Being the poor family that we were on the rare occasions that we went out, we had two choices- Wendy's or White Castle. My vote was always for Wendy's. Frosties were like sweet chocolate semi liquid crack for me, except that i wasnt allowed to get both a drink and a frosty. :(

Should I be excited about having 3rd comment on the ol' blog. Beats me.
What also beats me is why does Wendy's Mushroom cheddar burger suck. Mushrooms=good. Cheddar=good. Burger=good.
Where did they go wrong. It was terrible.
I blame the lack of kethup. Sweat, sweat kethcup. Or catsup if your one of those.

I have a feeling that ice cream thingy would have fared better in the 'staying more like ice cream' arena had it not been shoved in a bag with hot greasy stinky food for a whole car ride home. Then again, judging by the quality of the other food they have for sale, I doubt it.
Still, I'd like to see someone 'double the beef' on a triple cheeseburger. Nothing like fucking with fast food places and their silly extra thingies. Like when I went to McDonalds, got an ice cream cone, and told them to 'make it bacon.' There was a lot of commotion in the kitchen about THAT one. Jeez. I just wanted bacon ice cream! Is that so hard to understand?

Batman: Dead End is well-made, but pretty silly. Wank material for fanboys. There's my review.
Just curious Matt, what foods do you like? Your reviews seem to make it clear that you're not into fast food, and often seem to come across as very health conscious. On the other hand you've admitted to being a fan of various candies and sugary drinks, so I'm left with conflicting signals here.

Remember Burger King's "We Changed Our Fries And Now Let's Give Them Away Free For a Day" promotion? Yeah, that ruled. I was in High School at the time and my friends and I would always hit the fast food chains after school (and many times before). That day the three Burger Kings in our area must have lost $16000 in sales just from my little group.
Too bad Burger Kings fries still suck ass.

Wasn't it Wendy's where a mouse head was found in the chili? I would have loved to have seen that woman (I believe it was a woman) scoop that head from the yellow bowl, considering to herself "Is this just a nice big chunk of beef; I wonder how spicy it is." Then bam! its eyes glow read and it bites her nose!
And Matt, that tube of hot sauce is Wendy's own chili sauce; if you can find me chili sauce any better I'll give you my . . . I'll give you my thumbnail (only not the whole thing).

I go to Wendy's a lot of the time when I'm in downtown Montreal because I'm frequently in the mood for a spicy chicken burger, and the only KFC (called PFK here, for "Poulet Frit Kentucky") in downtown Montreal is in the stupid Place Ville Marie food court, which closes at the same time as the rest of the shopping centre (Mon-Wed 6 p.m., Thu-Fri 9 p.m., Sat-Sun 5 p.m.), 5 days of the week well before I'm ready for dinner. I like the Wendy's Spicy Chicken because it's marinated in hot sauce; the Spicy Big Crunch at KFC just adds a hot topping, though the chicken itself is much better (we used to have the KFC Zinger up here, which is, by far, the best Spicy Chicken sandwich I've ever tasted, but they stopped selling it about 2 years back in favour of the Spicy Big Crunch)... well, sometimes I go to the closest freestanding KFC/PFK location, way up on Park, but usually I settle for the Wendy's Spicy Chicken, which is pretty good, though sometimes it seems just a tad stale.
Personally, I still like McDonald's fries best, of the major chains, at least, but Wendy's fries are a close second, and you get plenty with your meal even if you don't "Super Size"...

Out here in the Midwest have another treat on the $.99 menu: The 1/4 lb. Double Stack. It has 2 slices of beef, cheese, ketchup, pickles, onions and of course buns. However, when I went to Ohio and ate at the first Wendys ever, their 1/4 lb. double stack was different. I wrote an article about it for my site, here's the link:

wendys chili is outsatanding. i saw that matt got the "chili seasoning". here we have to ask for it special, but its well worth the effort. put the 2 magic packets in, let it simmer for a few seconds, and the chili is unbeatable. just dont agree to the "cheese and onions" they try to push on you. the extra 50 cents is too great a cost to pay for almost no cheese, and far too many onions.

Geek is right about the chili...i used to work @ wendy's too. When a burger has sat on the grill too long, and gets burnt and dry, it gets put in a heated storage bin of sorts. At the end of the day (now, mind, these things have been sitting since 11:00 AM) theyre put in the freezer, taken out the next day and boiled in scummy water, chopped, boiled again in the chili, and put out somewhere to sit again till you order it. Once, someone forgot to empty the bins, and the meat turned a sickning green color, but that aparently didnt stop the manager from requesting that it be put in the freezer with all the rest. I have never eaten wendy's chili and expecially now that ive seen it prepared, i never will, and furthermore, advise that no one else eats it either.

