My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Christmas Night Lights, Magnets and Bumbles.

It was supposed to be so innocent -- a simple evening run to Toys "R" Us for batteries and a few other needed bits. The place was expectedly mobbed, but I managed to sneak in and out without a long wait, as the second I got on line, a bunch of registers opened up and speeded everything along. Most of the stuff that I needed was on sale, too. It was shaping up to be the most perfect little TRU run in holiday history, until my car exploded on the way home.

Actually, it was just a flat tire. A flat tire may be a minor nuisance for the planet at large, but it isn't for me. I can't change tires, and even if I could, my old donut tire wasn't even in the car. To further the drama, I'd left my cell phone at home.

Struggling to find the button to put on my hazard lights for the first time ever, I sat on the side of the road, waiting for a cop to come rescue me -- just like in the movies. Twenty minutes and a chewed tongue later, and I was still sitting there. Ultimately, I drove the thing home with a flat, clunking the whole way, assuredly twisting my front-right rim into a pretzel and increasing the cost of tomorrow's repair job tenfold.

That's the long way of saying: Today's AC entry will be up a bit late. :)

Tonight's SNT is brought to you by G&E's Color-Changing LED Night Light, snowman-themed. I love this thing. The crude animated GIF really doesn't sell the smoothness of the color-changing feature, where reds subtly morph to blues, and blues subtly morph to whites, and yadda yadda. Most electrical outlets have to spend the holiday season uglied by a dozen extension cords, but with this, your outlet becomes a decoration in itself.

Getting back to Toys "R" Us for a moment: It wasn't easy to navigate the store's aisles with so many stressed out shoppers present, but because Matt is dead and I'm actually a sentient mutant ferret who took his place years ago, I managed. Somewhere in those zips and dashes, I found Christmas magic...

This LEGO Holiday Magnet was a nice surprise, and not just because it's a tribute to the LEGO Santa who died on December 21st, 2007. It was also a nice surprise for at least, oh, thirty other reasons.

The lower base is the only truly magnet-related artifact in the set, and if it would've fit as nicely on the package, this would be more correctly titled a "LEGO Miniature Christmas Playset." You get Santa, a bare tree, a lantern, and what appears to be a toolbox filled with random, orphaned LEGO parts. Mainly I'm just happy that there's something more interesting on our fridge to look at than pictures of my distant cousins' kids now.

While there, I also picked up this small, musical Bumble snowglobe. I love Bumble, and I've failed at every opportunity to see something Bumble-related and not buy it.

A little button on the front activates the globe, sending the styrofoam snowballs spinning like mad while various, Rudolph-related songs blast at a surprisingly high volume. I gave the globe a test run at TRU, and was surprised to learn that it will play music for approximately 17 minutes even if you only press the button once. Not knowing how to turn it off at the time, I was forced to shop with my own personal musical score following me around.

In our collective travels with small, styrofoam snowballs, we've all learned that they're extremely static and adhesive. Hence, as they fly around Bumble's spherical abode, they have a nasty habit of getting stuck to his head. Maybe the snowglobe's makers made it this way to distract us from the unfathomable "BUMBLES" label above the activation button. Why did they pluralize? Clearly there is only one Bumble in this globe.

Off to work on the AC. If I'm lucky, red wine by 3 AM. Happy SNT!

Man o man. I started shopping before Thanksgiving and Im still picking up things here and there and am gonna be late mailing my presents to my family! Damn how do I always get behind??

Chestnuts roasted by citygirl @ 12/16/2009 2:32 AM

Matt HSSXXLLLO’s storyline with the video chat with Jet that has gay overtones hits so close to home. Even if it was your unique idea I will pretend you put that in there for me. That is how I talk to my gf everyday. If you add in him putting clothespins on his nipples while talking on the computer I think I will cry tears of joy.

