Went to the mall yesterday with my friend…it was a madhouse and it’s not even December yet. I’d better hurry up and do what little shopping I need to do so I don’t have to deal with it later. Also I still think Christmas should fuck off until after Thanksgiving.
Speaking of books, anyone here read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett? It’s pretty hilarious as it is, but it makes a lot more sense if you’ve seen The Omen.
“I saw some stuff on TV about the game and would love to play it but I don’t have a Wii. I just can’t get interested in the whole Wii-mote thing and have always been more of a PS3 guy. I think even if I had one, I’d be more interested in playing everything with the old-school controller rather than pointing and waving stuff around.”
You play it with the d-pad,just like Smash and Punch-Out.

Annette: Yeah, I have, and I agree. It is hilarious. I think all the additional Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the funniest part.
Kid Nicky: Yeah, I know. I just don’t see myself buying a whole system just for the handful of games that are designed only for the d-pad. Of course, it is pretty cheap these days, so maybe I’ll break down and get it. In the meantime, the PS3 is pretty groovy.
Dick Tracy is playing on Sleuth right now. I have not seen this movie since the theater, as far as I know. Why on earth I went to see or what I thought about this acid trip, I could not say. It’s got typography design like a Wes Anderson movie and Pacino is doing choreography. Wow.
Deej, you haven’t heard about I <3 U, NY because it's just one of those indies with 7,000 celebrities in it. It was originally supposed to get a release in the spring, but I have a theory it got pushed to try to get a boost from/not complete with Transformers/The Hangover. Christina's appearance it not far from a blink and you'll miss it, but Natalie Portman stars in one of the vignettes in addition to directing another one, and she is typically great.

Did someone say PS3? <3333

What’s with all the PS3 love? I’ll admit, it is an awesome Blu-ray player, but Xbox Live blows it all away. I knew Microsoft was onto something the first day I accessed their online Xbox service.
I think Sony has a better machine but they did a shit job marketing their machine as a multiplayer platform. Too bad because from what I have seen the PS3 is a much better console.

Really couldn’t give two shits about multiplayer. I had fun co-oping in RE5, but I prefer to play it alone, in all honesty. Always been a solitary gamer, probably always will be.
Protection from RROD is pretty great, too

The Xbox 360 is such a poorly designed machine it’s almost insulting. I like many of the games, but Microsoft used such cheap parts in that pile of crap it’s outrageous the price they sell it for. The PS3, from what I gather, is much a better put together console.
Oh well, buy cheap, buy twice . . .
I do agree though that Xbox Live is hands down the best multiplayer service for a console.

Ok ok I’ll admit, the PS3 was better designed than the Xbox. I did have the red ring of death once, but I only payed $13 for shipping to get it replaced for free. And the newer models do not malfunction as frequent.
However, I’ve played games such as Call of Duty 4 on both systems and did not see that much of a difference. In my humble opinion, I really think Xbox’s online service is what put the 360 over the PS3…not marketing.
But you essentially pay $13 for them to fix a machine that malfunctioned due to poor hardware. My brother sent his in twice, then they gave him a new one the 3rd time, and he has had to send that one in again recently. That’s like $60 in shipping at the end of the day!

Yeah, the PS3 is much better designed than the Xbox. I also want to make it known that I am NOT a fanboy for either Microsoft or Sony, just a candid observation I’ve noticed after years of indulging in both occasionally.
I’ve never really used a PC as a gaming machine because I don’t play games enough, but I have a few friends that really enjoy gaming and use their PC – and let me tell you . . . a good PC blows both of those consoles out of the water . . .
That said, I’m currently playing Modern Warfare 2 on my 360! If any X-E people also play, let me know and I’ll blow your face off with my SCAR in Domination.

I’m pretty happy with the PS3 even though there aren’t a lot of titles out that I want to play on it. To be fair, there aren’t any titles out that I want to play on the 360 or the Wii, either. (Well, the Wii has one or two but not enough to justify buying one.) As a matter of fact, the only console that consistently has titles I’m interested in is the DS.
PC games are so totally different than console games, but in a good way. The consoles can’t get certain games right, like The Sims, RTS, or Tycoon games (or maybe they don’t want to). One of my favorite PC games of all time is Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. I had that game for several years and I still play that game. Sometimes a keyboard and mouse just works better.
BTW, I also just started a blog and I am in the process of adding other X-E blogs on my links. Please add me too.
I also find a keyboard and mouse works far better for the FPS genre also. If I had the inclination and extra $2,000 dollars I might consider building a computer to play FPS games.
They’re my favorite genre, but console controllers are so clumsy and ungainly . .

Am I the only person here who has never owned a gaming console outside of a computer?
Chestnuts roasted by PlantMonster @ 11/16/2009 12:47 AM
Where are the rest of the Venture Bros fans here? Did anyone else just see the new episode? Awesome. We even got to see more of the ORB story!
Now for my own video-game-related question: Am I the only one that’s becoming less and less interested in games as I get older? It’s kind of a tough place to be in because I used to LOVE games and my husband still loves them to death. Any suggestions as to how to rekindle the gaming love?
Personally I haven’t ever actually bought a console and the last thing I played regularly was a 64. I have become less and less interested in games due to their increasingly brutal nature. There is nothing fun to me about games like Modern Warfare where the object is to blow people’s heads off. It’s a good thing though because in my free time I just hang with my wife instead of the TV which she appreciates!

I’ve noticed that I can still play video games, but games that require a huge investment of time like the new Final Fantasy games(although they are great) I just can’t play anymore.
Mainly I play sports, and action games, but some light RPGs are good as well.
Recently I played this awesome freeware game called Cave Story, and I kid you not, that’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. I really got into that game.
Annette – Good Omens is one of my favorite books of all time. I bought it when I was a freshman in college because I liked the cover, and it set off a whole obsession with all things Gaiman and Pratchett.
I always figured the movie Dogma was kind of a ripoff of Good Omens somehow.
While I do enjoy games like Modern Warfare, I must agree with you Drew.
I don’t play games so much anymore for two reasons: I’m busier as I get older and they aren’t as fun . . .
I think the loss in fun factor is what you pointed out: many of them are pretty fucking brutal these days.
I miss the old SNES days of Super Mario World and fun, innocuous entertainment like that.

I never got into RPG’s. They take WAY too much time to complete. I did enjoy the 2 original Zelda Games (I maintain the Zelda II for the NES is the hardest of the Zelda games), Zelda 64, Lufia II, and the original Pokemon. I just can’t justify playing a game by myself for hours when I could be with friends. I don’t have that much free time!
