02/18/2004 Entry: "I'm home."

Well, I'm finally home. From Sunday till just a little while ago, I was in the city for the annual International Toy Fair, where companies from all around the world debut their upcoming playthings for the press and the buyers to see. There was a lot of really, really great stuff. I got to catch up on some other things right now, but check out the first small bit on coverage on UGO here. The best is definitely yet to come, as we had a team there to shoot videos of all the new toys. Wait till you see the Transformers crap. Oh, my new favorite company in the world is NECA -- check out my feature on 'em here. I'll be back in a bit...

Wow that stay puft guy sure is amazing, why has it taken so long for me to hear of NECA?

They used to do lunchboxes and all that other kinda stuff...you know, Spencer's specials. Now they're moving forward and seriously kicking ass. Really, even if you include Hasbro, nobody's showroom impressed me more.

Kill Bill toys!!! YEAH!!!

Chestnuts roasted by D @ 02/18/2004 01:17 PM EST

I second the enthusiasm on the Kill Bill toys... I want the lunchbox. Do you know if they are making a Gogo action figure? She was so cool.

Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 02/18/2004 01:29 PM EST

All I can say is that from the way NECA was talking, anything that seems cool that would need a Tarantino OK-stamp to be created will be created in time. It seems like they've got a terrific relationship.

I can't wait to get my hands on the Ghostbusters stuff :) It looks awesome.

BooYah-Ha! The Destructor is come! If they ask if you're a god? SAY YES!

Gozer the Gozerian.

I want to see a toy made of a large and moving Torg.

And, come on, who doesn't want to see their least favorite action figure roasted in the depths of the giant Slor!

Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 02/18/2004 02:28 PM EST

As long as I get one of the new gigantic Unicron's then I'm satisfied, the TF figures I've seen so far look unbelievable. Me Grimlock love new toys, more than petro-rabbits.

Ack! In the gallery of Family Guy they have "The Dog". It's BRIAN! His name is Brian!

What the hell, I want Vigo the Carparthian too!

I know it's been a really, really long time, but many of us would still like to see the non-winning Photog art if possible.

Chestnuts roasted by Photog's Love Child @ 02/18/2004 02:50 PM EST

Vigo, Vigo, Vigo...You've been a bad MONKEY!

Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 02/18/2004 02:55 PM EST

I've always wanted a GhostBusters sequel about someone opening a franchise in San Francisco, a town rife with spirit potential. That is one big ChocoDile.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 02/18/2004 03:23 PM EST

San Francisco. That's where Vigo the Butch is from.

Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 02/18/2004 03:28 PM EST

They're going to make an action figure of me ? Do I get a cut? If not I will cause destruction of biblical proportions ! Cats and dogs living together ! Mwaa ha ha !

Chestnuts roasted by Gozer @ 02/18/2004 03:41 PM EST

Chestnuts roasted by Jared @ 02/18/2004 04:00 PM EST

It makes me mad as hell knowing that most probably none of these are going to find their way into this frozen hell I so affectionately call home, located conveniently in northern europe. holy f*ck.

Chestnuts roasted by iivuli @ 02/18/2004 04:01 PM EST

That skeletor figure is awesome!

Chestnuts roasted by heeloyd @ 02/18/2004 04:40 PM EST

That's the first time I ever thought Clawful looked.. imposing and even a bit menacing.

Nice to see the companies finally realized that the '80s was when all the good stuff was. :p

Man I'd kill for the special award, the fragile leg lamp! I want glowing sex to be at my window. That's classic.

I'd also take one of those Michael Myers bobbleheads.

mas photog por favor

Chestnuts roasted by valarie @ 02/18/2004 05:13 PM EST

Whoa, you were at the toy fair. I'm totally printing out a picture of you and showing my friend's mom, all "DId you see this man!?" and if she did, I will be forever envious.

Chestnuts roasted by Evin @ 02/18/2004 05:20 PM EST

What? No pics of Matt bowing before the mighty gods of plastic?

