I was always a big fan of the 'sand you can eat' variety of candy. I used to grind up Smarties and carry them around in a Zip-Loc like a grade school coke dealer. And am I the only person who used to completely devour Pixi-Stix, paper wrapper and all? I'm so ashamed.

My sister was addicted to those Fun Dips. I swear, at some points she lost feeling in her tongue from running so much sand and chalk over it. Then I'd give her a RedHot and it would be all better, after the crying stopped. Man, to be 18 again. And she would be 16 again.

Now she's a slurpee addict. DAMN YOU SUGAR BARONS!!!

Ah, Pixi-Stix. Colored sugar in a tube. It doesn't get any better than that. I can't remember if the different colored tubes tasted differently, but I know we would all trade around on the playground to ensure we got (what we considered) the greatest color. I think my personal fave was purple...maybe that's how my whole obssession started...

I was in a t-ball league for one season. I was always either catcher (keep in mind this was T-Ball!) or in the outfield. I was jealous of all the other dorks that didnt have to play and got to eat candy. Thank god the next year I got to join my bretheren...

I always liked the stix better than the sand...but i ate the sand too, of course.

Some guy was selling those Giant-Sized Pixie Stix that come in a plastic straw on a street corner. I couldn't resist, so i rolled down my window and yelled at him until he came over.

Somebody ought to make a grocery store for kids in college. It will sell ramen, coffee, and edible sand candies. That's all. Actually, I'd shop there, since I like Fun Dip AND pixi stix. Those goddang Lollipop Paint Shops killed the whole genre.

I too ate uncooked Ramen noodles, just about any kind of batter, play doh, and chapstick...by the looks of this you would think im overweight and unhealthy, but your way off im not overweight, unhealthy sure...you should consider doing an article on twin pops, trix ice pops, or those little juice barrels that came in all colors

Yeah Lik-M-Aids made me feel like a fiend. A sugar fiend. I guess it was like those old candy cigarettes (remember those?) best to get them started young... Matt you are so lucky, I was one of those unfortunate shmoes out on the field... Believe me ya didn't miss a thing... Got knocked unconcious in my first game! Spent the rest of the year playing the position of "scarecrow" LoL! Emphasis on the scare people... Don't have any funny memories of Lik-M-Aids, but I dare a friend of mine to sniff a crushed Sweet Tart up his nose. Sucker bled like a fountain...

I like those baby bottle things.

Its a yummy ring pop like baby bottle sucker you use to get at that sweet sweet colored and flavored sugar.

The sucker bit is too small to go all the way to the bottom of the thing, but you can make it work if you form a seal.

(Or enact a form of candy cunningulus on the bottle. Hmm.. can I even say that?)

wow i think i've been visiting x-e way too much man. earlier i was tryin to get some weed out this little ass baggie the dealer has switched and i actually started laughin thinkin bout how much the lil bag of weed looked like a fun pouch and how nice it'd b if they had little 'weed sticks' u could use to scrape out the weed with and afterwords maybe eat the weed stick for it's magical goodness.

Pixi Stix were a childhood staple, but was I the only one who had a problem with dampness by the middle of the stix? The paper straw would get wet and the candy stuck to it, creating sticky sugar-plugs that effectively stopped the flow of sugar into my gaping maw. So then you'd have to tear off the wet section of the stix, spilling half the pixi in the process? Or maybe that's just me. I do it with cigarettes and other smokables now (we all know the slang term for that so I won't use it here); my friends refuse to smoke after me. The upside of that is that I never have to share :)

This neighbor kid who used to live next door to me when I was little used to try and get me to snort that fun-dip. I love the stuff, but I remember trying it once and my eyes wouldn't stop watering for an hour. It's like shoving a lump of wasabi right up there. Kid's probably pushing crack on the street by now.

My Fun-Dip memories are of the ballpark also. For a long time I thought it was some ballpark-only treat. Like when I got older and had a hankering for some sand I'd have to go in search of some Little-League concession stand that happened to be open at 8am on a Wednesday.

I also remember having a debate with another kid as to whether the Lik-a-Stix were edible or not. I think that debate is still open. Technically, many things are edible . . . Play-Dough anyone?

You're not alone QoIR. I think everybody had that problem with pixi-stix. You're not alone. About the smoking thing, i understand that it's close to the same thing, but that's just kinda rude if you're tryin to pass it around. The end gets all slimy and moist and nobody else wants to smoke.

Pixi Stix-snorted them all the time. Hell, I still do. Okay, not really, but whatever I DO usually put up my nose, I just pretend that it's Pixi Stix dust. Works for me.

Fun Dip stix-hell, that was the best part. It was like getting dessert after eating all your candy.

When I was in 7th grade, I used to buy Bubble Tape and when the gum was all gone, I'd fill it up with Kool Aid powder. It caught on with my friends and we always mixed the sweetened stuff with the unsweetened stuff...you had to be a bad motherfucker to eat that sour shit.

Someone said this earlier:

I started my lik-a-maid addition in the 3rd grade in 1960, when they came in cellophane packets for a penny a piece. I especially loved the grape, and could eat only 25, one after the other, because my tongue gave out from the acid. 25 cents was a lot of money then, and 25 lik-a-maids was HEAVEN...then came Pixi Stiks...I loved grape and orange...for a while, I couldn't get lik a maids, so I stuck with Pixi Stik...I used to write the manufacturer and got an entire box of Pixi Stiks. Today, I still love to get the large sticks, now 75 cents to a dollar. Today's lik a maids are not at all like the old kind...today, they are very smooth, powder-like...they were much more granular then...can anyone relate???? I often wondered if I could become diabetic from all the sugar I have eaten in my life...I am currently hooked on Hersey Kisses (thanks to my daughter)...the new lik a maid are redundant with that stupid hard stick which one has to purchase...bad marketing idea, I think.
