@Deej A whole shift in the formula? So, at the start everyone actually dies, no survivors, then Death comes on screen and says “Well, I thought seeing as we have another hour and forty to fill I’d read you a collection of poetry I posted on Myspace. I’ve been trying to put them to music, I only know two chords so far, but it’s pretty strong stuff…”

Wow, I can’t believe you kept the shrunken head. And I can’t believe how funky it’s gotten.

Although Halloween isn’t my favorite time of year, it’s my girlfriends and she’s loving the Jukebox. Unfortunately, it’s hot as balls here today, so it doesn’t feel very Fall-y, which sucks.

Any of you guys still play Smash Brothers?

I bought Wii Sports Resort yesterday (along with an extra Wii Profolactic) and GH5.

My urge to play Wii again is slowly coming back.

Guise: Oh lord, MySpace poetry? Somebody drop a pane of glass on me now. I’m now picturing Death’s MySpace profile pic. He’s looking up at his phone camera with his lips puckered up in a flirtatious manner, with his hair draped over one eye, just like EVERY LITTLE TEENYBOPPER EMO GIRL PROFILE PIC YOU’VE EVER SEEN. Oh, and the name on his profile pic is spelled GrIm ReApEr, just like that. His background is black, with purple text and pics of Hello Kitty all over the place.

@Deej Don’t forget that in his gallery will be at least one pic of him dressed as a member of The Black Parade and one where he’s all broody with a scythe, while lamenting about how hard it is to cut yourself with the scythe when you are just a skeleton. He’s not the “Grim Reaper” though, he’s just the Reaper, but “nobody understands him”.

Anyone played Batman: Arkham Asylum? I haven’t gotten very far yet, but I think it’s pretty awesome.

Ghosted by Teddy Ray @ 09/05/2009 1:52 PM EDT

@Teddy Yes! On the xbox, and gotten as far as the end – I just don’t want to finish it. I love it, though there’s a few minor things I’m not fond of, mostly because of me as the player – ie. I overuse detective mode and therefore miss a lot of the gritty beauty. Riddler puzzles are damn cool though, especally for the tapes.

holy crap YOU. my husband’s been playing it every night on the ps3 and i dont think he is near the end. tho i wish he was, hogging the big tv and all.

Teddy Ray I DL’ed the demo and thought it was great. I was going to get it yesterday, but I bought Wii Resort and GH5 instead. Nearly $200 later, I figured I could go a few weeks without another new game.

What I really love about AA is that they have Hamil and Kevin Conroy reprising their voice roles. There hasn’t been a better Batman than him since Mr. Adam We.

Batman was a fantastic character in Batman TAS and JL/JLU.

I really need to get this game.

@Amy Well, only on normal level, which given how much I wanted to scream during the Harley fight and the Ivy fight is probably best. Took me a damn while to do it, especially tracking down all the Riddler stuff.

@Darth …and Arleen back as the voice of Harley, that was pure beauty.

Ghosted by Guise @ 09/05/2009 3:39 PM EDT

Guise

I had a feeling that it was the same actress who played Harley’s voice, but I wasn’t sure and didn’t have time to IMDB it.

I absolutely loved Mr. J’s and hers dynamics in TAS. They really were a great pairing and Arleen is a great VA. She almost beats Susan Blue, and that’s a tough thing for me to say….for obvious reasons.

Ghosted by Darth Galvatron @ 09/05/2009 3:52 PM EDT

@Darth What’s great is that Blue is completely relevant here, because of the Friday 13th link beyond VA work as Arcee and, yum, Galadria from Visionaries

Ghosted by Guise @ 09/05/2009 4:00 PM EDT

Guise I totally forgot she was Galadria from Visionaries!! I remember one Christmas my middle brother and I got all of the Visionaries. I got all the Spectral Knights and he got all the Darkling Lords.

Man, that was a great Christmas. Man I miss my brother….

=(

Oh man, I just Youtubed Visionaries and distinctly heard Cullen, Latta, Thundercracker’s, Shockwave’s, Zartan’s, and several others voices from Joe/TF cartoons.

How fucking awesome.

So glad your back Matt!I was afraid you weren’t going to do the Halloween countdown this year! The Halloween countdown is the best thing about this site! Can’t wait to see all the Halloween goodies you will find this year!

Ghosted by Liz @ 09/05/2009 6:09 PM EDT

Man, I gotta YouTube some Visionaries now. I remember loving it when I was a kid and I still have 2 of the toys, but beyond that I don’t remember much about it, especially the voices. I just remember the basic premise and what some of the figures looked like, but nothing about the characters or anything. I’ll have to check it out.

