Summer Megaparty 2010: Kool-Aid FunFizz, and Unrelated Survey.

Already got a slew of great entries for X-E's Least Favorite TV Character Paint Contest, with very few duplicates. The results show is shaping up to be a spectacle. Keep 'em coming. We can validate each other.

Today marks the momentous rebirth of the Kool-Aid Section, which has hid dormant for longer than some of your children have been alive. We have the folks at Target to thank, because they introduced me to Kool-Aid FunFizz. It is what it sounds like. Kool-Aid that fizzes.

Because I like to see a large number of comments and realize that a Kool-Aid review's feedback thread would fail to create them, we need an attached survey.

In the comments, tell the world about the best amusement park ride you've ever been on. Tell us what it is, where it is, and why you love it. "Amusement park ride" is a catchall, mind you: Anything from roller coasters to tilt-a-whirls to haunted houses to Mickey's Philharmagic can apply. I'd tell you mine, but I already did.

Amy: On your last comment, which I’ve moved to the bin (temporarily?) — can you e-mail me about that?

Yeppers. I sent it to matt@x-entertainment.com — is that right?

I remember in ’05 I came here after doing an internet search for the extinct Dracula Castle of Wildwood. Is it normal to get a little emotional about such things?

Haunted Mansion. I’m biased working for the Mouse and all, but it’s been my favorite since childhood. (Sidenote: not nearly as fun when the lights are on.)

The coaster that drops you straight down at Busch Gardens Williamsburg is Griffin, not Apollo’s Chariot. I know so because I haven’t been there since before Griffin opened and Apollo’s Chariot (AWESOME coaster, btw) is a straight out-and-back coaster whose younger brother is Nitro at Great Adventure.

P.S. Fun Fizz has been around maybe half a year? I’ve only ever found the lemonade flavor… I mean Laughin’ Lemonade.

P.S.S. Matt, the “comment on the blog” link on the Fun Fuzz article takes you back to a 2006 entry about apples… which is fun.

I only just saw the Fun Fizz at work today. This is my first encounter with them in this area. They’re a little pricey, but they’re different and may be worth trying.

My favorite amusement park ride is also in Wildwood, but it’s far more benign than the late lamented Castle Dracula. A week ago, I visited my parents and brother, who now live in Erma, about 10 minutes from Wildwood on the mainland. We went to Wildwood for the evening and strolled the Boardwalk, and I remembered how much I used to love doing that…and how cool the Giant Ferris Wheel is at night. I’ve always loved the Giant Ferris Wheel. I used to ride it by myself all the time when I lived in Wildwood. On clear days, you can see all the way to Cape May.

What is it that people find so interesting about Moon Pies? You know what’s REALLY interesting? They have an ice cream at the store that’s flavored after Moon Pies.

La Tagada. I imagine it’s a little too dangerous for the U.S. on account of people being sued and stuff. It’s this circle thing that spins around fast and goes up and down randomly. You sit on the side of the circle and there are no seatbelts. Lots of fun. But you are sore the next day.

So I’ve been following random links in articles lately, trying to read every article you’ve ever written for this site (my GOD you’ve been at this for a long time) and I just came across the article about Siamesie and Mr. Pacu. I have to know, whatever happened to Mr. Pacu?

Moon Pies are AMAZING.

Jugendsehnsucht: Loving the list, man. Thanks a lot. Now I’ve got a whole new set of bands to spend way too much time and possibly money on (slowly building up a respectable vinyl collection).

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 08/10/2010 1:48 AM

Most welcome, dude!
Yeah, IIRC, some of what I mentioned is long out of print, and stuff like that can fetch seriously scary prices on the used market. It can of course be heard through other means… *cough*googleblogsearch*cough*

It warms my heart to see so much activity on the site.

I wanna find me some effervescent Kool-Aid. We have a few packets of orange and a few black cherry. The black cherry Kool-Aid is sweet(in coolness and flavor)! Good stuff!

I’m going to take this amusement park ride on a journey through the sad and tragic, just in time for the thread to change so nobody’s heart will be broken.

Years ago, I drove some friends to Rye Playland, a shitty old amusement park outside of NYC, which has the most dangerous roller coaster ever, “The Dragon Coaster”. It is very rickety and splintered, and the support beams creak and moan as the coaster goes past the suckers waiting on line as if to warn them that death, should they board the ride, is imminent.

We waited forever and got on the Dragon Coaster. Somewhere near the top, my car keys fell out of my pocket and into the machinery. I was everyone’s ride home, so they had to be found. And when the ride was over, we discovered that mid-air, my best friend’s boyfriend dumped her. Then we all had to stand around together getting hated by everyone as the park employees shut down the ride and obtained my keys. Then we got to drive home together in my tiny LeBaron, including the recently split up couple. But they got back together eventually and they’re married!

The Dragon Coaster – BEST AMUSEMENT PARK RIDE EVER.

Kool-Aid Fizzes are perfect for the bottled water the Army provides here in Iraq. They should make them standard issue :) People have been sending them to me in care packages. Lemon and Purple make a great combo.

Traditionally my favourite amusement park rides are “Hershey’s Chocolate World”: an educational ride where they show how they make chocolate, and “The Super-Duper Looper”: a roller-coaster with two loops, both at Hersheypark.

In more recent years however, my favourite ride is the 3D-XD theater at Knoebel’s. It’s a simulated roller-coaster. Basically, you sit in a chair that feels like a roller-coaster seat wearing 3-D glasses, and they show a POV movie of a roller-coaster (which one depends on the time of day) while shaking your chair in tune with it. The effect is done really well and it feels like you’re there.

The cool thing is since it’s done with CG animation the roller-coaster can be anywhere so it’s like you can ride a roller-coaster through space or under water, etc.

Rev.- I haven’t been to Rye Playland in well over 10 years. The last time I was there was in winter of ’98 for a NY Rangers open practice. I have great memories going there as a kid. Now, I don’t know if this is true, but, I was told, when I was growing up, that a drunk lady on the Dragon Coaster stood up in her car just before entering the first tunnel and got decapitated. Whether it’s true or not, I don’t know. I’ve been on that coaster hundreds of times, and you better believe that my ass has and will always be planted in my seat.

They should have staff splash water on you randomly if it’s under water. If it’s in space they should randomly cut off any source of oxygen getting into the room.

I really wish the underwater theme walk/ride was real in Jaws 3D. Minus the stop animated shark and flooding tubes, But keep the chewed up dead guy.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 08/10/2010 2:53 PM

jugenschedsdt I was totally gonna mention the chernobyl ferris wheel! I couldn’t remember where it was though. Is that the one that little kid fell off of and people pointed and laughed as he fell?

Another fave of mine is the looping star ship type rides…sort of like a pendulum but pauses in the middle up side down and then goes all the way around.

I had bruises all over my head after riding the scream machine at six flags. And I almost fell out of Rolling Thunder but omg it was a rush!

And the ghetto looking spook house dark ride at Keansburg board walk in Keansburg NJ

Moon Pies are gross, if you ask me. But then I don’t like marshmallow. Or stale things.

Mandy- I was totally gonna use Snookie for the contest. Damn!!

Tetsu, I just went to Knoebel’s for the first time in June. My favorite ride there was the Looper! And of the course, their version of the Haunted Mansion is pretty fun too.
