My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Christmas Vacation.

Here’s the deal: I’m taking a break. I’m fried. :)

I think this has become increasingly obvious, but, if it hasn’t: I am fried.

I have a lot of work to do for real life stuff, and I think I’ve been giving too much time to this other thing here. (Which I love to do, but as it’s now honestly a hobby and nothing else, it’s become stupid to treat it like a business. Just have fun.)

I was originally going to can the videos and focus on just the blogs, but when I plopped down to write one today, it hit me: This really isn't a good time for that, and wouldn't be even if I wasn't fried.

I’ll see how I feel in a week, after I’ve knocked out some of real work. I’m sorry that so many vows have been broken lately, but at least we can agree that they were silly vows. Bunny slippers and Christmas soda are not life or death.

It’s all good. It’s all good with me, so hope it’s all good with you. No weirdness. Let’s hug it out.

I’ll put up an all-purpose holiday thread tomorrow, which will be up for a while. (lol a year)

See you soon!

Crystal Skull was indeed terrible.

Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish buds (He-bros?). Forget that Happy Holidays nonsense, we acknowledge your awesome Jewish Holiday!

Actually, has Matt ever considered a Hanukkah Calendar/Gifts/etc? Maybe Waiterbot’s jewish and you can only do an 8 day comic. Just a thought.

BTW, on the whole Christmas/Holidays thing, I’m an atheist but I don’t mind Merry Christmas. I never take offense to it. I do try to say Holidays because I know there are others that do, and it’s no real skin off my nose. Everybody gets to keep the holidays (ha!) in their own way.

@tigerfan, Matt already told us that he didn’t win a basket at the bazaar this year.!

Enough about the Batman trailer (but I agree with tanta, the trailer was okay but I trust the movie is going to be good), what did you guys think of The Hobbit trailer? I thought it packed a lot into its 2+ minutes. I’ve always loved LOTR more than The Hobbit, but I’m still ridiculously excited about seeing this come to life, especially with Martin Freeman involved. I think he’ll make a great Bilbo, but I think Ian Holm should be playing Bilbo again. Yes, this happened years before Fellowship, but the point is made that Bilbo stopped aging once he got the ring so shouldn’t he look the same in The Hobbit when he acquires the ring as he does in Fellowship when he gives up the ring?

Matt thank you for all the great posts over the last few months. I don’t know how you weren’t fried by September honestly. I like everyone else here appreciate all the work you put into your blog. Take a break and a breather man you’ve freaking earned it 10 times over for keeping me entertained daily for the past several months.

There’s plenty of old articles for me to catch up on. I read you from like 2000 to 2002 and then started up again a few years ago with a few reads here and there from time to time. There’s always the 1,500 posts (I know I read about this up until there were 995 posts, don’t ask me why I remember this) I haven’t read on Photog to keep me entertained for centuries to come if nothing else.

Matt, just wanted to say that I have loved this site since 2002. I understand that you’re busy and fully realize why the break is necessary. With that said, I hope we get another slice of Christmas X-E goodness before that fateful day passes us by again.

P.s.: Is there any chance the site will get “real” articles again? I miss those a whole lot.

Just thankful that this site is still around. Played a huge part in my teens and always made me giggle and filled my heart with an intangible feeling of warmth.

I liked Crystal Skull.

I want one of these:

Brandon: I enjoyed The Hobbit trailer. It was pretty dark so I hope Peter Jackson includes some of the humor that made the Hobbit so great and individual. I really like the Freeman choice, especially since they worked in Ian Holm in the “storyteller,” role. It is a nice way to bridge the movies. It’s going to be a very long year! I could do without all the side story they are doing just to stuff in characters like Galadriel and Legolas though.

tanta07, That actually sounds like the perfect reason not to go back and re-watch it. Take what enjoyment you can and don’t go looking for disappointment because you will always be able to find it.

Terror Claws, Kuse actually is Jewish, if you recall. And Box might be, I suppose.

Enjoy your time off, Matt. My advice would be to not make anything new until you feel the itch to do so (even if that means next Halloween). Don’t do it out of a sense of duty or obligation. That’ll just make you miserable.

Chestnuts roasted by Alex @ 12/21/2011 7:23 PM

I haven’t watched the Hobbit trailer, because I actually kind of like going into movies blind. I’m weird, I guess.

All of this crystal skull talk is bringing to mind the Aztec skull from House II: The Second Story (1987). Does anyone else remember this thing? I couldn’t have been the only one in the theater thinking of Gramps.

Man, the Christmas spirit is in full swing at the Church house tonight! I have the the newest Office Christmas episode on (just finished watching White Christmas), and wrapped a bunch of presents. My wife is upstairs now wrapping some stuff for me (woot!). I’m downstairs at my desk now surrounded by Christmas decorations…love it!