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 02/18/2004 05:53 PM EST

I was looking at the other articles on the site and no one seemed to have any passion. Yours is the only one more than a paragraph long. Go You!

Chestnuts roasted by mindsuckr @ 02/18/2004 07:05 PM EST

I want the humming and dancing Gizmo! I got a plush santa-suit wearing Gizmo for Christmas, but a humming AND dancing one?! That is spectacular!

I have to say, this site makes me feel better about still liking toys. I'm glad I'm not the only one who still enjoys going to toy stores and what not. :)

i cant wait for those family guy toys

Nothing against UGO, but if you want coverage of all things Toy Fair right now instead of spaced out throughout the rest of February, I'd check http://www.411mania.com/figures/indextopic.php?figurecode=85
and http://www.afigures.com/g/?mode=album&album=2004_Toy_Fair&dispsize=640&start=0 for galleries of virtually all the madness.

If you want to see a cute, kid-friendly versions of top Spiderman villains, see the Spiderman & Friends gallery in the Toybiz folder. I swear, that's the most adorable Dr Octopus I've ever seen.

Anyhow, congrats to Matt for actually going to Toy Fair. I'd be there if I could, dudes.

Once again, my sweet dreams of Air Supply action figures have been crushed. Chances are I will never see a plastic Graham and Russel.

Chestnuts roasted by Bruce @ 02/18/2004 10:13 PM EST

I saw a contest on TV to win a $2000 shopping spree at Toys R Us and got really excited, but then I found it was only for people ages 8 to 14. How tragic.

Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 02/19/2004 02:40 AM EST

Oh good God, I want those Cenobites. I'm not a big fan of the Hellraiser movies other than these creatures of hell. And the Cenobite that no one remembers, he was in the second Hellraiser. I think he was a doctor who was into mutilating all his patients. Something like that. I always enjoyed the 'chattering' Cenobite... freaky shit.

Chestnuts roasted by Nachokhaki @ 02/19/2004 09:26 AM EST

My favorite Cenobite was the guy that shot CDs out of his head.

Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 02/19/2004 10:15 AM EST

You're right, Stilewalker. I think the 'multimedia' Cenobite was the one that made the first big impression on me and really made me take notice of the Hellraiser series. This is, of course, with the exception of Pinhead.

Chestnuts roasted by Nachokhaki @ 02/19/2004 11:04 AM EST

And is that an Ash Williams bobblehead I see? You're right, Matt. This figures rawk. I woulda totally lost my sh*t at this stand.

Speaking of Ash, otherwise known as Bruce Campbell, did anyone see Bruce's latest one, Bubba Hotep? It was in and out of the theaters in like a week, I swear. But I guess that's what happens when you decide prior to its release that your movie is going to be a cult classic.

Chestnuts roasted by Nachokhaki @ 02/19/2004 11:10 AM EST

I'm currently working on an Ash costume for Halloween next year. I've got just about everything, but it is hard to find a decent toy sawed off shotgun. Making the Chainsaw hand is not too tough, though.
How was Bubba Hotep?

Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 02/19/2004 11:30 AM EST

I want the HellRaiser puzzle box.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 02/19/2004 11:34 AM EST

I want to be Sailor Mars for Halloween, but I need a good costume, not a crappy one, so we'll see what happens. And I'm not sure if wearing a skirt that short is a good idea while drinking heavily...

Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 02/19/2004 12:57 PM EST

Stilewalker - I unfortunately did not get a chance to catch Bubba Hotep when it came out. I guess I'll have to wait a couple of months and rent it, or buy it, at a specialty video shop. And no surprise you can't find a toy shotgun anywhere. For some reason, figures of authority don't dig on accurate reproductions of boomsticks.

Kingklash - If you want a puzzlebox, there is a link in cenobite.com to some stores that sell it... I haven't really perused the gallery, so I can't tell you what's there. If nothing else, they're pretty cool to look at.

Gabby - You may be onto something there with mixing Sailor Mars with alkyhol! ;)
