First Post? Never heard of this movie

Matt--
You mentioned before that that update bar on the main page was pretty pointless, but are you ever going to take it down? That green beer article was like three years ago.

Matt, where do you find movies like this? Yard sales, Ebay, small movie rental stores in the back country woods.
If this is what you buy, I would be scared to see what you throw back.

Please tell me that Matt did not show Angus Scrimm as Kronos and not mention his cult fame as The Tall Man from the Phantasm movies.

Is it just me, or does Munchie look a bit like Adolph Hitler in the first and fourth pictures in this review? With the slicked back black hair, the black mark of his nose, the tan-beige button down shirt. Coincidence? I think not!

Aaaah, Munchie. I can recall walks up and down the isles of our local Mom and Pop video store... always passed by the Munchie sequels... now I'm glad I did.
Quite surprised at no mention of Angus Scrimm as Kronos. Especially with that clip showing him in Tall Man demeanor. The movie would have made my top ten if he got angry and said "Booooooooy!!"

Sometimes Munchie looks like a sort of werewolf-imp thing, but sometimes he looks like my old history teacher from, like, 7th grade.
Why didn't the stupid kid just wish his dad back alive, I wonder?

afred, I have seen R.O.T.O.R., and your assumption is quite possibly correct. On movie channels you can still catch it sometimes. And Matt, you should ALWAYS use Munchie as an excuse. Lack of site updates, spelling errors, traffic accidents, all Munchie's fault.

has anyone else seen a movie with a guy in an ape suit with a space helmet, and he kidnaps a girl and takes her to a cave and he uses a strange radio like device. I think it was called robo-monster. it was in black&white and is probably rather old.

Chestnuts roasted by Rachel Cakes @ 04/08/2004 04:53 AM EST
Ah, yes, the immortal Robot Monster. I like the idea of a monkey with a space helmet as a monster, but sadly Ro-Man (The titular character) has a quite prodigous beer-gut. It sort of kills the menace when the monster is in worse shape then I am.
As for Munchie, he kind of looks like a middle-aged version of the current Honeycomb mascot. He's not as scary as Mac or Nukie, though.

Matt,
Me and some friends are traveling from MD to Jersey in a few weeks to Asbury Park for Skate and Surf fest. It's a three day concert, problem is, day two sold out before we could get our money together.
We are going to day one and day 3, and we were thinking that for day 2 we might venture to Atlantic City. Whats a good place to hang while in Atlantic city. Just looking for assistance from someone who obviously knows it better then I do. Also, about how far is asbury park from atlantic city. According to my calculations, the hotal says we are 5 miles away from long island so we are in "pretty northern" Jersey.
Thanks

I find it hard to believe that this movie was made. In 1992 no less. I thought we had learned from our movie mistakes of the past. But no, they actually wasted precious film on this crap.
It boggles the mind.
Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 04/08/2004 10:04 AM EST
I briefly caught one of those Munchie movies on cable a while back (maybe a USA Saturday noon showing). It's pure shit. The animatronics on the small puppet worked like crap... they musta hooked him up to a system similar to that used for Fats in the Chuck E. Cheese gang... Everytime Munchie opened his mouth or moved his head, he would jerk violently back and forth, looking like a Talking Heads video.
Chestnuts roasted by Nachokhaki @ 04/08/2004 10:17 AM EST
Sprechen of bad movies, there was one I saw on Movie Macabre once about some wild beast killing people in some wooded area where two old biddies lived in a spooky old mansion. After ninety minutes of slight promise about what the creature might be, it turns out to be their brother, who went nuts during the Spanish-American War, and escapes the basement now and then in his tattered uniform. Blorgh.

The video store down the street from where I used to live had Munchie Strikes Back in their "new releases" section for years. The last time I drove by there, they still had a poster for Armageddon in the window.
Now that I think about it, that place was probably a front, much like the deli where you got the antediluvian Fettucine.

Upon reading the review of this cheaply made early 90's kiddie fodder, I recalled a movie my brother rented back in '95 called "Pet Shop". Basic jist of it was these humanoid aliens landed on earth and started a pet shop selling cute little Mogwai-like critters that could morph into ordinary pets. The aliens used the pets to kidnap the children, and hilarity ensued.

