10/31/2003 Entry: "Happy Halloween!"

Happy Halloween! Here's this year's spooky finale: a look at the scariest house in history, with dozens of horror icons immortalized as costumed mannequins, tons of bloody rubber heads, and even a few feet-eating alligators. We're currently fending off scores of trick-or-treaters with Almond Joys and Butterfingers. I'm about to bring the Countdown up to date, so if you're one of the poor souls without much to do tonight, check back later for some last drips of horrifying fun. Have a good one!

You stupid flesh creatures thinkin that other dead flesh creatures are scrary...
I'll tell you what's scary, Megatron with morning wood.
And I'll tell you what's even scarier, when Megatron has morning wood at five in the afternoon!
Kinda gives a new meaning to having an itchy trigger finger.

I don't have much to do... Flipping between Halloween IV and Clue. I am dressed as the naughty school girl, hopeful later as the drunk hopped up on sugar school girl.

The halloween article was great. That house rocks dirty socks. A house here in KC not only has an animated graveyard, but if you turn your radio to a certain station near the house, you can hear a recording describing the various scenes. Have a great halloween you freaks. I'm going to be "Nathan Wind as Cochise."

Yea no one else is going to get it either, but I will be too drunk to care.

i've chosen to be the jolly green giant this year. got the green tights, the green slippers, made a leaf shirt out of cut up garbage bags. think i'm getting an allergic reaction to the body paint though. i look like an absolute idiot, a green idiot with a rash.

Congrats on a job well done with the Countdown, Matt.

Tomorrow morning, grab as much of the half-off candy as you can from your local Wal-Mart. You've earned it.

Lame way to end the countdown ? I don't think so. It's pure magic, sir !

Reading this while simulatiously watching "Army of Darkness" made my Halloween for sure. Well, that and Skeletor standing on top of my screen. He's my buddy.

Happy Halloween Matt! Happy Halloween X-E!

Congratulations on making it just about all the way through the countdown. Right now it's complete till the 28th, but I have faith that the final days will be filled in soon. Great work on it by the way, it's been fantistic!

I'm spending my Halloween with a movie marathon that'll probably keep me up till six in the morning. Alfred Hitchcock and Boris Karloff all the way, man!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

I'm a little sad tonight folks...for one I'm sitting at home because my boy and I had a huge fight today and broke up...and then I went and watched The Great Pumpkin. I went out and got cheesies, chocolate and Welch's grape juice drinkin' boxes for the event...which was a flop. I hadn't seen it for many years, and I suppose I blocked out the whole Snoopy sub-plot. What the hell is with the scene with him and the piano??? There were a few good moments, like 10 dancing hearts suddenly appearing around Sally when she sees lonely Linus in the patch...and watching those few loose cheesies fly into lucy's sack (yes, loose cheesies), but for the most part it was bunk. I'm gunna go get drunk :) That rhymed :)

Chestnuts roasted by Applesauce @ 10/31/2003 07:13 PM EST

Lame ending? *Hell*, no. Lame is Tawianese inflatable three-ghosts-in-a-pumkin statues. Lame is the garbage bag witch crashed into a tree. This? This took EFFORT. I salute you, nameless suburban family!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN KIDDIES!

It's a sad one for me folks...big fight with my boy and now I'm sitting at home on fun night. My ladies are at the Cher concert tonight (where they hope to pick up men...seriously) and I just watched Charlie Brown get a bag full of rocks. My favourite part is when someone chucks a few loose cheesies into Lucy's bag. Yep...just 2 or three. Loose. I was so excited that it was on, but all the stupid snoopy parts are bunk. I'm gunna get drunk. That rhymed :)

Chestnuts roasted by Applesauce @ 10/31/2003 07:19 PM EST

Well, it just keeps getting better. I didn't think my first post worked, so I re-wrote the fucking thing and then there it is :(

Chestnuts roasted by Applesauce @ 10/31/2003 07:21 PM EST

great post but I think the scariest house of all time is the one Webster lived in after he burned down his apartment making crystal meth, remember that episode when they moved in and it was haunted by that creepy doll and they found out a clown lived in the basement, I still have nightmares about that episode

Chestnuts roasted by man at arms rules @ 10/31/2003 07:36 PM EST

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Now that I have that out of the way, I must say it's nice to see someone still has the halloween spirit out there. I sure as heck don't, heh. We probably won't even get any trick or treaters tonight. But, hey, more candy for me!