Anyone else in the spirit?

Chestnuts roasted by Church @ 12/21/2011 9:22 PM

Rhino. I still think or your Halloween diorama.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/21/2011 10:41 PM

Of. In a good way. It’s awesome.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/21/2011 10:43 PM

Goddamn, I don’t know. Matt, clean this up. I had a day.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/21/2011 10:46 PM

I just noticed something, the banner says “X-Entertainment loves Christmas and will not stop talking about it, ever.” When you put up the all-purpose holiday thread, I’d alter that, too :)

Also, your copyright says 2007.

OC in high gear tonight!

Chestnuts roasted by Ggadwa @ 12/21/2011 11:20 PM

Rhino,

Kuse is Jewish, but by tradition, Box is only Jewish if his Mom is Jewish. I’m pretty sure the Winninghams worship Althea or something, so probably nothing kosher in that background (rimshot).

So what is everyone else doing to prep for Xmas? I wanted to watch A Christmas Story tonight but spent my evening cursing Little Tikes Company as I assembled a neighborhood market stand for my daughter.

I wasn’t blown away by The Dark Knight Rises trailer (I don’t want to think about football when I’m watching Batman), but I’m very excited for the movie. Will it be as good as The Dark Knight? Of course not. Will it be awesome? Yes, yes, it will.

The Avengers trailer, on the other hand, made me giddy as hell.

I haven’t seen The Hobbit trailer. I’m sure I’ll see the movie, but I’m not a big LoTR fan. I saw the movies once and if I never see them again, that’s okay with me. I believe Randal Graves said it best when he said, “All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a fucking volcano.”

I liked Crystal Skull well enough, but when Shia was swinging with the monkeys, I knew something was amiss.

I was under the impression that Ghostbusters 3 would have the old regime turning things over to a new crew anyway. I really want to see a good Ghostbusters 3.

Finally, I’ve been seeing this old commercial on tv a lot this holiday season (for Georgia Power instead of Edison) and it makes me happy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n95JX3zN53g&feature=related

Play it safe around the tree!

Enjoy the time away Matt! Hopefully you’ll be enjoying some of the marathon that’s almost here. Can’t wait!

Back at work and feeling Christmassy. Got the tiny desk tree lit up in my office and getting a few things wrapped up!

X-E question time!

Does anyone still try to sneak a peek at their presents? Any hardcore snoopers that just never grew out of this practice?

Me? Yeah, you have to hide things from me like crazy or I will def take a peek. I also try to shake present boxes and feel presents to see if I can guess what’s inside. My wife won’t put anything under the tree for me until Christmas morning because of my bad habits. Anyone else? Speak up!

Chestnuts roasted by Church @ 12/22/2011 10:29 AM

I’m a hardcore presents-snooper, and my wife must have caught on, because there isn’t a single present for me under tree yet. I think she has them stashed somewhere.

As I kid, I took present-snooping to ridiculous levels. The one scheme my parents still talk about is one year I looked for the toys I wanted in the Sears catalog, which listed their shipping weights. Then I went and weighed all my presents on the bathroom scale. I think I understand why my wife is hiding my presents…

Chestnuts roasted by tanta07 @ 12/22/2011 10:51 AM

I don’t peep, but last year I happened to check my Amazon wish list a few days before Christmas and saw that a few items had been fulfilled. So I knew ahead of time what I was getting. That was disappointing. :( I’d rather be surprised!

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 12/22/2011 11:09 AM

I’ve no temptation to snoop. I also call blasphemy on Christmas Eve present opening. It’s all about the anticipation for me.

And if you’re at work (like me) and feeling Christmasy, this makes for great background noise. It was posted on here a few years ago, and all the warm fuzzy 80′s Christmas tv specials are still up. Such a brilliant site.

Chestnuts roasted by velouria_78 @ 12/22/2011 11:19 AM

@Cameron T & velouria_78, my wife loves the surprise and anticipation of Christmas as well. For me, part of the fun was always trying to find out. I guess it is a lot easier now that I’m grown to find out so maybe next year I’ll give the sneaking/peeking a break.

My wife and I also have consolidated finances (one bank account/one savings account and all the money goes there) so I guess if I really wanted to I could log on and find out where our money is spent. Also, even if I knew everything she was going to give me I am still excited to receive it!

Chestnuts roasted by Church @ 12/22/2011 11:29 AM

I would so much rather be surprised. I try to avoid even looking at my wish list close to Christmas so I don’t accidentally see something was purchased. The problem is that I am also a natural problem solver, so I tend to figure out big surprises whether I mean to or not. My wife absolutely hates that, by the way.