Here's a little hint for all the stoners out there. If you live in a state with 6% sales tax, 4 items on the 99c menu come out to be exactly, $4.20. Not only is it a sweet price to pay, it's also a lot of food, great for late night munchies. As a side note, you can also get 6 plain glazed donuts at Krispy Kreme for the same price. A fitting dessert for such an amazing meal.

Wendy's fries are great, but only when they're fresh AND cooked properly - which is not very often.
When Wendy's fries are slightly cripsy on the outside and steaming hot, they are really good. Two minutes later, they're cold and nasty. There is no transition period, they're great or nasty.
McDonald's fries are decent even when sitting under a hear lamp for a 1/2 hour.

I was *far* too frequent a customer at the local Wendy's last summer, due to it's proximity to the highway entrance on my way to work. It was that or eat at the expensive highway McD's, really, since I worked at the damn 'gift shop' attached to it. (The Mohegan references kill me - I worked on I-95 between 61 and 62 and somehow people missed the GIANT SIGNS for the Casinos...)
Big fan of the Mandarin Chicken, must say, but last summer it was Jr Cheeseburger Deluxe (for the veggies on it, I pretended it was healthier), fries, coke. 2.98+tx. Seeing as that was only about...1/2 hrs work, or so, that was the best I could do.
Totally could have used this last summer, is what I'm saying. So tempted to go get dinner early...

That's not true, Once it starts to burn, it gets pulled and placed in a heat drawer, where it's kept between 140 and 160 degrees for up to 4 hours (the same heat drawer that mcdonalds and burger king store their meat in ALL DAY)
Then, it's rinsed off in the sink, bagged up and frozen. The next day, it's boiled, drained of water and grease, chopped up, placed in the chili and cooked at 160 degrees for 4 hours.
You won't find healthier meat anywhere.

In Texas most Wendy's have a 99-cent burger called the 1/4 lb. Texas Double Cheeseburger
It's 2 deliciously greasy patties of beef(?), plus cheese, slice of giant tomato, hunk o' lettuce, onion + condiments.
It's truly worth 99 cents!
Also - if you ever go to Wendy's and want to truly test your ability to ingest grease - try eating a TRIPLE WITH CHEESE. (thats 3/4 lb of meat + cheese + enough grease to make them wrap it three times in aluminum/paper and still be greasy.) You can practically see through the wrapper it's so greasy.

First off, Matt, the best slang term I have found for a ten-dollar bill is "ten-spot".
Now on to TEH WENDY'S GOODNESS!
I looove the Jr Bacon. I always get two of them. They're yummy. The chili is also excellent. In spite of the people whining about it being leftover hamburgers, blah blah, since they didn't take the trouble to read that fifty other people had already posted the same thing, it still TASTES good. I usually hate chili. But I like Wendy's chili.
And the frosties. Oooohhhh, the FROSTIES. They must have done something terrible to yours, because mine are always so thick I can't drink 'em with a straw. I actually had a straw not just collapse, but actually *start to turn inside out* once because I was trying so hard to drink it instead of spoon it.
I love my local Wendy's. The service rocks, they've NEVER messed up my order, they're exceedingly friendly, clean and well-organized, the food tastes great ALWAYS... I don't know what the rest of you fuckers are talking about. :P
Although McDonalds, yes, has the best fries.

Also, I like Wendy's, but I have an issue with their doubles. And I'm assuming their triples too, but I never tried one so I don't know. Why is it a classic double with cheese only has one slice of cheese on it? Am I the only person who thinks a double cheeseburger should have double the cheese?
Yes, it's true, I have no respect for my circulatory system. In fact, I think my blood has been replaced by gravy. Maybe cheese sauce.

