A movie with a crazy, bald Corey Feldman killing a disfigured guy in a hockey mask. I love this place.
Jason Takes Manhattan could make for a good review. It was pretty bad, yeah, but it had its moments. Two thousand of 'em. The huge cook in the movie later played Jason in Freddy vs. Jason. God, I'm a dork.

I hated JTManhattan when I saw it, and on subsequent viewings, but I may appreciate it more now that I'm on this Jason kick. I really just didn't enjoy the climate of the movie, or how it looked -- the killings and all that shit were okay. Ending was terrible, but would make for great review fodder.
I actually like Part II a whole lot, and that one's got shitloads of mentionable scenes, so if I ever return to the F13 well, that be the one.

Matt I think I may have found a typo You worte: " I'm pretty sure Shao Kahn would away brutality points only to Friday the 13th Part II"
Did you mean Shao Kahn would give away brutality points?
And I have to agree with you on part II matt, It is my personal favorite of the series. it has my favorite death sceene of all time, they guy in the wheelchair.

another awsome movie review~ Has anyone here seen "Battle Royale"? I'd love if Matt could review it, but I know it'll never get released in the US.

Blech--this one was pretty dirty, though that'd be expected from a Jason movie. I just skimmed through it.
I don't really want to see any truly scary horror movies in my life. I can read articles about them, but I don't want to see any. I'll tell you why: have you ever pondered what your very last thought before you die will be? I keep thinking, what if I see something horrible in a horror movie that I just can't forget, and THAT is the last thing I think about?? Seriously, this is my reason. I'm scared of that happening.

Matt, you failed to mention the fat girl who gets killed on the side of the road simply because . . . well, she's a fat girl on the side of the road. That scene is so funny, the way she eats the banana and how--if I remember--her hitchiking sign turns around into an "F.U." sign. Ice pick to the neck if I remember correctly.
I've kinda felt that 5 was really the underappreciated one of the series. The killer isn't even Jason in that one and man-alive, the death scenes don't get any better. The best being the Michael Jackson clone who lives in the trailer park, gorges on tacos and pizza, then gets killed in the crappiest (no pun intended) outhouse. Anyway, that's the extent of my ramblings for a year or so.
Chestnuts roasted by inkmage @ 06/17/2004 04:05 AM EST
Matt, you might not like Jason takes Manhattan, but that scene of Jason on Times Square is priceless! One of the best scenes in any Friday the 13th if you ask me.
Chestnuts roasted by Sjoerd @ 06/17/2004 04:19 AM EST
Inkmage -- good call, good death scene. Random ugly banana-eating chicks usually make good death scenes.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/17/2004 07:57 AM EST
I am going to have to agree with you, Matt. This was my favorite Friday the 13th. Part one was his mom, part 2 he just had the stupid sack over his head...part 3 he finally gets the mask, which deserves honorable mention, but still didn't have quite the shock factor of part 4. Part 5 wasn't even him, and part 6 is where the series took the turn to the supernatural. The first 4 films just seemed to have more of the suspense angle.
Absolutely awsome review!
Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 06/17/2004 08:21 AM EST
Oh, I almost forgot...Tommy going bat-shit crazy and hacking the crap out of Jason was the greatest scene ever. Every horror movie has the surprise jump ending with the monster not quite dead yet, and Tommy was ready for it. He saw that twitch and just started hacking away with that crazed look in his eye. My friends and I cheered during that scene because it was what we always wanted to happen at the end of all the horror movies.
Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 06/17/2004 08:26 AM EST
I've always felt sort of neutral about the Friday films, though I always loved the character of Jason. I liked the killings and all, but my bloodlust always wanted more of them, the more brutal, the better.
Hey Matt, have you ever seen any of those Itallian horror flicks from the 70's and early 80's? There some gems out there. Dario Argento did a couple of good ones. Deep Red (the film that apparently inspired John Carpenter to do Halloween. Even the theme music is slightly similar)is creepy and bloody all at once, and Suspiria is a spooky and suspensful film, with one of the most brutal onscreen murders I have ever seen in my life, and keep in mind this was made in 1977.
I never saw Friday The 13th part 2, but I may have to check it out sometime. And part 4 definitely was an exceptional entry in the series.

