Well, 8 PM has come and gone, and with it, the chance to win a box of crap for coloring in Squid Head and Boba Fett. Got a little over 30 entries -- a few were lost in e-mail mishaps; say a prayer for them. The rest of you knew the rules: make magic out of this page:
Judging the entries was tough -- most of the good ones were so much better than the bad ones that the bad ones seemed four times badder than they actually were. And of the good, a few stood out. Part of me wanted to award the grand prize to Jay from Tupelo who so skillfully cropped fried calamari out of a Food Network picture and added it near Boba Fett's mouth. Instead I had Jay from Tupelo killed. The winner of the One-Day-Only ROTJ Coloring Book Coloring Contest is...
Jeff will win various trinkets of little worth, packed into a box we formerly used to litter box train. Thanks to all who participated -- I liked coming home to multiple Squid Heads. Here's the best of the rest, and sorry if yours isn't on here. I'm running out of time.
Actually, Russell should win too. So yeah, Russell wins too. Extra box for you.

Guess mine didnt go through. Too bad because it was so much better than all of these! Really, totally, I swear.

I didn't expect to win, but it was fun making mine anyway. And now you can all enjoy Boba Fett in a suit with a top hat and monocle.
Chestnuts roasted by JDavis @ 08/10/2004 10:01 PM EST
Mine didn't go through either, dammit.
I DID send it again, though. I hope it at least can be put up? ^^ It's really cool

This certainly made my day. Definately do this again, Matt--The results were awesome!

YAY! 12th place!!
Voice inside: I think they're up randomly after the winner.
Quiet you!

Man i wish I had talent. Or a life. Either would be greatly appreciated at this point. I guess i missed the whole contest thing. I feel slighty accomplished that i did pull out all my old coloring books and colored in them this morning. Though I guess i had the newest crayola's, cause i couldn't find half of the crayons from the review and there were a bunch of new ones like Pig Pink. Great Job to all the contest people. I'm impressed. Though it takes very little to impress me.

I though they made such a happy couple.

I agree with Cameron T. We should definitely do this again at some point. It is fun for the whole family (except where said family includes blind people)!
Chestnuts roasted by JDavis @ 08/10/2004 10:39 PM EST
Aww, I even gave Boba Fett all his battle damage on his armor and everything. Oh well. Grats to the winner(s).
Chestnuts roasted by Lysanna @ 08/10/2004 10:46 PM EST
I didn't need an extra box o junk anyway. I have enough of those to begin with.
Chestnuts roasted by Silkenray @ 08/10/2004 10:48 PM EST
DAMMIT!!!!!!!! I missed the fucking contest!!!! I so would've entered!!!!!
Well, anyway, I hope you have another contest like this sometime soon. Fuck.

Mine's the 4th one down, but it's compressed so you can't see the pictures on the wall in detail. I got some other X-E favorites in there too. Thanks for posting it, Matt!

Mine's the 17th one down. I figured my gag was too obvious to get picked, but it was still sweet seeing it here.
BTW Matt, its CRUIZ not CRUID, or was that my typo? Honestly, I found out about this today and kinda rushed that email, so its possible.
Congrats to all. Good jobs all around.
Chestnuts roasted by A-wel Cruiz @ 08/10/2004 11:41 PM EST
greg and jdavis are winners in my book.
Matt, you couldn't have posted brian stricklin's entry without expecting a barrage of "pHoTOg EnTRieS pLEaSe!" comments, so I'll get the party started. PHOTOG PLEASE!

Chestnuts roasted by phunqsauce @ 08/11/2004 12:21 AM EST
Wow, I want Russell to teach me how to paint.
Seriously. Where is he?
Still, I thought my entry was good too. If I had won, I was going to refuse the advertised prize and instead ask for the chance to write one article for X-E in Matt's place. It would have rocked.
Chestnuts roasted by Mars @ 08/11/2004 12:31 AM EST
Man...mine sucked so bad I didn't even color it.
I wish I could read...
Chestnuts roasted by Walks @ 08/11/2004 12:53 AM EST
Aww, sorry I missed it! Not that I would've had time to enter something really great, but still.
And hey, JDavis -- your entry was jolly good stuff. Jolly good! Great entries all around, actually. You all deserve more than nothing and time lost, but alas, we live in a zero-sum world.
Chestnuts roasted by Wes @ 08/11/2004 03:48 AM EST
The only remotely servicable idea I had was to draw a large arrow pointing to the crack in the wall with the caption "Honeycomb", and then Boba Fett would say "Honeycomb big, yeah, yeah, yeah" to which Squidhead would reply "It's not small, no, no, no".
Too weak a joke to sumbit, especially if you haven't seen the André the Giant Honeycomb commercial which Matt has archived elsewhere on this site.

