Farewell, old friend. I wish Nukie could've stayed up there forever, but then people would either assume that I stopped updated or was now using all my time to review Nukie over and over again. It wouldn't have worked. Oh, for the readers out there in Delaware, the column I'm doing for the News Journal is being run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The first article ran last Saturday, delighting five people and swarming their office with calls from people angry that they're doing featurettes on Suckerman.

Nukie's snot-covered face the best image ever? Christ, Matt. I can understand the humor value, but that image scared the crap out of me when I first saw it. You would've scared off a lot of potential viewers with it, y'know.

i much prefer snoopy to nukie..as a side note, they make a spongebobsquarepants version of the snowcone maker now. It makes a damn good jack daniels slushy

Triple Mr had a similar reaction to mine when I read this article, only I did my gleeful shouting a safe distance from my caps lock key.
Yeah, the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine sat in my house since I was knee-high to a cricket (granted, a very large cricket). Only problem I had with it was that I was a very impatient child, so could never make one of the snowcones without getting frustrated and grabbing a candy bar instead. It probably didn't help that my folks hated the thing, and hid it on the top shelf of one of our cabinets where they wouldn't have to make the requisite 25-50 rotations just for me to gobble down ice.
I actually think I still have the machine somewhere, sans the nifty red shovel. I think gnomes made off with that. Yeah, gnomes...

This is something I picked up a year ago off Yesterdayland.com. I can't believe they re-released this classic.
Maybe satas can post the recipe for the Jack Daniels slushie.

just chill the Jack or southern comfort or (insert drink of choice here) you cant really freeze them, so we make ice cubes out of vanilla coke, then grind them down instead of ice cubes, then add the chilled jack in the included squeezy bottle. Its a fun toy to experiment with, you could probly make most mixed drinks into slushies.

I also had the Snoopy Sno-Cone Maker...but was I the only kid who ate the shaved ice unflavored? Of course, I've always obsessively chewed regular icecubes (oral fixation much?). It's so much easier on the teeth if they're pre-masticated by a talking dog first.

I swear I had the sno cone machine but it was kool aid themed instead of snoopy. pretty sure it waas the same thing because i had the shovel and i rmeber the house shape. too bad my cousin broke it.
Chestnuts roasted by mattevil @ 05/14/2003 04:17 PM EST
I have a sno-cone machine, but it's not themed. It's just a sno-cone machine, blue on top, that can make GIANTIC bowls fulla snowy goodness.

Ahh, the snoopy sno cone maker. I made more money of this toy than any other. I would set up shop at our annual neighborhood rummage sale and churn out sno-cones at .25 cents a cup. I usually would make enough to buy a new g.i. joe or he-man figure and I'm sure people just felt pity for me and bought one to satisfy there own guilty mind, kinda like when you toss that guy on the corner strummin a guitar a buck.

My sister had that Snoopy Sno-Cone Maker, but I think we sold it a yard sale a few years ago, damnit! I mean, c'mon, I could be enjoying yummy Sno-Cones thanks to our friendly neighborhood dog who thinks he is an Ace Fighter Pilot right now!
Ah, well, Ill just walk down to the corner store and get a damn Slush Puppy instead. Its the next best thing, I mean, its still made from a Dog, and its still Slush, so, no harm done. I suppose.

Yeah, baby! I had one too. As I recall it took a bit of elbow grease to turn the crank and actually get the ice into fluffy form but then I had the little girly arms requisite to qualify for the "lighter touch" mentioned in the article. Hey, I was asthmatic too.
But I go to the gym now, so; churn, baby, churn!
I didn't even realize that the Snoopy piece of the machine was a syrup dispenser. Why didn't my parents ever tell me that I could spill blood-red flavouring out of Snoopy's head onto a pile of ground ice? Phh. Probably didn't want to raise a serial killer.
Chestnuts roasted by Molten @ 05/14/2003 06:12 PM EST
I have a really old Sno-Cone machine. It looks pretty much the same except the pictures of Charlie Brown and Lucy are different. I remember that I thought Snoopy's ribbed hat looked weird, but he looked even stranger without it. I also remember it took the strength of ten men to hold the top on and churn the ice.
By the way, I recently visited a local "mom and pop" video store to see what they had. I was very disappointed. Sure, there was lots of junk, but the oldest stuff they had was some Star Wars Episode I merchandise, and everyone has that.

