I, for one, am all for a compact advent. Many times I feel as though I cannot catch up if I miss a day being as they are often long. Though, I always do end up catching up regardless of the depth of the plot :)

drew do: We generally spread our Christmas movie viewings throughout the month of December. Here are some of our “Must Watches”:

Christmas Vacation, How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the Chuck Jones animated classic, not that live action atrocity), the Garfield Christmas special, that one Muppets special where they visit Fozzie’s mom, Ernest Saves Christmas (DON’T YOU JUDGE ME), Mixed Nuts, Home Alone, Will Vinton’s Claymation Christmas

Oh, and A Christmas Story, DUH. -slaps forehead-

Hey guys. I’m the one that posted a few days ago about my mom being very sick and having the grim prognosis. Well, just wanted to let those of you know that were wishing me well, that she passed away early this morning. I don’t want it to be a pity party – I just wanted to give a little update, and thank you guys. <3

Ryane -

I’m so sorry. I wish there was some kind of internet emoticon that would communicate my empathy for you. Losing a parent is tough, I went through it. God be with you in your tough time this Christmas.

Hey Matt,
An idea for you: Start the AC a week early. Do one a day, ready to post and then save it back. By the time the crazy times of the last week of Christmas comes around, you’ll have the last bit in the can with no crazy rush. I know the last minute thing is fun, but it leads to some meltdown.

Chestnuts roasted by Terror Claws @ 11/12/2009 11:21 PM

Must watches: “Scrooge” with Albert Finney. Christmas doesn’t really start until I see that film.

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 11/12/2009 11:23 PM

Ryane No pity party, but my prayers and thoughts are with you. Hang in there.

Matt While I do love the story that has been crafted over the years with the AC, if it’s gotten to be too much, then do what you need to make it managable. I do enjoy the box 23 mystery and all the craziness that goes along with the stories.

I always wondered how you were able to handle doing the AC and all the other responsibilities you no doubt have.

Whatever happens this year, we’ll be here. X-E has become a holiday tradition for me. As much as Rudolph, Frosty and Bing have been all my life.

I’m not going through 280+ posts to see if it’s been mentioned, but yeah. I am gleefully stealing this from another website: With the Christmas shopping season nearly upon us, Toys“R”Us and LEGO are celebrating the holidays by offering an incredible value to customers visiting Toys“R”Us stores nationwide – a collectible LEGO minifigure keychain that embodies the Christmas spirit. On Sunday, November 15 and Saturday, November 21, customers visiting any Toys“R”Us store will receive a complimentary LEGO version of the jolliest of holiday souls, Santa Claus, to help bring in the yuletide cheer, while supplies last.

Additionally, those who visit Toys“R”Us online at Toysrus.com will also have a chance to receive their complimentary LEGO Santa minifigure keychain with the purchase of select items. With nearly 13,000 eligible items to choose from, customers will find Santa riding along in enough packages to make it around the world and back.

And, since Santa always gives gifts to all the good boys and girls, he has a special surprise in his sack – a coupon worth $5 off any LEGO purchase of $20 or more (excluding LEGO video games).

Looking at all the nice toys that the keychain comes free with, nah.

Debating whether it would be worth it to get up and get one for free on a Saturday morning, or just shell out $4.99 for one? Just picking one up and paying is getting tempting.

Chestnuts roasted by citygirl @ 11/13/2009 2:20 AM

Damn that was NOT supposed to be a smiley face. Seriously. Sorry for your loss.

Chestnuts roasted by citygirl @ 11/13/2009 2:21 AM

Yes, well, I wish you all the best with what you’re dealing with Ryane.

I don’t pray, so I won’t pray for you . . . however, good luck in the next few months.

They will pass, even if it seems they won’t . . .

Matt should get a twitter..at least we’ll know if he’s still alive at times or not.

Chestnuts roasted by frankentine @ 11/13/2009 7:36 AM

No Twitter!I am so sick of hearing about that crap.I don’t own a cell phone anymore, and even if I did,no damn Twitter.Seems nowadays everyone is living on their cell phones.Sometimes I wish it would go back to the good ol’ days, when people would actually do something that meant something.I love X-E and all,but the internet and cell phones have ruined alot of things, especially the holidays. I mean, what the hell do 12 year olds need cell phones for? It’s ridiculous!OK.I feel better now.

Matt, I’ll add to the group that’s saying we wouldn’t mind if you tone the advent calender back. Not that I don’t appreciate the elaborate ACs of the past, but I’d much rather it be fun for you instead of a chore. Heck, I wouldn’t mind going back to the original style of just using the calendar itself as the backdrop. Or maybe toning it way back and doing another “advert” calendar.
