11/24/2003 Entry: "Updateees."

We're on track to have the next (and final, for a while) Macy's Parade review online by Wednesday night. Jesus Christ, these things take forever to put together. This one in particular was more of a problem on the technical side -- the videos aren't of terrific quality, but the sound sync is way better than you saw in the first review. Initially, I was only going to do '86, but I bit the bullet and mixed highlights in from the '85 parade as well. Was hoping I'd have time to get to the 1989 parade, but you know, shit happens. I don't think these are so unbelievably seasonal that I can't do them in any month but November, so if there's enough interest, maybe I'll keep on going with them for the next few months. Not in December, though -- that's Christmas month, and Christmas month is going to be busy busy busy with the Triple Trouble Advent Calendar, and whatever holiday-themed articles I feel like throwing up.

Also, I received word from my print editor that this week's columns need to be in ASAP, because I neglected to realize that, you know, their office might be closed on Thanksgiving. Doh. So, tonight will be spent tying up those loose ends before locking myself in a cage to write the eight-page parade review. I think I'm going to try to whip up a short article to tide over anyone who visits the site in the interim, so that should be up tonight. It's about peanut butter. Very special peanut butter.

mmmm. peanut butter. speaking of, remember the stuff pre-mixed with jelly? do they still have that? anyone?

Chestnuts roasted by naturekid @ 11/24/2003 06:32 PM EST

They still have that, yes. Actually, there seems to be more than that than regular peanut butter these days.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/24/2003 06:34 PM EST

I'm not so sure about that. I haven't seen any of that around here in a long time.

Chestnuts roasted by Mwargh @ 11/24/2003 07:48 PM EST

Seriously? I see it all the time. Unless we're talking about something different? Peanut butter and jelly, striped and in the same jar?

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/24/2003 07:49 PM EST

Mmm! I want some. Haven't see that in years.

Yes, we also have fresh unicorn meat readily available... Which goes GREAT with the powder made from virgin jellyfish that we tend to import from Japan.

we have reese's in jars?
where??

Chestnuts roasted by candice @ 11/24/2003 11:23 PM EST

I don't like peanut butter - it sticks to the top of my mouth

Chestnuts roasted by garp @ 11/24/2003 11:32 PM EST

We've got the Reese's peanut butter here in MA. You know, there's a site that has all kinds of food you can order (stuff that you can't get in some places or stuff that you thought was gone forever). It's hometownfavorites.com (sorry, I don't know how to make that a link). I am pretty sure they ship outside of the states. I'm not sure if they carry Reese's brand peanut butter. By the way, Matt, it's good to see that you weren't abducted by parade loving aliens or something. I was beginning to get worried there.

Chestnuts roasted by naturekid @ 11/25/2003 12:27 AM EST

I just had me a lil' peanut buddah sandy on a Bambi brand hot dog bun. Damn fine fare if I do say so myself...and I do :)

now you can buy slices of peanut butter too. Individually wrapped in packages of 16 slices. Its in the cheese section. SCARY!

As for the mixed crap I like my peanut butter and jelly separate. Welches grape jelly and skippy creamy peanut butter. OH YEAH!

Its good on bread, crackers, chips, tortillas, old newspapers, greasy car parts, etc...

As much as I love the parade reviews, I think I'd like to see more held off until next Thanksgiving season. It just wouldn't seem right reading about Macy's in January...

Chestnuts roasted by Tony @ 11/25/2003 01:39 AM EST

Please keep doing the Thanksgiving Parades as often as you can Matt, They're great reading, and most of the attractions (Shirt Tales, Care Bears, He-Man etc) have little if anything to do with Thanksgiving anyway. Maybe if you could do one every three weeks? That would be cool.

Hey Killer Duck, thanx for the Hometown Favourites site :D mmm....'80's candy....

Chestnuts roasted by Xen @ 11/25/2003 07:33 AM EST

Add me to the list of people who want to see the parade reviews continue.

I don't recall seeing that for years, Matt. But I do try to avoid the peanut butter isle, seeing as how I'm still suffering from my loss of Superman Peanut Butter.

Chestnuts roasted by Mwargh @ 11/25/2003 07:24 PM EST

the best peanut butter ever is the government issue welfare peanut butter. some strange purity exists there. and it's free!
the nastiest peanut butter on the planet has got to be organic peanut butter. being able to pour it out of the jar, it's so oily, is just naaaaasty.
meep.
