04/17/2003 Entry: "C.U.T.I.E."

The latest article is about C.U.T.I.E. figures, Mattel's attempt to cash in on their more boyish success with the M.U.S.C.L.E. line, which came out in the same year. I had very little to say about these, and it shows. Still, I'd gotten enough e-mail about 'em to warrant a little article, so hopefully this will put all those 'what r those things that are luke MUSCLE but more for girls and dancing women?' e-mails. Tomorrow, hopefully, the Kool-Aid Man makes his triumphant return to X-E.

Y'know what that picture with the C.U.T.I.E.S. and the army of E.T. figurines looks like? A junior-high school dance. All the C.U.T.I.E.S. (girls) are out on the floor dancing like idiots while the E.T.s (guys) are standing around pensively dreading an invitation to join in. But I gotta tell you...there's something else at work in that image...something eerily unsavory. Maybe it's the dead expressions in the eyes of all those E.T.s, maybe it's the way they're all rubbing their saggy little bellies...whatever the case, you can tell something terrible is about to happen...

There's a booth at my local flea market that has had the same five boxes of CUTIES marked for 10 cents each for at least two years now.

Oh, and on the UK/US potato chip debate: I was testing for a job I wanted the other day and noticed that they had "Hot Dog and Mustard" chips in the vending machine. I was really, really grossed out by the thought of it.

I had like, more cuties than bombs dropped on Baghdad. I SWEAR! I used to light them on fire though and watch their little bodies melt away. Always good for a second or third degree burn anyway.

Holy Crap! An Army of E.Ts!! They've arrived! Why did nobody listen to me when I tried to warn them??

There IS something sinister about that picture! The way the sweet children play on, blissfully unaware of what is aproaching behind them...

I'd give 5 bucks to see the picture taken AFTER that one! Speilberg might have an avenue for a sequel afterall!

I would say that the Pac-Man tattoo is relatively self explanatory. I'd really like to know the story about the tattoo on Matt's other arm (Saturn?)

I missed out the past couple of days on the cadbury eggs, so here's my $1.02.

First I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, cadbury eggs. too much sweet, just nasty, and believe me I can take sweet. I ate a 5 lb bag of gummie bears in 3 hours once.

Second on stuff missing in the states, I was an exchange student to Australia back in 99. The best thing there was Tim Tams!!!!! I love Tim Tams! I love Tim Tams! I love Tim Tams! I love Tim Tams! I love Tim Tams! I love Tim Tams! Anywho, we also should have vegimite just for kicks.

OOh I love Vegemite/Marmite. I can't find anyone in the US who'll eat it though. If anyone tries, the thing to remember is to spread a THIN layer of it on bread, maybe add some cheese. It's like delicious salty tar from Heaven.

Also, Brandon, you've now made me curious about Tim-Tams. What the heck are they?

I used to carry my Ravage around in my pockets as well. ^_^

Had all the figures you posted except the SquawkTalk set. No idea where they all went to over the years. :(

I also had a brown Ravage cassette. Do not remember where I got it from, but I thought it was pretty cool having a Ravage of a different color.

The pictures of Rumble and Frenzy are reversed. Rumble was red and Frenzy was blue. For some reason their colors were reversed on the cartoon (yes, Frenzy did appear, but not often), so the pictures should have shown a blue cartoon Rumble with a red figure, and the opposite for Frenzy.

While reading XE, several things happened:

1) When clicking on a mail link, Netscape Messenger or whatever the email client for Netscape is called asked if I wanted to set up an email account with it being the head client, and one of the options was setting up an AOL account. I didn't think AOL would let you set up an email server with a third-party mail client. Unfortunately, after trying it, it never worked, and I've spent the last half hour trying to find out what AOL's mail server is. It was no good.

2) My computer has suddenly come up with a case of the stutters, which stalls the performance of it. A memory upgrade is muchly needed, which could be why my machine stutters badly. Agree? Disagree?

And just to add to Tin Man's catchphrase, I'd like to slap somebody's arse with both hands myself. :)

i alway prided (?) myself on being a bit of a tf geek and i never knew that there were that many tf figures that turned into tapes...................the dinosaur and ravage slap arse with both hands!

i always thought that amodern soundwaqve could be a bit hifi, with his tripod speakers as mini bots, but starscream, ravage etc, should be imortalized as cell phone, cos they are everywhere, and noone whould know.

The poor cassettes never had team names like the Stunticons and Dinobots. So I just call them the Cassettecons and Audiobots. The poor guys miss out.

Oh, and be careful bringing up the Rumble/Frenzy color issue in a Transformers forum or newsgroup. It's on that list of questions that have been brought up so much over the years, there may be much fuel spilled. :D
