04/22/2004 Entry: "Polls and Spaceballs."

This assignment was almost mine, but it went to Brian because he's less of a social retard. Click here to check out an interactive trivia game starring Michael Winslow of Police Academy and Spaceballs fame, who unleashes the total power of his famous mouthy sound effects and challenges the public to guess what he's imitating. Pretty cool shit. I had a chance to see the full videos at the office, and this guy is just amazingly talented. Definitely worth a look.

Got an e-mail requesting this review, but I've already done it, so let's make it a past article spotlight. Around this time last year, I posted a review of the My Pet Monster live-action video. Unbelievably odd, stupid and charming, it features an inarguably ugly child improving his look by channeling ancient spirits to transform himself into a flea market child-greeter who growls and eats paper. Based on the dolls of the same name, the review also includes a few vid clips.

Let's get another survey going. Hmmm. Okay, in the comments section, tell us something we don't know about you. Could be something big, could be something trivial. Starting with the latter: I'm left-handed.

I am a member of one of the oldest War Dance societies in America, if not the oldest. It continued openly even during the government crackdown on things like the Ghost Dance, and most of the Sun Dances being held at the time. Also, buffalo is good eatin'!

10 out of 10 baby! I can now put on my resume that I am a proud graduate of the Micheal Winslow Academy for the Gifted. That has a nice ring to it.

I'm 25, 6', left-handed (wooo!), but suffer from agoraphobia and claustraphobia. I enjoy foreign films, indie music, and Gilmore Girls (like Kool in KC, I am a male who is not afraid to admit this). I have lived within one block from a bar for the past six out of seven years, despite living at five different residences. But this is New Orleans, and you can't spit without hitting a bar.

One time me and my little brother got in a fight, and I bit him several times. He ran and showed the bite marks to my parents, and I was punished severely. While I sat in my room fuming because I got in trouble and my brother didn't, I had the genius idea to BITE MYSELF, and then show my parents and tell them my brother did it. So I spent about ten minutes sitting there chewing on myself, and ran to show Mom and Dad. They told me to go back to my room and stop biting myself.

Something nobody knows... um, at least one of my ex-girlfriends is now a lesbian. I was kinda disappointed that I was already dating somebody when my best friend got married, because I could've hooked up with one of those bridesmaids sooooo easily. I'm one of the top 5 Speed Quarters players in this hemisphere, but I suck at Beer Pong and could never figure out Zoom-Schwartz-Pfigliano. And there's at least one shirtless (and hairless) picture of me on the internet. I'm so ashamed.

For more interesting tidbits on me, I have the following:

1. Freshman year at school, I hooked up with two girls at the same time. (It's college, kids.) I only told one person about it (swear to you); however, in a matter of a month, my sister, two states away, found out about it. Then, the following semester, I met a dude in my dorm with the same name as me, and, later during that initial meeting, he told me that his friends back home (also a few states away) had accused him of hooking up with two girls at the same time the previous semester. Hmmm, I had to shed a little light on my acquaintance's confusion.

2. I streaked through campus one night my junior year (as I had a tendency to do)... a few months later while visiting home, my former youth minister at my church approached me and said he had heard that I was streaking through the French Quarter. I am quite impressed with how word travels in the deep south.

Ok, that is just all kinds of wrong.

Let's see, I'm right handed, married, three kids (all girls), live in CT (there seem to be quite a few of us New Englanders here - long days and pleasant nights).
I'm a SAHM (stay at home mom) and I homeschool my children. Surprisingly, I am neither a religious zealot nor do I live in a hippie commune. I just believe that I know my kids better than anyone else, and there's nothing in school to learn that I can't teach them myself (w/o the added cons of bullying, peer pressure, No Student Left Behind laws and condescending teachers). We belong to enough playgroups, storytimes and play dates to make your head spin. It's probably my area, but there are qctually quite a few of us around here.

Trivial: I hate soggy bread. I put hot sauce on my macaroni and cheese. I've been in love w/ Sean Astin ever since he played Mikey on The Goonies, and even married someone who looks just like him (now, not when he played Mikey).

I have the gene to roll my tongue like a cat can and I also lucked out compared to my brothers in the hair department in that I got my hair from my maternal grandfather who never really went bald. Also, I may have Asperger's... my brother thinks I do. It would explain my ability to recall details about 80s kids shows and commercials more lucidly than most people my age can; of course, that's hardly a unique ability amongst the sort of people who would be interested in a site like this in the first place, and I wouldn't claim that most of you reading this would have Asperger's.

Also, my brother, John, almost made it onto You Can't Do That On Television, but, after the audition, CJOH only made a handful of new episodes before pulling the plug for good. He's studying at film school and wants to be a director.

I used to watch the show all of the time when I was a kid, on Global. For a while, it was almost as common as Inspector Gadget, which leads me to believe the show might have been Canadian.

My buddies and I are probably the only persons on this Planet to have WALKED-OUT of the movie theater during the first-night run of the first episode of Star Wars in our neighborhood....

Reason? 1) Three rounds of Bowling before the movie; 2) Plus or minus four brewskies apiece; 3) 10:15 PM showing; Equals four somnambulent drunkards. None of us could keep our eyes open during the movie even though we could sense it was going to become a classic.

The funny thing is that it was a unanimous decision among the four of us to leave.

And yes, we went back to see it on the big screen in full...minus the bowling of course.
