05/12/2003 Entry: "Tropical Sprite Remix Review."

Tropical Sprite Remix has arrived, and it's ready to tropic the Hell out of you. I was pretty skeptical about the cola - if you look back at this past year, we've seen a ton of flops. 'Pepsi Blue,' while still in limited production, didn't exactly seize a big chunk of the market since IT TASTES LIKE ROTTING DEAD PEOPLE, DYED BLUE AND TRANSFORMED INTO SODA. As a byproduct of the soft drink companies' never-ending competition, our drinks are doomed to forever grow stranger and progressively taste more and more like 'something you can't quite put your finger on.' So, where does Sprite Remix fit into this?

Something I've learned by reviewing foods and drinks before is that people have their own tastes, and are willing to stand by them no matter how awfully wrong and self-effacing they may be. Other times, I've been wrong. When I reviewed 'Clamato,' rightfully claiming it was clam-flavored poison, pretty much every reader of the site from Canada e-mailed in to let me know how well the stuff works in mixed drinks. I've learned that no two tongues are alike, and one man's crap is another's juicy steak, just like the one Joey Pants fantasy-ate in The Matrix. JUST LIKE THAT STEAK. That said, I didn't find Sprite Remix at all offensive. It's not really my cup of carbonated tea, but it works on some level.

Remember 'Clearly Canadian,' or 'Mystic?' Those clear 'waters' that weren't really waters, but rather fizzy sodas in fruity flavors? Sprite Remix replicates their formula almost perfectly, with the added advantage of having a more recognizable brand name. And a cooler label - a much cooler label. It's pretty aromatic, too - once you twist the top off, you're greeted with the stench of concentrated berries. Oddly, concentrated berries smell just like a Glade air freshener.

Most importantly, you might even like the taste. It's not something I'd seek to drink again in the immediate future, or ever again, or if oil or gasoline were available, but some of you should enjoy it. If this counts for anything, I like it a lot more than plain ol' regular Sprite. As for its chances of surviving in the market - it's hard to say. The timing is right, since tropical drinks are decidedly summer fare. On a scale from 1-10, I'd give it a 6. There's really no methodology to that grade, it's just the first number than popped into my head. Well, actually, '14' was first, but totally inapplicable. Hey, did you know it's tropical? It is! It's tropical!!

Shit, try drinking the other summer drink, Mountain Dew: Orange infusion or something. It tastes like bad orange soda with a "dewey" aftertaste. Code red it ain't.

Hmmm we must get a different Pepsi Blue in Australia because it doesn't normally taste that bad here.

Of course we don't get that many gimmick drinks here. I think we have Pepsi Blue, Vanilla Coke (well after tasting the drink a couple of times I can only say I DON'T want to know where the Vanilla came from because it didn't come from a bottle) and if you're lucky and the planets are in allignment you can get Dr Pepper here still.

This Sprite Remix though reminds me of an Aussie soft drink company company (Traffic Stoppers perhaps?...Oh sorry I'm musing about Aussie companys when not many are going to have a clue what I'm on about) that created a clear cola. I only discovered it because I thought it was lemonade but that what comes to mind to me. The only question I want to know is how does it go with Vodka?...no I didn't mean that, I'll have to grab a bottle of it when it comes out here to Australia (about 12 months from now)

I work at blockbuster (you may now boo me), but they gave me a ton of Sprite Remix free, so I guess I could tell all the customers how ultra-mega-super-fantastic it is. I haaaaaaaated it the first time I had a bottle. Liquid Skittles is a pretty accurate way to describe it. But sence I had about 15 bottles of the stuff I kept drinking it. It grew on me after about the 3rd bottle now I love it. So give it time, you might love it too!

I drank it. First thing I thought was Mystic, which I hadn't had since I was like 12 (about 10 yrs ago). I will stand by my new gimmick soda much like I did with Crystal Pepsi when that was out and that is Vanilla Coke. I actually drink it instead of regular coke because the smooth taste of vanilla coke something or other that hopefully Chazz Palminteri will force me to say one day and give me my own boobblehead :))))

In reguards to weird sodas-- we can blame this influx on the succsess of Vanilla Coke. Now, I'm a Pepsi drinker *dodges any arrows, rubber chickens or copies of old 'Salute Your Shorts' episodes that may come her way*, but even I liked Vanilla Coke.

I tried that 'dnL' stuff that 7up put out too. It didn't make me want to pour cement down my throat like Pepsi Blue, but it wasn't exactly a party in my mouth.

I'm going to consider Tropical Sprite Remix a guilty pleasure of mine...I bought at least three bottles within a thirty minute period one day at school. There are times when I regret that I go to school in the Coca-Cola capital of the world...mixing every single drink at the World of Coke is not recommended for the faint of heart.