Well, now I feel bad for saying that a couple of the Wendy's Spicy Chicken burgers I've had recently tasted a little stale, because, apparently, most people here have much crappier Wendy's experiences. All I can say is that the Wendy's location on Peel in downtown Montreal is cleaner than most of the downtown Harvey's locations, and at least one of the Burger Kings, though the McDonald's restaurants are the absolute cleanest ones downtown of the major burger chains. At least the stuff I order from Wendy's is satisfactory to above average (by burger place standards) 95% of the time... maybe they just got a bad batch of spicy chicken patties. For burgers, Wendy's is about tied with McDonald's as the best burger place for my tastes. (Do I have crappy tastes, or what? Well, I just happen to like fried patties more than flame broiled... what can I say? Also, we don't have some of the smaller, supposedly better, chains like Sonic in Montreal...)

Thank you, that article made me seriously consider a lifestyle change from an uptight, Republican carnivore to a tree-hugging, Nader-loving vegetarian. At least my shit will come out smelling more like compost instead of greasy animal carcass.

Darn, I wanted to be 76th post. Oh well, anywho Wendy's is the shiz-nit.
You get real sized onions and when you ask for x-tra ketchup you get it. I will argue w/ the statement that Wendy's has the best fries. If you're ever on the thruway (like cobaltnine) check out Roy Rogers fries, they're thet thickest cut I've ever seen. Oh yeah, and Matt, we want the striaght poop (pun intended) on what happened to all that 99 cent goodness.
P.S I will still eat the chili. The value is too good to pass up, even at the expense of my life or colon, which ever should expire in a fiery death first.
Chestnuts roasted by Lumberjack Matt @ 09/06/2003 05:30 AM EST
OK, couple of things:
The 1/4 pound double stack with cheese isn't exclusive to the Midwest; they're available in South as well, or at least they have them in Arkansas. When me and my friends were piss poor, our sustenance would be a cup of chili + as many doublestacks as we could afford, AKA the loser's lunch or ghetto gourmet.
Second, I haven't had many bad experiences with ordering from Wendy's. McDonald's or KFC are more likely to screw up my orders than Wendy's.
Third, if you think what goes on in Wendy's is bad, then you'd better not take a look at what goes on in other fast food chains. Almost all of them have tons of gross stuff going down in them. And you better not think of what goes on in the factories that make the TV dinners/canned or processed foods and snacks you buy at the grocery store. You're better off planting your own crops and cooking everything yourself. At least then you know who's ruining your dinner.
Finally, I've heard stories that say the people who work in the bottling facilities in my area like to climb on top of the big flats of soda cans and piss all over them. You might want to wash your cans before you drink out of them.

Wow,the wendys in you country look like they really suck, in Toronto the wendys kick ass, its like the most gourmet food i can get for five bucks. Maybe in the U.S. all the wendys are under an evil curse ever since a voodoo witch docter chocked on a chicken nugget, so now when ever the staff make the food it will garaunteely suck hard.

Even before I went veg, Subway was one of my favourites. Now I like hot foods, so I could probably deal with Taco Bell if they had any veg stuff. On the other hand, what the hell do I know? I like to fit into a bikini without having to worry about how I look, so I don't put this shit into my body anyway. Matt, I assume, doesn't have the same worries. :D
Otherwise, I say we go back in time, assassinate Charles Kuralt and make Matt the Charles Kuralt of their generation too! Muwah hah hah hah!

1/4 lb double stack is awesome. Like most places some menu items differ regionally. When I was 16 I ventured out of Minnesota and east for the first time. We stopped at a Wendy's in Indiana and to my suprise they had...Breakfast?!?! I was totally shocked, it was like I "slid" into an alternate dimension. I had recently worked at a Wendy's franchise(my first real job)and heard nothing about them having breakfast. I felt like I was in the middle of a twilight zone episode. Another time around the age of 19 my gf and I visited a Wendy's in Duluth on Lake Superior and saw yet another Wendy's oddity...a lunch time Taco Bar?? Go figure weird shit sometimes, road trips bring , they do , they do.

Of all the various fast food burger joints I like Wendy's the best by far. I've never gotten violently ill eating anything from a Wendy's which is more than I can say about McD's or BK.
HOWEVER...I am thankful that they ditched the Wendy's SuperBar, which was like the worst all you can eat buffet in the entire universe.
Molten, Taco Bell DOES have at least one vegetarian item, the bean burrito. However since I've never eaten at Taco Bell and not been hideously ill the next day, I wouldn't recommend it.

I have two Wendy's to choose from. Both are about three minutes from my home. I'm glad I have two, that way I'll say, "I don't go that one, I go to the good one."
As bad for you as some of the things on the $.99 menu are, when it's 2 a.m. and you're so hungry, you start gnawing at your own hand, Wendy's all of a sudden becomes Gourmet!

