12/13/2003 Entry: "Good news for Crunch fans..."

Whew -- we dodged a bullet there. If you were a little sad hearing about a potentially Christmas Crunchless Christmas, I just got an e-mail from "Kate," a reader -- Christmas Crunch is back! Her words:

"...prior to this announcement, he was also sad that Christmas Crunch seemed to be gone.... and though I myself was never too formally acquainted with the cereal, it was a tradition that he'd looked forward to year after year. I think it's brand stinking new, which might explain why it's not in most areas/stores yet. But out in Oregon, apparently the furthest you need to go to find a new box of the stuff is to the local Safeway. I've seen it with my own eyes! I had my friend take a picture of the box. My best guess is it's just too new to be widespread as of now, but I'm sure if it's out here, it'll be everywhere soon enough."

Big Thanks to Kate for sending in the pic. Strange that they've waited this long to get it on the shelves. I'll be keeping an eye out. The "holiday shapes" kinda make it a slightly different entity than the original version I wrote about, but it's close enough. When/if I find a new box, I'll update the article with s'more pics.

I've never been a huge fan of Christmas Crunch, but it's definitely not a bad cereal.

Good thing the Cap'n has a hold on the specialised custom nitro-burning funny cereal thing, but why is it when somebody comes up with a licensed character cereal, ie, Yu-Gi-Oh, Donkey Kong, and so on, it comes out like the Crunch?? For sheer madness, make marshmallow treats with Cap'n Crunch. Wow!

I am starting to go into withdrawal...need...advent...calendar...or cookies. I guess I'll find some cookies.
Speaking of cookies, earlier my roommate was playing with this Play Doh Do Do Island guy (you put doh in and it oozes out his head- quite amusing) and I wondered if anyone actually maybe tried using real cookie dough in a Play Doh toy. That fun factory would probably make good cookies. Small cookies but good ones. I made the mistake of wondering about it out loud and my roommate gave me a strange look. Some people just don't get it.

The scary looking machine was called the Sog Master or something similar. Back in the mid-late '80s, the good Cap'n picked up some adversaries after a "Where's the Cap'n" contest where you had to guess where he vanished to. It was later revealed on a Saturday morning commercial that he was at the center of the Earth because Sog Master and his Soggies were after the cereal to REMOVE THE CRUNCH! Needless to say, they were foiled again and again in the commercials, and finally did the ol' 'suddenly vanish' trick cereal mascots are prone to do (like the mysterious disappearence of Cookie Cop and Cookie Crook recently).

Guys guys guys!! I just rememberd!! I found a pack of edible markers at my local Wal-Mart!! Sincerely! Red, blue, green, and yellow. And the package states that its perfect for white icing. Only four dollars a pack. Who wants to lick my tattoo?

I found a use for Cap'n Crunch that doesn't do any harm to the roof of the mouth, and is one of the quirkiest flavors you'll ever experience (get ready for this):

Crush it into dust and use it as a crumb coat when making homemade fried chicken nuggets. It takes beautifully to an egg wash because of its texture, and insulates the food against the heat of the oil even better than bread crumbs do. Also adds a distinct sweetness to the mix.