Pod People! Time of the Apes! Robert Vaughn as a middle-aged Teenage Cave Man! If it wasn't for the wis-dumb of Joel, Mike, Tom, and Croooow, I would have been scarred by the horrible horror of these films. Or at least I never would have known that other people talked through these films like I do. "I'm huge!"
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 04/08/2004 05:26 PM EST
I saw this film. It wasn't bad, but it was definitely low budget. Munchie was a pretty bad puppet and in fact, you can tell that the puppeteer isn't well hidden since in most scenes, Munchie is against a wall or you see the top half of his body.

Anybody remember 'Mac & Me'? That alien movie where the boy in the wheelchair finds a whole FAMILY of ugly, naked aliens (who do this weird 'family whistle' thing to talk) and needs to save them--- turns out they need to drink COCA-COLA IN ORDER TO SURVIVE! Also, before the end of the movie the aliens and the kid go to a huge party at a McDonalds. I watched it as a kid and loved it....Turns out it was PRODUCED BY COCA-COLA AND MCDONALDS AND THE WHOLE MOVIE WAS BASICALLY A GIANT COMMERCIAL! Found that out the other day- man, I feel so jaded and used :0(

MuppetBaby, I've been begging Matt for a "Mac and Me" review for the better part of year now, but he just won't listen. Its cuz I'm Canadian, I'll bet.

Well I think Munchie is probably the uglies alien of all time, which is quite a feat considering you have things like ET and crap all going for the same title.
Oh ya, and I've been begging since the beginning of time for a Friday 13th review...
Chestnuts roasted by ANdrew @ 04/09/2004 03:30 PM EST
A-wel Cruiz: Well, Trish Stratus, Christian, and Chris Jericho all still retain their Canadian hometowns because Toronto and Winnipeg don't get easily confused with other counties or states.
Chris Benoit, on the other hand, comes from Alberta, which is just like Atlanta, except it isn't, and you can blame whoever's writing Lillian Garcia's cue cards.
As for Gail Kim, they felt she would seem more 'heel' if she acknowledged her Korean heritage over Canada - two heel Divas from Toronto, oh no no no, this will NOT do.
And ON TOPIC: Not that I want Matt to suffer unneccesarily, but I bet he'd feel my pain if he watched "The Black Hole" with Ernest Borgnine and reviewed it so that we can all spread the suffering. AGONY PLUS.

Just did a X-E search on Black Hole and this was from the Go-Bot Sex comments:
http://www.x-entertainment.com/updates/entries/archives/00000197.html
"This reminds me of the dirty scenes in Disney's The Black Hole that I watched again on cable the other night.
In the final fight between the Maximilian robot and V.I.N.CENT. (Roddy McDowell voiced the Vital Information Necessary CENTralized robot according to IMDB.com), Max and Vin are locked in combat and Max's wang pops up to knock Vin off him.
Later, when we see Reinhardt's corpse floating in the Black Hole, he pops up to scare the audience and the next thing you know the Max robot mounts him and they "merge" into a super being that control the humanoids left over in some form of Hell. Although dirty, this ending is still the coolest I have seen in a Disney movie
I will always take The Black Hole over Event Horizon because it has perverted robots and Ernest Borgnine! Reinhardt said it best, 'Something caused all this. But what caused... that cause?'" Posted by Michael @ 07/13/2003 02:14 AM EST

Niq, nononononono. Jericho was just moved to Manhatten, NY, and Trish and Christian, while still billed from Toronto, are heels not babyfaces, as per my original point.
Incidently, Gail Kim was just relocated from Toronto to Korea, and La Resistance were just moved from France to Quebec. Seriously, what the fuck is going on here??? If Edge is introduced from L.A. in the near future, I'm gonna flip out. Does this company realize their next PPV is in Canada?

I really wonder what posesses people to make bad Direct-to-Video movies, unless they're Disney and can afford to lose a couple thou.
I've noticed that most of the bad DTV children's movies are made by companies out in Canada, probibly filming across from the latest Power Rangers series.
I do remember seeing one of those movies on HBO and it had to do something with the return of Merlin or one of King Arthur's knights and it had the dude who played Stiles in Teen Wolf. That was pretty bad...
