My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

YOU BEDDER WASH OOT.

Well, it's Christmas Eve! Officially! Plooky plockily! I still need to buy a few presents, I still need to shave for the first time since 1937, and I still need to stuff 50 mushrooms with breadcrumbs, garlic, oil and my top secret ingredient. I am not ready. But, I have lots of wine. And sake. And eggnog.

Thanks for spending another holiday season with X-E! The 2009 Advent Calendar is complete! This year's was a soul-sucking sacrifice to get done, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and I'm glad that when I'm seeing stars from the wine/sake/eggnog twelve hours from now, I'll be able to think of those stupid little characters having a merry Christmas instead of being eaten by crabs. Ironically, we'll have just finished eating crabs ourselves by then. Their legs, anyway.

Full disclosure: Really wish I would've had time to post more "normal" holiday stuff this season -- that's my one regret. Well, that and the fact that we were too busy and frantic to even get a Christmas Tree. And that I didn't use the foot of snow we got to build an ice fort. Yay, wine. I had to focus on the AC, because once that thing gets away from me, there's no catching up. Hopefully we can do some more "standard" celebrating between now and New Year's?

Your support is so appreciated -- thanks again for making this dinosaur of a site still worth mashing my hands on an ash-encrusted keyboard for after all these many years. Have a great holiday, and please use the comments to talk about your own Christmas celebrations -- the parties, the people, the traditions, and all of that shiny new plastic.

I've gotta go find a razor, scotch tape, and a department store that's still open. Below: Random happy pictures.

I'll see ya for the Fallout Thread -- have a good one!

I picture Mista Snowman sounding like Frosty from the original cartoon special.

Back in town…comeon fall out. Show is coming down but we are headed out to dinner and then to see Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Razzy-

Avatar on the big screen in 3D was awesome… but the story, not so much. The other day I was thinking “I just wish I could watch Avatar on the Big Screen in 3D about 10 more times.”

Too bad it’s majesty won’t be captured as well on the DVD release.

Jimmy – I saw Avatar in 3D too, at the IMAX yesterday. The 3D effects were amazing…but I thought the story was kind of boring.

Me too, Ultraman. Lipton is a pretty easy one too. One character in an old AC once said that Waiterbot sounds like Bea Arthur on helium. I picture him more with a deep, echoey voice that’s so dramatic it’s ridiculous.

Yeah, OK guys you’re right. The story was VERY predictable,
and I NEVER want someone to waste their money,
but I… I …
I guess I got nothing.
It was though, to me, a different experience that I never expected from sitting in a theater.
It was fucking amazing.

I just got to Lubbock after Christmas in Plano. Holy crap they had like 18 inches of snow here in Lubbock!

Anxiously awaiting the fallout thread! It’s one of my favorite threads of the year. Hope everyone is doing well!

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 12/27/2009 10:13 PM

what’s the fallout thread?

Chestnuts roasted by Razzy the Cat @ 12/27/2009 10:18 PM

Razzy the Cat
The Fallout thread is where we post all the crap we got for Christmas…

Cameron T.: It’s too bad you just got home, your favorite musical was on tonight…yodel-lay-hee-hoo!

I saw Avatar in 3D on a regular movie screen (not Imax). While I feel the 3D was not intrusive (meaning not in your face and forced to be noticed) it was still pretty cool.

However, I remember playing this exact movie in a little PS title you all might know as Final Fantasy VII. Seriously, Google the story of Avatar and FF7 and it’s almost pretty much the exact same thing. Even down to the whole life force/tree of life thing. There are things that are different, but still way to close to FF7 for me to say Cameron has broken any sort of new ground, and I like him.

On it’s technical merits, it’s definitely a sight to behold. I felt the story was kind of predictable though.

I kind of have my own voices for the charactes in my head from the AC. Waiterbot is pre-determined due to his VLOGS, and the other are hard to describe.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, mine was kind of depressing since I didn’t see my family because I didn’t have gifts for them, so I just got hammered and drowned my sorrows in liquor.

Can’t wait for the Fallout Thread. My girl got me 26 Transformers which made my Christmas alot better than it should have been.

I haven’t seen Avatar, but I’m going with South Park, that it seems too much like “Dances With Wolves + Smurfs.”

