Ugh, I don’t want it to be Christmas yet. Wanna know when I finally got into the Halloween Spirit? 10pm, October 31st.

i wish i HAD gotten into the halloween spirit. i dislike christmas actually which is ironic since i work at christmas tree shops.

Oddly, I know what you mean. I have no distinct want for more Halloween HALLOWEEN, but, it still feels nice and autumny out, and I’ve been sticking with the scary movies.

That’s why the Thanksgiving season is nice — it’s 1/2 Hallo, 1/2 X-Mas.

Shall I make my first disparaging remark about Christmas, or wait? ;)

Ghosted by Neg @ 11/05/2009 11:58 PM EST

Neg Nog.

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/06/2009 12:01 AM EST

Someone at Shrine said that last year, too…

Or was it here? I can’t tell anymore.

Ghosted by Neg @ 11/06/2009 12:02 AM EST

I’d be upset if I didn’t coin that. :(

So PUMPED about Christmas! Bring it on!

By the way, does anyone have a Kindle? If so, do you like it?

Ghosted by Church @ 11/06/2009 12:19 AM EST

I’m not looking forward to Magic 98.3’s annual six-week-long 24/7 Christmas music marathon. That’s the only station we receive at my job, though, and we’re forced to listen to it.

NO CHRISTMAS UNTIL AFTER THANKSGIVING.

That’s my Hardcore rule. Until then, let’s celebrate fall and get ready to stuff ourselves after watching silly commercialized parades.

Just watched V for Vendetta. Happy Guy Fawkes Day. AND Happy Back to the Future Day!

Anyone else surprised at the variety of egg nog flavors this year? I saw 5 by Hood’s Dairy this year, and chose Sugar Cookie Egg Nog. Wow, it’s good.

You can always split the seasons by watching Jack Frost. Nothing says both Halloween and Christmas like a homicidal snowman!

Jotenks

The movie you’re looking for there is the Nightmare Before Christmas. :D

And now begins my avoidance of this site until after Thanksgiving. It’s bad enough that I have to deal with Christmas stuff in every store I go to. No holiday deserves more than a month.

Ghosted by Hazzard @ 11/06/2009 2:00 AM EST

Nope, not Christmas yet. Still got to get past Thanksgiving first. However, as I’m only 16, I can get in the Christmas spirit in no time flat. Also, kind of a help too some old X-E blog entries. Spellcheck is now telling me that blog and spellcheck are not real words. Ah, who asked it. Anyway, I’ve only read the blog entries that were written either before or on Thanksgiving. Now I’m all hyped up for the parade, food, family, and maybe football. Even though we are having dinner criminally early at… hm… meeting up at 11 am… I’m not getting there till after 12 (I ain’t missing the parade for no one)… and it ends at 4… so somewhere in there. I’m bringing home extra to have a more appropriate timed dinner. Ah, can’t wait too see decorations around my ‘hood. However, some people put them up as early as before Halloween. Someone needs to lock them up right now.

I already have Target’s “Christmas Tree” and “Baked Goods” candles. I love Christmas candles.

Ghosted by Jeff Mack @ 11/06/2009 2:39 AM EST

Jeff= Here’s some advice, buy an mp3 player, and fill it with your favorite none Christmas songs. Like you, I can’t stand hearing those Holiday songs for more than an hour.

Camero T= I agree with you there. Whoah, it was Guy Fawkes Day? I was so into honoring the invention of Time Travel. I want Thanksgiving first. I want a turkey leg. Haven’t had one since Disney World last December. I remember last Thanksgiving. We were watching the parade. And we, and the rest of the continent got Rick Rolled.

Ghosted by Lonestar76 @ 11/06/2009 2:48 AM EST

Please spare a moment for those of us that dont have Thanksgiving and have to fill the six or seven weeks dreaming about 1) the two weeks vacation stored up for christmas and 2) my anally retentive clockwatching boss going off to have a baby and giving us the better part of a year without her anal retentedness.

Spared that thought?

I thank you.

Alright Christmas time is here. Bring on the Frostys,Santys, Rudolphs and whatever else you can throw.
Matt: Are you gonna start this years Advent Calendar by revealing the ending to last years story?

Hey Matt,

Let me ask you this now, before we are in the thick of the Christmas blogging. Unlike Charlie Brown, we don’t see much, or anything about the Rudolph Christmas special on the site here. Is it that you just never got into Rudolph? Never had that “fambly moment” with Rudolph to make it a standout?

Just curious, thanks!

I am PUMPED for Christmas. Granted, working at theme parks as Christmas trees and massive light displays pop up will do that to you.

