I suppose the growing rumors of my demise and the 72 MySQL errors littering the site mean that I should probably, uh, write something.

As for why I haven't posted -- that's a loaded question. A short break turned into a long one would be the simple answer. A longer answer would involve descriptions of the changing landscape of the industry I work in, and the copious amount of extra effort it's taken to remain vital within it. It's a personal journey and a boring story, totally unsuited to becoming a major motion picture, but the point of it is that the past several months have been so loaded with responsibilities that, bluntly put, I maxed out and couldn't handle another.

I would never dare to say that writing about junk food and Krang is an outright responsibility, chore, job or anything of the sort, but there just came a point where if I had a free moment, I wanted to spend it privately. Being a go-getter is not my nature; I am, at heart, a lazy slug. But if I had to pretend otherwise, it could only be for 8 (or 9, or 12) hours a day. Not 24. I'd make a terrible Behrooz.

Then again, I guess it's not brain surgery to package crap up all pretty like.

immat the library, do u no why??

my books r dewback lol

Anyway, finally, things are settling down, and I'm getting the itch back. I have big grand plans, but I can't tell you about them, because if I break another site-related promise, I'd likely turn up dead. But, let's roll the dice and try this much:

This Saturday, I will write about something. And you will tell me what that something is. Your options are:

A) Matt spends $25 at a Dollar Tree or some other such store, and describes his purchases. I've done it before, but not for years, and the statute of limitations has gotta be working in my favor by now.

B) Matt gets a new pet and writes about it. Don't get your hopes up, I'm not buying a dog just to have something to write about. But it will be something alive.

C) Matt tries to find his collection of Kool-Aid; if he succeeds, he reviews a new flavor.

D) Matt builds a robot using only the materials available in his kitchen junk drawer.

I really hope you don't pick "D."

Okay, for the twelve of you who still read X-E, please, choose my adventure!

Saint and kittymao: Don’t tease me that way. I’m this close to shooting off an e-mail to a certain long eared someone to see if I can get a response.

Bill: Hey buddy! Long time no chat. Yeah, they put on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. I’m actually giving away a few pairs of tickets to see them and Jane’s Addiction on my radio show over the course of the next few weeks. It’s for a show in Charlotte on June 12th. I’ve already got a ticket myself, but I found out recently I’m going to have to miss it cause I have to go out of town. I can live though. As many times as I saw them last fall, it’s not a big deal to skip this one. Too bad I gotta miss Jane’s Addiction though. I hear they put on a good live show too.

trajeal: Yeah, I do enjoy the occasional terrible Sci-Fi movie here and there. It’s hit and miss though and you just gotta know going in what to expect. They just vary from ridiculous and fun stuff to almost unwatchable crap. Looks like there’s one coming on soon with the guy that played Gaius Baltar in Battlestar Galactica, except this time he’s playing some kind of Wizard. Looks interesting. I believe Trisha Helfer from BSG is going to be on this new show premiering on Sci-Fi called Warehouse 13. Have you seen the promos for it? Looks like another X-Files ripoff, with a little Friday the 13th The Series thrown in, but it might not be too bad. I wonder when Eureka’s coming back.

As for this weekend, I’m spending it cleaning the apartment, job hunting, downloading music, getting caught up on reading, and seeing Drag Me To Hell tomorrow. Raimi’s return to horror!

There’s a really cool horror punk/ska band playing at a club here in town that I really want to see, but I’m broke as a joke and trying to watch the spending, so I’m not going to go. I did talk to their merch chick earlier this evening though and they’re going to hook me up with some free promo stuff to play on my show. I might have them call in for an on-air interview or something. Just wish I could catch them tonight. Oh well. This unemployed shit is for the birds!

Being unemployed has advantages and disadvantages. :\ At this point I’m starting to think I might have a better chance of becoming a pop superstar than finding a job in this stupid town.

Sad Fact: I have a first/blindish date tomorrow. I fully plan on checking the status of the blog during pseudo trips to the powder room on my phone all night long, as I am more excited about that :/

I was exactly where you are a year ago at this time. Hang in there. It’s no fun, but you’ll make it.

DJ D
Eureka is returning this July!

DJ D and Annette, good luck in the job search. This economy sucks so bad right now. I was actually under the impression that the radio station was paying you, DJ D. It must suck to go to concerts and not have money to spend. Do you take any pictures? I’m dying to see that “Book of Beasts” movie on Sci Fi tomorrow night. Guess who’s in it? Laura Harris! Oh, it must be fate. Now, if only they could have gotten Jensen Ackles to play a part… my life would be complete. :) “Drag Me To Hell” looks like one of those movies where they show all of the “good” parts in the previews. You’ll have to give us a review when you get back.

