01/27/2004 Entry: ""Battle of the Rock Lords," and LIME COKE!"

There wasn't a new article to kick off the week yesterday, but I hope the fact that this one is 55,000 words makes up for it. Here's my review of "The Battle of the Rock Lords," a Go-Bots movie that introduces a whole new legion of rocky characters and long-tongued fur-covered dragon cuties. You're probably associating that "Go-Bots" connection with crap, but it really wasn't a bad little flick. I collected the Rock Lords toys, and this was the only way to see 'em animated. Not sure if that was worth the full-blown 90 minute treatment, but whatever, I'm still glad it's out there. Definitely worth picking up. And by the way...

This new Coke WID LIMA shit is fantastic. I got used to the phony lemon flavoring (actually prefer it over the original, non-fruitified version), but the lime is sooo much better. Way more natural. Besides, everyone loves limes. Admit it, you eat limes. Raw. You cut them in half and chomp on the skin, letting the heavenly acids flow forth like a river of sour. Now you can have that wonderful feeling and tack Coca Cola on top. Who could ask for anything more? I doubt it'll be around forever -- regular Coke, lemon Coke, lime Coke -- something's gotta give. Buy it while you can. Drink it while it's lime.

I have heard the exact opposite. One drink and throws the can across the room because of the nastiness. Not my opinion because I wont drink Diet Coke. I'd throw it across the room just for the diet taste.

I guess you have to be a lime loyalist. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/27/2004 08:15 AM EST

I like Diet taste. Is this Nectar of the Zods available in Canada? If so, I must head out and buy a bag of Lime Tostitos and a flat of Lime Coke to impress my girlfriend with my insanity, real quick like.

Chestnuts roasted by Molten @ 01/27/2004 08:16 AM EST

Not sure where it's available, but if you get stuck, e-mail me and I'll send off a six-pack.

Lime Tostitos...well, I sorta drew my lime-line there. I'm not sure why they considered a massive attack of salt and bitters as being "lime flavored," but then again, I only tried 'em once.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/27/2004 08:18 AM EST

They could always combine to make lemon-lime coke! That's all I got

Chestnuts roasted by Mark @ 01/27/2004 08:36 AM EST

Yeah, I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about Lime Tostitos the first time I had them and I didn't think I'd have 'em again. I'd heard mixed things about them, and when I had my first one I thought that it was a bizarre mix of salt and sugary key lime. But, since it takes me about a month to get through a bag of chips, I had plenty of time to change my mind. So, I like them, but it's true that they don't taste like lime lime. If they have lime Jelly Bellies, those probably taste more like lime lime.

Also, I'm the only one who doesn't hate GoBots. :( The first time GoBots came up (in the context of that, er, "intimate" scene) it took me a while to remember them (unlike Transformers, which you just don't forget) but I remember watching GoBots with my neighbour before we'd go to school and actually liking it.

By the way, for any Jem! and the Holograms fans, there's a claim that Rhino is going to be putting out some DVDs (click my name for the source). Evidently, Rhino held a snail mail write-in to see if there was enough interest, and soon cut off the write-in, because they got quite a few letters.

Chestnuts roasted by Molten @ 01/27/2004 08:44 AM EST

Rhino rocks. Didn't they put the Inhumanoids on DVD, too? More importantly, Chris Elliot's "Get A Life." They're not marketing towards the biggest clientele, but they're certainly working for people like us.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/27/2004 08:50 AM EST

limes should be reserved for corona and juggling only. Not for mixing with carbonated non-alcoholic beverages.

I can't beleive you reviewed Rock Lords. In college my friends and I rented that movie, knowing full well that it was going to be bad...boy did we underestimate. I especially love the theme song to the movie. (or maybe it was the toy line, I can't remember)

Rock lords,
Rocks that come alive
Rock Lords,
Powerful LIVING ROCKS!!!!!!