Sprite Remix is good, but not as good as letting some Fruity Pebbles cereal sit in milk for an hour, and then bottling up the fruity goodness of the milk that has drained the rainbow fruity essence of Fred Flintstone's obsessiveness.

I get suckered in to most new soft drink promotions, i'll try them all as long as lemon's not involved. I wasn't floored by the remix, although they're practically givin' the shit away at the gas stations. Just kinda, eh. Live wire isn't too shabby, but ya gotta be a orange soda maven to catch the subtle nuances. Alls i can say tho, is "DEATH TO THE EVIL AND UBIQUITOUS OPPRESSOR THAT IS SIERRA MIST!!!!!!!!!!!1111" The world needs one, perhaps two lemon/lime sodas and i'm sticking to my 7up and sprite guns. Could someone please explain why soda (or, as we Canucks prefer to call it, pop) need to keep changing? More importantly, why does Mountain Dew need a Red or Orange flavour? The original is urine, colouring it just looks worse. Although I love the ads--if you're brave, you'll dare to drink Mountain Dew; if you're normal, you'll take the crab juice.

And I HATE Pepsi blue. That's the last time I drink an experimental pop.

I haven't been able to try this new Sprite Remix stuff...but it sounds like I need to pretty damn quick. I did try the Mountain Dew stuff, it tastes like orange Starburst pretty much. Not bad in my opinion. Might have to stock pile this stuff if they really are only selling this over the summer.

I can't believe it: I cook an actual gourmet dinner and what does the dinner conversation turn to? Soda. My g/f tells me that she'd spent five minutes telling me about this Sprite Remix crap a few days ago and that it tastes like shite. I'm not sure if I'm curious enough to grab a bottle though: the only time I'm thirsty enough is after the gym, and that's the last thing I want to be slamming into my depleted body. (And after all, soda is all about quenching thirst, right? ;) )

I actually like Vanilla Coke (and the Diet version) but I can see how a lot of people wouldn't. I'm surprised it's lasted this long, actually: I can get case upon case of the stuff at the supermarket, but diet ginger ale? Exotic mystery liquor of the gods, apparently. I've never been able to drink cream soda, because that shit tastes like cough syrup to me. And not the pussy kid's cherry-flavoured kind. The nasty ass brown kind your emphysemic grandfather takes.

Still, above all, I'm easy for a bottle of orange and cream soda. Anything that tastes like a carbonated orange creamsicle, I'm all for. Carbonated Orange Creamsicle for Prez, I say!

Here's the rundown on all the sodas I've ever had:

Regular Vanilla Coke I can't taste the vanilla. Too many calories.

Diet Vanilla Coke see Regular Vanilla Coke, only with fewer calories. Actually, it tastes worse than Vanilla Coke.

Diet Coke with Lemon The lemon tastes like what Lemon Pledge smells like. I prefer this to Vanilla Coke.

Diet Pepsi Twist Not as lemony as Diet Coke with Lemon, and not as frequent either.

Fresca It's supposed to be grapefruit flavored, but I don't taste the grapefruit. This is good.

Diet Orange Slice BAD STUFF! Made me get hyper.

Stew Leonard's Black Cherry/Cherries & Cream/Root Beer I made this all one listing to conserve redundancy because they all tasted the same: Nothing special, all high in calorie. What I really wanted was to try the root beer flavor.

So what does my mother pick up in cases from the store? Caffiene Free Diet Coke/Pepsi.

Why can't they make diet root beer or diet cream soda? I feel so deprived.

I like Vanilla Coke and Pepsi, as well as Code Red. I like cherry Coke and Pepsi; I think those taste the same.
dNL was half-price at school so I was drinking it a lot; it's not half bad. Sprite Remix may need another try before I can judge it; I didn't like it. Live Wire- I like regular orange pop better. Give me Code Red any day.
And Pepsi Blue is horrible.

Has anyone tried Sprite Ice? Perhaps the USA got Sprite Remix, where as Canada got Sprite Ice. Imagine Sprite mixed in with a bottle of spearmint Listerine mouth wash. Yeah, its that gross. i could have tried Sprite Remix.. but here are some reasons that i did NOT..

1. my bosses tried it, and just from them drinking it, the place smelled like someone vomited pez.
2. they both made faces as if to say "this flavor isn't natural."
3. one of my bosses saying "pineapple lifesavers! THAT'S what it tastes like!"
4. and the most important reason of all... i tried Blue Pepsi. have we learned NOTHING from that fiasco?!

I have not seen the new Sprite Remix here and I do not know if I would try it...My taste of Sprite Ice turned me off of any 'new' pop flavours [Yes, I'm from Canada]...If I wanted to drink Halls cough drops, I would puree some, I couldn't even finish a bottle. And don't trust the Vanilla Coke ad when they say there is a 'hint of vanilla', it's like drinking a bottle of vanilla extract. Pepsi Blue IS poison, especially when it is warm. Pepsi Lemon, please don't taste like Coke! I'll stick with Pepsi and Barq's Cream Soda, thank you very much.

