YOU BEDDER WASH OOT.

Well, it's Christmas Eve! Officially! Plooky plockily! I still need to buy a few presents, I still need to shave for the first time since 1937, and I still need to stuff 50 mushrooms with breadcrumbs, garlic, oil and my top secret ingredient. I am not ready. But, I have lots of wine. And sake. And eggnog.

Thanks for spending another holiday season with X-E! The 2009 Advent Calendar is complete! This year's was a soul-sucking sacrifice to get done, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and I'm glad that when I'm seeing stars from the wine/sake/eggnog twelve hours from now, I'll be able to think of those stupid little characters having a merry Christmas instead of being eaten by crabs. Ironically, we'll have just finished eating crabs ourselves by then. Their legs, anyway.

Full disclosure: Really wish I would've had time to post more "normal" holiday stuff this season -- that's my one regret. Well, that and the fact that we were too busy and frantic to even get a Christmas Tree. And that I didn't use the foot of snow we got to build an ice fort. Yay, wine. I had to focus on the AC, because once that thing gets away from me, there's no catching up. Hopefully we can do some more "standard" celebrating between now and New Year's?

Your support is so appreciated -- thanks again for making this dinosaur of a site still worth mashing my hands on an ash-encrusted keyboard for after all these many years. Have a great holiday, and please use the comments to talk about your own Christmas celebrations -- the parties, the people, the traditions, and all of that shiny new plastic.

I've gotta go find a razor, scotch tape, and a department store that's still open. Below: Random happy pictures.

I'll see ya for the Fallout Thread -- have a good one!

Permit me one sentimental moment here:

Matt, Merry Christmas to you and yours and God bless. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this amazing website! It means a lot to me (and everyone else here, I’m sure).

Anyway, OH MY FREAKING GOD YOU GUYS.

Okay, so I came down to Fort Worth to spend a day with my friend, because her family can’t come for Christmas. I checked the weather forecast a few days ago to make sure everything was gonna be okay for the trip. All they forecasted was like a 30% chance of rain and possible sleet. Guess what happened. Massive snowstorm! Even here in Ft. Worth it’s snowy and icy. In Oklahoma? Whiteout conditions. So, I am kinda stuck here until the morning. And we almost spun out when going out for pizza.

Needless to say, Christmas 2009 has been an adventure, and it’s the first white Christmas in Oklahoma in probably 20 years! Wheeeee!

Matt, the Chia Pet looks to be one of the best ones you’ve ever had!

Tomorrow on Christmas Day everyone is coming over to our house unless we get the foot of snow forecast for our part of Kansas.

If that happens, I’ll have 24.35 lbs of turkey to split between the four of us and our Boston Terrier, Rudy. :-)

Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!

Here’s to a great 2010 for XE! Well done Matt!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I’m currently relaxing on Finger Lakes wine with 24 hours of A Christmas Story on in the background. I don’t know about other people, but my favorite part of Christmas is Christmas Eve, before any of the presents are opened. I love the anticipation, how everything basically shuts down for one night of the year, etc.

Sidenote: Who else besides me DVRd the Saved by the Bell Christmas on TBS this morning?

Let me join the throng in saying thank you and congratulations Matt.

Merry Christmas to all X-Eers!

I’m watching Spike’s Star Wars marathon and waiting to wake up my one-and-a-half year old and take her to midnight mass.

This will be my wife’s first year as a priest and so, even though we’ve been married several years, we’re making all new traditions.

I made cock-a-leekey soup for dinner between services. I finished posting my own Advent calendar. I then finished reading Matt’s AC.

It’s been a fast month.

Thanks to EVERYONE here at X-E.

See you for the fallout.

Merry Christmas, Everyone! It just isn’t Christmas for me unless I track Santa’s progress over at NORAD. As of typing, he’s currently heading for Puerto Rico.

Speaking of other Christmassy things, I’ve found that James Lipton has a fan page over at Facebook!

I’ve made my own AC-Inspired Christmas special over at my own blog. You can see it here: http://galileo908.blogspot.com/2009/12/very-dennis-christmas-special.html

And I have two recommendations for next year’s jukebox: First is “Must Be Santa Claus” by Bob Dylan from his new “Christmas in The Heart” album. It’s one of the most unintentionally hilarious Christmas albums I’ve ever listened to.

The other one is the Julian Casablancas (from The Strokes) cover of “I Wish it was Christmas Today,” that dumb little song that Horatio Sanz & Jimmy Fallon used to sing on SNL. It’s awesome and much better than the original.

Between the snow, the wonderful get-together I just had with my family in Cape May County, and Matt finishing the Advent Calender, all I can say is…this has been one heck of a holiday season. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a really, really good night.

Christmas story is sooooo freakin good it amazes me every year. We had christmas with the wife’s mom and sister tonight. Tomorrow has gotten out of hand however and we will be running around much more than I would have liked but thems the breaks.

Has anyone besides me bought those super cheap DVD sets of Christmas? I have a couple of them they will have a section of cartoons and a section of tv and some times some movies. I recommend them for everyone. The cartoons are awesome or awesomely bad and if you are like me the old timey TV shows are great. Now if you excuse me I have some Red Skelton and Jack Benny to watch.

Chestnuts roasted by thejyav @ 12/25/2009 12:24 AM

I didn’t even know you could stuff mushrooms.

Matt, thanks for sacrificing your soul to bring us the Advent Calendar. I’ve been reading for a few years now and it always makes me feel Christmassy when nothing else is working. I have to go finish reading it now!

Here’s my Christmas traditions. Those of my family who live in the southeast get together – Me, my four siblings, my parents, my aunt, my Poppop, and my Poppop’s lady friend who is like one of the family now, plus this year my sister’s fiance. We have Christmas Eve dinner, usually ziti, at my aunt’s house. This year we played Apples to Apples. Then Christmas morning we open presents and eat breakfast, graze on cookies and candy all day, and have ham for dinner.

Sometimes we have a gift exchange to go easy on those of us with more limited means – this year we did it between the five siblings + the fiance. We used to open those gifts on Christmas Eve, but one of my sisters decided to go to midnight service this year so we’re waiting until tomorrow.

There is often group crafting, at least among the sisters, while watching Christmas movies. Latchhook rugs, embroidery, tie blankets, etc. One sister and I spent three and a half hours wrapping presents (we do this for our parents) while watching Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (otherwise known as “the one with the mice and the clock”), and Muppet Family Christmas, on VHS with 1987 commercials.

There’s more, but it’s probably even more generic than what I already listed. Plus my dad just asked me to help bring the presents downstairs. I will miss the shiny pile in my room.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks for the wonderful AC this year! The final image on December 25th is currently the background on my PC! Thanks again Matt, have a wonderful Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I am excited about the fact that my favorite all time Christmas special is available on Google video, and they allow embedding! It’s the 1971 animated Christmas Carol. Most people reading this website are Christmas experts, so you will know it when you see it. I have embedded it on the Christmas page of my website.

Matt, thanks for all you do, the AC was AWESOME! And I can tell it was a lot of hard work.

MC everyone!

I must have missed it. What happened to the church raffle for Matt? Also I feel like we should all help out in some larger way next year. Matt not having a Christmas tree is unChrismasblous.

Wow! thanks, Bluejay! and thanks to you too, Matt, for all these years of christmas joy!

Merry Christmas Matt, and to everyone here at X-E!! As of tonight, my life is now complete. I opened a gift from my dad and lo and behold, I was given my very own LEG LAMP. Albeit, the 20 inch model, but I was surprised just the same!