Those guys in the article remind me of an old couple living around here. They always decorate their lawn more elaborately then anyone else, partly because they are old and retired, and partly because their lawn is almost as big as Texas. It's not just halloween, either. They go all out for EVERY holiday. I mean, Easter, Thanksgiving, July 4th, you name it, they deck it out. It's just wonderful. I'll be sad when they get too old to do it anymore.

Hey Matt, this is just a friendly suggestion, but have you ever thought about a digital camera? I mean, I know you take a lot of pictures for this site, and with one you wouldn't have to worry about some of them turning out crappily. You're making the big bucks from X-E, right?

Chestnuts roasted by evan @ 10/31/2003 08:30 PM EST

Most pics on this site are from a digital camera. I do need a new one though, as for high quality images, I'm only alloted like 16 or so. For things like the Halloween House, where I need 100 pics, I have to set it to low, and the end result is...well, crappy pics.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 10/31/2003 08:50 PM EST

Happy Halloween! I'm wearing a lame bunny costume. Nobody is comming to my house and it is really lame. These kids now a days.

They need badges for people willing to put this much effort into Halloween. I hope everyone scored well! I scored...nuttin'. My parents bought me TWO 112-piece bags. I'm getting fatter, and scarier. It's Halloween.
Way to make October the scariest month of the year, Matt. I humble at thee. Boo! Fare thee well.

Ok, my turn - Happy Halloween to Matt, X-Entertainment, and all Bloggers!

Matt, that house is amazing. I agree - far from being a disapointment, it was the perfect way to end X-E's Halloween season. How can you beat a lawn covered with manniquins of every horror icon from Pinhead to an alien escapee from the National Enquirer? Even the ones that weren't done quite so well (Leatherface) had a certain strange...um, charm. Nothing in Wildwood comes close.

Would that my Halloween was as plesant. I found out from the cashiers on the morning shift when I went to collect my paycheck that the manager of the grocery store where I work had suddenly and inexplicably decided that we weren't allowed to wear costumes to work or give out candy. Not surprisingly, no one was thrilled. Some people had to take off their costumes after showing up in them. We did give out candy, though. Three employees sprung for a big bag of Reeces Cups to give trick-or-treaters. To hell with the stupid manager. On this holiday, the kids are more important.

I did get to dress up this Halloween, if not today. I went to a friend's Halloween party as a flapper, a fashionable young woman of the 1920s. My senior prom gown passed for the beaded, low-waisted gowns popular then, and I wore a beaded headband, feather boa, and tons of junk jewelry.

i wish we had halloween here in australia. the most "haloween-ey" we get are halloween themed jelly pops in the middle isle at k-mart. oh and a few spooky movies on cable.

since everyone was saying what their costume is/was, *if* i ever went trick-or-treating i would dress up as an angel. yeah.
rock on, matt. and im looking forward to a christmas countdown, too. ;-)

Happy Halloween all, and to all a good night. Can you believe I went trick or treating with a church group? What a world, I tell ya. I was a thief of a medieval sort with a harlequin mask. The house, Matt, I'm sure was glorious. It's the spirit of intention and not big bucks that has made the world as splendid as it is. And horror has always been better with a small wallet. There's always something much scarier about grime then gloss. And I'm spent. Adieu.

I just read your Ugo top ten, Matt, but I need convincing on the subject of Fright Night. I've heard of the film but know only that it has Roddy McfreakinDowell. So all who've seen it--tell me why I should watch for it. The rest of the list is pretty damn solid. Kudos must go to the re-viewing of Night of the Living Dead. In my opinion, the masterpiece of the genre. When the little girl comes back from the grave and kills her mother with a trowel--I don't think I'll ever see a death scene that disturbing.

