Hi guys -- just dropping in quickly to scream HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Literally. Picture me screaming it. As you can see, the blog has been redressed for the holidays. As soon as the smoke settles and I sleep off the wine, it'll be time for the reddest, greenest celebration on the entire virtual planet.

Has anybody tried the Eggnog pancakes from IHOP? I got them on Thanksgiving morning and I rather enjoyed them. Not too strong, but just enough noggy goodness for them to feel seasonal. And feeling seasonal is all that really matters.

Nothing like waking up on the couch in the middle of the night and seeing the Christmas tree all lit up. And not knocked over by the dog or cat, for that matter.

It just occurred to me that the Tom and Jerry I have every Thanksgiving morning is basically hot egg nog. But thinned out with hot water, so maybe the thickness IS the problem. Still a lot of egg…

Mint chocolate milk sounds great.

there’s this guy on youtube, he’s using Matt’s thanksgiving videos without giving him credit. At the beginning of each is the x – e logo, but nothing about saying the videos belong to Matt and not him.

He’s a weird little fella this kid

Thanks for the eggnog advice. I haven’t ever seen that Good Eats episode and it will definitely be helpful!

Ok sorry for the 2x post but I just saw something GREAT! Maybe I haven’t been paying attention and these have been back for years but if so I certainly haven’t seen them. I just saw a Snuggle fabric softener commercial with an honest to goodness Snuggle Bear PUPPET just like the old days! Again, not sure if this is new but last time I checked he was still CGI.

I love eggnog. I would try flavored eggnog, but I don’t see the need. Eggnog is fine the way it is. I want to try those eggnog pancakes, but haven’t had a chance to.

I got pumpkin spice Silk milk today @ Target. It’s not bad…like pumpkin pie dunked in milk. I’m mildly lactose intolerant, so I wanted to venture into soy milk

Chestnuts roasted by mandy_Reeves @ 11/29/2009 4:45 PM

Oh shit, I forgot all about soy nog! I love the hell out of that stuff! Probably because it’s less thick/rich than real eggnog.

Tree #1 is decorated, and miraculously my kitten is leaving it alone so far – she was jumping all through it when it was bare. Maybe she’s afraid of Santa giving her the smackdown come stocking time. (Am I the only one who does pet stockings? Is that weird?) Tree #2 goes up in a few days, along with shiny garland and random Santa figurines strewn all over the house. I’m not an 80-year-old woman, I just play one on TV.

Chestnuts roasted by jazzy @ 11/29/2009 5:07 PM

I had enough trouble with one tree, and now half of one string of lights has gone out already. I’m ignoring it for now.

Chestnuts roasted by Amy @ 11/29/2009 10:24 PM

I don’t know why people here don’t like it, but I love thick eggnog. To me there’s nothing better than nog that’s thick like a milkshake. I bought a quart of Southern Comfort nog for Thanksgiving and it’s all gone. Very tasty and I will be purchasing more.

OK, latest update:
(For the record)
Buying the Wii: Mrs. Terror Claws
Buying the Wii Fit: Mrs. Terror Claws
Buying Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga: Mrs. Terror Claws
So, she pretty much spends our gaming dollars.

I enjoy video games, but the last purchase I made was to buy a Neo Geo pocket just to play super accurate Pac Man on. In retrospect, I was a fool to part with that system. I spent like $100 to ONLY play Pac-Man. Totally worth it.

Ahem! Back the point. Anyway, we throw this MASSIVE party at my house for the game (Bedlam) and I’m listening to the talk around Wii Sports Resort (my BIL’s game). When Mario is mentioned, my wife says “I totally want that game so much!” So I was like: bingo!

So, today I bought EVERY present from Amazon except NSMBW from Buy.com. BTW – it’s worth mentioning that she doesn’t think we have the money for presents for each other, I hocked most of the G.I. Joe collection to get presents for everyone else. It makes me pumped that she’ll get up Christmas morning to seemingly nothing, but I’ll have the attract screen for SMB going.

Christmas sweetness.

Oh crap. I broke the margins. Sorry.

