09/19/2004 Entry: "Halloween Countdown: Mutilated Body Parts!"

The Halloween Countdown continues with an intense study of Mutilated Rubber Body Parts. I picked up three for examination -- a finger, a hand and an arm. So we've got sort of a theme going. If I'd picked up a leg, everything would've been all frigged up. More is coming everyday, so keep on checking. It's going to be a challenge keeping this stuff up to date while I'm working, but Halloween is supposed to be challenging.

So thats where my severed arm went

Chestnuts roasted by Michael @ 09/19/2004 02:46 PM EST

great article. i was a mad scientist one year with body parts coming out of pockets of my bloody lab coat.

on a side note does anyone remember a line of toys that were dinosaur skeletons you assembled yourself but could also be assembled to form any number of weapons/vehicles/beasts for little cavemen?

Those are somewhat interesting, I saw an arm and a leg, at this shop I visited recently, they're cool - but they can't top well crafted fake skulls.

Chestnuts roasted by Jay @ 09/19/2004 02:49 PM EST

Eeeewww. They're nasty, yey cool. But they certainly don't match up to a bag filled with candy and bursting at the seams. The extent of Halloween decorating that my family ever did was Jack-o-Lanterns, but the shitload of candy that I received every year more than made up for it (took a whole lot less painstaking effort than a Jack-o-Lantern did, too).

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 09/19/2004 02:58 PM EST

Further note: I'm just glad they don't make fake severed versions of other certain body parts. (Or do they?)

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 09/19/2004 03:00 PM EST

7TH!!!!

I would personally use that severed arm as a bat to mug kids on my halloween run. (I mug kids, and get 6 times as much candy as I would normally would trick or treating)

One year I went to the butcher and got a real cow's leg complete with hanging rotting meat that became more aromatic throughout the evening. I stayed home to answer the door as young slightly suspecting kiddies arrived. When they held out their bags I would offer the candy in a basket hanging from the severed leg. The challenge for the kids would be to wipe the tears away long enough to navigate their hands into the basket to snatch a piece, then run in terror. Somehow, I think I had more fun than they did.

There's a local private-owned burger joint down town just laced with fake body parts and other gags. Awesome place to hang out.

Hey Matt, the site looks great. I haven't had a chance to read any of the articles yet (booo, school and work) but it made me feel very Halloweeny to see the main site. Now maybe I'll be inspired to finally on getting on my Halloween prep.

will we ever see madd matt again? i miss him alot

Chestnuts roasted by ANdrew @ 09/19/2004 04:46 PM EST

I've always wondered something...where does Matt get the dispensable income for so much of this...stuff? Toys...Hulk promotional items...Shrek Promotional Items...candy...decorations...I just don't get it. If he's got some secret to make money, I'd really like to know. Please tell me, Matt!

Chestnuts roasted by Josh @ 09/19/2004 04:56 PM EST

get a real sheep's head and put it above your door, and you'll have the candy to yourself that year.

Chestnuts roasted by theo @ 09/19/2004 05:00 PM EST

Josh, he works at Nickelodeon and writes a column for a newspaper. I think he's good to go on buying cheap plastic crap.

Hey Matt, I know you're a fan of the old Garfield specials... and you may already know about this so if you do just ignore me... but this October a dvd is being released with the Garfield Halloween, Christmas and Thanksgiving (I didn't even know there was a Thanksgiving special) episodes on it. Just thought you might like to know...

Chestnuts roasted by bdsghost @ 09/19/2004 06:09 PM EST

The TG special is kinda nice. Thanks for the info. I have the Garf & Friends DVD set and absolutely love it.

Travelling through Barcelona 2 years ago a giant department store was advertising a sale by hanging giant clear bodybags filled with fake blood and fake (I hope!) severed arms, legs, torsos etc from poles about every 10 meteres around the building.
It was truly one of the weirdest sales machinations I've ever seen.

"Holy crap! There's some guys arm in that bag!!!"
"Sheesh, you're right. Should we call the police...or Batman???"
"Actually, I need a new sweater and seeing as we're here..."

I took a photo I'll try and find it.

The new site design rocks as well - can't ever have enough Tim Curry pictures on the ol' homepage. Nice work!

Chestnuts roasted by Cliche-Man @ 09/19/2004 06:44 PM EST

I remember a time, when you could find fake body parts in your local supermarket, usually next to a display of fun size candy. Now you're either forced to go to party supply stores, or out of the way drug stores. By the way Matt, have you spotted the boxes of Halloween theme Lucky Charms yet? Lucky's on the box, with a burglar mask, and I believe a gimmick marshmallow inside.

