10/01/2004 Entry: "The Grim Rapper ushers in the Halloween season."

It's October 1st! Halloween season has officially begun, and to celebrate, I've taken the advice of several readers who urged me to check out the GRIM RAPPER, a singing, animated, hip hoppy Halloween tribute to the man who steal y'all souls yo. This baby's bad news, but I love it anyway. Fifteen bucks is all it takes to make a mockery out of grim reapers and all that they stand for, so if you liked it when Bill & Ted did that, you'll soon propose to the Grim Rapper and try to do naughty wet things with it.

Happy October everyone! smile

That has got to be the single most frightening thing I have ever witnessed in all my years of witnessing frightening things. And that's saying something!

4th post - my personal best.

Thanks for cheering me up Matt, the rock station is calling October
"Blocktober" I find this sacreligous.

Now we know who was being all these rap stars murders: The Grim Reaper needed real rappers to coach him!

I bet you could give him extra bling bling from the cheap jewelry you can pick-up in vending machines?

Chestnuts roasted by Yzziefrog @ 10/01/2004 08:06 PM EST

Unless he does a jump to the left, a step to the right, and lots of pelvic thrusts with his hands on his hips and he knees in tight, I ain't buyin' it.

At least it isn't as bad as the rodents who sing "Kung Fu Fighting" in high, mousy voices. Man, those are really terrible.

I guessing the Grim Rapper is crashing on the singing Big Billy Bass and dancing Santa turf in sing poorly writen, yo!

Man, that looks hilarious. I wish I had the money to buy it.

I at least like him better than most REAL rappers.

While I usually look forward to October, I wasn't so much this year because Saturday (re: tomorrow) is my 30th birthday and I feel like I finally have to "grow up".

I haven't even seen Logan's Run... sad

Chestnuts roasted by Steve Brandon @ 10/01/2004 11:22 PM EST

But fifteen bucks can also buy a stuffed-crust pizza with ground beef, mushroom and onions from Pizza Hut. Sorry, Gee-R. I already got a barely articulate frog that sings "Joy to the World." I don't need any more packing material for my closet.

Chestnuts roasted by TB Tabby @ 10/01/2004 11:29 PM EST

So... does the Grim Rapper have any connections to "Bling Bling" Scooby?

Chestnuts roasted by Rainbowfeet @ 10/01/2004 11:44 PM EST

Actually, the Grim Rapper is the ghost of Rapping Barney Rubble from that one Fruity Pebbles commercial (because everyone in Bedrock, both in the official Hanna-Barbera continuity and in the alternate reality continuity where they have live-action Post-brand cereals, would be dead by now, having lived only in caveman times).

Chestnuts roasted by Steve Brandon @ 10/01/2004 11:59 PM EST

The only thing that comes to mind from this article is Colin Mochrie rapping on Whose Line is it Anyway.

"Hey there, buddies, look at him!
He's dead, he's dead, and his name is Jim.
What once was is no longer were,
He's comin' with me, I'm the grim reaper."

*Colin proceeds to bust a move*

Anyway, I'd like to declare the Grim Rapper to be this year's Hulk Hands. I mean that in a good way.

My mom had a stupid disco snowman, which she brought out for every baby that visited. And of course, no baby ever got tired of its staticky 10-second song, to the tune of "Stayin' Alive":

"You can tell by the way I drive my sleigh
I'm so happy now, on Christmas Day!
Ho, Ho, Ho, Ho, Drivin' da sleigh, Drivin' da sleigh!"

Now imagine having to hear that 500 times.

Chestnuts roasted by Mars @ 10/02/2004 02:14 AM EST

That 'Grim Rapper', is quite interesting.
It almost reminds me of the Christmas song-tree "Douglas Fur".
I dislike rap though, but I can put aside my dislike for a singing grim reaper, he may be of poor quality but it could be worse, his bones could be pure white, and untarnished.

Click on my name to visit Discworld, with the coolest Grim Reaper in the whole universe! Terry Pratchett's Death is well known for his predilection for murdering curries, for taking time off in Mort and Reaper Man to try to have fun or learn about humanity reapectively. Oh, yes, and Susan Sto Helit, Death's granddaughter who can also walk through walls and DO THE VOICE. And of course, he named the Pale Horse "Binky". What a legend. He opted for a Harley in Soul Music, I recall, in a take-off of Meatloaf. Def'nitely cooler than the Grim Rapper, I must say. razz

To add my silly five cent's worth, I remember seeing a "singing Christmas wreath" wot opened its eyes and started singing in a way guaranteed to terrify all your friends on a TV infomercial once. I remember screaming incoherently at the screen and throwing scatter cushions around in rage and hatred... smile

Matt, you are sick! SICK!!! big grin And I don't mean New York Fever (ala Saturday night fever?) either....