I’ll spoil one gift I got for Christmas: New Super Mario Bros Wii. If you love the old-school Mario Platformers, this is the game for you. Sometimes remaking Super Mario Bros. isn’t such a bad idea. Excellent execution. There’s elements from the original 3, Super Mario World AND Yoshi’s Island, while adding a few new modern twists, like the Penguin Suit and all the stuff you have to use the wiimote for.

You even get to battle all 7 Koopalings (with remixed Fortress and Boss music when you fight them!) along with Bowser Jr. AND Kamek. First you fight them in the Fortress, which is exactly like how you fight them in Mario 3.

I’m currently on the Castle level of Boss 3, which is the one where you fight Lemmy, my favorite Koopaling. It also happens to be Ice World, which I now despise so very, very much. I never liked Ice Worlds, and this one certainly took the cake.

I got that too Norbert

Thanks for the AC…I hope it didnt kill your holiday spirit for next year, and I did miss the church raffle/bazaar this year like mandy pointed out…

Matt secretly didn’t go to the church raffle. He is a heathen. :)

Just kidding. Please don’t slap the back of my head.

I got an R2D2 figure to put on my desk here next to the computer.
Oh! And a football!
Haven’t got a football since I was 11! I love it!

Going on the topic of what the AC characters sound like, here’s Morfnblorsh’s interpretation!

Waiterbot: I always pictured him having a deep voice with a strange Eastern-Europe type of accent. I kind of picture him sounding like Dr. Wily from that DREADFUL Megaman cartoon “A fight-ing robot, mega-man!”.

Mista Snowman: If you can imagine this, I always picture him sounding like a happy version of Strong Sad from the Homestar Runner site. Same “voice”, but happier tone.

Knacks: Norm Macdonald.

Kuse: I picture him just sounding like an average guy. And I tend to give him a plain yet charming Jim Halpert sort of quality.

Roboclown: I never actually heard words when he’d talk, I only heard the pleasant beeps of Helper from Venture Brothers.

Hssxxlllo: I guess my imagination has been tainted by other media, because I always just hear Bean Bunny’s voice when Hssxxlllo talks. Bean is an annoying character from the Muppets, in case you didn’t know.

Mare: I hear Meg from Family Guy when she talks.

Claire: This one is complicated. To understand the way I hear Claire, you would need to find an old Playstation, a copy of Twisted Metal 1, and select “Sweet Tooth” the Clown as your character. Take the laugh you will hear on doing this, and apply the way it sounds to speech. That’s how I hear Claire.

Hare: I hear her as Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.

Arcano: Tim Curry as the Devil from “Legend”.

Hey guys! My internet was out for Christmas, boo. I still need to finish reading the AC. But the good news is, I got a bunch of presents even though I was barely expecting any. Can’t wait for Fallout!

I can’t say I hear any specific voices for the AC characters – they do “sound” a certain way in my head but I dunno who I could compare them to so you guys would know who I’m talking about. I guess Knacks kinda sounds like what Stan from South Park would sound like as an adult.

Chestnuts roasted by jazzy @ 12/28/2009 1:55 PM

When everyone posts for the Fallout Thread is it appropriate to list Christmas gifts you bought for yourself? haha…you know, the ones you buy a week or so before Christmas and kinda feel bad about buying because it’s so close to Christmas so you kinda feel like you’re buying yourself a Christmas present?

Is there a limit to how many you list? Is it a free-for-all? Is there Fallout etiquette?

Chestnuts roasted by Church @ 12/28/2009 3:02 PM

Church: I’ve listed stuff I got for myself before XD If I counted it as part of my Christmas, it goes on the list. And people generally list everything they got, some people have really super long lists while some are shorter. Some people link to pictures or blog posts of their haul as well.

As for etiquette, I’d say the general site-wide rule of “don’t be an ass” still stands, but that’s about it :p

Chestnuts roasted by jazzy @ 12/28/2009 3:16 PM

Thanks Jazzy, I appreciate it!

The haul was really good this year and am looking forward to checking out some of the loot others picked up. Please let me know if I’m being an ass…haha.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I’m finally shaking off the cobwebs from three straight days of mirth. Fallout Thread later today. :)

Thanks for sniping my doppelganger’s post from yesterday, Matt. I’m still pretty shocked someone wanted to be me.

I can’t wait for the Fallout Thread. I’m curious to see what cool shit you guys got!

saw sherlock holmes…hmmm…8.5/10 Holmes reminded me of Dr. House if House was a detective…and what was all that homosexual ambiguity? That too is like House and his roomate Cuddy(think thats his name)