Vanilla Coke was cool for maybe a week when it was hard to get, I hate Dr. Pepper so Red Fusion was just red demon-pop, Pepsi Blue was kinda weird but not poison, and dnL is a tropical-tasting Mountain Dew ripoff. I tried Remix right when it came out, and to me it's like club soda with something "fruity" in it. It was kinda bland, but I didn't hate it. I wanna try Livewire, but I imagine it tasting like orange-scented Mr. Clean. Hmm.

Give me plain ol' Wild Cherry Pepsi any day. :D

So...has anyone seen that new Mountain Dew commerical with the Hulk? As non-Hulk goes to an anger management class, in like a church basement or something, and he's drinking Mountain Dew. I enjoyed the Tropical Remix. I think it tastes just like Sprite with a shot of Hawaiian Punch thrown in for a kick.

Just read over a press report on coke.com, and its official, the USA got Remix where Canada and Belgium got Ice. I too could not finish a full bottle of Sprite Ice. About 75% of it ended up being poured onto a large grass field behind the local 7-11. Thank god Coke decided to test run it only in 2 countries. I WILL kill myself if that liquid evil is ever mass produced.

Red Fusion Dr. Pepper is almost exactly the same as the regular - except it's red, and has a little more of a cherry taste. You're better off adding a shot of cherry syrup (they have that at 7-11's around her), if that's what you're into...

Trying my first Sprite Remix right now. It's... alright. Kinda like Sprite with a pineapple twist. It's pretty darn sweet, but then so is Sprite IMNSHO...

Well i like vanilla coke, Pepsi blue (im gonna get it for this) and sprite remix. Remix is awsome, its very popular. It's always sold out at my school..i have to buy it in the morning before lunches start. the dnL (i call it 7 upside down cuz it sounds better) I havn't tryed, but i heard its alright. Tried Sprite Remix yesterday. Smelled of Skittles. Tasted no lemon or lime. 100 calories per serving. At least it didn't have any caffiene. Regardless, I should have gone with the Fresca.

When I did the grocery shopping last night I saw that they had flats and flats of 7up Splash. I hear the stuff is like drinking liquid gummy worms.

Sometimes I'm really, REALLY happy that I'm a once-in-a-while health nut soda drinker.

Damn. I don't think there's a soda available in the UK which tastes like that. I'd buy it.

I don't really like new improved weird sodas, especially diet ones.
Why do pizza hut only give you a slice of lemon in your pepsi if it's diet? that isn't fair.

I did try the newish lemon flavoured fanta (as opposed to the old orange version, or the other new tropical one. I think it's tropical anyway.) and it gave me a patch of red itchy rashiness on my arm.

Hm. I'll probably try it because of the comparison to Mystic, cause I loved that shit when I was younger. Although I could just drink Mystic again, I suppose. But when I saw it in the store the other night it was all these new-fangled flavors and not one bottle of my beloved peach-vanilla or whatever I always drank... I was so brokenhearted :(

MMMMM...Sprite: Tropical Ass Remix. I was hoping for something decent, like the late, great Crystal Pepsi(sniff, I miss you) Pepsi Blue isn't that bad. DnL is wonderful. Code Red is nice as well. I have no life. I post about my fave soda. Kill me.

Well.. everyone's a critic, so here's my 2 cents. Vanilla Coke at first was okay, then i got used to it. The Sprite Remix wasn't all that, and what everyone said before me "IT'S FUCKING LIQUID SKITTLES!!". I don't drink Pepsi cause I'm developed an allergy from(no seriously)so screw Pepsi. But what I do miss is SURGE coke's answer to Mountain Dew but without the taste of hamster urine and the that god awful after taste it leaves.

I've tried Sprite Remix. It's not bad. I liked the description above that basically said "Sprite with a shot of pineapple." I'm not a huge fan of Sprite, so I don't know if it's something I'd drink on a regular basis.

Of the unusual-flavored sodas that debuted in the last year, Vanilla Coke is my unqualified favorite. I don't know if it tastes like Vanilla, but it's really good stuff. Dr. Pepper Red Fusion was also excellent, but I'm a fan of cherry sodas. Could not STAND Pepsi Blue. It tasted and looked like windshield wiper fluid. And my mom and brother LIKED it! Blecch! It must have warped their brains. The two new Moutain Dews (Shockwave and Code Red) are good for when you need a jolt and don't have coffee around.

BTW, I don't know if this is world-wide, but Pepsi just put out a Vanilla soda of its own. I haven't tried it yet, but I hope it's a marked improvement over Blue.

And, like many of you, I mourn the loss of Crystal (Clear) Pepsi. That was probably the best "unusual" flavor they ever did.