I haven’t really posted any comments on here, sorry. I have been reading his blog articles and AC only. I am preoccupied with family things. This is my Granddad’s last Christmas, if he makes it that long. He has a stomach tube and can only drink milk and water. He has cancer that the doctor’s found in about April, it’s not too painful but it’s spread very quickly. I stayed for about a week after Thanksgiving, to sort through my things and put them into boxes so when he dies we can just go and pick up my things. He is an ahole sometimes but I am his favorite, we have always had a special relationship.

He gave me the day I left his prized jacket he has worn for many years. You know how your parents or Grandparents have the same jacket they wear forever? It was that one and he gave it to me. I will wear it with pride, knowing where it came from and the good memories. My Grandparents raised me, so it’s kind of like losing my Dad. He used to make me a breakfast from scratch every morning, even on Saturdays because he told me I couldn’t miss any Saturday morning cartoons and he would do it for me. He called me shorty when I was really little, then started calling me Sam. Don’t ask me why lol just did. And insisted I called him Sue. He has even wrote From Sue To Sam on Christmas presents. Our own special thing. He always took special care with me, extra patience. It’s hard to explain.

I went on hospital visits for a while because I wet the bed alot and we were trying to figure out why, and coming back from the doctors he felt bad for me so every time he bought a box of drumstick ice cream cones for me. That was a huge treat, I would of never got them otherwise. He would of never did that for my two sisters. I guess you could say I was spoiled. Taking me to the grocery store was a rare occurrence because my Grandma did the shopping but he always bought me a toy or candy. He asked me want I wanted instead of the usual begging.

That is enough. I think I am going to get a prelit artificial tree after Christmas on sale. I would only enjoy it for about 4 days anyway this year. Grandma wants me to go back on the 21st to set up a tree at their house. The kid in me doesn’t wanna the adult in me has to. I will try to make the most of it. This will probably be the last Christmas with a huge real tree at their house. I just came home now I have to go back… ugh :) I just miss my best friend Harry so much and my own home. I can only take being a guest in someone else’s home for a while, you know?

I didn’t say the stuff about my Granddad for a bunch of people to say they sympathize, just to say my piece. You don’t have to just to be polite. That was my little moment on here. I realize how many people post about relatives dying. That was my moment to.

Chestnuts roasted by Goob @ 12/16/2009 3:25 AM

Goob, believe me, I think anyone going through what you are right now deserves a chance to say their piece. I’m sure there’s a lot of genuine care and love going out to you right now from everyone here.

Chestnuts roasted by divechaz @ 12/16/2009 5:38 AM

Thats okay. Thank you for sharing with us. A very touching story. May Sue find eternal peace. Hang in there Goob. :o )

Well, I was coming here to say that I woke up early to find my neutered cat humping a blanket in the living room, and I wondered if he has a date with her every morning. Then I wondered if that might be inappropriate. I decided it was just the kind of thing you would tell us about, goob, so I’m leaving it up here.

Sorry about your grandfather, and I’m not just saying that because I feel obligated. I was my grandma’s favorite, and she died on New Year’s Day three or four years ago. She didn’t raise me, but she lived with us for several years before I was even ten years old. My sister and I keep her big winter coat at work for when it’s extra cold outside.

And so it begins. I awake this morning to find that the Advent Calendar is officially behind.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

The last thing I want this Christmas is another unfinished AC. I’m not trying to start shit or complain, but I have had a rough Christmas season this year, and I would be very unhappy if the advent calendar went the same way as last year.

I have the day off, so I will be checking the site constantly. Come on Matt, you can do it!!

Chestnuts roasted by Cakemaster @ 12/16/2009 7:35 AM

Check the last page of comments. He said it would be up this morning, since he was running behind.

Chestnuts roasted by Dann @ 12/16/2009 9:29 AM

It’s a merry Christmas to all of ye. Well, not until next week, but you get the picture. Today’s my birthday and I think I’m getting old now. 26 is the new 1000. But I plan to have a merry run of mayhem today to celebrate!