Chestnuts roasted by Terror Claws @ 11/29/2009 10:49 PM

Got the main tree up and decorated last night. Got the crap tree up and we are thinking of adding a 3rd tree (good grief).
EXPLANATION: Main tree is the flagship tree (duh). The little crap tree was originally for me and Mrs. Manimal’s crap decorations from our childhood (homemade whatnot, LIFESAVER 1991 ornament, etc).
Also, the main tree has clear lights and the crap tree has multi-colored (let the debate rage on).
HOWEVER, our growing family has (possibly) created the necessity for a 3rd tree for the E. Claire, Allie, and as yet un-named son (I did mention that it was a boy didn’t I?) stuff.
Any ideas?

P.S. Amy, I too have the John Denver and Muppets on vinyl and CD and the special taped off the Disney Channel but the quality is worse than a workprint of METROPOLIS.

Chestnuts roasted by The Manimal @ 11/29/2009 10:52 PM

Got the little decorations up around the house and put the mini-tree up. Like Manimal above, I have a small personal one that I put the yearly ‘cool decade’ Hallmark ormanents on. I’ll wait for the big tree until another few weeks since I forget to water them, and I don’t want the fire hazard I always create being around too long.

I’ve put up the Christmas village, and all the residents are happy to be out of the boxes. Any other village collectors here? I have Lemax’s Heartland Valley Village, with about 20 houses and a population of 64 people.

Chestnuts roasted by PlantMonster @ 11/29/2009 11:30 PM

Manimal: I have a similar tree setup; a “nice” tree in the living room and a second, crap tree. Except it’s slightly backwards, in that the handmade and plastic stuff goes on the “nice” tree and the fancy glass ornaments go on the crap one. It’s the trees themselves that are nice (giant, 7.5ft tree with all the branches) and crap (tree that has been in my family since the late 60s or early 70s, and has reached Charlie Brown levels of shagginess.) This is just because the cats will get all up in the nice tree, whereas the crap tree is in my room where they can’t wreck it.

Speaking of Charlie Brown, I just went to Wikipedia to see how long artificial trees have been around, and hit this gem: “Aluminum trees were manufactured into the 1970s, and had their height of popularity from their inception until about 1965. That year A Charlie Brown Christmas aired for the first time, and its negative portrayal of aluminum Christmas trees is credited for a subsequent decline in sales.”

Charlie Brown killed the aluminum tree!

Chestnuts roasted by jazzy @ 11/29/2009 11:43 PM

Manimal I wish we could do more than 1 tree but our house is kind of small. I would love to do one of thos gorgeous trees you see in stores where everything has the same theme or color scheme, but I have tons of ornaments that are sentimentally valuable but don’t match each other. Maybe someday if we ever move I can have both.

Chestnuts roasted by ericnrosesmom @ 11/29/2009 11:44 PM

I got my tree up. The ornaments will have to on tomorrow, but I did get the tree up tonight. Not bad considering I got in at 7:30.

I helped my Dad get their tree up. It’s a flocked artificial tree. I hate the damn thing–oh, it’s fine, once it is up. But setting it up, that damn foam “snow” gets EVERYWHERE. And I do mean EVERYWHERE. It’s just not worth it!

Damnit Roughriders!

Well, time to start waiting for baseball season, though that’ll probably suck too.

And just so I don’t seem completely irrelevant, we put up the tree a couple weeks ago. Different, I guess.

And Terror Claws, damn on seliing the Joes. Good on you though, thats deep.

Well, back to burying my sorrows in Collective Soul and Psych homework.

Not an eggnog fan myself (I know, shame), but IHOP’s gingerbread pancakes are all kinds of awesome.

Found the ABC Family “25 Days of Christmas” in my Entertainment Weekly today. A lot of meh, but a few highlights like Mickey’s Christmas Carol and such. Don’t mind seeing their broadcast of the Pixar short films either (as not Christmas at all as that is).

Chestnuts roasted by Andy @ 11/30/2009 1:51 AM

Love eggnog, already bought some of the Hood Sugar Cookie flavored stuff. However, I really want to cut back this holiday season, so if I decide to get anything more it will be the soy silk, a bit healthier, and somewhat less of a guilty pleasure.