Chestnuts roasted by Creature SH @ 06/17/2004 09:28 AM EST
I saw this one when I was about the age that Corey is in the film and I remember identifying with the character. I was a bit of a strange kid too. So the way I saw it, it was like I killed Jason. Go me! Although, given that logic I guess I also threw my career away and did too many episodes of Hollywood Squares. Boo me!
Chestnuts roasted by Blah...blah @ 06/17/2004 09:41 AM EST
I HATE horror movies, and I can't stand watching them (though reading these articles are okay).
However, somewhat oddly, I have actually seen the end of this flick. It must have been on TV or something.
And yes, the ambiguous ending was cool...

I think more horror movies need the 'National Guard come' plot element like in Monster Squad (better late than never) and Jason Goes to Hell (I always wanted that to happen).
Imagine how much better House of 1000 Corpses would have made you feel if the 'Guard came and dealt with things.
Chestnuts roasted by Cannibalizer @ 06/17/2004 11:16 AM EST
how did jason get a hokey mask and a misety?
...Indeed, how did he acquire that misety? I think we have all wondered that at one time or another. I'm not so sure about the hokey pokey either.

This was my personal favorite out of all of them too. But i personally think that all of them suck except 4, 6, and freddy vs. jason. but yet again an opinion. Great article but the nightmare on elm street series is so much better then the friday on 13th series.

Don't harsh too mightily on "House," it was supposed to be a big hunk o'cheese. Now, if ol' Rob would remake "Manos," that would rule like twelve inches! "Final Chapter" was cool for all the reasons stated, but my personal favorite was "New Blood." Just something about girls with telekinesis who accidentally kill their daddys and bring undead killers back to the land of moving parts that piques my interest.
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 06/17/2004 12:00 PM EST
Well, Marc, Jason got his machette in Friday the 13th Part 2. It is his weapon of choice because his mother used it to get revenge on a group of camp counselors who neglected to save her son from drowning (This all happened in Part 1). She was ultimately killed by her own weapon, and in Part 2, we learn that her little boy, Jason, actually survived the drowning and grew up in the wild. All he thinks about is revenge for what happened to him, and after his mother is killed, he stops at nothing to get revenge on the councelors.
He got the trademark hockey mask in Friday the 13th Part 3, when a group of teenagers decide to go to a summer cottage for a weekend of fun. One of the teenagers, Shelly (Shelly is a guy, by the way) decides to play practical jokes on his friends to amuse himself. He first fakes his own death, and everyone gets mad at him for pulling a sick joke like that. He doesn't learn his lesson, and he decides to jump out of the water at one of his friends, Vera, wearing, you guessed it, a hockey mask. He is trying to get her to like him, but he only succeeds in making her mad. She tells him to buzz off and he stalks off only to run into Jason who makes short work of him. Jason then puts on the hockey mask and finds Vera out on a dock trying to fish Shelly's wallet out of the water (she had dropped it in). She of course just thinks that it is Shelly under the mask, and is taken completely by surprise when Jason does his work. He then proceeds to wear the mask for the rest of the movie, and for the rest of the series for that matter, terrorizing teenagers that engage in unwholesome activities.
Although your only ten, I was about that age when I started watching these movies. Don't worry, Marc, as long as these movies make money, they will keep making them.
Oh, and get the Freddy doll, Freddy is cooler looking.

Freddy got the sweater and the hat at a store. There were the clothes he was wearing when he was caught by the townsfolk and thrown in the boiler. They did burn up, his whole body burned up, but he manifests himself in peoples dreams using that scary image of himself.
Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 06/17/2004 12:07 PM EST

I have some friends who are so obsessed with this movie that its disgusting. They used to constantly quote the "dead fuck" lines as well as "Ted, where's the corkscrew?" My friend John was literally in love with the character of Ted. Ted is played by this actor, Lawrence Monoson. John declared himself to be a "Monosexual" and would constantly pause the DVD at the moment where Ted takes off his clothes to go skinny dipping. I was glad to see that Matt discovered this treasure of a film for himself.