Just got back from the new Final Destination movie. I’d say it’s definitely the weakest of the series but did have a couple of great kills and one particular sequence in a mall that I liked a lot. I really liked the opening titles too. You’ll see what I mean. The whole opening titles sequence is basically a tribute to all the kills of the previous movies, done in a cool, inventive way. The 3D effects sometimes were kind of cool, but mostly done in a cheesy sort of “ooh, look what we can throw in your face kind of way.” It kind of works for this movie because all the FD movies are so over the top and cheesy anyway that gimmicks aren’t so bad. I do think the problem with a lot of 3D movies though is that they’re shot just for the 3D effects, so that there are a lot of goofy, unnecessary shots thrown in that wouldn’t normally be there just so they have an excuse to throw something in your face. I think as 3D movies become more prevalent, unfortunately we’re probably going to see more of that and the whole thing’s just going to become corny and overused after a while. I would much rather see some of my old favorites converted to the 3D format just to see what stands out and what doesn’t. My favorite movie of all time is Burton’s ‘89 Batman and I can only imagine how cool that would look in 3D on the big screen.

I saw a giant standee in the theater for A Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D again this year. I’m glad because every year they’ve released it, I’ve somehow missed it. I also got to see the new trailer for the new Christmas Carol motion-capture thing with Jimmy Carrey. Looking forward to that too.

Halloween jukebox!

Ghosted by guidedbyvenkman @ 09/05/2009 6:27 PM EDT

I’ve seen a few posts about Sam Adams Oktoberfest and I have to say that it’s one of my favorite beers that I always look forward to. I’m getting ready to pick up a case of the stuff at my local Shoprite. I also saw my favorite Cadbury buzzard eggs. Life is good.

If this turns into SNT, have a good one folks.

I don’t know if any suggestions are being taken for additions to the Halloween Jukebox, but may I suggest “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” by The Beatles. It’s a great gruesome jingle from the fab four.

Ghosted by bloodybrilliantme @ 09/05/2009 7:14 PM EDT

Bloodybrilliant-I totally read that as auditions and not suggestions…which I would totally be into. I bet I could do a kick ass interpretative dance for the Halloween Theme.

Guise and DJD- I miss the good ol’ days of MySpace where people posted bulletins and blogs with poetry making themselves the victims of…life. *memories*

/sarcasm off ;)

Everbody has been sayin good things about AA! It must be good. I’ve been playing the new Wolfenstein. It’s awesome. Finally started playing 1 vs 100 too, and that is a load of fun.

I want to say X-E rules!, but my wagon my hit a banana peel and veer off a cliff.

I’m loving Arkham Asylum. Given that I’m usually terrible at over-the-shoulder or FPS games, maybe this one is finally a decent introduction for me. I tend to get nauseous if the character can look all over the place. The first time I experienced that was in Super Mario 64. The swimming levels were rough for me. My head would move with the screen. It’s much better with Batman.

Tonight I’ve been playing Haunted Ground for the PS2. One of my coworkers was raving about it, so I picked it up on eBay. It’s kind of like a cross between Resident Evil and Alice in Wonderland, I think. There’s a big hulk of a guy following the main character around. He seems like a violent version of Sloth from the Goonies.

An hour in and I’m gamed out for the evening. It’s time to watch A Few Good Men for the very first time. I know nothing of it aside from the “You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!” line. I think I was grounded when my parents rented it years ago, so I’ve never seen it.

Then it’s some Professor Layton for the DS before bed. Gotta get my gaming fix in before my wife comes home from her trip tomorrow.

Happy SNT!

Want a great, original movie that’s NOT in 3D? Go see Inglourious Basterds

Ghosted by Tryclyde @ 09/05/2009 8:59 PM EDT

I’m so backed up on games right now. There are so many that have come out in the past year that I want to get to that I haven’t yet, including RE5, Arkham Asylum, Wolfenstein, Dead Space, Ghostbusters, and a bunch others. It’s funny you mention not liking FPS’s and over the shoulder action games, MysteryD8 because those are actually my favorite kinds. I probably play more of those types than anything else. I would like to expand out a little more and play something that’s totally outside the genre of what I’m used to, like some little light hearted puzzle game or something. Just something to give me a break from killing Nazis and zombies and space monsters for a while, just for the sake of variety.

Tryclyde: Absolutely! One of the best movies of the summer…no, the year. I can’t recommend that one enough.

Happy SNT ya’ll. It really feels like Halloween tonight. I think I might pop in a few horror flicks. I finally picked up those Micheal Myers lights I wanted. They’re cool.

I’ve been playing AA for Xbox as well and I LOVE fighting and countering several guys at once. I can’t get tired of it.

I have been missing out on games due to economic problems. I will purchase Ghostbusters in October. Indeed I will. The Demo was awesome. Nice to see the librarian ghost again.

New post up! Cookies! What the? This ain’t the 16th! It’s an SNT miracle!

Awesome to have you back Matt and just in time!!!

DJ D, I know what you mean about these 3D movies shooting stuff just to say, “Hey, look what we can do!” The wife and I watched Journey to the Center of the Earth on cable a while back and there was a scene early on where a yo yo or something flies toward the screen and I said, “Oh yeah…this was a 3D movie.” Pointless.
