@Shawn
If I remember correctly, Mighty Joe Young was part of that ape marathon. I remember it as well. I think I remember because when I was a kid, I heard the announcer say “Mighty Joe Young,” but I misheard him and asked if he said “Maricon,” instead of Mighty Joe. Maricon is a spanish derogatory curse word for Homosexual. Needless to say, I got smacked for using that bad word.
A Thanksgiving tradition is to record “March of the Wooden Soldiers” since it’s usually on during the parade, and then watching it after. Those boogeymen sure had some weird-shaped backs.
Teddy Ray- if you havent read his short stories, do it, do it NOW!!! And when you read The Mist you can agree with me that the movie indeed sucked and missed the creepiness of a short story.
Rev- I Thought Cell was very good and when I saw M. Night’s The Happening, I coulda swore he stole it from that book. But at least with King it wasnt just the wind, and neurotoxins from trees, but a whole complex story.
In conclusion, The Dark Tower. Best series. EVER. Tell me you didnt cry like a little girl when right before Oy dies he says “oland.” Come on!
Chestnuts roasted by citygirl @ 11/12/2009 1:36 AM
Sorry for the double post but now that I have gotten onto the subject of Dark Tower, I cant stop!
I also just wanted to add that it is the only series, if not book, ( and I have read a lot of books in my time) that begins and ends with the exact same line! Pretty cool.
Also I have been dying to ask someone who has actually FINISHED reading the book, and not at the part he gives you a chance to finish at. I had a friend that did that. How can you read 7 huge books about getting to see what is in the Dark Tower and then just stop right before you find out??? So if you know the ending, what did you think? Im still not sure how I feel about it. Boy what a journey though. )
-Go then, there are other worlds than these.

MISTAH SNOWMANNNN!
Not at all Nicole…I just realized it said “Holly Shit” too. And to spare you all the cognitive explanations, it really is completely normal.

Heh. A close-up of Mista Snowman always means something MAGICAL is around the corner. ;O)

@Orybloodmyre: Interesting E-Bay store. Hmm, well, if you want to get Cap’n Crunch, and there is obviuosly limited space in the shipment, I would go for the Cap’n Crunch with Crunchberries. It’s a combination of regular Cap’n Crunch squares, and round AWESOME strawberry-ish balls. In a strange way, this version became the premiere “face” of the Cap’n Crunch collection since it was so popular. Now you will see the Peanut Butter Crunch. Awesome cereal as well, but a totally different animal. They seem to use a ton of peanut butter, and even though it still has a really good crunch, inside the inner bag, the cereal has a somewhat appealing oily essence to it (peanut oil!).
What other types of food are you interested in? let us know, and we can tell you if it’s really popular over here, or if the E-Bay store is just trying to sell some cast-off American brands.
I’m checking these prices; man! I ought to get an E-Bay store like this! The pound/dollar rate is $1.66 for 1 pound sterling. So a box of Cap’n Crunch is going for just over $12.00! I guess the guy has to go through the hassle of customs and pay the duty and all that.

@Orybloodmyre: Some of these things are regional in the U.S. Go to the “Rubs, Blends and Dressings”. You have GOT to get a can of the Old Bay seasoning. It’s been made in Baltimore, MD for years, and everyone from southern Pennsylvania to Virginia Beach has a can of it in their kitchen. If you ever go to the beach in the U.S. in Maryland or Delaware, and you walk down the boardwalk, the smell of crabs and shrimp steaming with Old Bay is as much a part of the scene as the salty air!

Orybloodmyre- Don’t get the blackened seasoning; no one I know eats that. The regular 6 oz can is the one!

Yay! Thanksgiving soon! Need to decide on the menu for me and the man of the house. (The dogs and the rats will be happy with whatever left overs they get!)
Hoping for 1 good X-E Thanksgiving article- although it must be hard finding old Thanksgiving stuff to write about! Love the new look on the site!

Shawn,
That was a really nice sentiment, thanks for sharing. I have sort of the same association with TV and the Holidays. Thanksgiving always reminds me of the old Mystery Science Theater 3000 Turkey Day Marathons. So I tend to make sure I watch at least one MST3K DVD on that day.

Berdo-I agree.I always remember watching March of the Wooden Soldiers.I haven’t watched it since my dad passed away though. He was a huge Laurel and Hardy fan(along with The 3 Stooges and Abbott & Costello[or as he would say Abbott and Carstella]).And correct me if I’m wrong ,weren’t they called “bogeymen”?Wow,perfect autumn day.Crispy frosty ground, cold air and not a single leaf left on any of the trees.
One of the few negatives about this time of year is that the ultra-cheesy ads from Kay Jewelers have started.
You know the ones. The doofy husband does something extremely lame…errr, I mean, “romantic,” gives his wife a big piece of jewelry, and she swoons, and the ad ends with “Every kiss begins with Kay.” ::vomit:: And they show them about every 12 seconds this time of year.
My wife loves jewelry, and even she rolls her eyes at those ridiculous ads. ’tis the season, I guess.

Every Thanksgiving our whole family eats and then piles into comfy clothes to watch Christmas Vacation.

tanta07: If I waited on a man to give me jewelry before I kissed him, I’d never get kissed:P

In Oklahoma, it ain’t Christmas until the BC Clark commercials start running. XD
Also jewelery pisses me off. Must be nice to have thousands of dollars to blow on a little piece of metal. If my husband bought me a diamond, I’d probably be happy and a little appalled at the same time, ahaha. Until the day comes when we can spare $1000+ on a ring without going into more debt, I’m happy with my $20 cubic zirconia Walmart ring.

So we’re going to have a cubicle decorating contest at work for Christmas. Here is my plan thus far:
• make a Charlie Brown tree (take two planks, drill a hole in the center, stick in a branch- how hard can it be?)
• make a large cut-out of Chuck and Snoopy (I’ve already drawn them in Adobe Illustrator. All I have to do is get it printed large format, affix them to some foam backing and cut around them)
• cover one side of the cube with lights (preferably the older style with the fat bulbs) and the other with “snow” (aka pillow stuffing)
• play the Christmas special soundtrack to add ambiance

tanta07, I rant about the Kay commercials. The one I hate the most is the one where the woman’s deaf and the dude says “Sorry my signing isn’t so good, but here’s a diamond”. It takes the cliche of “Hey, I don’t communicate with you, but here’s a diamond instead” to a whole new level.
Luckily, Mr. V-lo and myself are poor. So we just buy each other video games for Christmas. That way, we have a legitimate distraction from communicating with each other.

Cheetara, if you have the room/time/resources, I would suggest a Linus figure in front of a mic stand with people like Frosty, Rudolph, the Grinch, etc. “listening” to him. Matter of fact that sounds so good I may steal it for my own cube.
Anybody notice that at the home page, at the bottom, there are three links for the “About” page? Hehe..

Decorating a cubicle is a fool’s errand. It is impossible to make those things any less depressing than they are.
I don’t know how about you guys, but I am finished with fall already this year and anxiously awaiting Christmas.
Chestnuts roasted by wroclawski @ 11/12/2009 12:57 PM
Cheetara- blinking colored lights and free candy canes!
drew do- What do you mean, make the season a little better? The AC is one of the season highlights!
Chestnuts roasted by PlantMonster @ 11/12/2009 1:00 PM
Rhino: Eh, that’s just a smidge more effort than I’m willing to put into it.
wroclawski: It’s not really for the sake of making it less depressing, but more for the sake of winning an extra day off around Christmas. Plus I’m the artsy-fartsy type, so I just think it will be fun.
