone bill- DOH! Anyway, if you remember that, post. Ciao!

We're the dreaaaam waaarriooooors!! I love the Alice video! The song isn't a example of the best Cooper, but it's fun. The lead guitar player, Kane Roberts had a assaul rifle/guitar.

Thanks for the kind words, Traj. It's a lot tougher to do this while working than I anticipated, it's good to know it's not falling on deaf monitors.

JLA -- are you on a Mac? The file type will only work on Windows. I can't afford to make two file types available, and generally speaking, mpg/avi files are simply too large for me to make downloads available so frequently.

Weds' Countdown entry will be posted tonight. It's written, I just didn't have time to put it together last night. The entry for Thursday is pretty killer, though. smile

RIP Rodney, thanks for the triple dive and everything else.

I use a iMac, but thanks to my vast mental stoehouse of trivia and TV-related things, remembering the video is no problem for me. In the meantime, are they starting to mine nightmares for commercial ideas? The Juicy Fruit ads with the CPR dummy and the pinata, f'r instance. Or the Levi's ad with the mannequin stalker. I just know there are people losing sleep after seeing those ads. I'm still scarred from the melting Grimace ad from a long time ago.