Ahh, good old Wendy's. So lethal, yet so convienent. Next time you go, ask for a junior cheeseburger. 50% of the time, they'll think you said junior BACON cheeseburger. It's a simple enough order, you'd think that most of the time they could get it right. But they don't. Oh, and did you go to Wendy's this summer when they were giving Pokémon toys with the kids' meals? I asked for a Charizard, and they said "We don't have that, we have Pokémon toys."

Maybe that's just Ct though. Yeah, I have a stockpile of Wendys bbq sauce (one of my favs. they should bottle it) 'cause they never give you enough.

Actually, I was living in Ohio when the kid died from Botcholism (sp) from Jack in the Box. It was an issue with employees not washing thier hands when they used the toilet and whatnot. I recently had a Jumbo Jack when I was in Texas, I forgot how ungodly greasy those things were.
Chestnuts roasted by Toxikfoxx @ 09/09/2003 09:29 PM EST
It was E coli, not botulism. And I'm pretty sure the kid died in California. I live in the east, and have never seen a Jack in teh Box, except for in the movies. And on the news about 12 years ago or so when that kid died.
These things happen when you're feeding a toddler crap for dinner.

RE: Sperm deposits in fast food.
I fail to see how this could happen if your order inside. In our region, the entire kitchen is clearly visible from the cash register. However, it did happen in my city at Olive Garden. Fettucine alfredo, anyone? The poor girl contracted herpes, and testing showed infected semen in the leftovers in her fridge was the cause. Two employees were arrested and sent to jail. The chain is also being sued for a substantial sum of money.
RE: Wendy's food
The 1/4 pounder double stack is the best. Also, Wendy's quality varies dramatically even within cities, so you have to search for the best one.
RE: U.S. money
I'll grant fiver and ten-spot, but fin, sawbuck, and double sawbuck? What region is that? Minnesota? Oh, who else is filled with foreboding and dread by the new technicolor $20 bills?

Wendy's is some good shiznat for cheap prices. Gotta eat dem fries fast though. Last couple of times I went there, the fries got a bit soggy if I didn't eat 'em fast enough.
The best place for cheap tasty morsels that will move your bowels faster than ever before is Krystal. They got 'em all over the southeast. They're small burgers for about 50 cents each. Plus, they got chili cheese fries, wings, etc. It's like giving your stomach a frickin' lube job. Yet, I go there all the time.

Those of you saying that Taco Bell has vegetarian items....LIES.
They put lard in the beans. That's why they taste like shit. The Del Taco beans are vegetarian and delicious though, but I think they only have Del Taco in the Southwest.
And those of you not in California are missing out on In N Out and Fatburger, truly the greatest fast food on the planet.

I don’t remember Wendy’s getting my order wrong, but then I almost never eat at Wendy’s, because it’s way the hell on the other side of the city from me. If someone offered me a ride there, then sure, I’d try the 99-cent menu.
I don’t see what’s so unreasonable about wanting my order to be right. And I’m always polite when I take a wrong order back.
Pretty much every restaurant I’ve ever eaten at, I’ve known somebody who’s worked there who says they’ll never eat there knowing as they do first-hand what goes on behind the scenes, so if I let that stop me, I’d starve to death.

Funny you should mention the inclusion of 'carageenan' in the frosty's ingredients, Matt, since carageenan is actually (WARNING TO ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY LIKES WENDY'S FROSTIES: READ NO FURTHER IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE LIKING THEM) a form of oceanic sea-weed slime. It's also found in chocolate milk & is what gives it a thicker, gooier texture than your plain, average moo-juice. Considering your fascination with all things sea-going, I thought you might like to know that. To everyone else who probably just got done spitting their formerly favorite beverages all over their monitors, somebody had to break it to ya, and my only regret is that I couldn't see your reactions.

Right after reading this review I went out and got a few things off the Wendy's menu. Not the Value menu, but it's basically the same food. Grabbed a double hamburger, a soda, large fries and a spicy chicken sandwich and I have to say that Wendy's gets a bad rap. Sure, the food might not have the same unique flavor you get from places like McDonald's or BK, but it's not bad food to be honest. Believe me, I've tasted worse...
...like Jack in the Box tacos...WTF?! You have to eat those RIGHT AWAY or the shells get this half-soggy half-crusty texture...not to mention that the stuff inside the tacos is nasty. Stick to burgers, Jack!