Mine was the best because it looked like what an actual coloring book would look like had some kid named Kenny had his way with it.
It sucked though

Thanks Mars. I love this site and when I saw that contest I just had to enter. It's good though that the prize was given based on more than just good coloring, so congrats to Jeff too!
Chestnuts roasted by Russell @ 08/11/2004 09:26 AM EST
Yes, I agree...JDavis is the winner...that one made me laugh out loud. However, the best one based on pure art is silkenray...that is really good. Wish I could do that.
Chestnuts roasted by Y2JB78 @ 08/11/2004 10:50 AM EST
Woo! Third AND fourth! That probably just means I'm a big geek who sent her entries in so early they were at the top of the email ladder. Oh, well.
Also, am I the only dork who submitted two?
Comments: ewzzy's looks like a Jefferson Airplane video.
greg, the posters are awesome. Excellent idea.
Brian Sobby and I both went for the fat joke.
jdavis, yours is awesome, too. Loving the top hat.
a-wel cruiz, I think Matt fixed your name. 'Cruid' is like a mean druid. Heh, I ammuse myself.
silkenray, nice coloring job. I'm surprised no one has commented yet.
Man, I love photoshop challenges. I could do them all day. I don't have photoshop (Microsoft PhotoDraw), but it works just as well. Obviously, I didn't use it for my entry (how could anyone NOT use crayons to color it? I'm so disappointed in all of you. Pppbbbllttt!). Click on my name to see my most recent TWOP entry under KermitD.Frog (catagory: celebrities in the Olympics).
I love the idea of getting to write an X-E article as a prize. Or, as a contest. 'Write 2,000 on what you keep in your junk drawer', or '1,500 words on Thunder Punch He-man'.

I have to say that JDavis' is my favorite too. Monacles=awesome.

the colors, man. THE COLORS! I like the ones colored like amy s. because the Mon Calamari looks like a collector's lapel pin.

I have to say I'm suprised no one made a comment about the... ahem, shape of Squid head's noggin from Boba Fett's perspective.

Drat, I didn't even make the cut. I wish I had a webspace so people could take a look at mine entry.
I found it funny, but then again, I'm Canadian.
Good job on the colouring peoples, there 's a lot of talent and humour displayed in the lot. I wonder how full Matt's inbox was?

Thanks for the compliments, guys
Chestnuts roasted by JDavis @ 08/11/2004 02:16 PM EST
Question: If you were to look at Jeff's winning entry under the influence of some illegal substance, would it look like the original?
Chestnuts roasted by Yzziefrog @ 08/11/2004 02:39 PM EST
Yzziefrog, i thought mine was hilarious as well, but then again I'm canadian as well
Maybe we just have our own twisted sense of humour up here...kinda like our beer....strong and makes you forget!

Good stuff too bad I missed the contest I feel left out, I'll have to stop a "Goodwill" and pick up a box of crap just to make myself feel special. My favorite has to be Russell's, nice job!

You guys all did a great job. Ewwzy's was really good, and greg's art gallery, but I liked the last 2 entries the best of all.
I don't know how I missed this contest. It might have had to do with school, which is all the more reason to hate it, as if it being in the summer wasn't enough...
Do another coloring thingie!

Obviously you're all into this contest but I'm sorry to say that the last two starwars movies: Star Wars - The Search For A Plot and Star Wars - When You Fail Redeeming Yourself, were not very good at all. Which I'm sure you all noticed unless you were waiting for a good view of Natalie Portman to enjoy yourself with as well as I and four little Jawa Wackers at home. But nevertheless, Starwars is an epic of all time and Star Trek was a big fat rip-off of Space Balls. You all kick ass and have fun coloring your little guys!