I've got a pile of Halloween cereal, and will cover each one. smile

Matt, do a review of the "Chiller" video game. Here's a link to it.

Hey Matt-
I sent you an email regarding stuff for the countdown, and I was wondering if you got it... I sent it to the address that you posted during your call for crap. If I need to re-send it, let me know, thanks.
Site looks GREAT, by the way.

I must say that I was always a much bigger fan of the animated garfield than the comic strip. Garfield and Friends was a great cartoon and I'm glad it introduced me to U.S. Acres (one of my favorite moments was when Orson did the "Wade you're afraid of everything made" song"wink For some reason I thought it was funny that Wade's innertube made the synchronized facial expressions along with Wade. And of course you had to love Orson's big asshole brothers. Classic.

P.S. Hopefully someday Nermal will finally be mailed to Abu Dahbi

Yo,
If anyone wants to see the photo of the bodybag department store advertising campaign I've posted a pik. Click through on my name.

Ah yes, severed body parts remind me of good times with my family.

Chestnuts roasted by Sara @ 09/19/2004 08:05 PM EST

I remember seeing those severed body parts at the supermarket and my local drug store. Sometimes you can find those body parts at those expensive mall "halloween" stores.

Chestnuts roasted by pikachulover @ 09/19/2004 09:58 PM EST

Hey Matt, don't hate China. How 'bout getting a nice black OJ glove to put over that hand to cover the blood trail? Love the countdowns, I look forward to them every year!

Chestnuts roasted by Javansdaddy @ 09/20/2004 10:18 AM EST

I like to take a fake severed finger and put it in my taco at Taco Bell. Then I show it to the manager and demand free stuff.

Chestnuts roasted by Sweetie @ 09/20/2004 12:11 PM EST

Once, there was a kit called "The Crazy Clone Maker" (before the revelatious epiphany of spelling it "Krazy Klone" occurred in the hallowed canyons of Madison Avenue) that used a weird mixture to create a negetive mold of whatever you stuck in it. Then using another mix, you cast your duplicate. Fingers, toes, small toys, whatever could fit in the casting beaker. But, if I could think of cloning a tallywhacker and leaving it in a urinal, then somebody more brave than i could, and the Clone Maker was quickly gone. We need something like that now.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 09/20/2004 12:12 PM EST

bdsghost, I had almost forgotten about the Garfield specials being released this year. Can't wait for that since they haven't been showing them on tv in the past few years. Bastards. Christmas isn't Christmas without Garfield's Christmas. ..Christmas.

PS: kingklash's posts are like mini-articles. Double the fun. Double Mint gum. Yum.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt (#2?) @ 09/20/2004 03:58 PM EST

For ease of assimilation, I learn information in chunks, but the drawback is that it get recalled and played back in chunks. I have lots of trivial info at hand, but it's all peicemeal and random. Being a bit of a bookworm and couch potato hasn'helped any nigh-on 35 years.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 09/20/2004 04:15 PM EST

i think they should make a combo pack that has a severd body not just like one or two peices all the body parts just severd

Chestnuts roasted by FruitLoopEatingFeind @ 09/20/2004 09:23 PM EST

that will make for lodes of family fun

Chestnuts roasted by yoyoyo @ 09/20/2004 09:33 PM EST

ahhh... severed body parts.
Deliciously yummy..err for Halloween parties, that is!
And yes Matt, I too have that dream of faking out someone with my fake hand up my sleeve. Now THAT would be priceless!
We can only dream, huh?

PS Love tha new look of tha site. Huzzah!

Chestnuts roasted by Blakula2k @ 09/20/2004 10:28 PM EST

And as a side note, what exactly DID happen to Mad Matt?
He is sorely missed around these parts!

Chestnuts roasted by Blakula2k @ 09/20/2004 10:31 PM EST

You do realize that that picture looks like a big dildo don't you?
big grin

Yup, I wuz thinking about that. The only time I get to make evil feminist jokes around here O_o is We'en time, when severed penises fill the land. Bwahahahaaaa! I think My Evil Pony should get involved here somehow. Make horrified male nerds drop their cordless keyboards on their collective foot Huh, Klash? Sorry. Sorry I always apologise. Aarrgh! Sorry. smile

This is such a fun site. I can't believe I've spent an entire 2 hours indulging my.... severed finger envy. Well, website envy, really. Brian ROOLZ! Someone should write a Life of Brian (better than blasphemous Monty Python shite version, ne?) I think I shall have to learn to do iframes. Yup yup yup.
