X-E’s Shoebox Die-O-Rama Art Contest!

EDIT: Comments are back up as of 5 PM Sunday! YAY.

Some of you asked if I was going to run any new artsy Halloween contests this year. Yes, I am! Right now!

It's time for X-E's Shoebox Die-O-Rama Contest!

Your mission: Use a shoebox to create some kind of spooky Halloween diorama. You can give it any kind of specific theme -- a graveyard diorama, an Elm Street diorama, an undersea monster attack diorama -- whatever you want! So long as we can effectively classify your diorama as "spooky" or "Halloweeny," it's valid!

You can use whatever materials you prefer: Paper, clay, plastics, cereal bits, blah blah blah. The one and only rule is that your diorama must be housed within the cardboard confines of a shoebox.

Entries will be judged by me and a team of people who just happen to be on AIM whenever I decide to do the judging.

And there will be prizes!

The grand prize winner will receive this amazing "Bloody Mary" Living Dead Doll, which is absolutely disturbing and would look just great rested upon the faux fireplace in the corner of your living room. Five runners-up will receive a random scary DVD of my choosing.

You have two weeks to send me a photo of your diorama. Please include the title of your piece with a brief description. This contest ends on Saturday, September 26th at 10 PM. Winners will be announced within one week of that time. :)

Oh, and if you can't figure out what the fuck a diorama in a shoebox is supposed to look like, here's an example:

You probably won't win if yours looks anything like that, though.

Other rules: Contest is open to everyone, no matter where they live -- BUT, if you're on the other side of the planet, I reserve the right to send you an Amazon gift certificate instead of something that will cost me an additional 70,000 dollars to ship.

Get out your construction paper, and make with the creepy creativity. GOOD LUCK.

PS: The Jukebox has been refreshed with almost twice as many songs. Call it inspiration!

PPS: I can't believe that "shoebox" isn't a real word. I'm told it's supposed to be "shoe box." I refuse to adhere.

No blood orange or other halloween dots at my local Walmart, but a few other interesting finds. They had a “giant 2 headed gummy snake” that was about 2 inches in diameter and looked almost as long as my arm. Also lots of different flavors of candy corn: carmel, carmel apple, carmel chocolate, apple pie, blackberry cobbler, and creme brulee.

creme brulee candy corn…
and this was at walmart?!

I tend to expect Target to do gourmet Halloween, but… wow! Walmart- way to step up your game!

Sounds delicious.

My thoughts exactly Kittymao. I had to call my mom, who’s a total creme brulee addict. Personally I’d rather try the blackberry though.

You too Darth Poop?! Well, try try again I say.

And I totally agree, kittymao. I have that very same cd!

Oh no!

Man, Patrick Swayze died? This really has been a cruel summer. Michael Jackson dies, Farrah Fawcett, too, my
cousin got divorced, and I saw a Transformer with
balls. Please say it can’t get any worse.

I got a kitten. A very tiny tiny kitten.

Oh no! I really need to read the comments before I post. Patrick died? That’s heart breaking.

R.I.P. Patrick. Wolverines!

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 09/14/2009 9:13 PM

This was the first I’d heard about Patrick Swayze. Truth be told, I was wondering when it was going to happen. Like Farrah Fawcett, he’s been living with cancer for a while now. At least both are no longer suffering.

And Matt, you make me want to hit up Dollar Tree tomorrow in search of cheap n’ cool fall and Halloween decorations. Not that I really need more – fall’s my favorite time of year, and I have more decorations for the fall and Halloween than for any other holiday except for Christmas – but it never hurts to look…

Want to see the kitten.

:(

Dirty Dancing was definitely the movie I watched endlessly when I was 11-13. Mostly because I babysat all of my summers and weekends for a family that owned only two movies…but it was a good movie to be stuck with.

RIP

Bill, I think we all know who you should name the kitten after.

I am eating Chocolate Mousse Cat Peeps…all is right with the world. They are to die for, btw.

Target amped up their Halloween section a LITTLE. Still too much back-to-school crap though.

Is there anyone from the 80s that’s still alive? It is the year that the 80s died, so far!

Chestnuts roasted by mr adam we @ 09/14/2009 10:34 PM

Michael J. Fox better hadn’t dare.

Chestnuts roasted by Amy @ 09/14/2009 10:41 PM

I know…*sighs* awww…I’m so sad…I wanna go on youtube to see if I can find the Chippendales SNL skit.

He was my moms age which is weird…I always thought he was younger.

WOW.

Chestnuts roasted by mandy_Reeves @ 09/14/2009 10:43 PM

Yeah, I think her name will be Patricia Swayze.

Got a picture coming soon.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 09/14/2009 11:07 PM

Poor Patrick. I shall watch Point Break ASAP in mourning. Cancer is soooo depressing. It feels like almost everyone ends up with some form of it at some point in their lives. Seriously, I can probably name the people I know who HAVEN’T had cancer easier than I can name the ones who have. Sigh.

BILL I DEMAND KITTEN PICS! AHH! I’m all cat-hyper cause I finally caught the part of the episode of Cats 101 on Animal Planet that has my kitty’s breed, Maine Coon. He was a shelter kitty so I don’t think he’s purebred or anything, but he’s definitely a gentle giant and has the M on his forehead and is a big lovey orange puffball. So Bill, srsly, you must show us this cutiepie.

Chestnuts roasted by Nicole @ 09/14/2009 11:30 PM

Man, this year sucked.

And Nicole. See? Need to read comments. Damn…

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 09/15/2009 12:04 AM

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, she’s precious! I can go to bed now.

You better let her snuggle with you tonight. Just don’t let her steal your breath.