Chestnuts roasted by Mike83 @ 12/16/2009 9:52 AM

Goob, you have my deepest sympathies. As it happens, yesterday was the 15th anniversary of losing my grandfather. That wasn’t fun and it was sudden. I can’t even imagine what you are going through. I will say a prayer for your family.

In other news, my tree that I was so happy about going home to water yesterday? Abruptly stopped drinking last night. Now I’m freaking out like a parent that just found out something is wrong with their child. “What could I have done differently?” and all that. I opened some fresh cuts around the trunk, but if that doesn’t work I may have to take it down and perform emergency surgery. Luckily it isn’t decorated yet so that is still an option, but I’m really not looking forward to doing that. It would be a big hassle.

Bah. Here’s hoping for some AC awesomeness soon to take my mind off of it.

Goob
Hang in there…I know what you’re going through. And I think you’re more than entitled to have “a moment.” We’re like a big family here (at least I think so) and sharing those moments is what makes this place unique.

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 12/16/2009 11:13 AM

Goob: You have my sympathies. We are currently going through a similar situation with my great-grandma. She’s 98 and is currently been in and out of the hospital for the past 3 months with various infections and the like.

Bill – This is of course waaaay off topic, but did you finally break things off with that toxic lady of yours?

Chestnuts roasted by tanta07 @ 12/16/2009 11:40 AM

Mike 83 I know where you’re coming from. My husbamd turned 30 last month and I’ll do the same in April. We’re thinking of going to an indoor waterpark to celebrate. If I have to turn into an old lady I at least want to do it somewhere fun.

Chestnuts roasted by ericnrosesmom @ 12/16/2009 1:50 PM

Goob, I am so sorry. I know how close you are with your Grandparents. Sent good vibes your way.

Tanta, I did. Of course she realized that a guy with a good job that pays for everything was a pretty sweet ride so she still calls all the time and texts more than necessary. ugh…

Holy shit!!! Just found out Flick from the Christmas Story was a porn star in the 90′s. I don’t think he ever got over pole licking.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/16/2009 2:04 PM

You should see Flick’s girlfriend in real life. Also looks like a porn star, a not very attractive porn star. He was also a complete ass to me when I met him!

Chestnuts roasted by Jaclyn @ 12/16/2009 2:15 PM

So sorry to hear about what is happening with your grandfather, Goob

Chestnuts roasted by Tresjolie9 @ 12/16/2009 2:18 PM

Ha! I can imagine Jaclyn. He looks like if he sat next to you on a flight, you would reread the Delta Skymall catalog the entire time just to keep from any sort of conversation.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/16/2009 2:23 PM

Goob Hang in there. Easier said than done, but try to.

This Christmas season, and year as a matter of fact, is whizzing by….

Is the Playmobile calendar suddenly going to appear at the end in a horrific battle?

Chestnuts roasted by Bellosh @ 12/16/2009 4:25 PM

Welcome back, Goob! I’ve noticed your absence, but whenever I see a wall of text pop up, I know you’re back. :) I’m sorry to hear about your grandfather. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Happy birthday, Mike83!

Chestnuts roasted by Teddy Ray @ 12/16/2009 5:17 PM

Just popping in to say I hope everyone’s having a good pre-Christmas. Goob, you’re in my thoughts.

Amy, my neutered male cat has a morning ritual of taking whatever shirt I wore the day before and left lying on the floor, dragging it into our living room, humping it and screaming kitty bloody murder. It is equal parts disturbing and fascinating.

I am now off to perform an experiment. What is the martini threshold for still performing productive Christmas shopping? I will discover the answer tonight. For science.

I just heard that Roy Disney died today. http://bit.ly/6iVToy
This year officially sucks.

Chestnuts roasted by Berdo @ 12/16/2009 6:34 PM

Yeah, I think as far as the actual company goes that does it for an actual Disney being affiliated. Sad, wonder if Michael Eisner needs a job…

Sorry for your loss, Goob!

AC update: Working on the 15th now. Good ones a’comin. PS, the entry for the 15th will be the result of 329 raw photos taken. You can see why these take time. :)