All i gotta say is "WHO LOVES YA, BABY??" Telly Sevalis R.I.P. So should this movie. I have an extreme bias against Go-Bots and this movie made my hatred grow. On the plus side I'm glad you gave a shout-out to Frank Welker. If I could be HALF as succesful as he was doing animal and just plain fucked up voices I could die a happy man, seriously.
As for lime Diet Coke I heard about it about week or so ago (my bro is a manager at the CVS down the street) and I just KNEW it would land here soon enough. Can't say I am really tempted by its artificial sweetness. I much prefer my caffeine source being a healthy portion of espresso. (Ah, yes....ANOTHER reason to hate the Go-Bots movie, metal eating coffee beans?) But then again being employed at the local coffee shop and being a coffee fanatic would definitely skew my views a wee bit.

Ahhhh yes I almost forgot. Telly Sevalis also ruled because he was the president of The Player's Club. I know this just involves gamblers but it sounds like something Puff Daddy or Jay-Z would start. Man, I'm so frickin cheesey......

About 2 weeks ago, I was on a trip to Brazil for a scholars program, and as a Diet Coke addict, I had become really proud of my skill to order "Coca-Cola Lite." However, Guarana is the big drink there, so sometimes there was no CCL to be found. Much more common? Coca-Cola Lite...CON LIMAO. I tried it, I loved it, I wished for it hear in the States. Guess it finally came true. Personally, I think the lemon flavor tasted disturbingly like what I imagine Lemon Pledge tastes like...

last year runts did a dick move repackaged teh shit, and took out lime to replaced it with watermelon and added on blue berry
and both arent that great, i know this one dollor tree that still sells the classic 5 runts (Orange, Strawberry, Banana, Cherry, Lime)
while the first 4 flavors are stull there, with a six piece that means less strawberry and banana pieces!

Go bots, mighty robots, mighty vehicles, GO BOTS!

Theme to the commercial or something, not sure how it got ingrained into my pathetic brain but it did. Even if your movie sucked, I will never forget you GO BOTS! Too bad all the ones I have are decaying in my basement somewhere. Funny how the main good guy is called Leader-1, and now in the new transformers there's a mini-con with that name....Ponder that...

Chestnuts roasted by Ronald McTurdburgler @ 01/27/2004 11:36 AM EST

I checked on the site just to see if there was new stuff up, and I thought, "Oh dear God, GO-BOTS?! I wouldn't have been caught dead with one of those second-rate, bastardized Transformers." But I read the review anyway because I knew Matt would rip it apart.

Then I saw a picture of Cy-Kill, and I am ashamed to say that I MAY have owned the respective action figure. I might have owned Crasher, too. Or maybe the truth is less hidious- maybe I just saw the movie and I can't remember.

But that Tim Curry-Rocky Horror Picture Show-transvestive face is alarmingly familiar...

Chestnuts roasted by Night_Trekker @ 01/27/2004 11:37 AM EST

Kenner, Hasbro, and Tonka consumed each other and now TransFormers owns GoBots. When the writers wanted female GoBots, they just gave them feminine faces and girl voices. I have only one Rock Lord, and it be Nugget. I still want the Jewel Lord Solitaire. She was the only toy out of that line that had a female build. And waht was the deal with Turbo peppering his dialog with "Wuuhh" every third line? GoBoTron?

STOP EFFECTING MY REALITY MATT!

I swear Matt is warping my universe and implanting little things from his articles into my house. I will explane-
I was looking in my garrage through some stuff I packed away years ago a few days after Matt's worst boardgames ever post and lo and behold I found a crappy game. It would end at a stange ka-wink-i-dink if the subject of this game did not just HAPPEN to be mentioned in the very next article.

Yes Folks. I have a near mint condition....(Drum roll)...Kojak game. Sitting here as I post this is Mr Savalis's shining dome is smiling back at me warping my mind with his sweet "Who loves ya baby."

Now what gets even stanger is the fact that I have never seen a single Kojak episode, nor do I have any otherworld intrest in all thing Savalis. I have never shoped at a flee market nor have I ordered anything other then Dnd stuff off of E-bay. I have never recived a non-electronic boardgame from a relitive other then Risk.

So the only logical reason for it to be there is that Matt drove five hours one way to my house, got past my three dogs, opened my garage without tripping the alarm, planted the game just in the palce I would look and drove home in time to write a article that somehow inculded a Savalis referance all just-

TO WARP MY MIND!!!