I always told myself that I would write w/o interruption if I was ever in the situation where I had no work to go to every day. Well, here I sit, not going to work (outside the house, anyway), yet I still don’t sit and write every day like I should. Unless you count posting here and adding lines here and there to Wikipedia articles, I’m not writing shit. I have a problem w/ research and getting all OCD w/ having to have every detail of whatever I’m looking up, even though I probably won’t need 90% of it. For example, I wanted to write a story about a girl who decides to join a Wiccan coven. So, instead of researching a bit at a time as I need it, I spent about 6 months inter-library loaning every book in the state of Connecticut and bookmarking hundreds of sites I will probably never read, yet I have less than 20 pages of the story written. It wouldn’t be so bad if I was actually reading stuff and learning something. But no, not I. Once I photocopy/bookmark the page, it gets filed. Procrastination, you are my middle name.

Man, I knew A was winning, but by that count, it’s doubled the amount of the other three choices combined. Crazy! You all have no mercy, do you? Not only will he be stuck at his computer for hours, typing and being witty, it’s going to cost him $25. You people are tough.

Well, Jay Leno’s Tenure is over. I remember watching the Tonight Show in late elementary school for the first time and thinking I was so grown up watching the Tonight Show. I guess I pretty much grew up with him. And though I thought these last few years were kind of stale, I loved the way he ended the show with all the kids…

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 05/30/2009 12:42 AM

Not the one who mentioned it above, but I just got back from seeing Drag Me to Hell. I was very skeptical ’cause of Sam Raimi directing, and then even more skeptical when I found out in the opening credits that he also wrote it. And I also thought that the best parts were in the previews. I just didn’t think he could pull this type of thing off anymore, considering he hasn’t done anything remotely close to this in about twenty years.

I was very pleasantly surprised. One of the most fun horror-type movies I’ve seen in a while. The best part was that the film didn’t take itself seriously (I should have expected that). There were plenty of parts that were meant to be laughed at, but not too many to make it overly corny, and plenty of parts that I looked away from the screen and/or jumped. In my opinion, most of the best parts were NOT shown in the previews. Very good film. I just wish it wasn’t summer so I could write a legitimate review for my college’s paper (and my ticket would have been paid for…) I’d probably give it a 4 out of 5.

Oooh, oooh, Matt do A! Then D! :-D

Chestnuts roasted by Fairy @ 05/30/2009 2:01 AM

trajeal: Unfortunately, the station doesn’t really pay. It’s all volunteer, but the trade off is that I get to meet and interview a lot of bands and rarely have to pay to get into a show (and yeah, I do take a lot of pics). I also book and DJ some club gigs around town as well as the occasional wedding, so there is some money to be made in the whole thing if you can get steady work, but not enough to make much of a living around here. I’ll be the first to say I’m incredibly lucky and spoiled to have my show though. I’ve been doing it for around 10 years now and since it’s college radio I can do just about anything I want with it within reason, and you just can’t get that kind of freedom anywhere else.

Oh yeah, “Book of Beasts”! Thanks. I couldn’t remember the name of it for the life of me. I’m right there with you on the Laura Harris thing. The first time I saw her in anything was in 24 a few seasons ago (I’m a 24 fanatic), and I’ve been a fan ever since. I was kind of thinking about seeing the movie, but now that I know she’s in it, I definitely will.

Cameron T.: Thanks. I usually keep up on that stuff but I haven’t heard anything about Eureka in a long time so I didn’t know what the deal was. I did find out that The Riches was canceled though, which really sucks because I was really digging that too.

Yeah, the ending of The Tonight Show was really good. That was a cool, unexpected way to go out. I’ve always been more of a Letterman guy, but I will miss seeing Headlines every Monday night and the Jaywalking thing. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of people disagreeing when I say this, but I’ve always thought that Conan was way overrated and just not that funny. Maybe it’s just not my kind of humor, but he never did it for me. I just hope Letterman doesn’t got anywhere.

Finally got my Spock glass from Burger King the other day. It’s pretty cool. I like what they’re doing with them. I really only wanted the Spock one and was worried that I wasn’t going to time it right and was going on the wrong week or whatever, but it turns out they had them all and you could just choose which one you wanted, so that worked out. I like that fast food places are doing a better job these days of giving away cool movie tie-in stuff. It was really great when we were kids but kind of slacked off later on. I’m such a sucker for that shit, especially commemorative glasses.

Maryx2 The box said something about sparkles…I wanted to save them for collector purposes, but my husband just scarfed down half the box.

How about option E, you go learn Kung Fu, and then have an adventure with Viking Space Vampires, who ambush you in Atlantis, while at a horseshow. After they kidnap you, of course.

Kool-Aid gets my vote. Also, good to know you are still alive Matt.

I really dug the Tonight Show ending. Jay went out in a classy way and I am excited to have Conan take over. I think he is hilarious! I am skeptical about the future of the Tonight show though since Jay will be on earlier. I think he will take a lot of the audience with him and most people won;t stay up to watch.

I don’t really watch anymore because Tonight is on so late in the eastern time zone, in Colorado it was on at 10:30!

Chestnuts roasted by drew do @ 05/30/2009 9:53 AM

DJ D: Yeah, I saw Jane’s too. They were ok but Perry Ferell was on some kind of weird shit. His little speeches between sets didn’t make any sense. Even the couple next to me shroomin’ were like “uhhhh…ok”.

Squee: Dag yo! I’m at the Embassy Suites on Airport BLV next to LAX.
