You're sad because its snowing and you have to write an article...man, does the baby want a bottle? Waah Waah.
Eh, I found my way out of the Photog Blog and the light hurts my eyes...only 1 comment posted...this blog is too close to the surface for my dilated Bitner pupils. Anyway, I think the only 80's things I wanted to see make a comeback we're GI Joe(though I wouldn't buy them, ironic I know), MOTU, and Garbage Pail Kids, so I'm pretty good on the nostalgia stuff.
Chestnuts roasted by whitemale_98 @ 01/16/2004 12:07 PM EST
I didn't say I was sad. It was just loosely implied.
The new G.I. Joe stuff is actually pretty great -- some of the figure choices are kinda ehhh, but others more than make up for it. Plus, one of the newer 12" figures I've seen was some Joe soldier with masks for Destro, Zartan, and Dr. Mindbender. Doesn't get much cooler than that.
I'd say MOTU is clearly the leader of the revival, though.

Hey Matt,
How does it feel to be a cultural measuring stick?
"What do you mean, Mike?"
Before you did your post about Mighty Beanz, they were languishing on the shelves of our local Toys 'R' Us. The day after the post, they were sold out -and- I've seen them mentioned on about 15 different webpages since then.
You can actually start fads, how neat is that?
Chestnuts roasted by Mike Z @ 01/16/2004 12:21 PM EST
Definitely a coincidence, but I wish I wielded that kind of power. Speaking of the Beanz, they've just come out (or, they're just about to come out) with Ninja Turtles versions. Awesome.

The latest 80's gem to hit stores is Muppet Babies. Last night I was out at at Target with my girlfriend and we saw Miss Piggy and Kermit dolls. Animal, Gonzo, Fozzie, and Rowlf finish out the first set. And as an added bonus, each doll comes with a DVD containing one episode of the original show.

Muppet Babies was an awesome show. My favorite episode has to be the one where they spoofed ghost busters, by going into scooter'ss computer and being the bug busters.

Speaking of Muppet Babies, I met Barbara Billingsley a couple of years ago. One of the nicest persons you could ever meet, Nanny was. I resisted the temptation to do the Jack Nicholson as Eddy Haskell bit, "How the hell you doin' Mrs. Cleaver? Say, Ward dosen't seem to be around today? Too bad....." and so on and so forth. She has relatives around the Lawton area, 70-odd miles south of my environs.

Yay Muppet Babies! I always enjoyed the show, as long as I wasn't forced to listen to the theme song. That thing is so high pitched it makes me ears bleed. i wouldn't normally mind the ear-bleeding so much, but it interferes with my hearing of the show. Oh, and I am going away for the weekend, so try not to get too depressed seeing no posts from me. At least I will have lots to catch up on when I get back ;)

Deep Thought....
How do a pig and a frog get busy? Mammals and Amphibians do not seem to mix well. Also, I have never seen a frog that is as large as a pig. If I did, I would run like hell the other way.

Hey Moose:
There are some pretty big frogs out there, maybe the diameters of dinner plates. Couple that with a small size pig (I'm sure there are small ones) and you've got inter-class love (class being taxonomic ranks). Of course, since amphibians don't have...external parts...the pig might be a little disappointed.
But who are we to judge what loves what? Or they could just get married, and then there would be no question of having sex anyway.

I think it's amusing to watch 80's shows and laugh my ass off when they're using a computer. I saw this episode of Family Ties where Alex was doing something on a "home computer" that was half the size of a bus. Technology, ain't it grand? Another fun thing to do is to watch TV shows or movies where they're playing generic video games and try to identify the music/sounds being played. Usually it is Atari 2600 Pac Man dot eating but lately I have heard some ages old Donkey Kong music too.
I think X-E needs a mailing address. Seriously. I have about 50 thousand video tapes of shitty movies I'd send :)

back into the attic tonight to find my captain power stuff. I had a castle, the good guy ship, and the bad guy ship. I rememebr shooting the TV, and it blowing my mind, that it knew what I was shooting. I had one VCR tape in particular that I remember not being able to shoot everything, so I would get real close to the TV to shoot everything on that one scene.
I gotta see what I have up in the attic, I rememebr selling a few of the things at a yardsale, but I hopefully held on to somepart of it.

At an Native American art gallery. The paintings and sculptures are catalogged, it's the crafts and artifacts we have to count by hand. So many of this or that at so much per item. I really suck at math, so the I am a natural at worrying about getting the totals right.
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 01/16/2004 05:32 PM EST
K-Duck, I read once that the reason they use such old game sounds is that they are identified as game sounds. What with the realistic sound effects these days, games sound like movies now. 2600 Pac-Man: donk donk d-donk, boop!
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 01/16/2004 05:38 PM EST

Actually, I identified it as colorful popcorn as soon as it was mentioned. I wish I hadn't though, remembering things like Pop Qwiz is like getting kicked in the mouth.

I have synesthesia, so I usually peg a color to some of the more "recognizable" names around here. So, Killer Duck, you are a pale yellowish color. Gabby is bright green. Matt is a deep red w/ a little green. (the same color as my husband - uh oh) Kinglash is a dark lavender color. Those are just off the top of my head. I can sometimes even guess who wrote the post by what color it brings up, even before I read the sig at the bottom.
So, none of you have a face, but you're colors are bright.