I hope Wal-Mart’s Christmas selection is more interesting than Halloween. A Wally World Halloween just seemed so… generic this year. It all just seemed like a big orange blob, nothing stood out. All of the packaging was alike. Bleh.

I’m impressed by Target’s so far, but moreso by the $60 I spent on 75% off clearance Halloween stuff today. Candy candy candy! Diabetes by 35!

Ghosted by Andy @ 11/06/2009 6:41 AM EST

After the weekend’s trauma I am ready to deep six Halloween and jump straight into Christmas. I have a holiday jazz internet radio station playing as I speak. I had to run out and get the first of the season Starbucks’ red cup the other day and DH and I have been plotting this year’s lights fusillade on the porch for the past couple days. We’ll put up the porch stuff early but I’m dragging out all the Thanksgiving-themed and fall-emblem-laden stuff for exclusive use until Thanksgiving actually comes. Christmas for me really begins the second the last morsel of the first round of Thanksgiving dinner has gone down the hatch, so we’ll put up the tree after dinner and launch into it then. But until that moment, I’m plotting, buying crap, and putting up Thanksgiving-themed stuff everywhere.

Ghosted by a2stylee @ 11/06/2009 7:36 AM EST

@ UK MATT: I feel your pain. Without Thanksgiving or any other celebration between Halloween and Christmas, it’s very easy to start one’s own personal Christmas season way too early. Otherwise, one could run out of Christmas spirit way too soon.

I’m way excited for Christmas, but I won’t allow myself to listen to Christmas music or start watching Christmas movies before the last week of November. Also, I really need to take down the last Halloween decorations still up and pack them away.

Ghosted by Kapprika @ 11/06/2009 8:21 AM EST

Yesterday at Target I saw that they have, I swear this is real, a Peanuts nativity… complete with Woodstock as Jesus! Holy crap. Cute, yet somehow wrong at the same time. $24.99 seemed a bit steep, but I have a feeling I will own it once the price drops.

Ghosted by Jon @ 11/06/2009 9:03 AM EST

OK, Ultimate survey question! (You don’t have to answer if it’s too early for you).

When the time comes, what is your annual tradition which defines the beginning of the Christmas season?

For me, I wait until I’m alone, and it’s a cool or cold day. I have to have several hours of quiet and peace, and I put on the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack and listen all the way through. I then start to decorate. This will be about Nov. 28th? I think. Anyone else?

Ghosted by Terror Claws @ 11/06/2009 9:25 AM EST

Cameron T: Agreed- I like to get one holiday over with before I start getting excited about the next (though I admit, I have already started buying Christmas gifts- that’s only to save myself some stress later, though).

Jamesebee: I prefer to make my own eggnog, using an old tried and true recipe from an ancient Trader Vic’s bartending book that used to belong to my father. I can’t recall having ever sampled anything store-bought.

Jotenks: Better yet, Christmas Evil or Silent Night, Deadly night (ridiculous as those movie titles sound, I am somewhat embarassed to admit that they do in fact exist).

Hazzard: Whenever I would see Christmas decorations alongside the Halloween stuff in stores, I would become inexplicably filled with rage.

Andy: Dollar Tree had an amazingly cool selection of Halloween goods. Me and a friend spent like $20 there and got enough shit to completely decorate her house for the party we had. They really outdid themselves this year.

a2stylee: Oh man, jazzy Christmas music is my favorite kind. I can’t wait to dig out my Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown and Big Band Christmas CDs.

Ghosted by Cheetara @ 11/06/2009 9:26 AM EST

Terror Claws: For me, I think it’s when I first listen to a holiday CD in the car, especially Vince Guaraldi.

Ghosted by Cheetara @ 11/06/2009 9:28 AM EST

Cheetara-Yes,Silent Night,Deadly Night, does infact, exist.Thanx for reminding me of that movie(it has been sooo very long since I’ve seen it).Terror Claws-I like to play a few old school video games, then throw on some Christmas toons while me and the woman decorate the tree and apartment. There’s just something about the wind howling outside with the tunes on on seeing all the nicely wrapped presents under the tree.Although,I have to say that I will wait until after Thanksgiving.Pilgrims and elves just don’t mix :)

Somehow my phone went to the “Cape is the New Rock” entry to post this yesterday. Let’s try again:

Target’s toy catalog came in the mail today. The Lego advent calendar is displayed prominently! James Lipton appears to be a construction worker.

I really hope the insane Santa beard on the AC box represents the one inside. He looks absolutely drunk.

The calendar is shown on the bottom of page 17, for those interested.

Here’s the online catalog.

I saw the Christmas aisle at CVS yesterday and I’ll admit, I started to feel it. The Christmas Carol touring train also helped (though the first half of the train smelled like diaper).

