Summer Megaparty 2010: Friday, August 13th.

Wheee, it's Friday the 13th! Today, you're instructed to drop everything and watch Jason slash his way through a dozen deadly theatrical opuses, each one more opusey than the last. Decades ago, Friday the 13th was merely a 24 hour period that you wouldn't attempt jet skiing or anything involving parachutes during. Now it belongs to Jason. It's all his. And it should say so on the calendar that the Chinese restaurant always gives me when I spend more than fifteen bucks.

I've written about Jason's adventures many times on the site, and though I'd prefer you to watch his movies rather than read about them, I must consider the off chance that one of you suffers from an annoying and rare type of selective blindness that allows you to read things but not watch movies. Below, X-E's collection of Friday the 13th crud:

Friday the 13th: Part 2!
Friday the 13th: Part IV!
Jason Voorhees Visits The Arsenio Hall Show
The Many Faces of Jason Voorhees
The Five Best 3D Moments of Friday the 13th Part III
Jason's Kiddy Halloween Costume
My Life-Sized Audio-Animatronic Jason
Jason & Alice Cooper Unite!
Jason's Living Dead Doll
Jason and Leatherface: The Wallflowers
Random Jason-Themed Matchbox Car
Jason & Freddy Spitball Toys

Ridiculously, I can't find any networks running a F13 marathon tonight. There are rumors that some of you are going to watch Jason Takes Manhattan shortly and turn the comments section into an ongoing commentary on the film. I hope this is true, but if not, you're all demanded to seek out and watch at least one of the F13 movies tonight. If you don't, you're not allowed on X-E anymore.

Today's post was originally going to be about fingerpainting. I was worried about doing something on fingerpainting so close to a crafty Play-Doh article, as it might have inferred that X-E was mutating into a benign guide to surviving the perils of babysitting. On the other hand, I really wanted to fingerpaint today.

I remember fingerpainting as a child, vaguely. It doesn't hold up to the rosy memories, probably because kids don't worry about ruining expensive pants or tablecloths. With my paper plate palette and whatever artistic vision I could muster, my hands went in and looked all clowny.

My interpretation of Pamela Voorhees's severed head complete, it's obvious that the only reason my shit ain't hanging in the Guggenheim Museum is because the people running it are serpentine clods.

And if you think the big reveal that I was actually painting something F13-related was something, wait until I completely switch topics and write about Pop-Tarts.

Finding summery stuff to write about is a struggle, which is why I never promise nothing but summer-related articles during these Megaparties. I do keep summer in mind as a general theme, though. Here, I guess I felt that white and red pinstripes were somehow seasonal. Or maybe it's the fact that these Pop-Tarts want to be ice cream.

From the Pop-Tarts "Ice Cream Shoppe," it's two hot/cold breakfast sensations guaranteed to taste like whatever flavor you dream about whenever a Friendly's commercial interrupts your asinine TBS reruns. "Hot Fudge Sundae" and "Ice Cream Sandwich" are the two varieties I found. There may be others, but it's hard to imagine that there are that many kinds of ice cream-themed Pop Tarts. The world is crazy, not perfect.

The "Ice Cream Sandwich" Pop-Tart, shown left, is fighting an uphill battle. I'd almost always prefer an ice cream sandwich over a messy sundae, but there's no denying that the "Hot Fudge Sundae" Pop-Tart looks to be eight times more of a party. I feel like I wouldn't be able to eat that thing without a jazz band blaring saints-related songs within three feet of me.

Distinct monikers aside, both flavors taste almost exactly the same. If you've long wished for Pop-Tarts that taste like ice cream, I must sadly report that these do not. However, the smell, mouthfeel and flavor is eerily reminiscent of Count Chocula, and I'd rather have Count Chocula Pop-Tarts anyway. And not just because it's Friday the 13th and it'd be kinda thematic.

All the Halloween movies? I’d be down for that, except I don’t own Rob Zombie’s Halloween II and I wouldn’t sit through Halloween Resurrection again if you paid me. But I do have the producers cut of part 6 so I could just watch that while the rest sit through parts 8 and 10.

3 “Fridays the 13ths” in 2012? Nice. Now I can catch up with the rest of the series before the world ends and the human race continues with elite snobs.

Matt,

I just sent you my MS Paint Contest entry. If you didn’t receive the e-mail, please click my name. The most recent entry on my blog contains a link to the image file. Thanks! :)

Berdo: You must be predicting a Republican will be elected into office in 2012.

Chestnuts roasted by BJ @ 08/14/2010 12:01 PM

BJ, nah, that happened two years ago. I know you were gone for a while so maybe you missed that. LOL

Chestnuts roasted by Berdo drank Tab @ 08/14/2010 1:05 PM

Oh no, I was around when that happened. I even voted him into office (slaps himself on the wrist for doing such a shameful thing…voting).