/gets taken away by nice strong men in clean white coats.....

I actually liked gobots when i was a kid. Nowhere near as much as i liked transformers though. But matt is right crasher was the best gobot of them all.

On another note many of the gobot toys were from a japanese line of toys based on the anime Machine Robo. It was basically about this planet of sentient robots. some were just robots that turned into vehciles, but otheres looked like humans who would turn into robot like power rangers.

Crasher reminded me of that one Scooby doo villain, the Diabolical Disc Demon for some reason.
http://www.execulink.com/~joelb/scooby/episodes/picswher/tddd.htm
Even the same electronic garbled voice stylings.

IIRC it seems she/he had the only weapon the Go-bots feared. That stomp which sent energy along the ground after them. Though I though they could all fly... making that attack moot.

Bumblebee would kick the hell out of Scooter, who kicked the hell out of that other robot scooter thing, T-Bob from M.A.S.K.
Viscious cycle... -_-

Any time Marvel did a 'girls' show, i had to check it out because of the little twists they would put in. The wicked-looking centaur with the voice of the narrator from TransFormers in my Little Pony was a great example. So, was Synergy's programming based on Jem's mother?

I actually prefered Go-Bots over Transformers when I was a kid. It seemed to me that they were made of sturdier materials, and their tranformations seemed more imaginative then Transformers. My Scooter figure was my all-time favorite toy in Kindergarden, but I lost him at some point. Then there was this Renagade figure who transformed into the coolest looking Drill Tank you ever saw. I still have that one, but it's missing a leg. There was also this cool Train guy. Bet you never saw a train Transfomer! Man, I loved Go-Bots!

And not only that, but of all the Transformers, Bumblebee was actually my favorite. Go figure. Go Bot. Go Bot figure.

I've actually been considering it more and more, though I don't think I'd have time to review them in the way I review, well, everything else. Maybe short synopsisisisies or something. If anyone happens to have all the episodes tapes (preferably on video or VCD...hate the comp files), lemme know!

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/27/2004 02:51 PM EST

I didn't really feel like reading all of the above comments, so I just thought I'd touch on soft drinks and Go-Bots real quick.

The only Coke products I can stand are Cherry Coke and Vanilla Coke. Other than that, it's Pepsi for me, but maybe I'll give the lime stuff a try.

I never watched Go-Bots, although I'm sure I probably had some of the action figures, I was all about things that transform into other things when I was a kid, just because I was into Voltron and Transformers. I even had some of those McDonalds things. I probably still have them in my Grandma's attic.

Hey, speaking of my Grandma's attic, Matt, I know you hate having anybody else do any work on your site, but I'd be honored if you let me and the S5P crew do a review of the VCR WrestleMania game for you. It'll give me and the guys something to do other than bitch about the fact that nobody's doing anything stupid enough to get on the idiocy timeline lately (Although I'm sure I can include Howard Dean). I love articles that thrust me back into my youth. I think back to the days when my brother and I would walk up to the drug store up the street to check on the newest little Transformers and GI Joes. The store was called Drug Fair amusingly enough. They overcharged for everything but it was the only place besides the supermarket and the convenience store that we were allowed to walk to. That place sucked and yet it also was the best place in the known universe. It has been gone for many years which is sad because I still have nightmares I am trapped there and can't find the sodas.

Me and my best friend as a kid both had them and yes we're both girls. :) We LOVED those little things and actually played Narlie family making the Narlies have sex and everything (yes were sick disturbed children). She had a cool aqua blue one with pink fur/hair and I had the ugly one that's seen in the picture in your review with the elephant snout and grey fur. In fact it's amazing I did love something that looked that ugly..oddly enough I was never into Go Bots though. I was a Transformers gal. This as nothing to do with Go-Bots but just robots in general. I am looking for the name for of the Robot with the ad were he tells you "Peanut is not a pea or a nut." I hated that robot with a passion but I wanted one. I can't think of the name of it.