Fuck, snoopy isn't the Red Baron. Snoopy fights the Red Baron.
Snoopy is wearing a Devo hat!!! Remember Devo??!!! DEVO! DEVO!

I had a generic version of this; house shape and everything. I didn't use it much; I probably couldn't crush the ice very well.

Does eating a Red Baron Single Serve pizza count as thwarting the Red Baron? Or does it only count as eating the Red Baron's pizza?

It's well known that you've collected many odd things over the years, Matt, but a KRULL BOARDGAME? What haunt of Satan did you patronize for that one? It boggles my mind; I mean, of all things to base a board game on - Krull! A movie where peanut butter and jelly heals smoldering laser wounds, alien foot soldiers have bloody squids for brains and marriage involves the bride setting her hand on fire! At least it couldn't have been as aneurysm inducing as the Atari game based on that movie. BTW I hope the board game doesn't involve re-enactments of the Emerald Seer's spasmodic death, that scene was kinda unnerving.

Wow. X-Entertainment in the News Journal... it's kind of wrong in a way. Like two alternate universes coming together.
Granted, not like I didn't consider you to truly exist-- but you didn't exist on the *same* level as my local paper. There's the article on how another dead body was found in the C & D canal-- and hey! An article on He-Man!
It's super keen though. We get the News Journal at work in the break room, and for once the funnies won't be the first page I turn to! Go you!

Can someone tell me the name of that song that goes something like "...leader of the bandits died" and some other part about emulating the man he looked up to or something. I think its from the 70's...me no know.

I wanted a Snoopy Sno-Cone machine when I first saw it advertised on TV. I was very young back then, and my mother wouldn't get it because she either didn't have money or she was afraid of having to clean up after it or some other evil and wrong reason. It does not bother me much. I just had to live without so many many things from my childhood. Maybe that's why the kids teased me in school because they got all the cool stuff and I got nothing. Well, that's not entirely true. I did get an Atari 2600 to fulfil my need for electronic entertainment. Still works good too, but it's tough to get replacement controllers.
Say, didn't X-E have its own IRC chatrooom?

I just read the Nukie review, took three tries because I kept running out of time... damn you, responsibilities!!!
Anyway, since the there was a mention of but no link to eBay, I checked it out myself and found one Nukie vhs for sale... very cheap. Less than $3 when I looked. Here's the description of the movie from the sale:
A space child, lost in the universe, is abducted by the U.S. Space Foundation. In a desperate intergalastic search for the frightened little alien, his brother Nukie mistakenly lands in Africa where he is befriended by African twins. A great adventure movie. Box and tape are in good condition. Check out all my other movies, dvd's, and books.
"A great adventure movie."????? Don't buy from this guy, he must be desperate for the cash to buy more crack!

Hey, if you had a copy of Nukie wouldn't you try to talk it up in a desperate attempt to sell it? I know I would; I can see the barren nuclear fallout circle around the VHS now.
Chestnuts roasted by Molten @ 05/16/2003 09:04 AM EST
Matt! You're into obsquer 80's goodness, but DON'T mention the likeness Snoopy's hat has to a Power Dome from Devo's Freedom of Choice album?
You are Remiss on your Duities to the age of de-evolution, my friend.
Are We Not Men?

I have to agree with Molten. I imagine that a copy of Nukie in your possesion would cause strange occurances to happen in and around your home. The Ebay seller just wants to get the voodoo evil away from him and in someone else's house.

Matt, you are soooo lucky! I've always wanted a Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine! I may have to find one of these. Sure, I'll look like a dork buying one, but I could always say it's for my brother or my neighbors' kids...and Snoopy Sno Cones are probably a lot cheaper than sno-cones from the Wildwood Boardwalk.
Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 08/16/2003 09:44 PM EST
I also had the snoopy sno-cone-slushie-or whatever machine but i thought it sucked because it never made enough and you had to crank the stupid thing so long. It made a mess you had to clean up, so all in all it was more work than it was worth. They tasted good though maybe if it was bigger it woulda been a good product.