My mother in law has absolutely ruined Thanksgiving AND Christmas for me…4 years running now. She started in on us two weeks before Halloween. Trying to pin us down to dates AND times we will be visiting. We wanted to “do our own thing” with a turkey and pjs. That’s not acceptable, I guess. These next few months I just want to go away as quickly as possible. I hate “Guilt Visits”. I wish I had a job like, ER doc, tow truck driver, etc. Where I HAD to work the actual DAY OF Thanksgiving/Xmas.

Ghosted by JllS @ 11/06/2009 9:58 AM EST

This is my favorite blog title ever. Well played, X-E Matt.

I know it’s the Christmas season when we take my mother-in-law out and get her drunk on margaritas, then buy Christmas ornaments. Every ornament is a precious memory of the time she got drunk on margaritas.

Also, Peanuts. “loo-loo-loo, loo-loo-loo-looo-ooo!”

Christmas time is buzzing in my skull. I ordinarily mourn Halloween, but this year is going to be outright Christmas. Sorry, Thanksgiving folk. But for me, November is the time to entrench yourself before the Christmas blitz begins. Although, no major decorating until after Thanksgiving.

Ghosted by PlantMonster @ 11/06/2009 10:25 AM EST

Nothing to do with the holidays, but yesterday a co-worker sent out an email to all women in our office asking if we’d like to see the new Twilight movie as a group. My response? “Sorry, I’ll be too busy hating Twilight.”

I think they all hate me now. Luckily I don’t really care. :D

Ghosted by Cheetara @ 11/06/2009 10:47 AM EST

I kindof miss the Advert Calendar, what ever happened to that? I don’t think it’s been seen since 2004, and I really love Christmas commercials and ads.

I know a lot of people are strict “After Thanksgiving” only people, but I just can’t help it. I’ll be lucky if I can last another week before we get a tree. This is my absolute favorite time of the year.

Ghosted by Fox @ 11/06/2009 10:59 AM EST

Yo, Matt, have you seen the Christmas Dots yet? My husband and I ruined our dinner with a large box last night. They’re red and green w/white tops. The flavours are cherry w/vanilla and lime w/vanilla. Pretty damned delicious.

My favourite christmas memory was the day after thanksgiving my mom and i would go cut a christmas tree and have fries and slushies at Dairy Queen afterwards. She passed away four years ago and I don’t get a tree anymore. Both thanksgiving and christmas just don’t mean anything to me anymore.

Hallelujah, Holly Shit…Where’s the Tylenol?

Man, I wish.

Matt!

Speaking of wishes, I found an old 1992 Sear Christmas Wishbook if you’re interested in reviewing it…

Ghosted by Ricky @ 11/06/2009 11:27 AM EST

I’ll get french fries and slushies with you at DQ, DasTeufulNagatier! Come to Eastern Massachusetts and we’ll head up to New Hampshire and find a real nice tree!

Seriously though, I always had good memories cutting down the Christmas tree as well. How quickly those years fade away . . .

Ghosted by wroclawski @ 11/06/2009 11:37 AM EST

As much as I enjoyed Halloween this year, I’m looking forward to the year’s remaining holidays. I took down my Halloween decorations on Monday and put up my Thanksgiving stuff. I love Thanksgiving as much as Christmas, so while I might watch the odd Christmas special in November (I have so many holiday DVDs, I can’t fit them all into 25 days anymore), the actual decorating will wait until after Turkey Day and I clean my apartment.

Ghosted by starwenn @ 11/06/2009 11:48 AM EST

This holiday season is a wash for me, really. It’s tragic. I’ve had to spend all October working every possible minute in order to finance my education and living expenses back in Poland. Add to this I’ve had to try to find time to write, edit, and polish my book of poetry which is simultaneously going to be published and serve as my MA project, and that’s not all, the poems are in three different languages, so I need to go to three different advisors in three different countries . . .

And I’m getting married.

Maybe next year will be easier.

Ghosted by wroclawski @ 11/06/2009 12:08 PM EST

The good thing about the Christmas season starting is that my Keurig coffee maker decided to break down at the right time, those suckers are available everywhere at the moment. The little rubber ring thing that secures the needle and water line broke and there’s no way of fixing it. D: I get the feeling that the “My K-Cup” thing is useless and that I should just stick to using K-Cup pods so this doesn’t happen again.

The real question is, after X-E’s Halloween theme comes down will Matt go back to standard X-E, put up Christmas X-E early, or go old school X-E and put together a Thanksgiving theme (as seen here http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0845/).

I hope for a Thanksgiving theme all the way! I can’t wait to start reading me some of the parade reviews! Year after year they never get old. The MOTU floats and the year with Joey Lawrence and that clown are the best!