Chestnuts roasted by Oreogirl @ 01/27/2004 05:07 PM EST

Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure Nugget was the one and only member of the Go-Bot series me and my brother owned. I loved to use Nugget to bowl over the other robots and little plastic army men (despite how incredibly inaccurate he was at rolling). And of course Nugget's shininess was like a boon granted from heaven itself.

I even remember seeing the Go-Bots movies a bit. However it was so unspectacular at the time the memory is long drowned out by better movie experiences. Like how I laughed my head off at the severed arm scene in Jurassic Park when my class went to see it at the end of grade 9. I still find that bit funny to this day.

Plus, I really wish they made non-diet lime Coke. Coca-Cola is my favourite type of pop, but I can't stand diet. Not even to humour it like I do with Pepsi.

Actually, I collect Go Bots along side my Transformers collection.

In many cases, the old Go Bot toys beat the snot out the Transformers, at least in the minicar scale.

See, in Japan Go Bots had a much better show called Machine Robo. It was popular enough that these days they have a sequel to it called Machine Robo Rescue with cel shaded CGI robots and such. (Which is probably why the newest Transformers cartoon, known as Energon in the US, or Super Link in Japan does the same thing, but has a bit more mature of a storyline than Machine Robo Rescue does..)

Don't hate the Gobots. Hate how Tonka took some kickass robot toys and made them suck via an awful ass cartoon show.

I'm sure he's an excellent actor, I don't remember what movies of his I've seen, although I still don't think he'll make a good Wonka, but I think the reason for that is that I'm both a fan of Gene Wilder and Marilyn Manson. The movie is set in the G1 Era, so obviously the will look more or less the same as the old days, though Megatron will be a problem since they won't able to make a toy of him if he turns into a gun (US toy laws and all).

Optimus Prime's movie design will most likely be based off this, Masterpiece Convoy aka 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime:

First off, I didn't recognize it at first, but as I read Matt's review, I slowly began to realize I'd seen these characters before. I don't remember having seen the movie, but I know my sisters and I watched "The Go-Bots" on a regular basis. I think we may even have had some of the toys, which were easier to find in southern New Jersey than the far-more-popular (and pricier) Transformers.

There was at least one Go-Bots Happy Meal for McDonald's in the mid-80s. We had the toys for years. I distinctly recall finding hours (or at least minutes) of enjoyment in transforming and re-forming a small, blue-and-gray jet-plane thing.

I've seen the Diet Coke with Lime at the Acme grocery store where I work. I'm not a fan of Diet Coke or Pepsi - both taste like a few bubbles floating around in liquid Sweet n' Low - so it's unlikely I'll be indulging in green citrus Coke unless they come out with a sugared version.

However, I do like lime Tostitos. I'm not a chips fan in general, but I like the heady combination of salt and sour.

When it comes to the Transformers movie it has a positive and a negative going for it.

Positive
Tom DeSanto: htp://imdb.com/name/nm0220892/

Negative (When it comes to comic adaptations)
Don Murphy: http://imdb.com/name/nm0006613/

Chestnuts roasted by ME @ 01/27/2004 09:36 PM EST

Tom DeSanto is an avid fan and will most likely at least write the story.

Don Murphy made Double Dragon, but is nice enough to listen to what the fans think on his message board I posted above.

Just to let everybody know,Go-Bots are still around, but as a pre-school Transformers line.

Does anybody remember this Go-Bots magazine they had back in the day, like the G.I. Joe and He-Man ones that had posters, letters from kids and such? I'll admit I read that, only becuase I had a mild interest in Go-Bots. One thing I remember from that mag was they said Go-Bots don't die when injured, they self-repair or somesuch,so no going out in a blaze of glory for Leader-1 like Optimus Prime.

The new upcoming Transformers: Superlink/Energon show is fairly violent. Autobots die left, right and center.
Some poor guy is blown to bits by Tidal Wave and his severed arm lands in front of Hot Shot. Not sure if they will edit that sort of thing out in the US version.

Excellent animation and story pacing, though.

Watch for Energon on the Cartoon Network on the 31st of January.

I actually remember a Go-Bot that transformed by behinding him in half - think his name was Tank. That's it, bend him in half so that it looked like he was blowing himself. Wait a second - that's the best damned transforming capability out there...