We didn't really get snow here (and the kids are in school, much to their annoyance), but it has been windy and very cold. My mom says it may snow again, but I'm wary of the local weather people after they claimed we were supposed to get 3-5 inches of snow and we barely got a dusting...
Muppet Babies will always be one of my all-time favorite cartoons. I actually managed to tape an episode when it ran on Nickeolodeon in the late 90s, the one where the babies make their own old-time radio shows and Gonzo does a hilarious parody of "The Shadow." (Incidentally, the black-and-white segments shown when Nanny explains how old-time radio worked to the Babies are from a real radio show from the 30s and 40s, the sitcom prototype "Fibber McGee and Molly"). My favorite "Muppet Babies" ep was probably the first one. I even remember the title: "Gonzo's Video Show," in which Nanny gives Gonzo a video camera and the Babies try to make their own movie. It starts with the Babies doing their own make-believe "Beach Party" and ends with a hilarious parody of "Star Wars" and drive-in theaters.

Star- the episode of Muppet Babies I remember most is one where Nanny's newspaper got ruined somehow so they decide to make her a newspaper. Animal's want ads always cracked me up. Chestnuts roasted by Killer Duck @ 01/17/2004 12:02 AM EST
Killer Duck, I did a google, and while there isn't a DVD yet, there is a lot of speculation, espciacially since they have released a lot of older Muppet shows on DVD. Apparently, in Europe they even have Fraggle Rock on DVD (which is another show that rocked...Pardon the pun! :) )

blah blah blah....huh? oh, ok. Hey, funny thing about the colors (the colors, man, the colors), besides triggering a Freak-Out in TV's Frank, back in high school, I made up some comic book characters for my friends and myself. Kind of a Tron/TransFormers/Monty Python/Doctor Who/Hitchhikers thing going on. My designs were robotic in a B-movie clunky sort of way, which was part of the gag. Anyroad, I came up with a mostly purple shell for my own character. I'm not surprised that synchronicity happens, it's the timing that gets me.

Why in the hell does Paine from Final Fantasy X2 stand facing away from the enemies? Is it to give fanboys a good tit shot? And Rikku's voice makes me want to pull out my ear drums and sell them on eBay. Eh, my roommate's plaing it. I don't do well with RPGs. But I kicked ass on Viewtiful Joe so :p
Chestnuts roasted by Killer Duck @ 01/17/2004 04:55 PM EST
Its what you get for playing Final Fantasy. Play some good RPGs like Fallout 2 or Knights of the Old Republic. And they don't have commercials that make it sound like American Idol done in CGI..
As to Captain Power? Ive got the badguy ship and the thing works perfectly with the 3 cartoon shooting tapes they made. Its kinda dumb, but cool at the same time. I doubt it will be brought back though. Its a Mattel product, and they screwed up Masters of the Universe bigtime.
Glad I am a Transformers fan. Even crap like the Armada cartoon can't hurt us anymore. Ive seen the first 2 episodes of Energon in its Japan version. VERY cool. High quality animation and all the robots are done as cel shaded CGI.

I remember seeing a commercial where it was some sort of Real Ghostbusters promo where Ecto Cooler was giving away a trip to Universal Studios Orlando, for the Ghostbusters 3-D show. That show was spectacular to my 10 year old brain. Anyway, do you know the commercial I'm talking about? I could very well be mixing up two different commercials, as both Beetlejuice commercials and Ghostbusters commercials usually used that "green-glow-around-the-corner" lighting effect instead of investing money into real special effects. Anyway, if you can find it, I'd be eternally grateful.

Hi...what i've been noticing about shows and video games is they get the games and the systems screwed up, like the short lived Gary the rabbit, seth green was acting like he was playing simpsons road rage with a nintendo 64 controller, and that is very common. As a regular video game player i feel that should be illegal to do that
i have an ad in a early 90's short lived magazine simpsons illustrated for pop qwiz, that is mostly why i remember it. it was a 3D edition of the magazine, the 3D glasses said it was for the space mutants movie.
i think that 2 references to the simpsons in my posts will be made by default.

Oh, please do an article on Captain Power. My good friend the Beastman owned the gun and videos when we were, oh, about seven or eight years old? He didn't tell us that he owned it though (probably because this was the same kid who claimed he owned a Turbo Graffix 16, but when we showed up to play it, his parents would make us gather round the TV and watch cheaply produced videos of him singing church hymns with a "gospel clown" instead), so I guess we sort of showed up at his house not knowing what to expect. He just sprung it on us at this yearly birthday bruhah/spend the night. The point is (sorry), I was the last one to show up and didn't know how to play. The gun, shaped like a ship "went off," the Captain Power action figure ppopped up with a violent buzz, and I practically shit myself at the shock of it all. Who's the voyeur now Duck? Ha. Awww King, Halloween is my favorite holiday... so I guess your birthday is too, since as far as I am concerned Halloween isn't over until about noon on the first, or whenver it is I wake up after my evening out ;)

Hey Matt, I love these mario icons and stuff. Ever think of doing a review of some mario stuff? Possibly the show or the movie? I know that'd be something good X-E style.

"Fantasia's" opening piece, "Fugue in D Minor" was loosly based on the idea of synesthesia. I like the case where some guy broke up with a girl because his synesthesia gave him such a terrible taste whenever he heard the girl's name.
