08/05/2003 Entry: "New Article: The WWF Superstars Molding Kit!"

New Article: Ever had this irresistible urge to make Hulk Hogan out of Play-Doh? In 1992, kids could do just that with Craft House's WWF Superstars Maker -- a kit that turned lumps of kneaded dough into Macho Man and the Ultimate Warrior. The playset is only interesting on a sadist level, and certainly didn't bring a smile to faces of whatever poor kids it was thrust upon. On the upside, it's the only place you'll ever find a plastic "Ted DiBiase" clay mold. Oooooh yeah.

By the way -- apparently, it's been revealed "for sure" that Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen is in fact the true reborn Ecto Cooler. Someone posted in the comments section that they called Minute Maid/Hi-C and got the word straight from the juicy horse's juicy mouth. Kind of an anticlimactic ending to our journey, but don't worry -- I don't think we've heard the last from Slimer and his green thirst quencher.

This kind of reminds me of this T2 Skin Molder thing I had: you pump this gel type substance to a T-1000 exoskeleton and it looks like it had skin.... I also had this T2 care with a giant rocket that went about 4 inches....

I'll be darned if I could figure out what he was rambling about, but you know it's gonna be entertaining any time a guy with the legal name 'Warrior' is involved. Good piece I esp. liked the crystaline doughy substance (I believe they only gave you red & yellow to make Hogan, jeez that guy even had an ego with toys) it was very pretty. All the wrestling toys from back then were crappy with the exception of those big rubbery ones the wwf put out, those may be the best wrestling toys of all time. They had a pretty good likeness, were extremely durable and pliable enough so that if you chunked it at somebody it would hurt but not to the level that warrants crying or fights.
Every one always makes fun of early 90's wrestling but that was when I became a fan so it couldn't be all that bad, like the kranick above stated there was the Rock in Roll wrestling show, (though technically it's probably an eighties thing, like Cyndi Lauper) plus a real good arcade game, and a comic book (there was a preview in the pages of WWF magazine and the only thing I vaguely remember is the Natural Disasters lifting a car and Mr.Perfect calling the Texas Tornado a name, hitting him and running away). It wasn't the best of times but sure wasn't the worst (Katie Vick,David Arquette winning WCW championship).
As for Jim Hellwig (Ultimate Warrior) he must be one of the biggest in jokes in all of wrestling history, the guy is such a sanctimonious asshole. I'm one for political involvement but since when has being buried up to your neck and face to face with a rubber snake earned you the title of "political expert". It was funny though, I guess I can put up with him as long as he amuses me so. People who want more funny wrestling stuff should check out wrestlecrap.com and scoopthis.com (scoopthis doesn't post any new stuff but the site is big enough that you can check it out for days and good enough so that you enjoy it).

the teddy long guy is so funny. and the worst thing is that the guy doing it can never go : "ooh its mee im the funny one" cos he cant.

spakin of playdoh, i remember i wanted to make extra modulok pieces.

my plan as a kid was to make molds by pressing the bits into playdoh, and leaving them to go hard, the once it was hard, putting soft doh in the now hard molds, and viola, instant (okay 2 weeks) modulok spares.

trouble is the doh kind of lost its shape in the going hard process, so i decided to try again, making sure the molds didnt get mishaped this time but 1st i'd need to soften up the doh.

i1/4 filled an ice cream tub with water and put the hard doh in.

after a few weeks or so i realised id forgotten about the tub in my wardbrobe. i went in, and retreived the tub, hoping my playdoh would have absorbed the water and be good as new.

strangely the lid seemed stuck on very firmly...what was going on?

after lots of tugging i got one corner up, just a bit, and smelt the most horrible stench i had ever experienced EVER. (and considering my job that's saying something.)

determined to discover the source of this smells i gave it all of my strength and yanked the lid as hard as i could.

with a rasping noise and a splat the lid came off, and i hit by what appeared to be a combination of green slime and white candy floss.

the playdoh had gnemouldy in th tub and the huge growth of mould had grown into the the gap between the tub and the lid, sticking ithard, thats why it was so hard to opn and caused me to have to rip it so hard.

not wanting to get in troublefor being such a ool wit my playoh i put my mould and slime coveredt shirt nd the wet (but still fairly hard) play doh, and the tub in the bin. but it took a very long bath to get the stench off me.

imagine if matt had tried similar with the playdoh in the wwf set.

i woul d hav made a great series of photos.

I remember pulling the cap off of some kind of ancient Play-Doh and it being covered in a green and blue spiky mold. I'm still in therapy. Okay, maybe not. But goddamn! That's disturbing when you're a little girl.

Anyway, you've gotta love the Play-Doh stuff of today. I have to imagine that the "Fun to play with, but not to eat!" is more than a little disingenuous on Hasbro's part. They know that some kid's going to be passing this through his digestive system in less than 24 hours after opening it.

The George Foreman Play-Doh Grill I know they have to turn a buck, but when you're schilling McD's to kids, do you think these kids are worried about their cholesterol levels?

Right. So now that the sarcasm is out of the way, I want to tell you all a terribly off-topic story:

About eight years ago, my half brother, who was five at the time, was an OBSESSIVE Hulk fan. Well, my step grandma (my brother's real grandma) worked in the check-cashing store in the Mall Of America-- right next door to where the Hulk was JUST OPENING his (short-lived) new restaurant!!

So of course, it was easy-peasy for Grandma to get my brother there for the grand opening. And we have LIVE VIDEO (which I think was also actually played on TV) of my little brother up on Hulk's shoulder, in front of hundreds of screaming, crying fans. It was an awesome moment.

A couple months ago, I saw my brother for the first time in five years-- and he STILL HAS HIS HULK POSTER UP ON THE WALL. Apparently he is convinced that Hulk was never a bad guy, and that wrestling IS real-- Hulk was just FORCED to pretend to be mean.

The kid's fucking thirteen. Is this taking it too far...?