Garfield live-action, Transformers live-action - you gotta love the trend. Jem - probably could do a good porno with this one. What about Inhumanoids? WHAT ABOUT INHUMANOIDS? Holy Mother of Fucker, Jesus and Christ - What about Inhumanoids? Oh man, that's the codeine talking whilst I wait for an appointment to get a root canal to end the pain...

Anyways, Matt, you have to take a look at Sky Commanders. Okay - decent toy, but what a fucked-up storyline they created just so they could get their half-hour commercial on TV. New continents, Theta-7, gravity-lock and lift-cable technology??? For a piece of string, two eye-hooks and an old Rebel Soldier action figure? Wow...

After thinking about Sky Commanders, I'm glad today's cartoons like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh aren't nearly as commercial.

On the whole Diet Coke with Lime thing...
I would love to try it, I heard it's good, but I absolutely will not drink diet coke (diet anything, for that matter). No offense to all you diet-beverage-ers out there, but I think it tastes like crap. Unfortunately, it's the only thing my mother has had to drink for the past eighteen years, unless she's sick. I don't get it. Oh well. That's my 2 cents.

That's the strangest thing. Yesterday, there just happened to be limes and Pepsi in the same place, so I thought I'd stir up some craziness and squeeze the lime into my drink. The idea had never even entered my head until yesterday, and now, here it is on X-E. I realize that this is Coke and that I'm sort of being ridiculous, but it's still some sort of small victory in my mind.

All these live action movies are depressing me. Ever since the live action "How The Grinch Stole Christmas," which was horrible (although, the Cat in the Hat wasn't all that bad). My best friend and co-owner of stupid5pin.com, turtle, he's gonna be stoked when he finds out there's a Yu-Gi-Oh! movie coming out, although I'm sure he already knows. And to Killer Duck, who suggested I make a porn site with the domain name that I have no idea what to do with, I want to let you know that the idea is being tossed about, but we won't be using toyaction.net if it does come to fruition. See, FRUITion. Limes are fruit. Therefore, I just completely turned this post into something somewhat relevant to the subject of Matt's blog.

Lastly, to Matt, I'm flying out to Chicago this week to be a defendant on "Judge Mathis." I think I should tell you when it's going to be on so you can do a review of the episode on x-e. That would be cool.

I sit here this morning with a bottle of regular Pepsi, because I know that no matter what kind of flavors they put out, it will pale in comparison to the original. I say this from experience: (in the words of bob sagat, "in no particular order") Crystal Pepsi, Pepsi Twist, Pepsi Blue, Vanilla Pepsi, Pepsi One, and I'm sure there's a lot more I'm forgetting. As for Coke, I've never liked original Coke. I do like Vanilla Coke (in small amounts) and Cherry Coke, and I wouldn't mind trying the lime stuff if they made it in anything other than diet.

I just want to know if I'm insane or if anybody else remembers a kids show in the 80's called "Bill Cosby's Picture Page"? I have the logo from the show on my computer, the show was Bill Cosby drawing stuff or doing mazes or something like that. Please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers that.

see, I knew I wasn't crazy! Somebody else remembers it too! And for those of you who have no clue what about Bill Cosby's Picture Page, I did a quick search on google for it and came up with the following site:

http://rasafrats.tripod.com/ppages.html

I was doing this talk show project for some friends of mine in college a couple years back, and the topic was the 80's, so we talked about Transformers the Movie and stuff like that, and then I said, "oh yeah, and Picture Page!" and everybody just kinda looked at me funny.

Chestnuts roasted by Skitzo from stupid5pin.com @ 01/28/2004 08:42 AM EST

I remember Picture Page too. Wasn't his marker accompanied by a Sideshow Bobesque slide whistle or some other musical sound whenever he would draw a line? I wonder how much the Cos got for this gig...

Also, there was a live-action stage production of Jem in some Canadian cities almost a year ago, and, though I didn't get a chance to see it, my friend mailed me some reviews which said it was mostly so-so. Personally, I was just surprised that there was a Jem revue and it wasn't put on by drag queens. Not that I wouldn't love to see a drag queen revue of Jem: that's probably what was missing the first time.