I'm still partial to Part I, if only for the memories it triggers. Plus, Kevin Bacon dying and all that. II and IV would be close after that, and I think Jason Goes To Hell is a bit better than many admit.

Did anyone watch The Surreal Life w/ Corey Feldman, Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea from 90210), Vince Neil, and MC Hammer? Corey Feldman is the tooliest tool who ever tooled. Delusions of granduer, narcissism, and too many weepy moments to count. You haven't lived until you've seen a bleached Feldman crying behind his Michael Jackson sunglasses. He even convinced his girlfriend to marry him on the season finale. They somehow got Hugh Heffner to show up. What a wacked out show. There are some great recaps at tellevisionwithoutpity.com, if anyone is interested.
Well, after making this movie, I'm not surprised that he's screwed up.
Well, now we know where the title for yesterdays Blog update came from. The Superbowl of self-abuse, indeed.
Crispin Glover always makes me think of Danny Glover, which makes me think of the Lethan Weapon movies, which makes me think of the Loaded Weapon movies, which makes me think of Emilio Estevez. Mmmm, Emilio...

I hated that goddamn nintendo game. Even with Game Genie codes it's a pain in the ass to beat, which means they made the game TOO FREAKIN HARD, and the ending was NOT worth the effort.
I'm pretty much torn between which F13 movie I liked more-3 or Final Chapter. If I was actually able to you know, watch 3 in 3-D like it was originally done in theatres, it would win though.
The DVDs in the new Paramont released boxed set will be better but they're not exactly as special as we wanted them-only some have cut scenes, only some have extras, and the discs are two siders.
Keep in mind since it's paramont no Jason Goes to Hell or Jason X(which both sucked ass anyway) or Freddy vs. Jason(which you gotta review, Matt-they're two childhood icons facing off!).

I'm sure I'll get to that game eventually, but I'd like to give it the "Jaws" treatment and make sure I hit all of the points -- that game's a little tougher, so experiencing every last nuance again will take a bit longer.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 06/18/2004 04:56 PM EST
Yeah...to borrow a quote from Maddox's site, that game is harder than nipples on a blind lesbian in a fish market. I never got very far in it because someone was always being attacked by Jason and it was always on the other side of the camp. Plus, most of your counselors were a bunch of suck-ass pussies except for two of them...and you never wanted to use them right away in the game...but if you didn't, Jason would always go after them...cripes that's another flood of memories to my brain. that game was a bitch. yeah good luck writing that one up. take care.
Chestnuts roasted by Clint @ 06/18/2004 08:02 PM EST
Okay kids, this is where I mark out and get all fan boy on your asses. I am a huge Friday the 13th fan. Matt is dead on the money with part 4. Of course for my money there is nothing better than Friday the 13th Part 3-D on DVD where it's not in 3-D! Imagine crappy site gags such as: Yo-yo in the face, snake jumps out to bite you, and popcorn in the face! WOW! You have no idea how crappy this all is without the added benefit of 3-D.
Top 5 Part 3-D moments
5. Jason gets his hockey mask.
4. Shelly: Shelley is the fat, curly haired prankster who gets no play and then dies horribly in a "would have been cool if I didn't see the string", death scene.
3. Jason rapes the lead heroine. (well not actually but, it's implied)
2.The cheesy disco remix of the Friday theme that runs during the credits. If this is not enough for you to run out and cop this disc, nothing will.
1.THE BARN OF DOOM: Every freakin' person who walks into this barn bites it. There is no logical explanation for it. No one can resist going into this barn. I don't even know how the makers of this installment could justify so many deaths in this stinky old barn. It must be seen to be believed.
Hopefully, with the Friday the 13th boxset (chapters 1-8) we will get some cool extras. However I doubt we'll see part 3-D anytime soon. I guess a boy can dream. Matt you have done well.