I feel the same way. The temperature dropped overnight here, so between Sep. 31 and Oct. 1 it became Halloween season!

To make it even better, my mom sent me a Halloween care package which I got today! It cost her $100 to ship to China. God-Bless her. Now I can decorate my room and pig out on candy. Without it I would have been stuck in a Halloweenless country and been very depressed.

Boy I gotta tell ya, that DOES look cool =)

Mars, that is hilarious! But I guess it would grow old quick after the 500th time. wink

Matt, great job on the countdown. I'm enjoying all the articles and that picture of Tim Curry from the Worst Witch cracks me up every friggin time I see it.

"Unless he does a jump to the left, a step to the right, and lots of pelvic thrusts with his hands on his hips and he knees in tight, I ain't buyin' it."

Preach it, sister.

Happy Birthday, Steve Brandon! I'll be 30 in a few months, myself. I told myself I wouldn't cry... Sniff. I don't have an opinion that's worth anything anymore. That sucks! And hey, speaking of never seeing anything, I've never seen It's A Wonderful Life, so don't think not seeing Logan's Run is that bad.

Awesome, Abraxas! What a cool mom you have.

So, I'm sitting here, reading about the crazy-like-a-fox Grim Rapper, and what comes on the 80's music station I'm listening to? Ghostbusters by none other than Ray Parker, Jr. I also happened to have Bob, the garter snake, warming himself in my shirt collar, so freaky all around.
Yes, I'm female, married and actually have spawned. Scary thought, huh?

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 10/02/2004 12:23 PM EST

Oh, yeah. It says at the top of the page that Matt's commercial info is in the bloggie here somewhere. Did I miss it?

Chestnuts roasted by trajeal @ 10/02/2004 12:24 PM EST

Trajeal, I believe it refers to this entry from a few days ago (Snakeman). Matt mentioned that he's been too sick to get any specific air times.

Hey, Steve, Sunday is my 30th birthday, so I feel you. I think this likely makes us among the oldest people hanging out here at the X-E blog.

I've always taken a weird pride in the fact that my birthday is exactly 4 weeks before Halloween.

The Grim Rapper is still a few steps behind the oddly green-skinned singing James Brown doll on my personal scale of Awfulness.

October birthday here too! I turn 22 on the 20th!

To those of you tuning in late, my B-Day is Nov. 1. So, I'm among those with a bit of a Hallowe'en thing goin' on when I get my cake. 35 this time around! Woo-hoo! I'm old!

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 10/02/2004 04:50 PM EST

You know, I just noticed that the animated pic of that thing rapping synchs up perfectly with Fatboy Slim's Brimful of Asha. Nopt only does the reaper rap, but he spins progressive house. What won't grim do next?

I just saw a commercial today for a toy called Robosapien. It looked kinda cool, has anyone else seen the commercial?
I could see him battling super articulate spiderman in the near future..

Ugh. Those "Freedom Tower" silver coins are the tackiest, tasteless things I've ever seen. I think I was watching Comedy Central and thought it was a joke at first.

Yeah, yesterday the temperature just DROPPED. It went from being warm-ish early fall weather to full-on Halloween weather. I effin' love that.

There's a book I'm starting sometime this week called "Death Makes a Holiday". It's all about the origins of Halloween as a holiday. I've had it for a couple of months, but I've been waiting for the perfect time to read it.

Chestnuts roasted by Captain Skull @ 10/03/2004 05:51 AM EST

We just got him today, thanks to the CVS price tag, we knew where to go!

He's smaller than we thought, but just as cute. He's a good dancer.

Whoever said to bling him up with vending machine bling is smart. I think we will have to do this. His current necklace is just not G enough.

Chestnuts roasted by The Original G (Reaper, that is!) @ 10/03/2004 11:27 AM EST

Once, there was this Christmas tree that looked like a lovechild of Treebeard and Oscar the Grouch that sung Jingle Bell Rock. It sounded drunk when low on batteries. Makes me think that a song called Crack Your Mind involved one of those from either Lhasa or Vientiane.

Chestnuts roasted by Yama the Space Fish @ 10/03/2004 11:49 AM EST

You got that at CVS didnt you? Stop over at the CVS in roselle NJ and ill hook you up with a discount.

Chestnuts roasted by Cheesegod @ 10/03/2004 09:02 PM EST

Ack!!! There's no CVS where I live (Oklahoma), and I can't find the Grim Rapper ANYWHERE! I need it for a friend for Halloween. No, seriously...we, uh, have some rap jokes. And some grim reaper jokes.

Trust me, it would be perfect. Just tell me where to find the darn thing!