Heh. Go-Bots. Brings back memories. Transformers were so expensive that I went for Gobots instead. I had almost all of them... (never could find Cy-Kill or Leader-1). They were pretty cool. How many playsets, after all, include a vaporization chamber? Or an obnoxious alarm?

And for the record, those Go-Bot "happy meals" were from Wendy's. I know since I got the space shuttle one on a zoo trip, where there was a Wendy's at the center.

Go-Bots weren't bad toys, they just lacked the storyline that Transformers had. Plus, when I was little, my parents would rather spend a dollar or two on a Go-Bot than five or ten bucks on a Transformer.

Rock Lords are insanely collectible because there's a lot of rare pieces out there. The coolest by far is this combiner piece that merges into a dinosaur! Check it out:

Yesterday when I was frothing up a cappucino at work I pondered the idea of having and x-entertainment "family reunion" or or an X-entertainment convention. Just think of the possibilities!! 1) Lime Diet Coke is evil because it's replaced Vanilla DC in the cafeteria at my place of business. Vanilla was the only "diet" soda I'd drink, so now I'm gonna be fat AND IT'S ALL LIME'S FAULT!!!! Okay, not really, but I WILL have to hit the gym just that much more often. Bah. Damn you, lime!

2) I don't know why, but I was confusing in my mind the Rock Lords with those Stone-Dar warriors or whatever from He-Man. Having read that article, though, I can now remember having had both the mohawked bad guy AND Nuggit. Now, aside from my shame at having owned TWO Rock Lords, I now have to devote my life to regaining a Nuggit figure, because that shiny gold is just too alluring for words. Double damn you, Matt!

The Psychic booth is still around. Fat Daddy's on the other end of the Boardwalk, but he's still there. Heck, the lady who he took the picture of giving him the licorace pipe was still working in the same candy store last summer. Dracula's Castle is, sadly, not still there. It burned down two years ago. : 0 (

I remember Picture Pages. My sisters and I spent many a Sunday morning, summer morning, and mornings home sick watching "Pinwheel," with "Picture Pages" during the commerical breaks. It was such a fun concept, and the pen was too cute. I loved when it came to life and solved the puzzle before Bill came back.

Oooohhh...also meant to mention I'm a devoted Sailor Moon fan. I don't have nearly the episodes I'd like to have (they're kind of pricy on video), but I do own four fashion-type dolls (Neptune, Uranus, Moon, Chibi/Mini Moon) and one stuffed doll (Moon). Kay Bee's been having big sales on their Sailor Moon toys, God bless them! I may look for the fashion dolls online, too. I think they're too cool. I love how Neptune, Uranus, and Chibi/Mini Moon have such different faces. Chibi/Mini Moon's eyes are more oval and detailed than her "mother"'s. Uranus' eyes are narrower and almond-shaped. Neptune's are somewhat similar, but larger and less narrow.

Has anyone seen the live-action show yet?

I'm about to open another can of worms with this one...I'm sure most of you learned your alphebet with those totally "grooooovy" letter people. I did a little research and found out that the letter people still exist today but they changed them!!! They have been raped of their psychadelic dignity. Most of the changes came about because of political correctness bullshit. How could you forget Mr. M with the munchy mouth? Or Mr. T's taaalllll teeeth? What mostly kicked ass were the 70's funky-fresh theme songs for those letter people. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any mp3s out there but they must exist. Then again I'm sure the people who have the vynils don't have the equipment to rip the songs. I don't know if your school did this but at the end of the year we had a letter people parade. Each child dressed as their favorite letter person. Since my name is Kevin i naturally chose Mr. "kickin" K. I could just imagine a school full of kindergarteners dressed like 70's throwback characters.....silliness!!

I mean, I'm down with it and all (s'long as it's located in the tri-state area), but what would really happen when you gather together than many loners, freaks, geeks, and iconoclasts? Would we be able to actually get along, or are we united solely by our love for Megatron and Jem and the Holograms? Questions for the ages...

Still, a photo page would be cool. As long as I don't get made fun of for having only 3 piercings and normal-colored hair...