Okay, I think we need to change topics and focus on the latest blog. We don’t need to turn this into a political site. It already briefly became XSPN, it doesn’t need to become XNN or X-SPAN.

Major League II is on Comedy Central, and of course they have to advertise about The Roast of David Hasselhoff that’s tomorrow. Hey, that’s something we should all watch and give our opinions about.

Oh, and sorry for the triple post.

Proud to say that I did watch A little Jason last night. And Texas Chainsaw massacre. I know yesterday wasn’t really intended for Leatherface but I felt bad omitting him. Then I felt bad for Freddy so the MRS. and I drew pictures of Freddy. And we drank pina coladas!
All in all it was a pretty good Friday the 13th, which is a good day to be named Lucky either way.

I watched the Friday the 13th remake last night. Doesn’t feel like a real F13 flick. On another note, Jason’s mother’s head in F13 part 2 still gives me the creeps.

After my streaming thing crapped out on me last night and I ended up missing the last half of Part 8. Since I was still in a major F13 mood, I ended up going up to Blockbuster and renting Parts 6 and 7. Watched 6 and got through most of 7 before I got really sleepy and dozed off. I’ll finish it up tonight, but now I’m really in the mood to see “the good ones”, so I think I’m going to go back and see 2, 3, and 4 again, and if I’m feeling really frisky, I’ll check out 5 too, although I think that was the point where the quality started to go. I feel the same way about the NOES movies too.

Anxiously awaiting the results of the Paint contest. If I don’t make the cut, I’m boycotting X-E forever. I already know of one former X-E’er who is currently doing just that because they felt they got snubbed on the Die-O-Rama thing, but I ain’t naming names. And that’s why you don’t see him or her posting here anymore. For real.

I’m just funnin’ though. I couldn’t ban this place…even if Matt came out and said his favorite band was Nickleback and that he thought the F13 remake was better than all the originals. I’d just have to pray for him.

That’s serious pressure. If only there were more crab hats to go around. :(

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/14/2010 2:44 PM

I only saw two things on tv last night on Jason. Friday the 13th remake was on HBO and His Name was Jason was on one of the Starz channels. Only thing, they both came on after midnight, so it was technically Saturday the 14th.

Chestnuts roasted by DESandman @ 08/14/2010 2:46 PM

Wow. Haha, as much as I love “him or her”, that’s kind of silly. Maybe if it had been more of a surprise it would’ve gotten its due. It’s too bad… If “he or she” is lurking, “he or she” should just come back!

I didn’t enter this paint one, but I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries. I love these drawing type contests where something sloppily thrown together can beat out something that took hours simply based on originality and the feeling it evokes.

Crab hat or no, (because, really, you might never receive your crab hat), I think it’s prize enough to have an entry posted on xe and commented on by Matt.

Chestnuts roasted by Amy @ 08/14/2010 2:55 PM

I don’t really expect to win, but I just wanted to have a place in the contest. Every voice counts. In addition, the more entries in the contest, the more entertaining it is.

Chestnuts roasted by Berdo drank Tab @ 08/14/2010 3:12 PM

Just tallied ‘em up. 80 entries exactly. This means that there’s no way to possibly feature all of them in a single entry, so as usual, going to have to spread it over a few. Choosing the victor is going to be tough. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/14/2010 4:16 PM

I can’t wait to see them all, this is going to be explosive (I just saw The Expendables so everything is explosive now).

Chestnuts roasted by Fox @ 08/14/2010 4:38 PM

Matt: I guess I should clarify. The person I was talking about earlier isn’t banning X-E because they didn’t win, but rather because their entry wasn’t mentioned at all. They’re not being a spoil-sport because they lost.

As for this one, do you plan on unveiling the winner in the first post today, or are all the posts spread out going to act as a lead-up to the big winner at the end?

In other news, my cousin just e-mailed me to let me know he just downloaded the entire series of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and wanted to know if I wanted him to burn me a copy. Hell yes!

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 08/14/2010 4:51 PM

Must have been Matt. :P

Dat dat cha cha.

I don’t care what ANYONE says, the F13th remake was AWESOME!!! Happy SNT :)

Chestnuts roasted by ULTRAMAN @ 08/14/2010 8:27 PM

Maybe I should give the new F13 another shot. I only saw it once, but I wasn’t a fan. Even though it isn’t true, to me, it felt like an F13 movie made by people who only read about what the franchise was all about, and what its calling cards were. The F13 spirit just wasn’t there for me.