Chestnuts roasted by inkmage @ 11/01/2003 07:41 AM EST

You know what was the highlight of my night last night? I was at a party, standing around, talking, and happened to bring up X-E to make a point about...well, something or other. To my surprise and glee, the person to whom I was speaking not only knew what I was talking about, but was also an avid reader! We spent the next hour or so playing the "do you remember the article on...?" game. At first, I thought, "ok, how sad are we that we're talking about a website at a party?" Then I thought "who the hell cares? what the hell else are we going to talk about, the status of the economy?!" So, Matt, just know that people were thinking about you last around 10 or so in Orlando! You're so universally loved...well, nationally at the very least.

Chestnuts roasted by purplegirl247 @ 11/01/2003 08:34 AM EST

Awesome finish, Matt! And I think the timing of it worked out great-at least it did for me. The day after Halloween is always a slightly weird day in its own way. This morning I got up, stumbled past the how-in-the-world-could-they-already-be-rotting pumpkins, plopped down at the computer and voila! A perfect way to wrap up my month!

Hey, there's a bowl of candy sitting by the door...

I thought it was a good finale to the Halloween countdown :) We have a house like that at home at Christmas. Only, um, y'know, Christmas decorations, not the Cryptkeeper and Freddy.

Anyhow, I know that's what my mum would like to do to the house to decorate for Halloween, if it were up to her.

We only had like 7 groups of Tricks or Treatsers all night. My mother suggested we give them tons of candy. She gave them each like 3 or 4 pieces. That pissed me off. The leftovers were gonna be MINE, damn it. All the chocolate is gone. Runts and nerds are all that's left. My jaw hurts. I probably ate too much candy.

Chestnuts roasted by TOP1214 @ 11/02/2003 01:28 AM EST

Yeah, the Madd mood strikes very sporadically. For what it's worth, he appeared in August, and Halloween was already on my brain then.

For those who missed it, the Countdown has been COMPLETED, woo hoo. Working on a movie review now, couldn't resist. Loads of fun stuff coming up next week.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/02/2003 01:30 AM EST

haha I found it funny. These people in my neighborhood, you never see them outside or anything but when Halloween rolls around, they go all out and set their yard up. They create scenes. Last time I went they did executions in their electric chair, and they did "surgeries" in their front lawn. This year, they had more executions, a guy with a chainsaw, a cannibalistic diner...it was some pretty rad shit. People from all over town come to their house just to see their Halloween decorations. They do some nice Christmas lights too...but again, you never see them outside.

Matt, x-e's halloween articles always enrich my spooky birthday season.

The other day, 50% off in an after halloween sale, I found something utterly mindblowing (for me) - a laughing, lightup plastic skull with the arms of a BOGLIN. Seriously. Some company ripped off the same mold and same materials to one of the larger mattel boglin's arms, right down to that warty, hard plastic disc holding it in place. I'm making a halloween section of my geoshitties site for it and all my other weird crap from this season...

So, someone tricked you into going to Salem Ma. Tourist trap from hell. That should have been your Halloween article, how they can turn a decent New England town into the neo pagan lesbian warehouse of lavender extract.

I think the only highlights I had there (I live an hour or so away, but I don't go often) Was rumaging through the comic book store that carried a decent selection of used toys and retro t's. Also, something you might have missed, though it's a shame if you did. For some reason, the army/navy store on Main St. (next to the witch tour building) has the worlds largest collection of American Made Chucks (Converse all stars for you kids). Seeing they're the only shoes I ever wear, I was able to get kinds there that I haven't seen in the stores since the late 80's. Black on Black, neon pink, green and orange, flames, checkers, red, hell even the old ultra high top models. Needless to say, I stocked up on the last American made chucks for years to come. If anyone goes to Salem, it's one of the few cooler things there ^ ^