First, because, why not? Get my wishes in before it totally slips my old brain. Happy Birthday, Duck! Redeem this comment at a future time for a synchronistic event of your choice. Or a medium value meal at your neighborhood Burger Brawl. (value meal offer not valid on dimensional planes that have Zsa Zsa Gabor) I like the picture idea, make them into paper dolls, then Matt could have the X-E convention in his living room. He could lord over all the tiny poster children like a huge and slightly drunk god. And I wouldn't have to worry about saying something stoopid and getting stomped flat by Duck.

Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 01/29/2004 12:43 PM EST

The paper dolls idea is great. Anybody see the episode of Kids in the Hall where the two latent homosexual highschool kids (Scott Thompson and Mark McKinney) who are way into Hollywood threw their own Hollywood bash? They took face shots of the stars, pasted them onto the bowls of spoons, and put the spoon handles inside empty beer bottles - creating pseudo-bobbleheads...and made them have conversations with each other. Even feigned Liza Minelli throwing up by tipping the remaining contents of the bottle onto the floor. Classic stuff.

Speaking of, whatever happened to M. Jackson's chimp, Bubbles? Bubbles, we hardly knew thee.

Chestnuts roasted by Killer Duck @ 01/29/2004 03:20 PM EST

Jim'll, vanilla coke has actually been around for a long time. Thing is it used to be made at soda fountains by the soda jerks (just love them soda jerks). Since the scene in Pulp Fiction was set in an old fashioned-nostalgia-type soda shop it makes sense that they'd serve old school drinks including vanilla and cherry coks made the old fashioned way.

king-thanks for the Happys...you're 8 days late but I promise not to stomp you.

Speaking of people's pictures, I have round one ready to put on my home site of "my imaginary photo album". I actually started it yesterday but it was sometrhing I had wanted to do for a while. Here is a twisted "Kid Show" for those that remember Letter People/Seame Street. It is a TV pilot made by Vernon Chatman ( http://imdb.com/name/nm0154074/ ) and John Lee for the USA Network, but MTV ordered six episodes of it. Watch at own risk.

There is a cheap, but not quite legal way to get sailor moon dvds.

I just got a bootleg Sailor Moon S dvd set from Cookie Jar Video for $24. It's a rip of the domestic dvds so the subtitles will be of good quality. The other sailor moon dvds they have there are english dub only :(. Cookie jar also has many shows that haven't made it to the US yet or may never make it over here. I've ordered from them many times and can say they are extremely reliable.

Lucky One, I hope piercings and neon-colored hair aren't an X-E requirment, because my hair is the color nature gave me and I only have two piercings, one in each ear. I can't stand pain long enough to get them anywhere else. : 0 P

Bright Noah, thanks for the suggestion, but I'd prefer to keep it legal...and I neither have nor want a DVD player. What's the big deal? So you get a few fancy extras. I want to watch the movie, not 300 shorts about the movie. Many older movies aren't avalible on DVD yet (and movies like "Battle of the Rock Lords" probably never will be), and they ain't cheap, especially for recorders. DVDs also break and scratch far easier than videos. I'll stick to saving for them on my trusty VCR.

Gabby, I love all the Sailor Moon characters (including Raye and her temper : 0 ), but my favorite is Sailor Moon herself. I can be a bit of a crybaby, I wasn't a big fan of studying (though I got decent grades in high school), and I frankly think many of the characters are awfully hard on Serena. Princess or not, she's a real sweet kid, and she does frequently try to cope to the best of her ability with the shit she's been handed...even if she complains to high hell about it.

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 01/29/2004 10:05 PM EST

The big thing about dvds is how much information they can hold. You can fit 6 or 7 episodes on one dvd as opposed to 4 episodes on one tape. Pluss dvd won't degrade over time like vhs will and has a much higher picture quality than vhs.

Most of the sculpts for the Rock Lords were pretty true to the characters. BUT YOU MUST CHECK OUT MARBLES! Seriously... it's hilarious.

I don't think that I'll try any more flavored Coke products after Vanilla Coke. Bleah!

Chestnuts roasted by KatarHol @ 01/30/2004 04:00 AM EST

starwenn- I'm sure they're not a requirement. Myself, I've only got the now "accepted" male ear piercings (two in the left, one in the right; college swim team thing), and my hair hasn't been any odd shades since Halloween in 3rd grade. So I'm sure it's all good. However, you are dreadfully wrong about DVD's, my friend. You can't get complete seasons of the Simpsons on VHS, and that's really all that ever needs to be said on the subject.

Chestnuts roasted by The Lucky One @ 01/30/2004 09:30 AM EST

at the risk of being even more anal, i'm pretty sure the name of the chimp that fell out of the tree in the last Planet of the Apes movie was named Cornelius. One of the first "knockoffs" from a 60's (70's?) television game show, starring (God bless his soul! "Hi guy!") Chuck McCann (Great theme song. I'd love to get sound bytes of the "Shenanigans" theme song). One of the stops on the Television show was "Pie-In-The-Eye" (Get it? S.B. "Pie in the Sky") with Whipped (or Shaving)-Cream pies thrown by contestants at a continuously opening and closing eyelid (What a mess!). The board-game simulation of same was a "tiddley-winks" (SP?) game with a piece of green felt and multiple colored plastic discs. If memory serves, object of this one square of board game was to get said winks through a cardboard "bulls-eye" opening (Or a bowl; I forget)to score points. Sometimes the green felt pad hindered the tiddelly, some times it helped. There were many different "skill" challenges with the board game as well as the TV show. Actually I remember this game was a lot of fun to play with someone else, or even alone. You kids don't know what you're missing. Memooorrieeeeeeees.....

They made a Rock Lords movie? Ugh! My brother & I still have the Nuggit and Granite figures laying around somewhere. Nuggit's nowhere as gold as he was. Cheapass paint.

And that Diet Coke w/Lime. That shit is HORRIBLE! I thought Diet Coke tasted bad to begin with...then they put that lime in it. I bought a bottle of that stuff one day because I was feeling masochistic. I should have known something when the cashier actually tried to talk me out of buying it. Really, though, that just made me want to try it more.

I've never been one who cared what others thought. If I was, I wouldn't be a 30-year-old man spending money on Transformers and Spider-Man figures while the "dominant media culture" and others who buy into their crap were telling me to spend it on booze and hookers. (Some of us are a little more careful what goes into us. And vice versa.:)

So I have no problem saying that, while the Transformers show was better, I liked--and still do--Challenge of the GoBots. I wish I could see the GoBot/Rock Lord movie, as I have never had the chance. The toys were in my opinion just as good as the Transformers. Bumblebee and Scooter were my favorites for their individual factions. (Scooter had that cool hologram projector.) And I won't change those opinions for anyone, reguardless of how popular they may or may not be.

Chestnuts roasted by ShadowWing The Technorganic GoBot @ 02/01/2004 09:40 PM EST

I can't comment on the lime Coke, because I haven't tried it. However Go-Bots I know, or used to know, a bit about. I was a fan of Transformers, He-Man, and to a lesser extent Go-Bots. (Star Wars always being my first, and lasting love BTW.) I was never as big a fan of Go-Bots but I remember having a few lying around. Cy-Kil was my favorite, never cared for much of the good guys. The good guys didn't seem as cool as the Transformer's Autobots.. The Go-Bot 'heros' seemed to be a bit wussy-fied, even when I was 5 or 6 I had this impression of them. There's a fine line heros have to walk in order not to go over the edge of being a total wuss. Han Solo pre-Greedo shoots first, and pre-carbonite is a good example of a cool hero that had an edge to him.

I remember a helicopter guy, and I do remember Crusher and Turbo but until I read that article I had long since forgotten about em. Transformer's were by far superior, and today we have Transformer Go-Bots... heh, times are a changin.

While your "GoBots" artical was fun, your kinda off on Frank Welker's voice acting resume. While it's true that Welker did the voice of Orbity, that character was introduced in the 1980's episodes of "The Jetsons". Frank Welker's first voice acting job was for the original "Scooby-Doo Where Are You" series as Freddy (Jones).
